OK - decided. And the first job on the list is radius to 12". After driving myself to the brink of madness in the past trying to radius an ebony fretboard with a radius block alone, I then made my own routing jig and then saw sense and bought a proper one from G&W: It always takes a bit of time getting it all set up, but the rout job itself took less than 20mins to this level: Ready for the final 10mins sanding off of the tooling marks with the almost-redundant radius block. I have a terrible memory, but I always remember to keep the sanding dust!! : Now, I'm one of those people where, if I drop a piece of toast it always lands butter-side down. Except when I try to demonstrate that certainty to anyone, when it lands, of course, butter-side up. So imagine my disbelief when this natural aberration that was lurking under the surface: ...turned out to be 3mm BEHIND where I will be cutting at the end of the fretboard Well, if that was karma, I clearly must have done at least one unbelievably good thing in the recent past!5 points

I think they’re D’addario chromes. Mine have blue silks, and only D’addario make strings with different coloured ball ends.4 points

I don’t care if it’s a legit 62 p bass for £4 - the “@@@ wow” means I would never go near it 😂4 points

Not really a build but definitely my most adventurous mod to date. Just got the wiring to do now. Better not drink too much tonight!3 points

As per title, new in Nov 2019, this bass has never left the house. Still has plastic in the scratchplate. On sale for £1649 at the time. Plenty of info on t'interweb, but they are based on the American Pro Series, a limited run of only 100 basses for Europe, in 2019. P/J with unusual stack knobs, V/T for each pick up. Passive bass. Roasted fretboard & neck (although bit more coloured with Bisto than roasted IMO). 8lb 14oz, original case inc. Why? It took me a long time to figure out why I didn't get on with Laklands. Finally worked out it was the narrow tall frets. This has those (although the neck is super!) TRADES see thoughts below, but I'd prefer a sale. Excellent Precision say around 2008, with original case + £400 to me Excellent Player Series Precision with gigbag + £750 to me Courier, UK only, YOU would need to organise & pay for it, telling me when collection day is. FEEDBACK linked below. Keep safe, cheers, Karl.3 points

There are a lot of alternatives these days, check out the Kala U Bass and its many cheaper clones, just search for ‘ukulele bass’. A few people make solid body versions too.3 points

Things I have discovered during this period of isolation. 1: The sleep function of the G75 really works. Put the guitar down while going to the loo and the batteries cease to drain until you pick it up again. 2: Lloytron recheargable batteries bought from Proper Job run out when the remaining battery time on the G75 shows 3 hours and 30 minutes. 3: A fully charged set of Lidl 'Tronic' recheargables shows 6 hours 45 minutes when inserted. 4: I realise 2 and 3 above are pretty useless pieces of information when trying to determine the playing time privided by either Lloytron or Tronic. 5: Even the most disgusting cough sweets contain sugar. 6: 5 isn't more than tenuously connected with music but is important to me. 7: Plectrum delivery time, even while using Amazon Prime, is entirely unpredictable. 8: I have too much bass gear.2 points

It was after going to the shop to choose these for a custom build, just before the shop had to close for the virus. Whether this build will now happen, and if so, when, remains to be seen! 😢2 points

Sorry, I forgot that. Here are some quick tasters, I'll try to take some better pics tomorrow when the light is better. I'll also give my comments on it so far, and I'll explain why this is a 4 string and I'm selling a 5 string (it's complicated). Seems I should post it in the Bass Guitars forum anyway.2 points

D'Addario make Fender strings, probably why both brands have coloured ball ends. Maybe they make Roto's as well?!?2 points

I'd say the Wilkinson Alnico pickup you have wired direct to the jack, with Markley Blue Steel strings as @kodiakblair says, run through a sansamp with the high mids boosted will get you the Bello sound. Wiring the pickup direct to jack will increase the output and increase the high end. Playing with a heavy (1mm) pick will also help achieve the sound. 😁2 points

I am being really good and not buying any more basses at the moment, it is not because what I want isn't currently on sale anywhere in the internet world at the moment, other than Japan and their prices are ridiculous .....obviously I haven't been looking2 points

well only 4 weeks ago I received my lovely D roc,I am so impressed with it I decided to sell my Rickenbacker & buy myself a Dingwall Combustion, which has just arrived at work. Fortunately it is very quiet so I've had time to have a little play & adjust the setup. My D roc came setup perfectly but I had to tweak this a fair bit to make it play nicely. One odd thing though, there are no batteries in the battery compartment ! Is this normal ? Every active bass I have bought in the past came with batteries installed.2 points

I’ve been busy with my Kate Bush tribute band (Moments Of Pleasure) over the last few months although Coronavirus has stopped all the shows we had planned at the moment ☹️ This week we managed to record a “remote” version of Army Dreamers - let me know what you think.2 points

Hey all I have a really gorgeous American Deluxe Jazz from 2013 ash/maple with original case and candy... It is in superb condition, no buckle rash/ stunning grain and plays beautifully. The Electronic’s are Really quiet and it sounds killer. Some of these basses came out of the factory with nasty buzzing noises from the electronics, this bass does not. Weight is 3.8kg Am looking to trade for Fender American Original/Professional Precision or Jazz, ideally a 60’s model. Must be in good condition and with case! Obviously a cash sale is good to and I can courier to Uk and Europe no problem. may be persuaded by a BB2024 or a 2 band Stingray in good condition but do prefer passive basses... Am in no desperate hurry to move this bass on as it plays and sounds really great, am happy to wait for the right bass to come along. Am based in Leicester Thanks for looking1 point

The sale fell through unfortunately ☹️ So back up,at a come and buy my price of £950 ono price, which for this quality is a an out and out bargain!!!😀 please message with any questions..Thanks Hi Folks.Having a re-edit on this to hopefully stir up some interest..plus a few corrections..sorry! This is a CB Ball lined fretless bass dating back to 2009. www.cbbasses.com Purchased from www.thelowend.net..you can find more info in Thier sold bass thread under CB basses. It is a 32 inch (medium scale) Ebony nut 1.5 inch.Width at 24th position 2.625 inch and corrected weight 8.2 lbs not as previously stated 12lbs!!!! It features a beautiful Blood wood top and headstock veneer..2 piece mahogany core..stunning walnut back..slim and fast maple and wenge neck..beautiful accent veneers at neck (see photos) and a lined ebony fretless board..in excellent condition..position dots are on the notes....Finished in a tung oil/resin.. It has a hipshot bridge and ultralight tuners..Nordstrand SE's pickups encased in ebony pick up covers..lovely touch this.A removable ebony ramp between pickups..ebony control knobs are volume/pan/tone passive.. For disclosure..the neck had a small shrinkage split by the E string near the nut, that was professionally repaired by Jon Shuker..no movement whatsoever in 7 years..Jon said very common on ebony and maple necks..Was not a problem then and now, and does not affect the integrity of this wonderful bass..There are a few light marks on the upper edge (see photo) but overall in excellent condition... I am selling because This beautiful unique bass needs played..I look at it,and admire it..but in reality I am not a fretless player!! This will make someone very happy I have no doubt..The medium scale makes it a breeze for playing..Oh yes and sounds amazing too!! Can courier.. In terms of build quality. This is comparable to my Sei Flamboyant bass, and that is saying a lot! Wonderful luthier skills in this beauty!!! No trades please.. but open to offers (money) lol.You never know..👊😀1 point

Think @Chimike had one for sale & I wanted it but no courier. He's just about in a different time zone to me even before the lockdown threw another spanner in the works.1 point

Shouldn't make a difference as the connection is only to the pad on the underside which hasn't lifted.1 point

01 Ever played a gig sitting down? Yes, after a knee operation some years back. 02 Ever gigged on a different instrument? I did a few gigs doing just BVs and percussion after a carpal tunnel op. It was quite nice being able to concentrate on the singing. 03 Ever shared a stage with a musical hero of yours? No, alas. 04 Any fan ever had a tatoo of your band's logo? Nope. Seen people wearing the t shirt though. 05 Ever signed an autograph in a dressing room? Who would want it? 06 Ever cried on stage? No. Came close though, on the night my dad died. 07 Ever worn a hat on stage? Yes, every gig. 08 Ever gigged with a band you hadn't met before the gig? No, and I wouldn't like to. I hate being underprepared. 09 Ever been in a relationship with a fellow band member? No and I wouldn't want to. Absolute minefield. 10 Ever played in different bands on the same day? Yes, and on the same bill too. 11 Ever had anything thrown at you while playing? Spears, grenades, angry honey badgers. No knickers yet though. 12 Ever crashed on the way to the gig? No. Wrote my car off en route to a rehearsal once though. 13 Ever left a band over the choice of set list? No. 14 Ever slept in the venue despite it not being a hotel? No. 15 Ever been supported by a band clearly better than you? Thankfully, no. 16 Ever played a gig suffering from some debilitating medical condition? Yes, see 1 and 2 above. 17 Ever been in a band where the guitarist was your favourite bandmate? Yes, twice. A blues rock trio in Swindon, and also a fusion trio with @Witters. 18 Ever played in the grounds of a stately home? Don't think so. 19 Ever injured yourself on stage? Like many others, only my pride. 20 Ever been told that your bass isn't loud enough? Yes. What a glorious day that was.1 point

I can elaborate / qualify one answer, last band I was in we got contacted on FB by Nutjob from the US saying we had used his band name, he had it copyrighted (not possible) and that he even had a tattoo of it. So not really a fan. Looking on FB he clearly wasn't even in a band. I sent him a ridiculous long Joe Lycett style reply about copyright law etc just for fun, and he got even nastier after that. Apparently we'll never gig in the US again. We were playing small venues in West Yorkshire so weren't all that worried. For upcoming projects I'll be more careful checking that there aren't any slightly unhinged Americans who think it's theirs, even though they've never used it for anything.1 point
