Should have gone to Specsavers! I had everything immediately to hand - Supercompact, tape measure... but not my glasses. That'll teach me3 points

Read the full story and the organisers did a lot, sorted the main event, free upgrade, offer of free carer tickets, access to private toilet facilities etc. As a passionate supporter of disability rights I find this a bit frustrating. Unless there is something being missed by all the media, which is possible, then it seems to be someone looking for an angle to moan at. I truly hope that isn’t the case as it’s been a hard slog to get rights for the disabled and it only takes a few freeloading idiots to spoil it for everyone.2 points

Available for sale is my Canadian Dingwall ABZ 4 string in purple. It's a passive bass but with exceptional control via the four-position pickup selector knob which goes from P-like to J-like including the typical Dingwall setting inbetween. Body is lightweight Ash and neck is maple with a Wenge fingerboard. Also features locking jack. Very easy to play and has great clarity due to the fanned frets. Comes with good quality Dingwall gigbag.1 point

I remember it was said on an Irish radio station (probably RTE2 fm) that he had become a heterosexual a few years back. Not sure if there was any substance to that. It just sounded very odd to me at the time. I liked Motorway and War Baby. He had a song out in the last year or so that was quite haunting but not enough for me to remember the title, sorry. He DJs on 6music on Sundays at 6pm if anyone's interested.1 point

Depends what the lines are filled with. With the one I did I was able to dig the lines out with this little number https://tonetechluthiersupplies.co.uk/fret-slot-cleaning-saw-double.html?SID=52e8937ca019a00ca2a2d3db7cf309f0. Not Cheap but it made sorting the bound fingerboard easy. It is possible to wander off line at the start. I made an aluminium edge to clamp against the fingerboard and act as a guide. The other useful tactic was filling the slots with ptfe sheet and then filling any missing fingerboard tear outs / divots with superglue and wood dust. A magnifying glass really helps with this. http://www.stewmac.com/How-To/Online_Resources/Learn_About_Repair_Tools_and_Repair_Techniques/Cleaning_up_after_sloppy_fretwork_fixing_chips_in_the_fingerboard.html1 point

+1 for these. We've actually been using them as our PA, rather than just as monitors, for 3 years now (for vocals, acoustic guitar and sax) and at 400W a piece, they can easily cope with up to medium sized venues. Me and the lead guitarist take our own amps and pretty much job done!1 point

Quite a few used monitor wedges on the 'Bay at the moment. Some look quite decent.1 point

So funny you mention this, I remember going to a big heavy rock/metal festival years ago and all of the bands looked as mean and scary as possible. My friend and I both had an ongoing joke the whole weekend, that most of the bands singers were really softly spoken and polite over the microphone and then launched into super aggressive almost inaudible screaming shouting vocals. "Hi everybody, we are Satans Armpit from California, we are so blessed to be here and see you you all, thanks for the support. This next songs is called BLOOD GOBLIN DEATH MURDER" followed by screaming for 3 minutes. I am guilty that I have let the personalities of musicians and bands influence me to an extent. I always though James Blunt was incredibly funny and self deprecating, and played up his soft image. I have no doubt he is more rock and roll behind closed doors than most bands, and a lot tougher than anyone will ever realise. I have recently found a new level of respect for Noel Gallagher too, he is very funny and a proper wind up merchant, and its made me a little more tolerant of Oasis and his solo stuff. I know there are more examples but my mind is not functioning well today. My friend sent me a link to a band the other day and I mocked him quite a lot, because he said "great band, really good songs, tight as hell and they are really nice boys". I love the fact that we have both got to an age, where being 'Nice Boys' is something you should mention about a band.1 point

Just had the jack socket replaced, truss rod nut freed off and adjusted and the hole in the headstock opened out slightly for better access to it plus a set up /check over by Graham Wheeler on my G&L L2000. Great bloke, friendly and helpful. great service - less than a week with the weekend in the middle so only a few days really. Everything he did looks great and it plays really well. He's listed as Worthing, but he's actually in Washington, West Sussex which is on the A24 half way between Horsham and Worthing.1 point

Not to be picky, but actually I believe there is. Don't charges (and convictions where appropriate) give some indication of the child's age?1 point

I got some RCF 310As a little while back, and they are fantastic. You just missed out on a great deal on them - Andertons had them at £278 just after the new year - now back to £328.1 point

@Marc S This is basically the Normon Watt Roy bass, but fretless @SpondonBassed The ashtray pickup cover actually comes fitted over the neck pickup, I’ve removed it though. And Finn (my son) can be thanked for the rug, I actually like it for bass pics haha. Si1 point

I always thought that Morrisey's twuntishness put me off liking all bar a few tracks by The Smiths. As the years have passed, I've realised that I only actually like five songs by The Smiths, Morrisey being a massive cnut had nothing to do with it.1 point

I don't like or play fivers, but if i did, i would pick one where all 5 string are actually over the fretboard What an abortion.1 point

I had the honour of releasing a compilation of his early work for a record company I worked for many years back, and got to meet him at the launch of the London concert celebrating the 1st anniversary of Nelson Mandela's release. The launch was held in South Africa House on Trafalgar Square, for years the target of anti apartheid protest. When the launch came to an end, Masekela along with Miriam Makeba got to his feet, and they performed an impromptu Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika. It was the most moving musical experience of my life.1 point

I agree with all the James Blunt love on here! Another chap that springs to mind is Dean Friedman. I was dragged by some friends to see him at the Edinburgh festival in 2011. I'd never thought much about his songs, but he turned out to be an excellent musician and seemed to be a really nice guy. I found myself enjoying his hits (in particular 'Lydia') and some of his new stuff, a lot of which is very humourous. I even bought his CD, which he signed for me. (Not that I've played it much since, I have to admit!)1 point

I decided that I'd craze the finish on the body - to give a lightly aged look, but still keep it looking shiny for now. (The bass will get any knocks and wear from gigging and playing over the coming years). Anyhow, when I've cracked the lacquer in the past, it's been on guitar bodies - which I've just stuck in my freezer overnight. The size of a bass body doesn't fit into the compartments of my home freezer, so I had to think of another method of crazing the lacquer. By chance, I'd met a plumber who was talking about freeing stuck pipe connections. He said, "when that happens, you just spray one part with Crack It spray. That instantly freezes the part and breaks the stuck connection". It turns out that this plumbers aerosol reduces the surface to minus 45 degrees. I got a can myself from a local Toolstation. All you have to do is get the lacquer warm, then simply spray the aerosol on the surface. You can sometimes hear the lacquer crack. Anyhow, the end result is a nice crazed lacquer. As the plumbers spray has an oil in it, you need to clean the surface afterwards using a rubbing compound (I used Mer Car Polish). I've heard that some folk use aerosols of compressed air to reduce the temp. I might try that on my next build? Here are some pics of some of the crazing (after crazing the lacquer, I wiped the body surface with water based Dark Oak stain to emulate years old grime in the cracks).1 point
Don't suppose you're any good at soldering are you mate? I'm in Ashbourne and really need my 1977 bass looking at. I had EMG's in it and they've gone kaput. Want to put the original pickups back in but I've misplaced my soldering iron during my recent move /:
I am pretty useful with a soldering iron and happy to have a look for you. When do you need it doing? My best soldering iron is at work at the mo and I am off for a week but my other one should be fine for doing that anyway. If you did want to have a go yourself you can pick up reasonable soldering irons for around £10 these days.1 point
