Some very lovely comments on this post and I'm humbled, truth is Cloudbusting are just 5 silly twots who happen to like Kate Bush and play the various instruments needed to replicate it. I'm proud as punch to be there, have been there for over 9 years now, longest I've been with any band, which just goes to show really4 points

I have also had designs stolen, it’s becoming a bigger and bigger deal as design cycles shorten with increased competition. I feel you pain here. Even if I was to design an SMPS/class D module, due to the complexity and difficulty to troubleshoot versus the cost of building the module, it would still be less expensive in most cases to simply replace the module. The problem with the higher technology is that it’s very expensive and time consuming to develop, and even more so to do it reliably. (There are plenty of examples of unreliable “roll your own” designs by big and small manufacturers alike). In order to amortize these costs (and that includes global safety and EMC certification) to keep the cost per module down, the production volumes need to be much higher than most in the bass industry could ever use in several lifetimes. This is why top tier companies like ICEPower exist, they sell to other industries also, in addition to dominating the bass market. This allows them to spread the NRE costs across hundreds of thousands to millions of modules. Economies of scale are responsible for class D being a viable solution AND a good value to the players.4 points

Hi everybody! this is my first topic and i hope to not do mistakes! I'm from Italy and since five years i follow this great and fine Bass forum. I've known some Basschat members and do several business with them overall about Ken Smith and Fodera basses. I play doublebass in Gipsy Jazz Quartet ensemble and hard rock / blues in Trio ensemble. I'm very happy to introduce to You all my head bass, self assembled! Specs are: - Alder body with hand pyrographed "dead tree", true-oil hand finish - MIM Fender P51 neck with brass nut and Fender D-tuner - Dimarzio Relentless neck pickup with volume pot and series/parallel bobine selector) - Dimarzio relentless middle pickup with volume and passive tone pots - Stereo/Mono output selector - hand satin bridge and bridge cover It sounds very powerful with huge lowend and round highs. I use with my Helix Stomp for emulate Billy Sheehan sound and many other vintage style of sound since old P to Gibson EB0, Hofner style sound and many other with effects or in dry mode...4 points

Recently acquired this late '70's ET-285 that desperately needed a new pickguard. So I got it one, just put some new DR flats on it, gave it a good setup and it's a really awesome bass now.3 points

Fabulous looking instrument! The gold is fine, nothing wrong with a little bit of bling here and there. 🌟3 points

I was reading the information, sent out by ICEPower recently, about their new 2000W modules and these points jumped out at me. To meet EMC/RFI requirements for even a medium sized MI company would be prohibitive. The cost a new ICEPOwer module does not come close costs close to a set of atV alves/Tubes in a big Ampeg* head. Yet no one seems to worry about replacing valves regularly. *£376 for full set of valves/tubes for an SVT at Watford Valves or more than half the price of a Mesa Boogie Subway D-800 currently in Europe.3 points

That’s gorgeous. Congratulations Mark! FWIW I like the gold bridges, but I don’t mind gold hardware. Black would be fine too, but either way, it’s stunning. Food for thought; I want one! I’d be interested to know what it weighs….3 points

Oh good lord I love almost** everything about that. Absolutely gorgeous. I await sound clips with bated breath. There will be sound clips, right? Right..? ** the gold/black hardware mismatch is a bit jarring for my tastes, and it's missing a string but obvs that's entirely personal preference3 points

:: SANDBERG California TTi - Lollar TBs :: Soft-Aged :: Special Run :: only 15 pieces worldwide :: Here I offer my gorgeous and just bought Sandberg California TTi Bass. The Sandberg California Bass should be well known regarding. The special feature of this special model, limited to 15 pieces, are certainly the Lollar Thunderbird pickups. These give the bass not only a particularly cool look, but also a very powerful and defined sound. The output and the dynamics are on the level of active basses despite the passive circuit. Another special feature is the color "Light Grey", which is more reminiscent of a faded sonic blue and harmonizes super with the chrome-plated hardware. The bass has received the Sandberg soft-aging. All marks and scratches come as "from the factory" and are created by the luthier. It's a matter of taste - I think it's pretty cool! I bought the bass at Zoundhouse music store (Dresden / Germany) at the beginning of this year. Unfortunately, two weeks ago an ultra-rare and always on my wish list Celinder J Update came across my way. It cost me a lot of money and since the 30-day return period had just expired, I am now offering this special bass as new at a reduced price. The bass comes with an original Sandberg gig bag, which can be exchanged for a case in "vintage tweed design" if desired. The bass can be seen, played and bought in 58300 Wetter (Ruhr), Dortmund or Recklinghausen (Germany). Since I'm on vacation on Sylt next week, a free "delivery service" to the north of Germany would also be possible. Otherwise I also offer free shipping within Germany and worldwide shipping upon request. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Here is the official "press release" and the technical data: The Sandberg Special Edition California T4 Passive RW Light Grey Soft Aged electric bass comes as a special run of the popular California-T model, limited to 15 pieces, with a specially designed finish and powerful Lollar Thunderbird HB pickups, which together with the straightforward passive circuitry make it a first-class all-round bass for almost any style of rock or metal. In addition to the offset alder body, the four-stringer also features a bolt-on maple neck with rosewood fingerboard and comfortable "C" profile, while indestructible Sandberg hardware completes the features of the Special Edition California T4 Passive RW Light Grey Soft Aged by Sandberg. :: Alder body in offset design :: bolt-on maple neck with rosewood fingerboard and matching headstock :: Abalone dots fretboard inlays :: scale length: 864 mm (34") :: Fretboard radius: 14" :: nut width: 39,5 mm (1,55") :: 22 frets :: pickups: 2x Lollar Thunderbird style :: passive electronics with volume, balance and tone :: Parchment pickguard :: Sandberg Lightweight tuners and Sandberg hardware :: Color: Light Grey (RAL7035) :: Sandberg soft-aging :: incl. bag :: Original price: 2.390,-- EUR :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Feel free to ask any questitions - but please: NO TRADES!2 points

Being as it's the anniversary today of Garbage's 2.0 album, (which is excellent), I've just grabbed Envy Of None's album - which sounds like it's going to be right up my street.2 points

I bought this with my first check from a paying band. I was 19. A 1962 Precision. I’ve had other basses along the way that have come and gone, but this one stays. It fits in my hands perfectly.2 points

I have not noticed that lyric. My issue is that our Church is affiliated to the North West Baptist Association. NWBA. Every time anyone says NWBA, I expect to hear NWA.2 points

I've been watching the service, quite forgot I was supposed to look out for your bass playing. Pass on my compliments to the preacher and everyone involved, I enjoyed the service. And especially do pass on my regards to your tech team on the sound, camera work and stream quality all top notch and therefore completely unnoticeable. I know from the last two years it takes a lot of effort to get the tech good enough that nobody even notices anymore! On a completely different note - does anyone else have a problem with hearing the lyric "He aids us against the Enemy" as "He aids us against the NME"? No, thought not, it is just me ☹️2 points

Amongst many others! You know where you are with a Del bassline. I also relish doing Eberhard Webers uprite stuff, and John Giblins fretless lines and and and...... In fact, the show you featured earlier up there was not actually a Cloudbusting show, we have an 'acoustic' offshoot called The Kate Bush Songbook, where Michael (keys) Mandy and I get to explore the more delicate stuff from KB's catalog. Del had played on our two 40th anniversary of the Kick Inside special shows, which was quite a thing in itself, whilst doing so he expressed an interest in doing a short tour with Songbook, so I stepped aside and they played 9 shows as a trio in 2019. The 'Twinnies', Julia and Nadie ( @ezbass mates) joined them and added BV's and colour for 3 of those. I'm back in the bass saddle for those shows now though, and I have to say they are such a blast to play, not as thrilling as playing a ballsout stand up show to tens of people but incredible to play in their own way. I get much more nerves doing one of those to a hundred than playing the usual to a thousand2 points

This is a really enlightening post. As a useless anecdotal note, my 'dream amps' as a teenager in the late 90s and early to mid 2000s were generally the boutique hybrid/Mosfet amps or all valve amps that were priced at around £1500-£2000 bracket even then. The cost of the boutique class D bass heads that my 14 year old nephew dreams of owning are generally in the £800-£1200 bracket in 2022. In the meantime the cost of a passive US made Fender bass (say the old American Standard compared to the new American Pro) have essentially doubled in the same timeframe. With that in mind I think that the modern class D amps offer phenomenal value.2 points

If it was properly Wal like, you'd not be getting it for 3 more years... Came out beautiful. Have lots of fun with it. PS: I'd probably ditch the gold bridges too, but it's not like I couldn't live with it as is.2 points

I really ought to make a standard reply and save it so I can copy paste it every time someone suggest abnormally thick gauge strings for short scale basses relatively to their actual scale length, it'll sound like donkey as soon as you go up the fretboard because of the increased stiffness/inflexibility of the strings in relation to gauge, regardless of the lower actual tension, being a function of the shorter scale as a result of the relatively shorter vibrating length of the strings, an effect that will increase exponentially as you go up the fretboard. Personally I prefer a set with a gauge .095 low E string for a 30" short scale bass, and I think that is the optimal gauge for a low E string of a 30" scale instrument, certainly you wouldn't want ever to go any higher than a gauge .100 low E string if you want it to sound decent, the thinner gauge strings will also result in more harmonic content, which already is naturally reduced due to the shorter scale length, you wouldn't want to add to that effect by equipping it with abnormally thick strings relatively to the scale length. You can't expect ripping the strings like if you were handling the string of a bow aiming for a long shot and fretting them like you needed to squash a walnut, if you adjust your playing style accordingly to the instrument you actually play you'll find that the natural lower tension of a short scale bass is actually not an issue, but rather makes for a really comfortable playing experience, instead of equipping abnormally thick strings relatively to the scale length, which will result in preventing them from vibrating properly because of the relative increase of stiffness/inflexibility as a result of the shorter vibrating length, just so you can go on handling your short scale bass like as if it was the exact same instrument as your 34" scale bass, but sound like absolute donkey, that is all thud and mud, with no sustain and no harmonic content, as a result. Try equipping a regular 24.75" or 25.5" scale electric guitar with the gauge of strings that'll give them the same tension as the strings on your 34" scale bass and see how that sounds, there's a reason for them being much much lower tension than bass strings, and that is the scale length, which as said results in accordingly stiffer/less flexible strings. For drop D on a 30" short scale bass though you do properly need a gauge .105 low D string.2 points

I'd go for the Peavey. Years ago I played through one very similar (though it had obviously had an infinitely harder paper round) at a rehearsal room and it actually became a little bit on-fire while I was using it, but it didn't stop working! At the time I thought the guitarist was really digging my playing, but it turned out I just hadn't seen his "is that smoke?!" dance before.2 points

Oh dear, I've volunteered myself to join the random group that plays at the monthly informal "Cafe Church" service at my little rural church. Just a couple of acoustic guitars and now with me too on bass next Sunday. Nearest thing to a gig I've done in a very long time. Hope it doesn't cut into the amount of cakes and tea I usually consume at that service...2 points

So I saw the KT Bush band at the Rose of Lee (music pub in s.London) in 1979. Might even have been her first gig…. I remember thinking it was more theatre than anything else, don’t remember there being an actual stage, she kind of floated into the audience (maybe 200 of us?) good gig - stayed to the end! We all knew it was something special…..2 points
