  1. Agreed! If she looks like Tony Levin (shaved head, big grey moustache), then she is stage-ready.

  2. Great example of a classic bass in trans red from the early days of G&L when Leo Fender was firmly at the helm. Probably some of his finest work right here. The bass is in great played condition. Plenty of small dings and some checking to the finish but nothing untoward. I’ve had it professionally set up prior to the sale so nice action, oiled fret board and a new set of XL chromes fitted. I’m including a nice G&G hardcase in the sale, not original but a great case nonetheless. I sold a black ‘81 earlier this year for the same money as I’m asking for this which wasn’t as good and with a generic case so I think this represents decent value. All photos are in natural light. I can post if required or meet up within reason. Ideally I would like a straight sale as I’m in the middle of a house renovation so cash and space is king. Any questions please ask away.

  3. Well GAK had one in the sales and I pulled the trigger. It was less than some used ones I've seen advertised so I thought what the hell! I'll have to make do with the bridge for now until my credit card is in a more healthy condition but the Babicz will be on my shopping list. However I do have a bass with the Gibson 3 point and despite its limitations I've managed to set it up pretty well with a reasonably low and noise free action. A couple of months ago I finally scratched my Tbird itch with this Japanese Orville, a bass I never knew existed but after some research it seems that they're quite well regarded so I took the plunge. It doesn't disappoint. Although I've never played one I have to say that I don't really like the current Thunderbirds. I much prefer the chrome pups and the vintage reverse tuners on the Orville. I've only tried an Epiphone TB and it was not good at all so my experience with these is very limited. I've only played it at home through a tiny MarkBass combo but it sounds so good. I will be hoping to use the incoming bass with the band should it ever pull it's finger out and start playing again. Really looking forward to it's arrival and here's a pic of the Orville

  4. In stunning original condition and full working order. Flamed maple top. 35" Scale. 18 volt 3 band EQ. There are 2 small bruises on the top edge shoulder see picture, small mark on fretboard edge at 11th fret again see pic, otherwise she is unmarked with just general play swirls. She is a beauty and plays lovely. Original Peavey embossed hard case in excellent condition. £1095 Shipping UK £30 UK.

  5. Best two purchases for me, my GK Fusion 550 and my Spector Euro 4 LX. Both have been on my bucket list for a long time. Glad to finally tick them off. Also honourable mention for the NUX mighty plug pro, fantastic little gadget for rehearsing at home. Worst purchase has to go to some DR Hi beam strings. Purchased two packs and on both sets, the E string was totally dead after one rehearsal and one gig. I did contact DR to make them aware, and they said they send me a couple of 105 E strings, but nothing came of it. Maybe I’ll chase them up about that

  6. The point is, is she good looking enough to be a bass player? Irrespective of gender, it's a given that the bass player is, 99% of the time, the best looking in the band. If she wants to be in the club, then she needs the qualifications.

  10. Here it is...finally tried the TT5SL. I did a comparison of two fairly comparable bass guitars in all but one - weight. SL is incredibly light - only 2.7kg (5.95 lbs) UNREAL!

  11. Barely used. I prefer its bigger brother. The price includes postage.

  12. Why would you have needed lifeboats on a ship that wasn't going to sink? Makes perfect sense. Plus, when they made a law that all boats had to have enough lifeboats for everyone, at least 1 boat, the eastland, rolled over under the weight of the lifeboats and 800 people died. Either way, this is playing the bass, however bad you are its unlikely anyone is going to die

  13. Not sure why there is an issue - just say 'sure' and leave it at that, IME these things never get round to happening. If anything it is just a problem for another day

  14. Will do. At next rehearsal, I'll ask her how's she's getting on with her bass, and what her playing intentions are. See what she says.

  15. I'm going to do the gear abstinence thing for 2024 - got a good rig, a backup amp, a decent selection of basses and I'm not really into pedals beyond tuner/comp/overdrive so I think I'll cope.

  18. I still have these 3 Sandberg’s and they are all great to play but unfortunately for them I have a Bravewood P bass which steals the limelight… for the time being at least.

  21. I'm going to suggest that I take over some of our singer's duties in the band, namely, turning up late, not learning songs we're meant to, not lugging any gear around and never buying a drink.

  25. I'm not a huge fan of the standard Darkglass sound (although I've always been able to find a decent, usable tone in most of their pedals), but to compare them to "cheap guitar distortion" is a strange comment... have you spent any time playing them or is that based on Youtube clips?

  27. How true my friend...... In my teens in the early 70's l had a Bells musical instrument catalogue that l used to absolutely drool over every night in bed, constantly wishing l could afford a Selmer amp and cab. I did end up buying a Selmer Treble and Bass amp but l had to make my own cab with an 18 inch Goodmans speaker. I often look fondly back on those early days as a bassist. Now, over the years l have owned a wide variety of pro standard amps and cabs and lm fortunate enough to be able to buy what l want these days. But, l can't decide which gave me most pleasure...drooling and eventually saving month after month and the ultimate excitement of owning the item of my desire........or just going out and buying it....does that make sense?

  29. Hello! Picked this Japanese beaut up on a whim the other day, because you can't have too many Sunburst Precisions.... right? Spec... Jazz neck, oval tuners, light weight (8½lbs, thanks to the basswood body, which is surprisingly pretty). So far, the usual cliches apply. It's very resonant, balances well, feels great, it's rich and punchy... I'm gigging it on Boxing Day, and as ever the proof will be in the (Christmas) pudding. I'll report back..

  32. I'm abstaining from the abstinence thread. Last year (this year?) from genuinely saying "I'm in", and not needing or looking to buy anything, I was out within about ten minutes. To be fare I don't think I've bought a bass since though.

  37. My only experience with on-board editing is with the Zoom MS-60B which has a roughly similar number of physical rotary controls and buttons to the Dwarf but has a far, far simpler approach to "pedalboards" and "plugins", and in particular with a single, linear signal path. I struggle to imagine how the small mono chrome screen and limited controls could allow a user to navigate the arbitrary signal path and enormous number of plugins and parameters. I would see value in a simplified UI which works effectively via a Bluetooth connected smartphone, it is already possible to connect and edit this way, but only if you are patient/desperate. An optimized UI for mobile phones connected via BT, without the very high-definition graphics might be a better solution for those situations where you don't have a PC but want to be able to edit a pedalboard. This would also be cool, and might be enough for some users to solve the moblie-UI issue. I have also been thinking about this, there are some pretty good audio interfaces out there for not a lot of money, I think I would probably buy a separate device and leave the Dwarf CPU cycles free for effects/sims. The posts/wiki page I saw describing the current experimental status suggests that the latency is pretty high compared to a budget USB audio interface. This is an important one, some of the plugins are quite well documented, the Looperlative plugins for example; others have basically no documentation at all. The Dwarf has quite a steep learning curve, in part due to its power and sophistication but at least in part due to poor or missing documentation. I agree with this too, the existing single category (Reverb/Spatial/Distortion...) system is better than nothing but insufficient and user-supplied reviews/ratings could be quite useful. Similarly for pedalboards, I found it quite interesting and instructive to see how other users have constructed their boards but it is not always easy to find relevant boards.

  38. I would LOVE to hear that! Spector and Gallien Krueger are made for each other. Sadly after going through about 10 of them over the years I've realised that I really don't get on with the Spector Euro necks. Still one of my favourite sounding basses though.

  39. The only potential issue with lifting a cab by any method is some loss of boundary reinforcement from the floor, but it has to be a good meter or so before it becomes apparent, and then it's in the midbass that causes boom, so it can be an improvement. If this case is the one you're hauling your cab in using it as a stand is a good idea, as it also gives you a place to store it while playing.

  41. Completely agree, I work in IT and should not find the Mod Dwarf intimidating but I do. It's hard work to get into it and make it sing. I suppose I could compare Amplitube and Bias FX 2 to a Windows computer as it's easy to get going and Mod Dwarf to a Unix box, difficult to get into and to make things happen easily but once you do understand it, incredibly powerful. As someone who has made a good career out of Unix, I am mortified I can't make the Mod Dwarf do what I want with zero issues 😩 New year and all that, so I'll have another go. Rob

  42. Best is a MusicMan Stingray 5. I haven't had a 5 string for years (and the last one was a relatively cheap Washburn 2502) and joined a couple of bands this year that were playing songs that benefited from the lower notes. Worst was a Sandberg California TM5 purchased from a bass retailer online and within minutes of it being delivered, I initiated a return. I was after something a bit lighter than the Stingray and saw the Sandberg advertised online with a weight of 7lb 10oz. When it arrived though, I unpacked it and was shocked at how heavy it was. It was heavier than the Stingray! It transpires that there had been an error and it should have been advertised at 10lb 7oz.

  45. I have a power supply addiction (weird I know). I already have a Cioks DC7 and Cioks 4, Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 3, Fender Engine Room LVL8, TRex Fuel Tank Jr, Boss PSA 230s and a 1Spot. I got a new power supply at Christmas, but this looks like my next hit. Sorry kids, you'll have to go hungry again.
