Guitar player friend messaged me on Xmas Day, said he'd got his hands on a mutual friend's bass 🙂 Seeing as our pal hung himself in 1999, I was both glad and surprised to hear a bit of his gear was still about. Was even more surprised when I was told it should be with me 😲 Got another message yesterday telling me to collect it 🙂 Old Japanese Gibson copy, think it may be a Sakai Mokko. @Bassassin care to give an opinion ? Neck is straight but it's missing a fret. No sound bar a loud hum, pickup selector switch is goosed, I see one failed solder joint in the cavity. Won't be doing any fault finding, it's easier to replace the electrics. Can't see the pickups failing but I've a replacement set in a drawer. Nice wee fixer up job but I'd rather my pal was still with us 🙁12 points

Well after about 6 years amp-less just using a powered speaker and Helix Stomp/couple other DI pedals, i recently moved house, bigger detached no neighbours to worry about so decided to treat myself. After much deliberation decided to go for the Laney as it ticked all the boxes for features I wanted. It came down to The Ashdown studio stack or this. very very impressed, the Amp is not dead the King returns, straight out of the Box all set at 12 sounds amazing on both channels couple tweaks and got the sound i want. I was worried 500w would be too loud but getting great sounds at lower volumes with plenty to crank if i ever need it. Real amps are just so responsive (or at least this is) I had to pinch myself my playing (even after 3 weeks off on holidays) was just so Dynamic. Sounds and plays just like you think an amp should. Real amps vs Modellers could be a separate threat.7 points

Selling my 2001 Musicman Stingray5. Amazing sounding bass, a few dings & chips from gigs but easily one of the best sounding SR5’s I have owned. The white has aged nicely into a creamy white colour. It’s just back from a full overhaul by my guitar tech including - Deep clean • Fretboard restoration • Neck de-gloss • Fret level crown and polish • Electronics inspection • full multi-step setup Totalling - £325 Comes with original MM case, case candy & white pick guard. Bass is in Glasgow if anyone wants to try it out first. Lots of nice SR5’s for sale on BC just now, not to fussed if this doesn’t sell. £14007 points

2002 Pedulla MVP4 in charcoal AA flame with original Bartolini soapbar pickups and ebony fretboard. I bought this from Mansons guitar shop in Exeter in 2004 and despite being well used since then it’s in great condition- the neck is as straight as the day it was made and it plays perfectly. Comes with the owners manual, original Pedulla branded hard case (which is a little worse for wear) and a truss rod adjustment tool (not original) which I think I’ve had to use three times in the last 20 years. One pot has been professionally replaced but I have the original if you want it. Super low action and thin neck but this thing has a huge beefy sound. Some minor cosmetic scratches and so on which I’ve tried to show but most would probably buff out. About 10 years ago a small section of lacquer started to separate from the edge of the fretboard, again could be fixed if you want something immaculate. An awesome bass but I have too many and it’s not getting enough use. You don’t see many of these up for sale and are only going to go up in value over time now that Mike Pedulla has retired. Collection only from Bristol. Not looking for trades, sorry. Here’s the blurb from Pedulla: Pedulla MVP4 – Where Precision Meets Power Experience the legendary craftsmanship of the Pedulla MVP4, a bass designed for players who demand uncompromising tone and playability. Hand-built with meticulous attention to detail, the MVP4 delivers a rich, articulate sound that cuts through any mix, thanks to its premium woods and proprietary electronics. With its sleek neck-through design, flawless balance, and ultra-smooth feel, this instrument offers effortless performance whether you’re laying down grooves or exploring melodic lines. The MVP4 isn’t just a bass—it’s a statement of quality and artistry, trusted by professionals worldwide. Key Features: • Neck-through construction for superior sustain and stability • Custom Pedulla electronics for versatile tonal control • Ergonomic design for maximum comfort during long sessions • Stunning finishes that showcase its boutique heritage7 points

I bought this at the beginning of 2024 then promptly quit playing 😂 I had it stored in a cupboard and only remembered about it towards the end of last year so got it out and used it for a couple of the Christmas gigs. It's a U serial number which could be 1996 or 2010 but I think that it's more likely to be 2010. From memory it features an ash body, maple neck with rosewood board & block inlays and US pickups. Before I used it I gave it a full set up including adjusting the truss rod so everything is working as it should. It comes with 2 gig old Hybrid Slinkies. Its in pretty good condition for a 15 year old bass with a few light scratches here and there - the worst ding is pictured but right at the edge of the body so difficult to see. It comes with it's original standard issue Fender Japan gig bag. IT also comes with the bridge cover fitted but never had a pickup cover with it when I bought it. It sounds incredible and I am only selling it as I have far too many basses so am aiming to get down to 2 - a main bass and a backup. I can't remember what I paid for it and am having trouble finding sold examples of this so have started it at £1100 but am open to offers. I have the original packaging for this so can post it. The weight is coming in at a reasonable 9.8lbs using the on and off the scales method so it's no lightweight nor is it a boat anchor. I prefer payment by bank transfer and have done this many times with other members on the forum as a buyer and as a seller. If you are too far away to collect then I am happy for you to arrange a courier to collect it.7 points

*** ON HOLD *** I purchased this Fender Precision Thinline PBAC from BC stalwart @Happy Jack on the 18th July last year. It's a beautiful thing, sounds amazing, but, unfortunately, the old long scale bass aches are back so I am returning to my short scale basses. It breaks my heart to let this go as I'd been waiting for one to come up for years, but, as I said, I just can't handle long scales anymore, I just need to finally give them up altogether. It is a glorious bass, its character and charm enhanced by a selection of (purely cosmetic) dings and marks wholly commensurate with its age. It's been played about four times at home rehearsals since I bought it. Please bear in mind that these are unusual basses that usually sell for between £1100-£1500 second hand. Bass is located in Southend, happy to meet somewhere to hand over or drive to you (I like driving, try me). The bass went straight to Guitar Technical Services for a Pro Set-Up as soon as I bought it, not that it needed it really, I just always do it. The bass comes with a slightly shabby but robust Mono Classic Bass Guitar Case Here is @Happy Jack's original advert. Here is my NBD post. Happy to answer any questions or provide more pics, just message me. No trades thanks.6 points

So much for my 2026 Basschat / internet hiatus - I’m briefly back just to sell this bass. This is a really reluctant sale, I’m gutted. Nerve damage issues means I’m having to finally give up the struggle with how a Jazz Bass sits for me. It's an outstanding bass - the neck feels beautifully played in and natural, it balances great, and sounds stunning. I've loved recording with it at home, this bass will be genuinely missed. It has the slim C shape neck, not the fat U shape which some other ‘64s seem to have. Made in late 2008 for release in 2009, this is 1 of 30 made in relic (also 30 NOS were made). The full spec is below. The original pickguard is the white one, the tortoiseshell is from a Road Worn Fender Flea, the bass comes with both. The tone pot is a CTS replacement. All else is original. Comes with the original hard case, certificate, and metal covers. There is a tiny indent behind the 1st fret (in photo) but it's massively unlikely your thumb will be anywhere near that high up the neck. As far as I can tell, and know, all other marks are from the relic vibe. Trades - I’ve just ordered from Warmoth, including a Precision body with Jazz pups, so I’m kinda covered, but I may take the right P Bass to tide be over until the Warmoth arrives 🤔 Collection only, from Chesham, which is at the end of the Metropolitan Line on the London Underground. This magnificent instrument arrived on Tuesday. But I'm still in the challenge as I ordered it on the 29th December so it isn't a 2026 purchase! The red suede strap I ordered at the beginning of the year to go with it is also permitted in the rules of the challenge. Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Custom Shop Firebird in Gibson Garage/ Gibson.com exclusive cherry transparent finish. It does mean though that this (almost as magnificent) instrument will be on its way out once I find a buyer.6 points

For sale is this awesome Pink Paisley telecaster bass by Docwood. Nut width is 40mm (reshaped Fender neck), the whole neck feel is a lot less beefy than usually with this kind of basses. The pickup is a high quality Kloppmann. I got this bass a short while ago. It sounds terrific with a lot of authority, but I can't get used to the slab body it seems. The bass weighs 4,2kg with the covers mounted. So around 4kg with covers off. Comes with tolex hardcase. Asking back what I paid: €1350 without case or €1400 with tolex case included. I am located in the Netherlands, but happy to ship if needed.6 points

Stunning USA G&L L2000 up for grabs, which judging by the play wear, was made around 1952 😄 As with all older G&L instruments, the build quality is fantastic and it feels very substantial despite being fairly lightweight at just under 9lbs. The neck is amazing, it's easy to understand why it's seen so much gig action in its life. Despite the worn appearance it feels great with no serious damage, and the frets are in good shape. It features the K Mod switch which allows, series, parallel and single coil pickup settings, as well as a switch for passive, active and active with treble boost modes. It's such an iconic and versatile instrument, sadly no longer in production. Collection from Margate preferred. I don't have a case for this bass but do have some decent packaging if you'd like to arrange your own courier.5 points

When we first got our XR18 there was a band member that couldn't figure out why he couldn't plug his mic in to it. The cable was already in the XR18 but the mic end wasnt right. Yeah, he had first plugged the mic cable in to one of the Aux sends, and it took him a couple of mins to figure this out. Get this, he even moved the cable to the next Aux send to try 🤣. This is one good reason why ive put labels on everything.5 points

Played the Bungalow in my home town of Paisley last night. Weather was a bit miserable and we weren`t sure how many tickets we had sold prior to the gig. With pre sales and on the door we sold it out so the venue and us were well happy. It`s a great small venue, drink isn`t too expensive and Kev the soundman is a cool guy who used to work in the Hard Rock Cafe in Glasgow, one song and the soundcheck was done. I used my Greco P bass prob for the last time live as I have a US P coming next week. The only downside to the gig is I had done my ligament in my knee and the rhythm guitarist had one of his many knee op`s on Xmas eve so I had to sit down at one point whilst he stayed standing for the whole gig, both our knees are bloomin sore today but we got the gig done.4 points

I’m not yet sure what category this will fall into, but I bought this secondhand back in November for my youngest lad who wants to start learning. Pearl Export 4-piece kit, some bits in great condition other bits needing some TLC. Luckily it’s all pretty mechanical stuff which is my sort of level of understanding and ability to fix. It won’t go to waste in this house full of musicians even if he doesn’t take to it, so I’m hoping it comes in the “best purchases” category. To be continued…4 points

Definitely 2 of them... Since selling my 1994 Blue TRB6 as a poor mature jazz student to someone on this site in the mid-2000s (that subsequently sold it on a few times and unable to trace), I still massively regret it to this day. I bought it from Chappells in Milton Keynes as a 16 year old after working and saving for a long time. Every so often I look for it, but I've accepted it's likely locked away in it's case somewhere but hope it's being enjoyed by a young bass player somewhere. However after this one came up at Bass Bros I knew I had to try it. I've had many basses over the years but none have ever felt so natural to play. Maybe 10 years of formative learning on an instrument is ingrained in me. So this one was same year albeit different colour. Still, in immaculate condition. Think it was Cairobill's? Although it seems to be like buses...a Black 96 TRB6 also came available. Tbh I wish I could keep both but reality is after losing job last year (FU tech industry) I recently also had to shift my KS Burl Burner which in any other circumstance I'd still have. But man, I got 3 kids to feed... So going to play both for a bit and decide which one stays and which one goes... To this day I'm convinced there is no better value for money and sounding 6 string that these OG Japanese Yamaha's.3 points

Setting off for a day at the studio tomorrow… I’m packing a Les Paul Standard, 60’s reissue strat, 50’s reissue Strat with Baritone neck (27” scale) and a Guild Baritone 8 String. It does seem I’m more the guitarist at the moment…I’ve sold 4 basses recently and @Dankology is doing a sterling job holding down the bottom end… Enjoying the challenge - Not enjoying remembering to turn pedals on and off and playing the solos correctly…3 points

Hi guys. Here it is, my 74 fender jazz. Incredible sounding bass and the easiest bass I've ever played. Let's start with the neck. As most of your are aware, 74 was the first year they did the maple/pearl block inlays. And I think the last year before going to 3 bolt necks. What makes this one so damn good as that it was made by herb gastelum the neck guru of fender for 52 years! The neck is stamped herb g. It has had a brass nut installed at some point in its career. The body is sunburst as you can see with the usual dings you'd expect from a 52 year old bass. Stamped H Ferry who was another well known fender employee. It has had a modification back in the day, someone cut out for a bigger pickup to the neck position. This sits behind the pick guard and has not changed tone in anyway. The bridge has been upgraded to a baddass 2. This looks like a very old modification and seems quite common with older fenders. The pickups have been changed, I would say sadly, but these sound unbelievable so although not original it is the sweetest fender I've ever heard, maybe sweetest bass ever heard! They are hand wound pickups made by Ben lindsay in the USA. From what I read he is considered one of the best winders? Completely silent, but sound amazing. Scratchplate doesn't seem to be original as I think they were black. But has some age to it. This has been a tough one to price as I think an all original 74 would be worth 3.5k or so. Ive put it up for what I feel is fair.3 points

Fun and fantastic. The complete Ray Brown bass part for the tune 'I'm An Old Cowhand (From The Rio Grande)' from the 1957 Rollins recording 'Way Out West'. Sublime swing. That's 800 transcriptions up there now (less than half of the number on Tom Read's site 😃) https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/im-an-olsd-cowhand-from-the-rio-grande-sonny-rollins/3 points

Just a quick post to entertain and inform . Had an idea of building an EUB . Had one before and liked the general idea . I have played a doghouse bass before and love it but the practicalities , storage and transport of it have put me off . That , and the fact I would have to leave home at the age of 58 and start again in life cos the missus would not be too happy . And the tiny little micropub that we often play in is not ideal for double bass , as most of the customers would have to be outside on the pavement . So this idea was born . The plan was some sort of electric instrument , to be played mostly with a bow for long drone bass notes to accompany some irish music . After some refreshment (ahem!) , this plan was born . Neck/body is 1 5/8in aluminium tube with 1/4in wall thickness . Fingerboard is some unknown ( possibly sapele ) hardwood from the garage , machined to fit tube and given a radius . Tailpiece made from the same . Single bass bridges used as string anchors . Hipshot tuners . SBW weedwhacker strings . Endpin is most of a telescopic walking pole . PIckup is electro acoustic guitar piezo . I was going to have onboard buffer/EQ but decided to go passive in the end and feed it to hi impedance buffer and EQ pedal . Still need to finish it , just side markers on figerboard and a final polish and wax and we are done .3 points

I wish I could take full credit for the neck. It’s a very good Chinese one which I have reshaped the headstock and given a lot of love to the back and fretboard. Necks is my next hurdle to jump. Bodies are very forgiving and it I suspect you could strap a bridge and some pickups to a scaffold board and it would play but necks make or break the build. As @Kiwi graphite ones and the multitude of manufacturers that build in China demonstrate, necks being produced there are excellent with only the usual fettling a new neck needs. By using quality manufactured necks, I can ensure consistency, quality and keep overall build costs down. This allows me to concentrate on custom building gorgeous bodied, fantastic set up and playing basses which I can offer at a non boutique price point. I mean, after all, I’m not doing this to be the next Jon Shuker; I’m a chap with a full time day job who like pottering around in his workshop, trying to not lose a finger on bladed machinery and sanding stuff😂. I have no pretensions that I will ever make money from either building basses or playing in my band😆3 points

First place for me goes to my Fazley jazz bass. It just needed a small truss rod tweak and the frets could be polished, but it was a bargain at £63. Honourable mention to my Spector Icon and Sonicake Pocket Master. My pocket master has meant I've done a lot more practice since I've had it. And I think my Spector will come into it's own when band practice resumes next week. I need to tweak my next Newtone order though. The same gauge strings don't work between my Dingwall and the Spector. A bit too much tension on the high strings and the low ones are a bit loose.3 points

The Sapele body, wenge neck P bass is nearly finished. Just some knobs and strap lock buttons. This one has fought me all the way with neck shims, poly finish sagas, drilling through the headstock and accidental knocks. It sounds amazing though with Tonerider Precision Plus pickups and a Bloodstone Guitarworks solderless loom. Tuners are USA Hipshot Ultralites and a Gotoh bridge. I tried a custom headstock shape on this one. It will be sold as a player grade instrument due to the flaws but OMG does it play like a dream! I am tempted to keep it as the neck feels so lovely.2 points

Yamaha BB424X in metallic red. The poly finish has cracked in a couple of places so it has what look like long hairline cracks. I've tried to show them best I can in the photos and hence the price. They're not all the way through into the wood, just on the poly finish on the top. All set up and good to go with round wounds. Frets are good and levelled, nut cut to right depth, fretboard lemon-oiled. Happy to post.2 points

In my quest for the ultimate balancing bass I bought one of these earlier last year but was never happy with the sound so tried different pickups then gave up and put it back in its bag. Currently, it's missing all electronics, although I do have the original pickups (no screws) that I will include. I was planning on buying a set of the new EMG E4W pickups but being absolutely honest, I'm never going to use it so it's time for it to go. It comes with it's gig bag and all of the tools required to change strings, adjust the truss rod etc and I think that it's fitted with my usual Hybrid Slinkies. it looks almost brand new, pretty much because it is. I think I used it for maybe 3 gigs at the most. I have already done the thrust bearing mod to make the tuning smoother No messing about so looking for £400 or reasonable offer. I have the original packaging for this so can post it. The weight is coming in at a back friendly 5.8lbs using the on and off the scales method - plus whatever the electronics will weigh. I prefer payment by bank transfer and have done this many times with other members on the forum as a buyer and as a seller. If you are too far away to collect then I am happy for you to arrange a courier to collect it.2 points

Looking at just the repairs side, rather than the emotional attachments, is it worth just re-making the solder joint and seeing if that sorts anything out? Shouldn't matter about the ninth fret, you shouldn't be all the way up there anyway. You don't have your pal but at least you have something to remember him by.2 points

I gig all my basses. Beyond tribute bands, I don't see this rigid bass type to band/genre mapping at all. It helps that I'm in an originals band which by definition gets to make the rules up as it goes along, and the other band is simply rock/indie covers so I can pretty much do as I please wrt choice of bass weapon.2 points

Agreed on the Hakko. Downsides are that it looks like it was made by Fisher-Price and that it has a two button interface that makes the even most inscrutable 1980s multifunction digital watch seem intuitive by comparison.2 points

I think they already had this info from months/years of weekend request shows and the weekday request hour (1-2). What seems to have happened is that they had more people listening for longer and, unless they have premium access, being exposed to more ads. The top 500 was what listeners, at least the ones who voted, wanted. I hope this doesn’t see a shift away from playing more recent bands or the country rock that they have been pilloried for. If it wasn’t for PR (I'm a listener from the very early, ad free days) I wouldn’t have heard bands like Volbeat, Those Damned Crows, Blackberry Smoke, Black Stone Cherry, Greta Van Fleet, the list goes on and I’m happy about that. It has also achieved the reverse by confirming my dislike of some bands that a lot of folk hold in high regard. It’s not all gold, but then I refuse to believe that any artist’s catalogue is all gold, no matter how revered they are. Finally, a top whatever that has caused controversy; who would have thought that would be the outcome?2 points

Not last night, actually sunday. We had a gig at a pub in a local beauty spot (which considering I live in Yeovil, there aren't too many!), it was the day at the end of all the holidays. It was going to be a pain to get in. Turned up just after the singer so followed them in round a corner and parked by the building, as well as we could. Had to carry everything through a door that people were insisting of standing in the way of, but it was their party so couldn't be too annoyed at them. There was a tiny width of stage, and there were already a load of guitars there as apparently there was going to be a couple of people playing at our half time. We had to move the stuff as there wasn't enough room in general! Anyway, we started and people were dancing from the start and they moved all the tables out of the room which was good. Did the first hour or so ending with whole lotta love that we haven't done for a while. Then we had a break and a lot of food from the party, while the public event of what appeared to be people singing to a backing track with a guitar went on for half an hour. Not sure why there were two guitars and a bass though! Anyway we went back on and it went well, very interactive crowd, although towards the end of the night they started tailing off as the party had been going since much earlier, and the snow was making people think they should get going. Was much easier loading again though due to the lack of people and tables, but there was a fair bit of snow. This beauty spot is the top of the hill, I was going to go the normal way down the hill, but the drummer said I should go the other way, through the villages, which isn't steep because of the weather, I didn't think it was really necessary, but driving out of the car park after the singer, on a very gentle slope the car antilock hammered. The singer was going the other way so I followed, it was a very slow journey home considering how short it is, but got there! Heres my corner, nice and cosy. This was actually 8pm and completely dark but the camera decided to just lighten it up. Thats the road. Just before load in Just before we started.2 points
