  1. This is the lovely US built launch edition of the short scale G&L Fullerton Fallout bass in a rather fetching ‘racing yellow’. These racing stripe versions with the matching headstock were apparently a limited run. This is a really east bass to play - the neck is very fast and I’d say much better than the Tribute version of which I sold to get this. It is in excellent condition and is strung with heavy gauge round wounds from Daddario. There are some minor marks and a dent on the upper bout which has bruised the lacquer. This is only cosmetic of course. No issues with the trussrod. The bass doesn’t come with a case or bag but will be well packed if posted. I’ve included a pic comparing the size of it with a full scale Musicman bass. Although it’s a 30’’ scale with 19 frets it has a large body. The balance is perfect, tones are powerful and flexible and the weight is 4kgs which is easy on the shoulder. I’m selling because my short scale experiment started with and ended with my Ric 3000 - which I’m keeping. This is a well put together US made short scale bass that doesn’t look like a toy on a bigger player but is manageable for players of all sizes. The E has plenty of punch and the intonation is perfect. I’d recommend watching Ed Friedland AKA The Bass Whisperer’s YouTube demo which definitely sold this bass to me. See link.   2. I’m afraid you don’t have all your facts correct. Yes, I do use a vibrating platform, and I do use in ear monitors, but not all the time and not on every gig, and not on every song. I ALWAYS use my Bergantino rig and I can still hear it even when using IEM’s. Also, and this is a key point, not everyone in the band uses IEM’s including Jools himself and all of the singers and so my Bergantino rig is always on and never turned to zero. You should make sure you get your facts right before posting comments which are clearly just assumptions, and incorrect.

  3. Now sold to the man with the, frankly magnificent, beard. Hello folks, my daughter's car has gone bang in a very terminal way so I need to move a bass or two on or she'll sit round the house giving me shade all day. This is a Nate Mendel that is rather special because....er........ok, I got nothing, it's just the stock Nate Mendel that we all know & love. Everything works as it should, it's strung with Elite Detroit flatwounds, sounds great & that neck is as wonderful as everyone says. Only issue to be aware of is that, at some point the previous owner fitted an SPB 1 pickup & appears to have made a screw up. In the pickup cavity there is the remains of a broken height screw, it's not in the mounting screw hole, it's above it & sits about 2mm proud of the wood. However, you obviously cant see it & it doesn't interfere with the mounting or range of movement of the pick up. I suspect ham-fisted Harry probably started screwing in the mounting screw in the wrong place (not the existing hole) & it sheared off. Only mentioned for full disclosure. Otherwise, we have the Fender gigbag, tags etc & the original shipping carton. If you want the bass shipped I can pack it but can you organise your own courier, local pickup is always welcome too. Not looking for any trades - unless it's a city car with an auto-box & less than 2000 miles on it. I know folks like to make offers but in this case it's as cheap as it gets for a Mendel so don't look the proverbial equine present in the mush.

I can understand them wanting to reduce overheads by not lugging back line over from Ireland, but I thinks it’s a bit much to expect the bands they are asking to support them to provide it for them, presumably with no financial incentive to do so. ‘Let us use your back line or you don’t get the gig’ is like some bizarre form of musical blackmail, no matter how decent and respectful they might be.

  5. It helped him with his thesis . Fancy a channel trying to big up their footage to attract viewers .How very dare they . I've always found it something a lot of people watch and 5 people can have had 5 different weekend watches .Like a big Later episode . Without getting heavy its people playing music to other people .No one is dragged there . The bits i've watched on i player have been excellent

I always envied Guy Pratt who managed to juggle several amazing gigs at once, jumping from Icehouse to Pink Floyd to Brian Ferry and a slew of other famous names in between for touring and studio/TV work... his most recent project is Nick Masons Saucerful of Secrets, yet another enviable gig... he's had (and continues to have) an amazing career playing with some of the best musicians in the world... yeah I'd quite like Guy's job

  7. Sold - Excellent condition Ampeg Micro VR head with matching SVT210AV cabinet, Ampeg padded covers, speaker/mains cables, owner's manuals and original packaging. Don't be fooled by the small size of this class AB power section head as it can output 259 watts into a 4 ohm load or 160 watts into the matching 8 ohm SVT210AV cabinet. All working as it should.   8. I tried, but a Stingray is just not for me. This is a really good playing OLP Stingray that has been very well upgraded to include a Nordstrand MM4.2 pickup and a Retrovibe Stinger pre-amp. I have to say that I had very managed expectations when I bought it, but it is a superb bass. Not a bad weight, too, at 9.4lbs. I am down near Portsmouth, for those that want to give it a go. I am happy to travel a reasonable distance to save delivery, but will pack it fairly safely if I have to post it. Postage costs will be in addition to the quoted price (which is what I paid for it). This is the perfect way to dip your toes in the Stingray water, or to have a very capable back up.

So it's in really A1 condition. I had it setup by a top luthier last year and it plays really nicely with a low action. It's got some pin hole marks on the back but nothing really worth highliting. I'll add lots of high-res pics so you can have a good look around it. It has the most lovely growl. All you would expect from a P base but with the extra B string. The Labella strings are a month or so old and sound full of life. It has a beautiful balance when you ware it - about 9.1 lbs, roughly. So lighter than my old 4 string Jazz base.   12. Evening all, I have for sale an EBMM USA Sterling in Blue Pearl with the traditional unfinished roasted maple neck/board and inlaid neck plate purchased from . The EBMM site dates it to June 15th 1998 but also states that it should have a rosewood board and while I'm no expert, I would say that the neck currently on the bass is the original, it feels so integral. That point aside, the bass is entirely original and is in excellent working order with plenty of fret life and no crackle from the controls. I put it through its paces last night and bearing in mind that I hadn't played it in over a year and it had been sat in its case, only the G was slightly out of tune, which I thought was pretty impressive. Being a 24 year old bass, there is one ding which I have attempted to capture in the pictures below, just below the volume knob. For those that aren't familiar with it, the USA Sterling is a very versatile bass with a ceramic (rather than alnico) pick-up with 3-way switching between series, parallel and single coil. There is also a phantom coil which prevents hum when switched to single coil, I believe some guitar P-90s have this, it's a very useful feature. There is a 3-band EQ giving bass boost/cut, mid boost/cut and treble boost/cut, so it is possible to dial in a lot of different tones. Also, this is a powerful bass that can cut it with any guitar in the mix, it won't get lost that's for sure. And that brings me to the reason for sale, I just don't need something with this much grunt any more, so I would rather it went to a good home and saw some action, gutted as I will be to see it leave. In terms of playability, this is one of the nicest basses I have had the pleasure to play, the profile of the neck is very Jazz (as opposed to the Stingray's more Precision feel) and the lack of finish gives it a fast smooth feel. The intonation is excellent all the way to the sculpted heel which gives great accessibility to the high notes, if you like that kind of thing! 😊 Set up on the Sterling is easy due to the dial wheel truss rod and the bridge is the later model (post Flea bridge with no mute posts) but very solid and keeps the strings well locked in. This one is strung with a set of DR Hi Beams (100-45s) which were put on in late 2019 when the bass was last set up and neck re-oiled but due to Covid they are hardly played and have plenty of life left. All in all, a great bit of kit which I will be sad to see go, it comes complete with an old school, sturdy EBMM hard case (curiously like an old Fender model) which is also in very good order with no rips or tears. The Sterling also has Schaller strap-locks fitted which I will leave on and throw in a Nu-buck strap with the matching lock clips. I have priced this at £1100 couriered in mainland Britain, which looking at Reverb, Bass Gallery and other sites, seems a fair price point. I will use a reliable courier and the bass will be delivered (insured) in it's case which in turn will be wrapped.

  14. Always tune up to pitch. If you go sharp, tune back down below the note, give the string a bit of a pull away from the fretboard around the 12th fret to release any slack, then try again, only ever tuning up to pitch.

  15. Just think of slightly outdated, tired, overplayed songs that people call ‘classics’, that you loathe the thought of having to play to other human beings. That will make up the majority of any function band set. Can you tell I how much I have loved playing in function bands over the past 20 years.

  16. This is a lovely ‘97-‘98 MIJ jazz that I’ve modelled on a ‘64 relic type vibe. I chose it as a relic project based on the beautifully dark rosewood board similar to those that the originals had. It sounds and plays great. It’s been modded as follows: - Medium relic Surf green nitro finish with matching headstock and period correct decal (difficult to capture the colour but it looks more like the pictures that are more towards the green side, rather than the blueish hue most of the pics seem to have) - Fender pure vintage ‘64 pickups (same as those found in the Flea jazz bass) - Gotoh Res-O-lite vintage style reverse tuners - KiOgon wiring / pots - Schaller strap locks - period correct bridge with threaded saddles - period correct off-white pickguard - All the hardware has been reliced a little Weight - 4.2kg on my scales. I have a soft fender tweed case and plenty of boxing / bubble wrap for postage. I’d prefer collection from Cardiff if possible. EDIT - Happy to consider trades for basses of similar or lower value + cash. I’d consider a P bass, especially a Nate Mendel or could also be interested in a 5 string. NOW £800 Including UK delivery

  20. I've been to Glastonbury Fayre/festival only once - mid 70s, no name bands, no tickets, no security - just a few hundred stoned hippies making music to entertain each other. I preferred the 70s Stonehenge festivals held over the solstice (Glastonbury is always the week after Stonehenge as most people drifted from one to the other). I think I saw some of Zorch playing and probably Here & Now who played most of the free festivals in those days. Maybe Nik Turner as well - it's a long time ago and there were many other small festivals back then - Deeply Vale & Ruthin come to mind. I've probably forgotten more than I remember now, must have been something in the water

  21. Cor blimey there's some grumpy gits on here isn't there. I've just watched Róisín Murphy's set and it was brilliant from start to finish, a great show from a proper bang up rock star with plenty of bass action to boot. If this sort of thing is typical for Glastonbury then I'm thinking I ought to go one of these years.

  26. Hi guys, I follow this thread. However, I haven’t commented yet because a couple of years ago I retired from the church music group I played with. So, I didn’t feel I had much to add. The last couple of post, particularly the one above, bring back shudders 😉 Over the period I served we had singers, and occasionally instrumentalists, who thought it ‘un-Godly’ or ‘too professional and slick’ (their words) to try and improve or even rehearse. It’s a tough gig, hats off to all you who persevere.

  32. ***** NOW SOLD PENDING PAYMENT ***** I purchased this from a fellow Bass Chat member just over 2 years ago. It's a 1998 model made from swamp ash with a rosewood board. I recently had a newer G&L pre-amp fitted by KGB music in Birkenhead and Barry commented on how it stood out as a very resonant bass versus the other G&L's he's previously come across. The B string sounds very focused due to the through-body stringing and 3 over 2 headstock. It has a great action and plays very easy up and down the neck. Considering its age, there's no high frets or buzzing. It has a lot of flexibility due to the pre-amp and has the G&L growl from the combination of the pickups and preamp. It has a big, heavy sound with a very powerul output. There are signs of wear on the bass; the tuners are tarnished but work perfectly well. There's various smaller marks and scratches on the body and a small crack around the gloss finish near one of the pots (see photo below), but not the wood and the pot itself is not damaged (brand new as part of the pre-amp recently fitted). The nut looks yellowed, but no signs of damage. Weighs 9.8 lbs. Recently put some new Ernie Ball Nickel's on (super long) and much prefer them to D'Addario. Great detail in the sound of the B string. As mentioned previously; I've had a new G&L pre-amp fitted and also a newer bridge. Comes with a G&L case. The reason I am selling is that I have a U.S. L2000 and other 4 strings and am less into 5 string basses these days due to the music I am now playing. Asking price as above plus shipping.   33. Something a little different here. its a 1991 4003 in midnight blue with black hardware. Think they did a limited run of these in red, and in white as well as the blue. Over the years, the colour of this one has changed to a more petrol blue due a mixture of age, sweat, sunlight and I suspect tobacco. It has numerous chips on body, neck and headstock, the finish on the rear of the neck is partly worn away. It’s a genuinely roadworn Ric it looks great, it plays great and the neck is lovely it had a full set up last year and new strings (markbass if I recall). Asking price is £1500 and I’ve tried to balance out the limited edition aspect of the bass against the roadworn condition. Not an easy one to price. im based in Wakefield, West Yorkshire and I’d rather do collection or meet up if possible. PS - I’ve got the original case which is even more roadworn than the bass but I’ve got new latches for it which just need fitting by any decent cobbler with the rivet tool. Just need to locate those new latches following a recent housemove.

  34. Wonderful, high-end arch-top electric bass cum EUB. Features the Cooltube preamp and piezo pickup, which together make it sound very DB-ish. Can be played horizontal, with strap, or fully upright on a supplied brass pin. Curved ebony board - a la DB - so can even be bowed. Previous owner @Happy Jack had his luthier inset big side dots on the side of the board to aid in intonation (a godsend, AFAIAC). Comes with amazing looking but heavy-as-heck faux snakeskin hard case and a much more gig-friendly Tm and Will padded cello case. Asking £1500 collected or meet up in or close to SW13 area (south of Hammersmith Bridge). No delivery I am afraid given the bulk of the bass plus two cases/bags.   35. It would have been XSLF, the “other half” of the original band. SLF are still playing the bigger venues like The Roundhouse& O2 Academies with in-house PAs and their own full backlines, whereas XSLF are doing the smaller venues and rely on the local bands to provide the backlines (and sometimes PAs).

  39. We only ever relied on other bands gear once when we were the headliners. We were asked to do a one-off gig in Munich, and there were two other bands on tour in that neck of the woods so it was arranged by the promoter to use their gear rather than us drive all the way there with our backline - it`s a very long way to Munich, and we weren`t quite big enough to command a fee that would cover that kind of expense. The gig was packed out so worked well for all bands, with plenty of merch sales all round. We would have bought them beers to say thanks but being a gig in Germany more beer was provided than the three bands could drink anyway.

  40. I had forgotten about the other bit but they also wanted us to provide the full PA. Our drummer who has toured some major venues across UK and Europe ie Wembley Arena has the full QSC PA with a combination of different cabs depending on venue size up to 1000 audience sized gigs. After that its a hired PA. I think the promoter was just a chancer cause he wanted the use of the full PA plus our backline and lights for our nominal fee of £300. We just said no. Dave

  42. Most church music groups consist of volunteers. It’s set up to remove any need to improve, as they’re doing everyone a favour by serving. Very difficult to mange expectations. I got out of dodge a few years ago, stuck myself in the sanctuary with a guitar, looper pedal and book of psalms and ancient prayers. Never felt more at home and free from politics.

It would be fine. 🙂 You'd need a ridiculously loud bass rig for it to make any noticeable contribution to FoH sound at this sort of venue, and as I said previously if that was the case, the sound engineer would be asking you to turn down. They'd just put a DI on the bass and feed you through the FoH and foldback, so that you, the rest of your band and the audience could hear you.

  45. Train your ears. That trumps everything else. After that, learn the notes that make up different chords and figure out where they are on your fretboard; most people think that they've got both of those things covered, but few rarely do. Oh, and gear doesn't really matter.

  48. I`m not keen on bass (or drums as it happens) in the monitors anyway, I like to keep them for vocals & guitars. I don`t my amp majorly loud on stage, just same volume as unamplified drums, as such for a venue such as O2 Academy I`d want something big enough to not struggle/be pushed. Most of us have watched some of Glastonbury over the weekend, I wonder why all those pro bassists seemed to be happy with big rigs on those big stages, they could learn a lot from logging on here.
