  1. Agreed! If she looks like Tony Levin (shaved head, big grey moustache), then she is stage-ready.

  2. Great example of a classic bass in trans red from the early days of G&L when Leo Fender was firmly at the helm. Probably some of his finest work right here. The bass is in great played condition. Plenty of small dings and some checking to the finish but nothing untoward. I’ve had it professionally set up prior to the sale so nice action, oiled fret board and a new set of XL chromes fitted. I’m including a nice G&G hardcase in the sale, not original but a great case nonetheless. I sold a black ‘81 earlier this year for the same money as I’m asking for this which wasn’t as good and with a generic case so I think this represents decent value. All photos are in natural light. I can post if required or meet up within reason. Ideally I would like a straight sale as I’m in the middle of a house renovation so cash and space is king. Any questions please ask away.

  3. Well GAK had one in the sales and I pulled the trigger. It was less than some used ones I've seen advertised so I thought what the hell! I'll have to make do with the bridge for now until my credit card is in a more healthy condition but the Babicz will be on my shopping list. However I do have a bass with the Gibson 3 point and despite its limitations I've managed to set it up pretty well with a reasonably low and noise free action. A couple of months ago I finally scratched my Tbird itch with this Japanese Orville, a bass I never knew existed but after some research it seems that they're quite well regarded so I took the plunge. It doesn't disappoint. Although I've never played one I have to say that I don't really like the current Thunderbirds. I much prefer the chrome pups and the vintage reverse tuners on the Orville. I've only tried an Epiphone TB and it was not good at all so my experience with these is very limited. I've only played it at home through a tiny MarkBass combo but it sounds so good. I will be hoping to use the incoming bass with the band should it ever pull it's finger out and start playing again. Really looking forward to it's arrival and here's a pic of the Orville

  4. In stunning original condition and full working order. Flamed maple top. 35" Scale. 18 volt 3 band EQ. There are 2 small bruises on the top edge shoulder see picture, small mark on fretboard edge at 11th fret again see pic, otherwise she is unmarked with just general play swirls. She is a beauty and plays lovely. Original Peavey embossed hard case in excellent condition. £1095 Shipping UK £30 UK.

  5. Best two purchases for me, my GK Fusion 550 and my Spector Euro 4 LX. Both have been on my bucket list for a long time. Glad to finally tick them off. Also honourable mention for the NUX mighty plug pro, fantastic little gadget for rehearsing at home. Worst purchase has to go to some DR Hi beam strings. Purchased two packs and on both sets, the E string was totally dead after one rehearsal and one gig. I did contact DR to make them aware, and they said they send me a couple of 105 E strings, but nothing came of it. Maybe I’ll chase them up about that

  6. The point is, is she good looking enough to be a bass player? Irrespective of gender, it's a given that the bass player is, 99% of the time, the best looking in the band. If she wants to be in the club, then she needs the qualifications.

  10. Here it is...finally tried the TT5SL. I did a comparison of two fairly comparable bass guitars in all but one - weight. SL is incredibly light - only 2.7kg (5.95 lbs) UNREAL!

  11. Barely used. I prefer its bigger brother. The price includes postage.

  12. Why would you have needed lifeboats on a ship that wasn't going to sink? Makes perfect sense. Plus, when they made a law that all boats had to have enough lifeboats for everyone, at least 1 boat, the eastland, rolled over under the weight of the lifeboats and 800 people died. Either way, this is playing the bass, however bad you are its unlikely anyone is going to die

  13. Not sure why there is an issue - just say 'sure' and leave it at that, IME these things never get round to happening. If anything it is just a problem for another day

  14. Will do. At next rehearsal, I'll ask her how's she's getting on with her bass, and what her playing intentions are. See what she says.

  15. I'm going to do the gear abstinence thing for 2024 - got a good rig, a backup amp, a decent selection of basses and I'm not really into pedals beyond tuner/comp/overdrive so I think I'll cope.

  18. I still have these 3 Sandberg’s and they are all great to play but unfortunately for them I have a Bravewood P bass which steals the limelight… for the time being at least.

  25. I'm not a huge fan of the standard Darkglass sound (although I've always been able to find a decent, usable tone in most of their pedals), but to compare them to "cheap guitar distortion" is a strange comment... have you spent any time playing them or is that based on Youtube clips?

  27. How true my friend...... In my teens in the early 70's l had a Bells musical instrument catalogue that l used to absolutely drool over every night in bed, constantly wishing l could afford a Selmer amp and cab. I did end up buying a Selmer Treble and Bass amp but l had to make my own cab with an 18 inch Goodmans speaker. I often look fondly back on those early days as a bassist. Now, over the years l have owned a wide variety of pro standard amps and cabs and lm fortunate enough to be able to buy what l want these days. But, l can't decide which gave me most pleasure...drooling and eventually saving month after month and the ultimate excitement of owning the item of my desire........or just going out and buying it....does that make sense?

  29. *NOW SOLD* This was built using Warmoth parts. Not by myself but I will give as much info as I know/can. The ‘branding’ is lacquered in but easy enough to remove and replace with your own. Set up nicely, sounds great, balances well and definitely would be quite expensive to do now using Warmoth (or any decent quality as parts/shipping costly). So here’s a chance to have a bargain and a great instrument in one go!!… It’s a lot of bass for the money. I do however understand it’s a punt but it only needs to be ‘discovered’. (and a bit of a one of a kind) I’ll try to answer your good questions. Hopefully I can add clear and helpful photos (or pm me for private emails) *Neck: 35” neck 5 piece bolt on (6 bolts) maple/ Purpleheart with 24 large frets and black Gotoh tuners in a 3/2 position, bone nut, single truss rod (headstock accessible) and Ebony fingerboard. There are also side markers in ‘between frets’ position. *Body: Solid maple with stringers that match the neck. (Stringers look like Purpleheart) to me, but correct me if I’m wrong). Deep neck pocket holds the neck securely (6 bolts) with no movement at all!! So at the moment the spacing is set at 75mm total (string centre to string centre). Average string spacing thus between 18-19mm. Can be reduced by at least 5 mm or increased by a bit less (due to max width of the neck of 78mm at the highest point). *Electronics: Passive with Volume/Tone (switchable)/4 way rotary switch (single/single/series/parallel) with side mounted Jack socket (even this has Purpleheart). The controls are recessed into the body and there is no back cavity (don’t ask as I don’t know how he did it). *Single MM style pickup with dual coils (switchable). *Marleaux branded ETS (German) bridge with quick release slots and lockable/adjustable saddles. (For string spacing/height/intonation). *Sound wise I’d say between a G&L and Musicman (with the described variations). *Great balance between strings and the B is very good (35” is my standard). *The overall condition is good with signs of use but no major damages. Collection/trials in Aylesbury. Shipping can be buyer arranged or paid by buyer. Orderly queue please😇 edit: Well…I did weigh it (albeit) on a dodgy luggage scale. It’s just over 10lbs. Solid!! I also looked at the controls a bit more and it’s really clever if you’re into that sort of thing. The Tone control is actually a rotary switch that dials in tone in or completely out. The pickup switch is also a rotary switch with 4 positions: Rear coil/Front coil/Both coils parallel/Both coils series. All positions sounds great and makes it quite a versatile instrument. (The pot is a bit scratchy but maybe from lack of use).

  30. I'm abstaining from the abstinence thread. Last year (this year?) from genuinely saying "I'm in", and not needing or looking to buy anything, I was out within about ten minutes. To be fare I don't think I've bought a bass since though.

  31. Had some teething problems with it. Heel was wider than the pocket, not a huge problem. Finding a bridge as tall as the TOM and with narrow spacing , that was a bigger problem. Bought this big chunky Sung Il, it was tall enough and I could shave the sides of the saddles for a tighter spacing. Wound up with this.

  32. I've used my Orange Terror with 1x12 cab for a jazz jam on guitar before (G&L ASAT). The tone wasn't bad at all and nicely clean.

  33. I had something similar about 25 years back, when a local luthier got some rolled brass (3mm thick iirc) fingerboard blanks and fitted one for me. It was great, but not actually as fret-bright as I had initially expected. Be interesting to hear whether a 0.1mm thickness steel will be enough, but great project either way.. Good luck!

  34. I would LOVE to hear that! Spector and Gallien Krueger are made for each other. Sadly after going through about 10 of them over the years I've realised that I really don't get on with the Spector Euro necks. Still one of my favourite sounding basses though.

  37. Completely agree, I work in IT and should not find the Mod Dwarf intimidating but I do. It's hard work to get into it and make it sing. I suppose I could compare Amplitube and Bias FX 2 to a Windows computer as it's easy to get going and Mod Dwarf to a Unix box, difficult to get into and to make things happen easily but once you do understand it, incredibly powerful. As someone who has made a good career out of Unix, I am mortified I can't make the Mod Dwarf do what I want with zero issues 😩 New year and all that, so I'll have another go. Rob

  39. My favourite buy of the year is an old ABM and I’m really happy with it. I’ve had a 600 previously for comparison and personally think that the ‘older ABMs are terrible’ nonsense is exactly that, nonsense.

  41. I have a power supply addiction (weird I know). I already have a Cioks DC7 and Cioks 4, Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 3, Fender Engine Room LVL8, TRex Fuel Tank Jr, Boss PSA 230s and a 1Spot. I got a new power supply at Christmas, but this looks like my next hit. Sorry kids, you'll have to go hungry again.

  44. You don't see many of these... Absolutely beautiful and near mint condition 40th anniversary P-bass. One of only 400 ever built and never reissued. Most incredible woods I've ever seen on a Fender, from the ebony on the fretboard to the Birdseye maple neck to the quilt maple top. Lace sensor pickups and Kubicki preamp. All original and includes original tweed case, certificate and case candy. The word 'top' has been written on the top side of the case which is actually quite helpful in making sure it's stood up correctly. Collection greatly preferred, I'm happy to travel within reasonable distance, but could post if necessary. Sale preferred but could be tempted by trades/px of basses or guitars, definitely prefer vintage items though.

  45. Yes, te Fender Custom Shop Jaco Pastorius was similarly a rip off, I lifted it out of its case with the reverence that it undoubtedly deserved, plugged i in to my B-15 and started playing, and it sounded like some fecking idiot from Kent was playing it
