1. Should have gone to Specsavers! I had everything immediately to hand - Supercompact, tape measure... but not my glasses. That'll teach me

 2. I'd say you don't need this bass then.

 3. Read the full story and the organisers did a lot, sorted the main event, free upgrade, offer of free carer tickets, access to private toilet facilities etc. As a passionate supporter of disability rights I find this a bit frustrating. Unless there is something being missed by all the media, which is possible, then it seems to be someone looking for an angle to moan at. I truly hope that isn’t the case as it’s been a hard slog to get rights for the disabled and it only takes a few freeloading idiots to spoil it for everyone.

 4. I have for sale my Fender USA Standard Precision from 1984. The Bass is all-original apart from a sprague orange drop capacitor being fitted. The original capacitor is included. The bass is almost unmarked apart from a very small mark in the lacquer on the top horn which I have tried to photograph next to a one pence coin. This mark has been on the bass since I got it about 8 years ago and has not got any worse. The condition is superb considering this is a 34 year old bass. The bass will come in a non-original Fender G&G Deluxe Brown Tolex Case. The bass is currently strung with Thomastik Flatwounds. I had to think twice about putting this bass up for sale as I have grown rather fond of it but I have one too many precisions so a choice had to be made. The asking price of £1200 includes delivery to the UK. I am not looking to trade. It is sale only I’m afraid.

 6. Too right! I do have one Jazz bass I rarely play, but it's tempting!

 9. I was in a band that switched to the Behringer version of these on top of mic stands. There were 2 main benefits: 1. Getting them closer to your ears mean they don't need to be so loud reducing overall stage volume. 2. You get loads of floor space back. They are both off the floor and tiny. In my view, spot monitors are the best solution if you don't want to go with IEM.

 10. D'addario Super Long Scale should fit. I was using them on a Dingwall and it was only the B at 37 inches that was a bit hit and miss as to whether the main speaking length was going to get over the nut and that was only by a mm or 2. The E was 36.25 and always fit.

 11. Depends what the lines are filled with. With the one I did I was able to dig the lines out with this little number https://tonetechluthiersupplies.co.uk/fret-slot-cleaning-saw-double.html?SID=52e8937ca019a00ca2a2d3db7cf309f0. Not Cheap but it made sorting the bound fingerboard easy. It is possible to wander off line at the start. I made an aluminium edge to clamp against the fingerboard and act as a guide. The other useful tactic was filling the slots with ptfe sheet and then filling any missing fingerboard tear outs / divots with superglue and wood dust. A magnifying glass really helps with this. http://www.stewmac.com/How-To/Online_Resources/Learn_About_Repair_Tools_and_Repair_Techniques/Cleaning_up_after_sloppy_fretwork_fixing_chips_in_the_fingerboard.html

 12. Well, they are a business, but I think it's a response to customer demand. Most people can play a guitar and its strings are closer together, so shouldn't be a problem for a bass (unless you slap & pop, but that's not really what Ric cater for). Incidentally, I've got a SUB 5 and its neck is only 1mm wider at the nut than my 4003.

 13. +1 for these. We've actually been using them as our PA, rather than just as monitors, for 3 years now (for vocals, acoustic guitar and sax) and at 400W a piece, they can easily cope with up to medium sized venues. Me and the lead guitarist take our own amps and pretty much job done!

 14. It does look tiny, but the string isn't really pulling that far to the side. This one has held up for the past 27 years.

 15. Measuring from a saddle is a crap idea. Could be massively out depending on string choice. Measure from the nut or the 12th fret.

 16. Just saw all the related ads - if I had a hangar and £3.5k, I’d just have the lot shipped north. A seller of exquisite taste and one that evidently cares for his gear extremely well! Bump...this bass has me all excited

 18. I always thought that Morrisey's twuntishness put me off liking all bar a few tracks by The Smiths. As the years have passed, I've realised that I only actually like five songs by The Smiths, Morrisey being a massive cnut had nothing to do with it.

 21. It does make a difference (to me) what type of person they are. I haven't read the Gary Glitter thread but my opinion of Metallica ( the band members) plummeted after watching Some Kind of Monster.

 37. Based on the South Coast too at Poole Dorset. Often in Bournemouth, Southampton, Romsey and Winchester areas. Will do basic setup and any electrics/electronics. Including action, intonation, pickup replacement, preamp design and/or installation, pots, caps Jack sockets and general wiring. Custom instrument cables and speaker/speakon leads. Still learning fretwork and finishing so can't do that at the moment.

 38.
Hmm, bit of a gap between me and the next person - no other helpful BCers in Scotland?
I'm further south than you (7 miles!!) so hopefully that fills the gap a little. I've done bass set-ups, pickup and preamp changes, wiring repairs and changes such as adding coil split switching, shielding, battery box routing (eek!) etc. I will try and help fellow chatters where I can.

 39. Just south of Oxford, I can do set-ups and soldering, surface-mount component rework, fret levelling. I don't charge for work, as it's been mostly for friends and bc'ers. I'm Jules, btw.

 40. Just north of Derby. I can help out with most things except spray jobs. Do stuff mainly as a hobby so for fellow BCers, happy to do small jobs for free or just the cost of the bits, low rates for medium jobs and a mere kings ransom for the bigger ones
