25 years of marriage was worth it after all (I can say that safely as Mrs Strawbs doesn't read these pages ). She surprised me with this lovely shiny silver American Pro II P Bass this morning for our silver anniversary - she's definitely a keeper!8 points

For the rebate that the magnets will fit into, I've cut a couple of pieces of the offcut from the walnut top: Not the prettiest, but it should be functional (and it's hidden ) I have a decision on whether to add a binding to close the gap a touch, but this is basically how the grain will match so I am glad I did it this way: Tomorrow will be the trussrod cover6 points

In an exit interview from an awful job I cited the HR Director continually saying "Pacifically" as I reason I couldn't work there any more. If that's their calibre of board members, I'm out.5 points

Decided to do a little Google of 1983 BB’s (because it’s a solid birth-year bass), and this wonderful BB3000 popped up, was for sale here for a bit! Would like like an ‘83 BB3000 to fill that BB/birth-year hole in my life haha Si4 points

Very poor service, I don't know where they've seen SUBs selling for £800 as even really good ones don't fetch that. The most recent completed one on ebay went for £460 and was in comparable condition if not slightly better.4 points

Maybe they are talking about themselves? I am collectable - as in I am able to collect things. Also, going down this road, anyone who says 'Pacific' instead of 'Specific' should be shot immediately and ground into a fine paste.4 points

The ringleaders knew full well what the consequences would be. The people they convinced to vote for it weren’t so aware though, despite what they say.4 points

And I think the finish for the body and neck may be there. Still got to do the headstock plate but that is a straightforward job. What I'm trying to do is achieve a 'light gloss' with the tru-oil. That is, enough thickness to get the figuring really popping but letting it sink in some of the grain to retain the organic feel of the wood. On the neck, a classic Tru-oil slurry and buff silky satin. Here's where I've got to:4 points

Tbh i might be better off giving the guy a bell tomorrow and actually speak to him, it's easier to fob people off in email !3 points

Well I certainly wasn't wanting to do Arthur Daley buy them and "flip" em type deals I simply wanted a bass of that type, that was within my limited budget, the suggestion of that ad was a good one and thanks for making it 👍 ...I'd much rather keep the bass and If the Bass Direct guy would bounce me £50 back that'd be absolutely fine and fair play, they've said they wrongly described it, their fault etc so I think the above would be reasonable. At last message however they don't seem to be interested in a fair compromise.3 points

Don’t you just love the Basschat threads take a life of their own - this one seems to have become a repository for posting every low ball Stingray price on the net worldwide. On the Bass Direct Sub what do ‘the experts’ here think is the correct rating of condition? And if @Waddo Soqable likes the bass why send it back because of the neck points - I would ask for a reduction - maybe £50. But it’s all not relevant to this thread title anyway?? I am coming away with the impression that there are a number of market trader-esque of used car salesman/ buyers on the forum which will make me think twice about selling anything here!!3 points

How about a 1989 Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 2eq for £850 on Facebook Marketplace? https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/320711739533132/?referral_code=undefined&referral_story_type=general3 points

Yeah, that’s a good idea mentioning BC, ultimately it’s what you’re happy with , as tegs says, the neck is an easy fix , but they should compensate you something for being misleading3 points
-
That’s a shame Waddo, especially when you trust them and your looking forward to getting it, it’s definitely not acceptable, I would want a considerable discount or they can come and get it3 points

That is bollox. Sorry but I woud be agrieved. A cut and paste error!!! Have you phoned them? Let them know this discussion is on Basschat! That is not acceptable to me, makes me very upset.........3 points

It’s not really turning out like they promised is it? It’s like being sold Ursula Andress emerging from the Caribbean, but being delivered Ann Widdecombe emerging from Whitley Bay draped in seaweed.3 points

For levelling, these are the main things I use. First I adjust the truss rod (it works!) to flatten the neck and then use the Crimson rocker (you can use a snipped credit card but I find this durable and better in avoiding mis-readings) at 4 points along each triplet of frets and note the high spots for each of the frets up the board. The levelling beam is just a length of aluminium box section with emery cloth stuck to one side. It acts as my straight edge as well as sanding beam. It's always gratifying when the sanding beam filings correspond with the previously measured high spots! I then use the two diamond sharpening stones for more localised work - if you have one or two particularly high high-spots, you can end up inadvertently sanding frets that don't need it while you are taking down those particular high spots. It's better to file the high spot down and then level out the minor variances. Double checked with the rocker and next job is recrowning the tops of the frets that have been affected.3 points

I was having a good play with the SY-1 last night and I ended up with an accidental creation that @Al Krow suggested I posted here. All the sound scaping and FX in the audio clip were generated with the bass into the SY-1, the bass riff that comes in uses an OC-2 octave.3 points

This article plus stories from one or two people I know in the industry reveal another ‘unforeseen’ issue from Brexit. If firms are offering 20% wage increases just to retain/recruit delivery drivers, it looks like shipping costs (and everything else costs) are going to ‘inflate’….. Anyone get the distinct feeling that those promoting Brexit either didn’t have a clue about economics or anything else?! Whilst Covid issues are also wrapped up in this, the fact that UK’s economy has ‘bounced back significantly slower than any other comparable economy suggests another economic condition other than Covid effect has occurred. https://www.thegrocer.co.uk/the-grocer-blog-daily-bread/the-hgv-driver-shortage-has-hit-catastrophic-levels-industry-needs-government-intervention/656892.article3 points

Some more progress….. needs a little fine tuning but getting there. Used 600 grit sandpaper to get the mat look, 1000 grit to finish once I am fully happy with the guard.3 points

"custom" = (1) I saw this on an expensive ad once, (2) I put a sticker on it "hand made" = I'm sure someone touched it "rare" = I challenge you to find any other Encore guitar or bass anywhere! "first to see will buy" = look, I'm desperate to get rid of this "if you're reading this then you know..." = I don't know "selling for a friend" = not my responsibility if it's stolen "plays like butter" = I saw this on a Fender ad once "plays like I can't believe it's not butter" = Squier "modified" = repaired (badly) "from a smoke and pet free home" = my dogs and cats don't smoke "buckle rash" = I'm careless "never gigged" = I can't get in a band, check how knackered the neck is from me not knowing how to tune "recent set up" = once set up at some point in time. Maybe "collection only from Liverpool" = stolen3 points

I just take the stand that if I’m the high bidder I get it if I’m not I don’t. Not going to offer extra. If some one is looking for a bass at a budget and people work together to find one in that budget I can’t see an issue with that either.2 points

Copied from @Andras Szalay's Talkbass post: Dear Friends, over the past several months we have been hard at work on some fantastic new features for the Future Impact. While there is not much more to do on the FI itself due to lack of further processor resources (although future surprises can still happen), Zsolt Rammer and Peter Kenney made a wonderful work on extending the Editor with amazing new features, and update the documentation. We are proud to present these to you now in v3.60. The features are all contained within a new subsection of the Editor Suite: The Manager This powerful new tool has been created in order to simplify patch management on the FI, which is something that FI users have been requesting for a very long time. It is designed to be easy to use and utilizes an intuitive drag-and-drop interface. With the Manager you can now quickly and easily do the following actions, all directly within the Editor Suite: ● Display and rearrange the patches currently stored on your pedal; ● Add or remove individual patches; ● Rename patches and change their category; ● Create copies of patches; ● Browse, audition and edit patches stored on your computer; ● Browse, audition and download patches uploaded to the FI Online Program Database; ● Upload your own patches to the online database. One small feature has been added to the Editor: it is now possible to set the MIDI channel that the onscreen keyboard outputs on. This means it can still trigger notes when the FI’s MIDI channel is set to something other than ALL or 1. As part of this release, a lot of work has also been put into overhauling the FI’s user manual; as a result, the document is now even clearer and easier to use. The main changes are as follows: ● There is a new section devoted to the new Manager function and the section on the Editor has now been restructured to incorporate this; ● Duplicated and unnecessary technical information has been removed; ● Some parameter descriptions have been rewritten as the previous versions were too unclear - some of these were as a result of user feedback; ● The order of certain sections has been rearranged; ● The quick-start guide has been rewritten to include useful information that was previously located in the main manual; ● There are now dedicated sections covering firmware updates, the instrument modes and resetting parameters; ● All the MIDI functions have been grouped together and discussed in a dedicated section; ● The screenshots of the Flexi pop-up windows and alternative Editor skin have been moved out of the appendix and now appear in the relevant sections of the main text; ● The FAQ section has been updated with further questions we have received; ● The table of contents now has links to items that were previously more difficult to locate. We hope that you’ll find the new features useful and fun to use. Please do read the manual in order to learn how to get the best out of them. Andras Szalay2 points

Indeed !.. In fact I've just pinged them another mail saying I'm not happy at all...oh and btw we've been discussing this on BC for the last hour and the comments are not overly favourable to your firm !2 points

Well said ! They have lost business already just from this thread. Not what I would have expected from BD. Surely there must be someone from BD on this forum? I was looking at a pedal and some strings this month, wont be using BD. Also 9/10 rating mistake!!! Bovine IMO..........complacent. They have offered the refund as per sale of goods act. That is not attention to detail and I actually find it quite arrogant.....2 points

The neck is definitely fixable- one good thing about the budget black finish is that the repairs won’t show once retouched.2 points

Ignorance is no plea of innocence, agree with the post. They should front this properly and offer a refund against what they think is an error............ disappointing.................2 points

Well I thought I was listening to 6 Music via the iPod thingy, and it was playing a series of good solid 6 Music type tracks… in fact I was amused to note that I probably had most of them in my own collection. Even a bit of Les Claypool in there, nice. Why is nobody talking between tracks though? Isn't it usually Shaun Keaveney now? Has someone died? 😮 Obviously, it was actually that the iPod thingy had somehow gone on to a shuffle of my library instead.2 points

There's been quite a lot of chat recently about Courier prices and particularly insurance costs. I recently sent a couple of packages that I wanted insuring and baulked at the couriers prices. Had a hunt around and came up with a dedicated courier insurer, Secursus. The cost for £250 insurance was only £4ish. If there is a problem with items going missing, not that I have had one, they take over and sort it out with the courier. You book the courier first and enter the reference when sorting the insurance. https://www.secursus.com/en-gb/?gclid=CjwKCAjwn6GGBhADEiwAruUcKiUhTq2SehKWvrQQnTvIS2tWn0C7JsuuQxGBayo0YL7mjAoq5JFyyhoCTNMQAvD_BwE2 points

There is, Shipley https://www.shiply.com/ who I have used a lot and with whom I've never had a problem. You have to be on your toes to get the best deal as drivers will bid en-masse, but I've found it a great way of moving things that I either wouldn't trust to Parcelforce, or Parcelforce wouldn't take anyway. A good example is a studio desk I bought from Hampshire, 3.5 x 2.0m, weighed a tonne also, cost around £80 to be delivered and the guys happily bought it through the house and into my garden studio.2 points
