Rickenbacker to open/use a factory in the Far East so we could get decent quality at a reasonable price rather than dubious/variable quality at a ridiculous price.6 points

***SOLD*** - BLACK FENDER JMJ MUSTANG £900 Purchased from @Brucegill on 7th August, it was love at first play with this bass. As you probably already know these basses are sublime, easy to play, sound amazing, incredible neck, and so on and so forth. So, if it is such a great bass, why am I selling it? Well, I play in an acoustic duo and I already have two semi-hollow @Jabba_the_gut basses that suit our musical needs like a glove and yet, I still have this notion that there is a solid bodied bass out there that'll fit in with our sound. (In all honesty I don't think there is but it sounds like a good excuse rather than saying GAS). I'm waffling. So, the bass is strung with glorious La Bella 760F-MUS stainless steel flats, the price also includes a Fender gig bag and three more scratchplates. As well as the black one that's on it... the original white pearloid 4 ply brown celluloid from TinyTone 4 ply red celluloid from TinyTone ...the last two scratchplates cost just over £100 and are pristine, I bought them after I purchased the bass and they are band new (see last pic above). The tug bar is missing in the pics above but I have just put it back on. The price is firm as I just want to recoup what I paid for it and you get £100 of scratchplates thrown in essentially for free. You are welcome to come and try the bass out or I am happy to drive it to you (within reason) or meet up half-way. Obviously I'd rather not risk a courier and will drive a significant distance to avoid this but will post if there is no alternative. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions or request more pics. Here is my Mustang NBD thread. Here is @Brucegill's original advert that has somemore pics.5 points

This lovely V6 has been an on/off feature at the studio since early 2019 and is in plenty of pictures here on the forum. The previous owner and I had an agreement that I would store his Ampeg cab at the studio as long as the V6 came with it - something that has worked well for the two of us as both the 8x10 and V-Type have featured on many recordings. ❤️ As time has moved on and his band circumstances changed a little, I was offered the big Trace at a very reasonable price and let's be honest, if I ever had a weakness, it's TE V-Types. 😃 It's pretty clean throughout and sounds fantastic (obviously!) so I'll take it to rehearsal next week and see how it goes. I love these things. ❤️4 points

First year at uni. Took my 1.1 Fiesta down with me, upgraded the radio, added speakers on the parcel shelf in the back, and had a shoe box full of tapes to dip into as the mood took me. Good times! These are the albums I remember playing the most: U2 "Unforgettable Fire" Level 42 "World Machine" Stevie Ray Vaughan "Couldn't Stand the Weather" Kate Bush "Hounds of Love" Killing Joke "Night Time" Judie Tzuke "Ritmo" Icehouse "Primitive Man" Plus plenty of older Purple, Rainbow and Whitesnake.4 points

Are you sure you're not getting mixed up between gain, drive, overdrive, distortion, boost, grit, fuzz, crunch and dirt..?4 points

I have the vintage blonde and love it! Sounds great, plays well, is light, and looks the part. The satin finish on the neck and body are really nice. £259 is a steal.4 points

Here's my new (almost) All Boss board I have replaced my Pedaltrain nano plus with a Harley Benton Spaceship Power 50C. This has the PSU with isolated 9v outputs built into the board and it connects to the mains via a kettle lead. Some of the outputs can be switched to 12 or 18V, and it has USB-A & USB-C outputs on the back for charging your phone etc. The bag it comes with is absolutely perfect and it also comes with every power adaptor cable you could imagine. I fitted a Harley Benton SpaceShip Pedalboard Blue LED strip to the bottom front of the board as I think it looks rather good. My boss pedals are TU-3 tuner SY-1 Synth - for doubling bass with cool 60s organ LMB-3 Bass Limiter Enhancer - always on ODB-3 Bass Overdrive with Monte Allums mod - for when I want to add a bit more dirt to what I already get from my Ashdown ABM600 Evo iv CEB-3 Bass Chorus - arrived today, I'm sure I'll find a job for it in the setlist Then half on/half falling off the end the board is my trusty thumpinator. Not sure whether I still need this with the ABM600 though.4 points

This........... They are musicians. Its obviously their passion. They dont need the money. Too many cynics around. Alot of people love the Stones. Let them play until they cant anymore. Not many bands have lasted this long.3 points

Mid-1980s Saxon. Wow. The unacceptable use of spandex, lycra and hairspray by men who were way too old and way too northern for it to be legal. It's still not too late for the culprits to be brought to justice.3 points

Amen to that. The version on The Last Waltz is magnificent. Love the way Levon pushes it so hard on drums without ever overcooking it.3 points

Joan Baez's version of The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down. I would have supported the death penalty for that one!!3 points

I was probably listening to albums and tapes from the likes of Bobby Bland, The Blues Brothers, Robert Cray, Stevie Wonder, BB King, Albert Collins, Tina Turner, Ry Cooder, John Hiatt, Eric Clapton, Tower of Power.3 points

Status series 1. Plays very niceley indeed, its got a very thin neck front to back and it's super stable, The bass is 9/10 condition with no dings or scratches to note, The pickup covers have a small crack in them, it's barely noticable and it certainly doesn't affect the sound, but I like to be transparent about these things. You're welcome to come and try it, but I'm a bit far north, so not practical for everybody. I can do whatsaap video calls if that helps, can demo anything or provide more pictures. It really is a lovely instrument, but I just bought something else, so could do with moving some stuff on before the missus kicks me in the balls. Thanks for looking, any questions, just fire away.3 points

From experience, adding a capacitor to a bridge pickup won't make it sound like a Rickenbacker, nor will it particularly change how the pickups interact with each other. A Rickenbacker pickup sounds like that regardless of the cap, that just changes the character slightly. I added a cap to the back pickup on a BC Rich and it certainly thins the tone out... at the moment it's got a push/pull for series/parallel output from the pickup but I might change this to switch the cap in and out instead. On a Rick, when both pickups are full on with the cap engaged they interact very differently, resulting in a less scooped, hollow twang like you'd get with a Jazz, for example. On my BC Rich it still has that hollow twang to the top end but still retains the mids, if that makes sense. By all means try it, you might have more luck than I did! Picture for no reason other than it's a cool looking bass!3 points

...assuming you're a} alive and b} old enough, what tape are you putting in your Walkman or car stereo? For me, it's a C90 with Level 42's eponymous 1st album on one side and their 'Pursuit of Accidents' on the other.2 points

Probably copies of the Derek and Clive albums, and bootlegs of various Chubby Brown gigs.2 points

I put a Kent Armstrong pickup in my Electra VS4 because one band needed a more vintage tone for a couple of gigs. It does that brilliantly, especially with TI flats. And it still rocks with nickel rounds in my dad rock band (I play through a TC BQ500, which has a very clean, modern tone so the Sandberg p/u was a bit too bright). I also swapped out the pre-amp for a K10gon passive loom because the volume control was faulty. I couldn’t be happier!2 points

I was 20 years old in 1985, so for sure Yello Stella on one side and Uzeb Between the Lines on the other side. And another cassette with Joe Jackson Big World on one side and The Pogues Rum, Sodomy, and the Lash on the other and singing (more certainly yelling) like a mad man in the car when Dirty Old Town was playing.2 points

I couldn't afford a car or even a Walkman in 1985. If I had it would have been Doot-Doot by Freur (which even though it came out in 1983 had yet to be bettered by anyone IMO) or A Secret Wish by Propaganda.2 points

Projecting coolness onto my young self, it would be Celtic Frost - To Mega Therion and Watchtower - Energetic Disassembly In reality, it was Now That's What I Call Music 6 and Hits! The Album 32 points

Basschatters to cease and desist the 'gain' 'not gain' banterage .....and Mike Lull basses to be cheaper ....and Bass Collection to change their naff headstock logo ....and all amp makers to provide backlit control panels/knobs so i can see wtf i'm doing on a dark stage when I'm not wearing my glasses so I look more like a rock star!2 points

Ooh, that's a tough choice. Probably a home done compilation tape with, amongst others: Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer, Dead Kennedys, The Damned, Minor Threat, Iron Maiden, Dio, WASP, The Cramps, The Meteors...2 points

That's the reality from the POV of many sellers of used gear, a lot of people either don't notice faults or don't worry about faults. I'm not one of those people2 points

I have a Micro Thumpinator last in my chain before my amp. Signal path is bass (or EUB) into EBS Stanley Clarke pre, Plethora X3 & Sansamp in the loop of the EBS, then EBS out to Micro Thumpinator, then on to my amp. I take the DI from the EBS to the PA, and when I’m mixing in both of my bands, I use the PEQ high pass to dial out the ultra low end in the PA. When I’m not mixing, the house engineer gets a full fat bass signal to do with as he likes.2 points

Ha! As if! You just need a USB-C to 3.5mm jack converter like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/google-pixel-6-headphone-adapter/s?k=google+pixel+6+headphone+adapter2 points

I'll take one of these but with a big switch marked "Lemmy" which replicates his sound.2 points

I've seen a few threads on pickguards for these and reckon the original plate suits the Dakota red best. That bright red and the tint in the glossed neck just zing with the anodised plate!2 points
-
All of what you're describing is possible - but it would be far better (not to mention cheaper) to get a new bass. The out of tune thing sounds like a setup issue, intonation, specifically - so why not stave off the GAS monster by learning how to set up your bass?2 points
-
But..... that's exactly what "gain" is. It's an increase in signal level. When you do it at the front end of a circuit it's just making it louder at that point in the path.2 points
