OK - decided. And the first job on the list is radius to 12". After driving myself to the brink of madness in the past trying to radius an ebony fretboard with a radius block alone, I then made my own routing jig and then saw sense and bought a proper one from G&W: It always takes a bit of time getting it all set up, but the rout job itself took less than 20mins to this level: Ready for the final 10mins sanding off of the tooling marks with the almost-redundant radius block. I have a terrible memory, but I always remember to keep the sanding dust!! : Now, I'm one of those people where, if I drop a piece of toast it always lands butter-side down. Except when I try to demonstrate that certainty to anyone, when it lands, of course, butter-side up. So imagine my disbelief when this natural aberration that was lurking under the surface: ...turned out to be 3mm BEHIND where I will be cutting at the end of the fretboard Well, if that was karma, I clearly must have done at least one unbelievably good thing in the recent past!5 points

I think they’re D’addario chromes. Mine have blue silks, and only D’addario make strings with different coloured ball ends.4 points

I don’t care if it’s a legit 62 p bass for £4 - the “@@@ wow” means I would never go near it 😂4 points

As per title, new in Nov 2019, this bass has never left the house. Still has plastic in the scratchplate. On sale for £1649 at the time. Plenty of info on t'interweb, but they are based on the American Pro Series, a limited run of only 100 basses for Europe, in 2019. P/J with unusual stack knobs, V/T for each pick up. Passive bass. Roasted fretboard & neck (although bit more coloured with Bisto than roasted IMO). 8lb 14oz, original case inc. Why? It took me a long time to figure out why I didn't get on with Laklands. Finally worked out it was the narrow tall frets. This has those (although the neck is super!) TRADES see thoughts below, but I'd prefer a sale. Excellent Precision say around 2008, with original case + £400 to me Excellent Player Series Precision with gigbag + £750 to me Courier, UK only, YOU would need to organise & pay for it, telling me when collection day is. FEEDBACK linked below. Keep safe, cheers, Karl.3 points

There are a lot of alternatives these days, check out the Kala U Bass and its many cheaper clones, just search for ‘ukulele bass’. A few people make solid body versions too.3 points

Things I have discovered during this period of isolation. 1: The sleep function of the G75 really works. Put the guitar down while going to the loo and the batteries cease to drain until you pick it up again. 2: Lloytron recheargable batteries bought from Proper Job run out when the remaining battery time on the G75 shows 3 hours and 30 minutes. 3: A fully charged set of Lidl 'Tronic' recheargables shows 6 hours 45 minutes when inserted. 4: I realise 2 and 3 above are pretty useless pieces of information when trying to determine the playing time privided by either Lloytron or Tronic. 5: Even the most disgusting cough sweets contain sugar. 6: 5 isn't more than tenuously connected with music but is important to me. 7: Plectrum delivery time, even while using Amazon Prime, is entirely unpredictable. 8: I have too much bass gear.2 points

It was after going to the shop to choose these for a custom build, just before the shop had to close for the virus. Whether this build will now happen, and if so, when, remains to be seen! 😢2 points

Sorry, I forgot that. Here are some quick tasters, I'll try to take some better pics tomorrow when the light is better. I'll also give my comments on it so far, and I'll explain why this is a 4 string and I'm selling a 5 string (it's complicated). Seems I should post it in the Bass Guitars forum anyway.2 points

D'Addario make Fender strings, probably why both brands have coloured ball ends. Maybe they make Roto's as well?!?2 points

I'd say the Wilkinson Alnico pickup you have wired direct to the jack, with Markley Blue Steel strings as @kodiakblair says, run through a sansamp with the high mids boosted will get you the Bello sound. Wiring the pickup direct to jack will increase the output and increase the high end. Playing with a heavy (1mm) pick will also help achieve the sound. 😁2 points

I am being really good and not buying any more basses at the moment, it is not because what I want isn't currently on sale anywhere in the internet world at the moment, other than Japan and their prices are ridiculous .....obviously I haven't been looking2 points

well only 4 weeks ago I received my lovely D roc,I am so impressed with it I decided to sell my Rickenbacker & buy myself a Dingwall Combustion, which has just arrived at work. Fortunately it is very quiet so I've had time to have a little play & adjust the setup. My D roc came setup perfectly but I had to tweak this a fair bit to make it play nicely. One odd thing though, there are no batteries in the battery compartment ! Is this normal ? Every active bass I have bought in the past came with batteries installed.2 points

I’ve been busy with my Kate Bush tribute band (Moments Of Pleasure) over the last few months although Coronavirus has stopped all the shows we had planned at the moment ☹️ This week we managed to record a “remote” version of Army Dreamers - let me know what you think.2 points

Here are my nyckelharpas. The acoustic one was built by Kjell Lundvall in 2015, and the solid body was by Olla Plahn, 2019, and features a piezo pickup under the bridge and a built-in preamp. The "band" pickup on the Lundvall harpa is used for live performances - for recording I find a ribbon mic gives the best results - an example can be heard here:1 point

It’s a bloody good power amp module (Same as in my RM800) but I’d say it was closer to a 4/500W class AB head in terms of the “heft” etc. It doesn’t run out of puff and start squashing the notes in a nasty way like some class D modules, certainly not at any volume level I’ve needed from it1 point

I made a project of my home lighting switching all lamps tp LED. In what we call the studio, my Baby Grand and rehearsal spot are in that room, the difference from incandescent is astounding. We only have one non LED lamp now and only 'cos the touch dimmer will not work properly with LED lamps. Y'know Andy I truly believe that you have done just about everything!!! LOL1 point

Aha! What @ped referred to as 'digital noise behind the effect' which is also there on the current generation Zoom pedals (e.g. my Zoom B1X-4) and more pronounced with some of the patches (and particularly noticeable if there are high treble settings). I've concluded that this is a function of the cheaper / lower processing power on older multifx or their budget modern day counterparts, as is the quality of the sims.; the higher-end models with their more powerful chipset can be in a different league e.g. the Zoom struggles with pitch shifting, Helix handles it with aplomb.1 point

Oh blimey yeah that doesn't sound like a good look!... Ah apologies to be spreading my pickiness haha!! I think really I just prefer the silver simplicity on non-silk strings, but would settle for silk as long as they weren't red or green (as they'd just clash with my bass too much). More interested in quality of the strings, of course1 point

Not at all haha! 😂 @Reggaebass @jrixn1 What brands of flats do you guys go for? I can't even remember what brand my current set are.1 point

I made the wings using alder, black veneer and cottonwood burl top. I have to rout the battery boxes. What you see here are cavities for the controls, and the headphone amp.1 point

The triac and inverse parallel dimmers are based on reverse phase control of the 60Hz (or 50Hz for many of you) AC waveform. There is a PWM version that modulates the AC waveform by slicing up the waveform into tiny slices and eliminating slices throughout the waveform. There's also a type that converts the AC to DC and then PWM modulates this DC, either into an AC waveform or into a DC equivalent signal. Different companies have different ways of doing it (and different patents). LED lamps are usually dimmed by converting the AC to DC, then PWM'ing the DC voltage based on the RMS current rather than on the voltage since LED brightness is proportional to current through the device and independent of voltage across the device.1 point

Aria Pro II SB1000 for sale. 1983, oak finish and in nice condition. When I bought this bass a few years ago it’s preamp and wiring loom had been stripped out. I bought a replacement preamp from Carl Maltby, and a Rautia replica pickup. (The bass has its original pickup but has never been tested. As I was about to spend a load restoring the bass I just didn’t want to take a chance on it). The preamp, Rautia pickup and new wiring was installed by Feline Guitars (Croydon) with guidance from Carl Maltby. Feline Guitars also polished and levelled the frets - and it all turned out very well. Everything else on the bass is original and as you’d expect. The original pickup will be included in the sale. It comes in a Warwick Rockbass gigbag. Collection preferred. Selling as I need to cull the herd and I can’t find playing opportunities for two SBs!1 point
