NOW SOLD Here we have a very fine example of a very good quality MIJ Jazz bass which I bought a good few years back I got it from a guy in London who had bought it for his father in the early seventies but he played very little and it was stored in his bedroom for over 40 years in the original case hence the wonderful condition, even the lining is like new. I have never seen another until one came up here recently with the Kimbara badge and they are identical with the steel adjustable MIJ neck plate I think that these were imported under Various names such as kimbara ect.... Its in wonderful condition with no rust or pitting to the chrome hardware and is all original with both pickup covers, I have looked inside the cavities and the wood is solid and not plywood as some of these era guitars were. The workmanship is top notch with lovely binding and block inlays. A comfortable 40mm neck width When I first got it and opened the case I was shocked at how good a condition it was in, as if it came straight from the factory, there are a few very tiny dings that you have to look hard to find and difficult to photograph but that are minor Weight is 4.6 Kg which is the exact same weight as my 75 Reissue Fender Jazz A beautiful collectors piece and probably the best condition bass I have seen for that age The price includes delivery to UK addresses Any question Guys just fire away7 points

Two Wal mk1’s. The fretless in particular is very special to me. Bought for my 21st in 1983 by my Dad, who unfortunately passed away just two months later. Obvious sentimental value but the fact that it’s a truly wonderful thing helps immensely. I’m 60 this year and this bass feels and plays as good if not better that it did 38yrs ago.7 points

Hi there! Over the years I ordered many basses to many great luthiers. One of them was Ritter Roya 5 in 2017. Process ordering was really nice. I remember like yesterday being to his place and chossing the amaizing AAA Quilted Maple top and rest of woods. So I got the bass in 2017 and since then I was playing only home a few times because I also ordered in 2014 an Alleva Coppolo LG5 (jimmywood fingerboard) which was more suited to my music. Bass did not left my home and was all the time in the case. So, the bass is in mint condition, comes with nice case (see photo), all original papers from Jens Ritter including Certificat of Authenticity. (The gold writting, can be easily delated on the back of the headstock if that is a problem. Is not a permanent marker). See specs of the bass in photos! Price 4999 euro + shipping. Trades possible, but value for trade will be 6000 euro. Try me with a nice Fodera or a Ken Smith Elite. No 4 strings.5 points

I'm selling my Moollon B524, it's a great bass as you probably know about Moollon. It's painted very thin coats of nitrocellulose in root beer finish, I think that finish in not available anymore. I have an extra pair of Moollon pickups, the new ones are on the bass, they are more mellow than the old ones. You can try and see for yourself what suits you. It has a few dings on finish from use but it's in great shape. Wonderful low B and tracks exceptionally well. Will be shipped in ProTerc gigbag. I'm the first owner. Construction: bolt on Body: Alder Neck: 1 piece quartersawn maple Fingerboard: Macassar ebony Fret's: 24th Neck width at nut: 45mm String spacing: 19mm Handmade passive Moollon dual-coil pickups Scale length: 34” Hardware: Moollon fabricated in-house Finish: Rootbeer, nitrocellulose finish Pots: volume neck, tone neck, volume bridge, tone bridge, 3-way pickup selector Weight: 4.2 kg (bathroom scale) Here are few clips of the bass, but you can find them also on youtube https://www.facebook.com/1007775001/videos/778468232865284/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvlH7lAcwaA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0iJ6-hbIFY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUJsJxSCqHs https://youtu.be/PTaPwJso7iY I would trade it for Moollon J5. Bass is located in Zagreb, Croatia. Shipping across EU is around 50-70 euros. You can check my feedback page on basschat here:5 points

Since I have decided to go back to drop tuned four string basses, I am putting up for sale a couple of my 5 stringers. First up is my Fame Baphomet 5 bought from another basschatter last year while on tour. Those are German handmade basses made by the same people that makes Mayones basses. The bass is very Warwick inspired in look and feel (MEC pickups, sculpted back, 2 band EQ, tight string spacing). The 2 band EQ makes it incredibly versatile and it can be played passive too (volume pot is a push pull pot). The finish is very striking and it's rough to the touch, I have tried my best to capture it in photo. It has a small dink above the fretboard and a small scratch on the neck but nothing that affects playability. It's been a great pairing to my Warwick Double Buck and I hope it goes to a good household where it gets played. Weight wise my scale says it's 3.8kg but it feels much lighter. Bass comes in a sturdy Fame case as well. Those basses are around £800 quid new so I think £450 is reasonable. No trades as I have just bought something else and I don't want to get shot by my girlfriend. I am based in St Albans, Hertfordshire so feel free to come around to try it. Happy to drive a reasonable distance to deliver/meet up for fuel money or to package it up and use a courier. Happy to use Paypal as long as you're happy to cover the Paypal fees.4 points

Picked this up today for a very modest sum of money. Didn’t go to buy it, it just kinda happened and was added to a deal. I must say, even with crappy old strings on it sure sounds nice!4 points

… so I’m going to consolidate my many boards into a ‘Home only’ board for looping stuff etc and a ‘live board’ each for church and then Funk/Motown stuff. Just picked up a used Pedaltrain JR Max for a great price also 👍🏼. My current crop: … the new board: … and what it’ll hopefully look like with one more pedal purchase (Fredric Effects BugCrusher at some point):4 points

I sell my beloved bass from my birth year. Was made in the end of 1974 beggining of 1975 and this can be checked after the 4 bolt screws of the bass. Tone black knob is not original. (See pic). Bass cames with a strong and expensive Calzone hardcase: https://www.calzoneandanvil.com/product/bass-guitar-case/ Price 2999 euro + shipping. No trades!3 points

Really enjoyable! An enclosed, heated rooftop bar "battle of the bands" in Bushwick, Brooklyn. We were the old guys playing with a bunch of much younger bands. Our singer entered us in the contest on a lark. We played rings around the other bands and then the judges chose the band that had three very attractive young women in it. So it goes!! It doesn't matter; We had a lot of fun. The venue's management and staff, the sound crew, the video crew and, especially, the members of other bands were all really, really nice with no exceptions. It was a very fun crowd and a nice scene to fall into. Hopefully we'll play with some of these folks again.3 points

Take the Jack socket out, bend the pins in. 2 screws, 30 second and job done. Better than waiting days, or even weeks for a new bass that might have the same problem.3 points

Or not. Just watch. It's compelling. I suppose this experiment - with a bit if jiggery-pocket - would apply to any stringed instrument that requires pickups.2 points

I’ve been looking at getting a cheap 5er for a wee while. Earlier this week I decided to get a Sterling Stingray 5 as I’d heard a lot of praise for them. It arrived today & I have to say, it sounds pretty good for a cheap bass & looks rather tidy too. Its a bit of a lump compared to my Ibby SR1000 & the neck looks huge. But once I start playing, it feels really nice. Here’s a couple of pics. I’ll let you know more about the sounds once I get more familiar.2 points

Sanding's less likely to damage the lacquer on the headstock sides, although it's more time consuming. Mask off bits you're not sanding so they don't get scratched. Re-lacquering is straightforward using decent rattlecan spray, although again, it's time-consuming - you have to build up lots of thin coats, (I'd say at least 10) allowing drying between each. Then leave it 10 days to a fortnight to cure before using something like T-Cut to flat the lacquer & get a proper gloss. Also bear in mind that the wood under the headstock paint may well be paler than the fretboard if they've cheated a bit with the roasted neck!2 points

I'm not big on the club thing, but I've owned three Ibanez Riadster basses; back in the 80' an original Roadster (happy memories), then another one (awful) and I picked up one as a project (neck, body, bridge, machines) last year. It's had a stripback and respray, new guts. It's wired into the switch and then the volume, so three of the knobs are just there to fill the holes. Sounds fine to my ears.2 points

Yes, it is just a bit of fun and, from a philosophical perspective, it is crucial that some people break the rules as there would not be the need for a rule without any rule breaking otherwise. Breaking the rule is a requirement for the rule to exist in the first place. Think about it.2 points

At the risk of repeating myself (but I'm going to anyway!), every Jazz should have a series/parallel switch... cheap and easy to do, still retains the original sound but unlocks a humbucking sound which is already sitting there waiting to be unleashed with a simple switch mod.2 points

S'funny - both sound to me (apart from Antwan The Swan's attempted singing) like an average, 70's Americana influenced US rock band. Groove and attitude toned right down in favour of MoR type radio play-friendliness! So I'd contend that if you don't like this, you don't like the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. What you actually like is the Sweet Pimento Peppers!2 points

I drove down to Andertons this morning rather than Guitarguitar as they seemed to have more choice. I tried the Charvel first it it was lovely. It sounded good, felt good and looked good. I tried a Sire V7 after that and it was fine but the Charvel had turned my head. I was interested in trying a fender Player Plus but they didn't have any in the little bass room. There were some Dingwalls but my missus would have killed me if I'd spent that much. I'm not a great fan of Ibanez stuff so I didn't bother with the Ibanez 5 string they had. So I bought the Charvel. My first impressions with the world of 5 strings are: I like having 2 octaves right there without having to run down to the dusty end. The B string doesn't sound as good as the other strings, though it doesn't sound bad. I will try some of the ideas re strings that @TheLowDown suggested but I have just brought it home and started noodling, I haven't set it up yet.2 points

Nige is one of my FB friends too. We chat occasionally. I wish I lived nearer That London so I could go see his band. Another legendary name is Major Minor. He wasn't here all that long but his contribution was amazing... his awesome 'Boot Camp' series is one of the best learning resources I have ever seen.2 points

Jazzes are what I play the most , and I find that tweaking the pickups /tone controls just very slightly can change the sound completely , have a good tweak about to find the sweet spot you’re looking for. just as an aside, I recently bought an Ampeg classic preamp pedal and the sound variations is really great2 points

I bought Mother's Milk when it came out, and Fishbone's - Truth and Soul came out around the same time. By comparison, the Chilli Peppers just sounded like a pale imitation, with shouty tuneless vocals over slap lines with nothing of interest to say. Hearing Anthony Kiedis trying to sing after all these years is quite painful.2 points

My big breakthrough with playing fast for extended periods came when I realised that if I turned the amp up I could just brush the strings with my fingertips so I'm hitting the top of the string with much less force than my previous techinque where I was plucking the side of the string. If that makes any sense.2 points
