  1. With tears in my heart I am offering this exceptional bass because I am not able to manage 7 strings properly. I haven't seen any MD7 in the past 20 years here in Europe - and these basses are not offered anymore according to the website of Ken. Even more rare is the 7-string with the 7pc neck option together with the 5A Flamed Maple Top. This particular bass is shown as a Flamed Maple showcase on Kens website since decades. I imported the bass from the original US owner, who kept this bass in the case since he bought it. It is ABSOLUTELY MINT. The action is super low, the sound is incredible deep and crystal clear, yet providing that organic snap exclusive to Smiths . Everything works fine. Asking 7.500 Euro plus shipping from Duesseldorf/Germany. I could be intersted in trades but only at reasonable trade values and against these brands: Ken Smith Elite Fodera Neckthrough Alleva Coppolo F Bass Fenders <1966 + cash either way if necessary. Please do not offer anything else. Thanks.

  3. Nearly 2 years passed without buying a bass yet the last 7 weeks has saw me buy 3 😮 Dipped a toe in the multi scale pond with a RedSub 5'er , ticked the Epiphone Embassy off my list today 🙂 This brings me to this one , bit of a dilemma here. I've a thing for slab body P-basses and planned on building another 3 this year. One of those would steal the ESP Horizon single coil look 😃 I loathe doing binding so was pleasantly surprised to spot this , G4M LA Select Denim burst. https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/LA-Select-Bass-Guitar-by-Gear4music-Denim-Burst/3L4K Note, whoever wrote the sales blurb needs a good hiding ; the world can do without their BS. Did a pre-order last week and after a few days shipment delay it was dropped off on Wednesday🙂 First impressions are it's nicely done and nicely set up 👍Strings need changed , not a fan of roundwounds. £160 well spent 😃 Lighter band is a reflection of the wall units 🙄

  4. So I swapped out the Ampeg PF800 for a Mark Bass Little Marcus 1000. I don't know why I bother moving away from anything other than Mark Bass heads as I always gravitate back towards them.

  6. The email response times from Bass Direct are very good - no fault there at all. I've not been there in person yet, I came close a few months back when @Bunionand I were due to meet there, but then someone decided to have a crash and the M25 got shut down. Luckily Bunion came to the rescue, went to BD, paid for my cab in full, then met me further down the road and we did our deal, so if this was a custom service review for Bunion, he'd get top marks! 😂

  11. Only problem I have with mine is I find myself using it more and more each day, early in the morning and late at night. Very surprised with the rich tone and I've yet to play with the different amp models or effects, just playing along to whatever I have on my ipod, including my band's material, is worth every penny! (Especially since I went with play now, pay later.) Sounds good with my L2000s, my Reverend Thundergun, my Italia Imola, my CV Jazz, my Bacchus Woodline, and my Dean Exotica acoustic basses. What more can anyone ask for?

  14. I have been gassing for a Kiloton Tribute on and off for a few years, I was put off in the past by tales of boat anchor weight and the colours; brown or white, which I wasn't so keen on. Now G&L have started selling them in colours I like. @Jonesy lives in the next borough along from me and he invited me round to his to try out his new G&L SB2 Tribute. Thanks mate👍. I wasn't so keen on the SB2 but I could see that it was well made considering the price and wasn't heavy. @OllyW also confirmed in another G&L thread here that his Kiloton wasn't heavy. So I took a punt and ordered online. I've never had a bass delivered before, I always wanted to try them out first but I didn't want to spend a day (and spend on diesel) driving down to Guilford for a £379 bass. My first impressions are: I love the tones you can get from it. I've been mainly playing it with the toggle switch in the middle, which I believe is single coil (?) with the tone and volume on max. It has the barky sound you would expect from a bass with a single bridge humbucker but the E string has a depth and authority I'm very pleased with. I really love it but its new so I will see how I feel about it in a few weeks but this feels like a keeper.

  15. Helloski I bought a Harley Benton Jazz copy in the Summer of 21 purely out of curiosity. £139???? It's gotta be rubbish hasn't it? Err , no! Natural finish Vintage Series JB75-MN Apart from it's sheer heft, I love it. Love the look and love the way it plays There's one thing that's been bugging me though. Playing... no buzz. hands off strings..... buzz! I bought some 20mm wide copper tape from Ebay and last night I set about shielding the body (no provision for shielding whatsoever on this from the factory) About 2 hours to do it all, link all cavities, cover back of plates, test with a meter and stick back together Now - Perfick! I know i've not re-invented the wheel, but what a satisfying job to carry out. Even made The Apprentice bareable to watch (where do they find those people???? ) So... Happy Glambass That's it really.... Bye! Jon I

  16. Should be in hand in the next two weeks or so, exciting times! I've said it before, but it's worth saying again... Alan at ACG is such an easy guy to deal with. Always responding within a day if not a few hours, always providing updates, very fairly priced within the custom bass market and the builds are just impeccable.

  18. OFFTOPIC: Well. I resolved by selling back my telecaster guitar (one week old, but great reminder that my guitar days are proper gone and I've no business with guitars) and getting a Fender JMJ in Daphne blue that I'll be picking up this Sunday Nitro, Lollipop tuners, clay dots... should gel really nicely with my Limelight P's!

  19. Fake. Hofners that carry the 'Genuine Hofner Made In Germany' transfer always have the traditional teacup control knobs. That's supposed to be a Cavern '62 RI model and Hofner would never turn one of those out with a cheapo Chinese control panel. The fact that someone has applied a fraudulent transfer makes it clear that someone is trying to con someone else. Don't let that person be you.

  25. Must 'fess that I had my head turned by a Cort bass very recently. I'd always been slightly put off by their budget pups, but this A5 Ultra Ash model launched last year sports Fishman Fluence pups, which is getting a lot of Spector owners excited given its recent appearance on higher end Spector bass ranges. Hipshot Ultra Lites help deliver a sub 9lb weight; its tasty laminated neck through design, body thru stringing, and some choice woods all come with a price to match of > £1k, and you sense that Cort have decided to park their tanks firmly on several of their contract manufacturing clients' lawns! 30. I did indeed return it as it was a bit too heavy for me following my back op. Trust me to get the only fat Stingray Special! Such a lovely bass too and absolutely spotless, but I swapped it for a lovely Stingray Special 5 they had in stock. Mark was great and very helpful. The new Ray is strung with flats, so is quite different from my other SR5.

  33. When you have one driver that can only take 50 watts before reaching its mechanical limit and another that can take 500 watts before reaching its mechanical limit you don't need a scientific background to see that it's a bad pairing. It's not about being correct, it's about being logical.

  34. New arrival means I am in a strange position of advertising a bass I don't really want to sell. However, limited space on the rack before I have so start hiding basses in cupboards to avoid divorce, so here we are. The decision of what to go pretty much came down to neck profile and this is just a little chunkier than the rest of the stable. Bought from @Ander87 September last year, original advert below. I'm looking for what I paid, which is £850 including all original parts including Sterling gigbag, black Pickguard, original pickup, original tuner, original preamp. The original advert helpfully lists some prices as to how this figure was determined. Upgrades: * Side dots in white * John East MM SR 3 band, 4 knob * Aguilar MM pickup * Hipshot bass Xtender to get to drop D * Pearloid pickguard I haven't weighed but previous advert states 3.7kg. Overall excellent condition but a few very minor points to note: * Small, minor graze to the top horn which is hard to photograph (I will try again to capture it) * Small ding back of neck just under the "Made in Indonesia" text (see photo) * Bass Xtender has a scratch on clover. 'A' string tuner has minor marks (see photo) * Side dots have some minor marks, noticeably on 3rd and 5th positions (see photo although hard to capture) A lovely bass which I will no doubt regret moving on. Not interested in any trades or offers at the moment, no rush to sell. Preference is collection from Orpington BR6 or can meet up to an hours drive away. Will consider posting but need to source a sturdy external box.

  36. Sweet Moses... That sir, in my humble opinion, is officially THE nicest bass EVER to have been posted on BassChat. I'm probably one of a very small handful of people that play ERBs - I would absolutely love this bass but very sadly I have nothing you'd be interested in as trade bait and if I spent 6.4k on another bass my wife would chop me into a million tiny pieces. Absolutely marvellous...

  38. This bass is a monster. One of the most muscular basses I’ve ever had, the upgrades really beef up that punch and tone. it’s also a classic that will have you covering funk to rock and more without a doubt. if you want to go wilder yet, you can mod the preamp to work as 18v - imagine that… id buy it back would it not be cause I only do jazz necks now. Best, Ander.

  39. Just been checking out the 10 new amps / preamps / and effects on the B6. Zoom have helpfully provided sound samples for all 10. The one that got my attention was the new Super Low Preamp: "A ZOOM original preamp...SpLoPre is equipped with a bass enhancer, which emphasizes the low end of every note. With a Lo EQ and a negative one octave sound, a super low-end tone is produced." Had a listen to the Soundcloud clip for this SPLoPre and damn, it's good! Think punchy, tight, glitch-free octaver overlaying your clean. If you want your bass tone to hit your audience in the gut - this delivers it. Brilliant.

  40. I love my HB JB75. I got mine last year as I couldn't not buy one for £120 or whatever it was. I have had it modded with Lace Sensor Manowar pickups, a babicz bridge, a new wiring loom with a pickup blend rather than VVT, Wilkinson tuners and a white MOP scratchplate for that Geddy look with all black hardware. It's as heavy as an aircraft carrier but an absolute huge amount of tone on tap with the new pups and looks like it's worth thousands not hundreds (well to me anyway). The guys in my band prefer the sound of it to my Sandberg and my G&L!!

  42. Do not be put off by my comments: Y'know what like, shiny new kid on the block, mustapha go, so i went for it, put my Pedalboard up for sale and then quickly withdrew it as I realised I'd have nothing if I couldn't work the Helix magic. I did work the Helix, updated the firmware, joined the forum, looked at synth patches and other wonderous things, started to name my patches so I could swiftly scroll thro and have a patch per tune...... Then it hit me, why, it sounds great, and scrolling thro the patches in the depths gave me a buzz.. But, I play bass, add a bit of distorton, some Sub n Up or Chorus a bit of compression and I'm a happy pedal peddler. So I'm moving it on and sticking with my pedals. Yes I know its cheaper than whats on my pedal board. I am a fickle fecker. Snaps to follow. All the Gubbins here and more. Twill be well packed, none original, box, Mains Adaptor and a USB cable for going online thro your laptop, which I found very simple to use. No, not your laptop mine. It’s as new, bought from here definitely an impulse buy. Thanks for looking https://uk.line6.com/hx-effects/

  43. If I recall correctly, the original controversy centred not so much around removing Faker ads - which BC was happy to do - but around the speed with which the forum was expected to remove them. IIRC, Mr Hall senior wanted stuff taken down the second he notified the forum of a Faker ad. I think our posish was that this wasn't always possible. Mr Hall demurred, BC drew itself up to its full height, toys exited prams and an Iron Curtain fell on the sale of Rics. The problem wasn't Faker ads in themselves; it was RIC's desire they be removed pronto, my way or the highway. It seems a bit odd that after a nasty bust-up which resonated across more than one forum we should contemplate re-introducing Ric sales without formally instating the most stringent filters against Fakers and / or entering into a preliminary friendly dialogue with a widely respected if slightly cranky instrument manufacturer. Some suggest that we should recline on RIC's perceived inertia or that we should just do it and hope for the best. To do so would make the forum a hostage to fortune and would be commercially amateurish. For myself, I don't give a flying f__k whether or not people can sell Rics on BC but if we're going to re-open this historic can of worms we should do so based on more than the hope that it will be alright on the night.

  44. As of 12:35 today I am now an Epiphone Embassy owner 🙂 Sadly shifts spent clambering up and down scaffolding leave me a bit knackered these days so all you folks will get is a photo. Well a photo and a promise , those bloody roundwound strings are coming off ASAP 😄

  45. I don’t have any multi-scale instruments but I think it’s a great idea. Those that I’ve tried required almost no adjustment on my part and felt really natural to play. I’m not so sure I see it as a solution to a problem, per se, as much as I see it as just another approach to design.
