Should have gone to Specsavers! I had everything immediately to hand - Supercompact, tape measure... but not my glasses. That'll teach me3 points

Read the full story and the organisers did a lot, sorted the main event, free upgrade, offer of free carer tickets, access to private toilet facilities etc. As a passionate supporter of disability rights I find this a bit frustrating. Unless there is something being missed by all the media, which is possible, then it seems to be someone looking for an angle to moan at. I truly hope that isn’t the case as it’s been a hard slog to get rights for the disabled and it only takes a few freeloading idiots to spoil it for everyone.2 points

NOW SOLD. This is a chance to purchase a really gorgeous Spector that is as new as acquiring it just before Christmas and it being a case queen since - in other words - excellent condition. I saw an Andertons video and was knocked out by how beautiful this particular bass looked, made an enquiry and lo and behold the one in their warehouse was the exact same one with the same lovely quilt(?) top. It plays like butter with a lovely buzz-free low action. Comes with a quality Andertons gigbag which just like the bass, hasn't left the house as I've been using my passive basses when playing out - and I've decided passive is where I'm going to stay. Open to close offers. Possible trades considered - Aguilar AG700. Bass is located in Doncaster. Can courier no problem.1 point

I have for sale my Fender USA Standard Precision from 1984. The Bass is all-original apart from a sprague orange drop capacitor being fitted. The original capacitor is included. The bass is almost unmarked apart from a very small mark in the lacquer on the top horn which I have tried to photograph next to a one pence coin. This mark has been on the bass since I got it about 8 years ago and has not got any worse. The condition is superb considering this is a 34 year old bass. The bass will come in a non-original Fender G&G Deluxe Brown Tolex Case. The bass is currently strung with Thomastik Flatwounds. I had to think twice about putting this bass up for sale as I have grown rather fond of it but I have one too many precisions so a choice had to be made. The asking price of £1200 includes delivery to the UK. I am not looking to trade. It is sale only I’m afraid.1 point

This is crazy - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-42776454. Leaving aside the obvious jokes about the fact that you would be better off not being able to hear what was happening at a Little Mix gig, how would having someone signing the banal lyrics of typical chart tripe increase anyone's enjoyment (can you even sign drivel such as "ooh yeah baby", etc?) when they couldn't hear the actual music? Note that I am not arguing against providing signing/assistance for hearing impaired people in as many situations as is practical or possible. However, music (I use the term loosely in this case) requires the ability to hear in some way. The lyrics are only a part of it. I know it's tough that those who cannot hear are unlikely to be able to enjoy music fully, but that's just the way life is. Discuss.1 point

Bingo ! Great bit of kit, and weighs the same as my slippers https://www.richtonemusic.co.uk/product/alto_tourmax_sxm112a/?gclid=Cj0KCQiA-qDTBRD-ARIsAJ_10yJQ74T2PTKQSLYR4FU3tjtgD0rOEVVw_QTPqXbd91hYInkd0nD4uh0aAjNBEALw_wcB1 point

Thos machine heads look like typical unbranded far-eastern Schaller/Gotoh copies with tulip heads. You should be able find something suitable either from one of the guitar parts web sites or eBay. As for strings you can't go far wrong with a D'Addario XL .010 - .046 set for standard light gauge.1 point

Seems to be. I did a fast and nasty Photoshop overlay using MM images. I lined the neck heel and resized 4H and 4HH images until the bridges and saddles were the same size/location. Bearing in mind that production will inevitably change over the years (even the off millimetre or the more extreme 1970s Fender Jazz bridge pickup movement), I feel pretty confident in saying the bridge pickup is in the same location irrespective of it being a 4H or a 4HH.1 point

D'addario Super Long Scale should fit. I was using them on a Dingwall and it was only the B at 37 inches that was a bit hit and miss as to whether the main speaking length was going to get over the nut and that was only by a mm or 2. The E was 36.25 and always fit.1 point
-
Overwater make 36" scale strings - that's what I used on my 36" scale Overwater after I stopped using Newtone strings. IMO the Newtones were better, but it was easier to order the Overwater strings, and I didn't have to have them made specially to order.1 point

Not used rotos for some time but I reckon so... I've been using a custom set of newtone's on my Dingwall since last year as I find the stock sets too heavy, and I find them excellent quality. Still got a set on that I fitted around September last year, and they still have plenty of life left in them. I also like the fact that they do custom sets. The only down side is that you may have to wait a couple of weeks for them, but if you allow for this then it's not a problem...1 point

It does look tiny, but the string isn't really pulling that far to the side. This one has held up for the past 27 years.1 point

Reliability of Markbass is well up there, and the Ninja is no different! The Ninja heads have masses more headroom so just feel bigger and more "open" sounding, but the same essential tone character of the Little Mark III. Regarding usability, many Markbass users leave all tone controls at virtually 12 O'clock and as M@23 said, do all they need with the filters. VLE - Vintage Loudspeaker Emulation (or James Jamerson knob as I like to call it!) and VPF - Variable Pre-shape Filter (which is a mid scoop), so yeah, pretty easy to find your tone really!1 point

I would encourage you to go for it. I've had one of the passive version (Model T Studio?) since 2013, and it's still one of my favourite basses.1 point

I never really had an opinion either way on Tom Robinson. However after seeing him play at a festival last year I was struck by what a thoroughly nice chap he is. Over the course of the set he recounted his experiences, the highs and lows - especially when he was virtually banned from the airwaves for being "Glad to be Gay", and later on rediscovering success with War Baby. He wasn't too shoddy a bass player either. It turned out to be one of the highlights of the festival for me1 point

Isn’t the rule of thumb, the heavier the band the nicer the guys? Would explain the Eagles too.1 point

I’m in Denbigh North Wales Happy to do set ups, maintenance, pickup replacements, basic electrics etc (Still learning fretwork so would prefer not to do it) When my workshops up and running can do more (Refinishing, Wood working etc)1 point

That is strangely awesome, and if I had time/space/use for another project I'd be tempted... I'm seeing it with the headstock cut to a Tele shape, the (s)lime green paint gone & an oiled finish, and a P pickup in addition to the MM, wired with a bunch of passive switching options. Only problem is I'm aiming for a no-new-basses 2018, so it's not gonna happen! GLWTS!1 point

I had similar luck on two wheels. It was the appearance of young master discreet that put a stop to it, not wanting him to lose his old dad before time.1 point

That was the first version of the song that I heard. I usually find that I prefer the original versions of most songs but have to admit WASP really nailed it.1 point

To be fair the revolutionary innovation happened years ago. I agree with you about the rut, but on the other hand when Fender do try something new everyone practically has a heart attack and demands they get back to their 'core values', i.e. more of the same.1 point

I'll chuck my hat in the ring.... I'm in Leeds. I can handle most common set up and mod jobs, except the really advanced/awkward stuff and refinishes, and if I can't do it I know exactly where to refer folks to. 😀 Oh and I have a good selection of teas!1 point
