  2. And - other than a bit of invisible fill of one of the knot holes (easy with ebony), the carve is pretty much done on the half fitted so far. It's a very subtle curve but, certainly in real life, transforms it from the 'slab topped' look previously. I'm happy with this. I also drilled the bridge earth wire hole while I could see what I was doing. Oh, and the ebony fretboard blank arrived this morning!

  6. Up for sale is a VERY nice Alembic Europa 5. The previous, and original owner, was a collector and didn't play his collection much. This bass has VERY little sign of use. The bass has a mahogany body (standard) with a quilted maple top (see spec sheet) The neck is an 7 piece multi laminate (upgrade). It has the usual Europa electronics, with volume, pickup balance, filter, and switches for bass and treble boost/cut. The bridge sits in a massive brass block. And she sings! The neck would push the price from Alembic to around $15.000! Comes in original hard bag with papers, and shipping is included. I do apologize for some of the photos. Had some trouble with the light shine back. If you want to talk before buying, I will happily arrange for an online meeting where we can talk and I can play the bass to you.

  10. Mine’s nothing fancy. Two/three simple signal paths. The zoom is my primary sound. Each bank (a-J) has my basic clean sound in position 1 with the relevant EQ, NR compression etc. Then the remaining three are used for other effects. It mostly stays on bank A where chorus, drive and synth are located as my most used sounds. Everything is then duplicated on the next set of user banks (0-9) but with amp sim for headphone practise. Live I mostly just go from the zoom headphone out to the rolls for my IEMs, taking an aux feed from the desk. This way I have a ‘more me’ control. If I’m using my headrush cabs I go to the eq to cut the very low and very highs, to the preamp strip for volume control and minor tone shaping. (None usually) and then the A/B/Y pedal sends the signal to both cabs. (If I daisy chain them, the second one is noticeably quieter, so this way is better) Finally, if I’m in a rehearsal studio using an amp, or recording, then it’s just straight out the zoom’s L mono out. Simple and not fancy, but I like it.

  11. Should be picking up a VM5 as a trade tomorrow. Super excited. Natural body, pau ferro fingerboard, maple neck. From what I've heard these sound immense and is hopefully a step up from my Cort.

  12. Fender Jazz Bass Guitar - Made In Japan - 1993/1994. £650 Shipped Mainland UK Weight is 4.14kg or 9lb 2oz. Serial number dates to 1993/1994. Good overall condition given the age, getting towards 30 years old. Dings and dents are shown in the photographs, has certainly been a players basses, lots of dings and dents on the body. Some tarnishing on the bridge. Hairline surface mark around the G string Tuner - shown in photograph. Looks much better without the pickguard to my eye. Comes with the 1 ply pickguard - has yellowed with age and looks to have had a sticker on for some time that has left the white patch, again as shown in photos. A great players bass - set up with a nice medium action, still loads of life left in the frets.

  13. Have owned this for a few years and loved it. It works as it should with no issues. Capable of producing some beautiful tones. Only selling it to fund a new a amp purchase would prefer collection but happy to find a box and ship it at extra cost.

  15. Up for sale is a gorgeous Alembic Europa 5 fretless. The previous, and original owner, was a collector and didn't play his collection much. This bass has VERY little sign of use, and a store could probably sell it as new. The bass has a mahogany body (standard) with a top that I don't know what is 😬 The neck is an 11 piece multi laminate (upgrade). It has the usual Europa electronics, with volume, pickup balance, filter, and switches for bass and treble boost/cut. The bridge sits in a massive brass block. And she sings! The neck would push the price from Alembic to around $15.000! Comes in original case with some papers, and shipping is included. I do apologize for some of the photos. 26. So while I have a couple of days off work, I really wanted to take a couple of hours to scratch a P Bass itch I have, I don't know where it came from as I have NEVER liked the look or the thought of a P Bass, but I've been bitten recently and the itch is too much, so got to scratch it. I popped into Guitar Guitar in Newcastle and asked them to unfurl their in stock P Basses, line them up and let me try them all in a shootout fashion to see if any of them were a suitable ointment. With that said I was presented with lots of basses highlighting Fenders highly confusing catalogue of models, with a £5000 50's custom shop propping one end and a Squier Classic Vibe at the other, sandwiched in the middle were American Pro's, Vintera's, and Players series'. What a bloody hit and miss selection of basses they are, some were good, some were awful, combinations of good / bad strings, setups and neck feel, the £800 Vintera having a much better setup than the twice the price American Pro for instance... I can quickly talk about that £5k P bass here, and this is for people who have played it... that neck... WTF... it's a tree, U profile? sheesh!... ...So for an hour I went back and forward between 5 or 6 basses until I was playing just one and didn't want to put it down... that bass was... drum roll please... a... Squier FSR (Factory / Fender Special Run?) Late 50's Custom Vibe P Bass (awful mouthful) in a two tone sunburst (never liked this colour) with a anodised gold (never ever would have wanted this) pickguard... so it's a P Bass in a colour combination that I would never have looked twice at, it's got a maple fingerboard which I have forever told myself I don't like, and it's a squier... so why did I buy it? well put simply it's one of the best basses I have ever played, ever, I couldn't put it down, I went back to it after playing US Pros and Mex Vinteras and Players Series' and for me it was just better, the neck was better, the frets were better, the feel was better, it was just better so I left with it and then played it for 2.5 hours straight when I got it home, it's tremendous. £400, was the American Pro 4 times the bass? not a bloody chance. As for P Basses I thought they could only produce a stuffy wooly thumpy jumper sound, but it knocks most basses out the park for bark and bite, volume up, tone down and it just nails everything I want to play. I'm converted! It's a wonderful instrument, and I'm definitely coming round to the two tone sunburst and gold pickguard, it's classy in a "late 50's" kind of way 🤔.

  27. SOLD EMG HZ pickups, EMG B30 preamp (treble/bass stack and mid). Set neck. Includes a Rok Sak gig bag. It had some damage before I owned it - two dents in the top of the neck at fret 2 and 3, a scratch and at the back of the neck, and it looks like it may have been dropped at some point as the top coat has cracks in it coming from the bottom edge, although only visible from certain angles - the wood is fine. All shown in the photos. Usual fine scratches as well for a well played bass. Otherwise plays and sounds great! Oh and the 'inlays' are stickers of course, but completes the Spector look! I'd rather not post but willing to travel a reasonable distance from Worcestershire if someone wants to meet up.

  28. I bought this lovely Fender Musicmaster bass off Greyparrot. The original white finish had been striped back to bare wood and I think some kind of varnish had been applied but I sanded this back again to bare wood and put on 5 coats of Nitrocellulous white undercoat and 6 coats of antique white which has a more yellowish colour. I changed out the pickup as these were originally guitar pickups that Fender used at that time, I ordered a 4 pole replacement from Mojo Pickups which fitted into the cover nicely and has really improved the sound. Original pickup will come with it, everything else is original. In very good shape for a 43 year old bass Nut width 40mm Weight 3.9 Kgs Neck is not too chunky Nice low action and very little fret wear, I'm really pleased with the finished job, the grain of the wood can be seen but hard to photograph but looks nice Sale only as I have made a few acquisitions recently so Im moving it on Price will include delivery to UK addresses

  29. That’s essentially true. Gear is just a part of how you sound, but it all starts with your fingers and if you haven’t got that bit right then it doesn’t matter what gear you have. I would always suggest that people get as good a bass as they can afford that feels right in their hands and is credible for the genres that they are going to play. As far as amps go, a lot of pros use gear like Hartke, nothing esoteric at all, because its reliable / does a job and the company give deals to pros like them. Audiences only care what the band as a whole sounds like (and what instruments look like to an extent). They will compare your band to the one they saw a couple of weeks ago, as well as the major acts they’ve seen over the years. No one comes up to me after a gig to say they liked how I subtly used compression to get the bass to sit in the mix – to them if it sounds good then job done, they don’t care about why it sounds like that. If you’re not playing Muse covers, then its pretty safe to say they don’t care what effects you’re using, just if it sounds right. Having said that, Guy Pratt has just posted pictures of his current live pedalboard on Facebook. I counted 17 pedals and not a MFX among them…!

  30. You may remember this build some months back. I finally got round to lacquering it. I’m super pleased with it. Output is quite low and I’m not sure why, as the preamp was pre-wired. (Noll). just need to set up intonation etc.

  35. Caravan update from last night: turns out the Union Chapel sent out duff info re timing, so thanks to @Mickeyboro for the heads up for actual set times. Excellent show, well surpassing the last time I saw them at the QEH a few years ago. Of course the Pomeroy chap played a blinder, turns out the lad can sing as well! His spot in 9FU was a delight. But it highlights how much I miss Richard Sinclair from the band, so today I'm spinning those awesome pre-Plump albums.

  39. Political comments will be removed, so please refrain from posting any. To be honest, I do think it would be unfair to expect Thomann or any retailer to cover return delivery costs if it's not a faulty item. Can you imagine how much that could cost them? However, surely you could arrange your own courier, they're not insisting on going through them, are they? You can ship to Germany for a lot less than what they're quoting.

  40. Nice. Cort make excellent basses - got a 5 string jazz that I really enjoy. Much advice on here about playing fivers. I did it by starting off playing around the 5th fret. All seemed to fall into place after that (makes playing in F, EB and D an absolute breeze).
