Did a bass swap before the New Year and picked up this Aria SB 1000B re-issue. Always wanted one and was a little scared about picking up one of the older ones reading so much about them having pick up problems. This one is a joy to play, love the ebony board and the low pass filtery type pre-amp. having the 2 octave neck is also nice. Weights in a fairly comfortable 4.4kg. Hopefully I can get to use it in anger... Got practice next week, think I'll take it along. Anyone else out there got one of these?15 points

It features a beautiful padauk veneer over a mahogany core and chrome hardware. Originally, this bass was fretted, but it has been professionally converted to a fretless bass with the installation of a new Indian rosewood fingerboard. This fingerboard was custom-made and includes an extension on the G and D strings to allow for a full two-octave range on those two strings. A brass nut has also been added. The rest of the bass is original and in perfect working order, including the hardware, electronics, and truss rod. The fretboard is in excellent condition, and the bass has just been set up with a brand new set of Ernie Ball strings. It weighs 4.5 kg. Although this bass is 33 years old, it is in excellent condition. It shows some minor signs of wear, as one would expect. However, I am confident that you will be hard-pressed to find another bass from this era in such good condition. I have taken care to provide photos from as many angles as possible so you can clearly see what you are buying. This sale includes the original Wal hardshell case. After a whole year with no gigs and auditioning for nine bands, joining six, only to quit four of them, I started 2026 with a gig! New years day at Tynemouth squash club. My new brit pop project Rewind played our first gig to sadly mixed reviews, we knew we weren't at gigging level but the club had been let down by another band and 3/4 of the band (not me, I'm fat) are members so we were drafted. Some major blunders (me shouting chords at the guitarist during a disastrous 'I predict a riot' was a highlight) but overall I'm not too beaten up about it. We knew we weren't really ready and there were more good moments than bad, there's definitely the bones of a good band there. Rig: G&L tribute sb2, shure wireless, quad cortex, pair of qsc k12.2. This cool bass was meticulously handcrafted in the USA in 1989 by master guitar maker Michael Pedulla. The bass is completely original and features custom Bartolini pickups paired with a Bartolini preamp. The bass's unique and elegant body shape provides excellent balance whether you're playing sitting or standing. At only 3.95 kg (7 lbs), the bass is very lightweight, allowing you to play comfortably even during long gigs without needing a chiropractor the next day. The sale includes the original Pedulla hardshell case. Please note that unlike newer Pedulla models, this one does not require any special tools for adjusting the truss rod. The truss rod can be adjusted with a simple flathead screwdriver. As many of you already know, Michael has retired, so Pedulla basses are no longer in production. This is a rare opportunity to acquire one of these incredible instruments while it's still possible. Although this bass is 36 years old, it has been treated with care and respect all these years. Amazing sounding amp, but I'm going all in on my Darkglass Anagram, so it's silly having 4 amps laying around. Comes in a nice Gator rack bag, and with original footswitch. In very good condition and all working as it should. I'd rather not post due to the tubes, but would pack as securely as possible if you wanted to arrange a courier. Also happy to meet up within reasonable distance of High Wycombe, Bucks. The Fusion 550 incorporates a unique six stage tube preamp paired with the same high current analog power amp utilized in our RB Series. Last night we played The Burton in Brixham. Our 2nd NYE there. The last one wasn't great, so we were hoping for more this time. We only got this one recently as we were booked for the 20th December originally and were offered this foe double pay and a crate of Bus so took it. For the most part a good crowd and some enthusiastic dancing in the 2nd set. I dressed up with a festive Santa Hawian shirt and matching bucket hat, with my shades to finish the look. A good couple of sets by us with only a few 'moments'. Back home by 1.45am. My usual rig of StingRay, RM 500 evo II & BF210. foot wear were my slip on Skechers. Got a couple of months off now before the next gig.7 points

Has this been mentioned here yet? Seems like it will hit the spot for a lot of people in this thread, Fender Japan Chilli Beans / Maika Mustang (although it's made in Indonesia I think). Almost exactly what I was after a couple of years ago, if I was still searching for a short scale I would 100% grab one of these.6 points

Pretty much all our gigs are carbon copies of the ones before. The usual mix of uninterested pub goers, drunken tosspots and thankfully a few who appreciate half decent live music to make it seem all worthwhile but mainly nothing much to report here! So our NYE gig was a at a sports and social club in Warrington, new to us so no idea on what to expect. A sold out ticket event of 200 mixed aged partygoers so it was going to be a mixed bag of reactions. Probably not going to be everybody's cup of tea but heyho. Understandably started a bit subdued but it was a good (polite) crowd. Second set improved and just got better and better. We played well, PA was great and was well enjoyed by all with some very positive comments. The best gig I've done for about 15 years I should think.5 points

I’m in a house band that does a weekly jam , and let other players use my gear. Four different players , same bass , same amp , same settings will sound completely different.4 points

I use mine with a GigRig I picked up second hand for cheap. Gives me IEC and plenty of ma. Outside of that I generally power it via usb c with whatever I’m using for my iPad and have nearby. Any battery that will do PD (Power Delivery) will power it, just need to specifically look for that PD output. I’ve just ordered the Darkglass Midi switch after some friends gifted me a Thomann Voucher for Christmas so excited to incorporate that. Mostly so it can sit on my desk so I can fiddle with it but then still turn stuff on and off when playing or even be as bold as to use the looper. The Mood fuzz is great, very quick and easy to dial in an hitting a tone I’ve been using a Subdecay Noise Theory nam for. I wish I had something more intelligent or articulate to offer but the Anagram is just doing everything I need, I’ve gigged it twice, run it as an iem mixer and all my fx, since I got my Punchline nam into it, it’s been perfect. Might even be listing the last of my pedals for sale soon.4 points

While working in a music store in the early 70's (Sound Centre Cardiff 71 to 75) Hofner Galaxy basses and Verthin basses did not attract the same attention as the “Beatle Bass”. The Verthin was a fine instrument with a good range of tones, light and comfortable to play. Gibson and Fender dominated the market, while Hofners had low resale value. At the time my own bass guitar route was Hagstrom Futurama to Fender Musicmaster to Gibson EB3. It’s ironic how those basses which did not receive too much love at the time are now commanding prices from £750 upwards. Last year I purchased a Hofner Shorty for lounge noodling and “leave-in-the-car” backup. With an old set of La Bella Deep talking flat wounds the Shorty has a lovely range of tones from warm & woody to typical Hofner “Beatle Bass” thump. Happy days !!4 points

In at the deep end will get you ready far quicker than rehearsals. You soon learn not to make mistakes and put more effort in at home. That's been my experience over the years. You now have the first gig under your belt so polish up on the set and get out there and just enjoy it. All the very best for 2026. Dave4 points

Final 2025 dep gig on lead guitar with a pub covers band. Ticketed NYE pub event with family members on the guest list. All went really well and had to remind myself that a lot of the gigs can be grim with a really late drive home. Looking forward to 2026 with at least 3 happening band projects!4 points

We had a bonus gig today. Given that we are a Blackmore's Night style renaissance-folk-rock band, the chance to play in this genuine Tudor manor house was irresistible. 2 hours of ballads accompanied by octave mandolin, interspersed with seasonal tunes on recorder and tambourine. We have an invite back, and we've also agreed in principle to use the location to record videos for our forthcoming album of renaissance tunes & ballads. The venue: The owners suggested we play by the log fire and so we did our first ever acoustic set.4 points

I think it is more than a few people. Try oldies and there are a lot of us. Size, weight and stretch become issues when you have back and joint problems. You might be spared but many of us aren’t. The sweet spot for me at the moment is medium scale but shorties are even more forgiving and may become my standard in the not too distant future as arthritis progresses. At the moment I use a couple in one band because they suit the material we play. I am not always convinced by the kids with full scale basses. They may be able to slap the hell out of a six string for 5 minutes but could they get through a full gig with that beast over their shoulder? I guess Tal Wilkenfeld is the prime example of a small person who can and is a brilliant bassist in multiple styles.4 points

So I set out to design a bass pre-amp that truly reproduced your bass sound & thus enabled you to tailor your sound. Also the tone controls had to work in the right areas & the pre had to have all the bells & whistles we need to do our job. Perceived tone will change with a volume change, that's just in the physiological functioning of human ears. I realise, of course, that some musicians do not seem to have human ears (or, at least, human hearing...). There is no 'magic bullet' that compensates 'automatically' to keep it all 'as one wants it'; some adjustment around the original change is most often required, or acceptance that it's changed, and it's fine. (Disclaimer : I'm a drummer, so what would I know ..?)3 points

This is a great sounding amp that has never let me down, and always got me compliments on my tone. In great condition except a small dent on the top that is hardly noticeable. Doesn't affect the operation of the amp on any way. Going all in on the Darkglass Anagram, so having 4 amps is very excessive! Happy to ship for cost, or meet up within reasonable distance of High Wycombe.3 points

So I had a quick play with my damaged bass. At present to hear anything with any degree of clarity through the embryonic sound hole requires that my ears are quite a lot close than is convenient. Having said that, the tone when I could hear it was rather nice, which makes me wonder not only about a soundhole for monitoring but also possible for micing. Anyway, gonna call the luthier over the weekend and get a design agreed, I'll update as soon as done 👍3 points

KZ-ZS10 or ZS10 pros are about the best of the bunch on a budget. I use them and they have plenty of bass, though I hear enough of that from the cab behind me anyway, so I have a mix with backing vocals, bit of drums and guitar etc. They’re all good all round budget IEM for about £40.3 points

Unbeknownst to the then current Mrs Zero, I had started seeing the then future Mrs Zero, a former girlfriend that I had re-encountered 25 years after she split up with me (at her dad's insistence). The then current Mrs Zero (Mrs Zero 2) never came to any of my gigs, and so the now current Mrs Zero (Mrs Zero 3) came along to them and became friends with the band and wives. The drummer gave us (by hand) a Christmas card which said "To Mike and Kaz" inside, and Mrs Zero 2 opened it. It was at this point (rather than after Christmas, which was my original plan) that I decided I should move out and move in with Mrs Zero 3. Ah yes, not-so-irrational prejudices: alcoholic wives.3 points

Well, its found a place on my board. Still getting to grips with it, but it's a VERY cool sounding unit, easy to adjust the parameters for the most part, and all the sounds it makes are actually useable, rather than something to just muck about with. Took a good bit of messing about to get it working well in my QC chain. Naturally, it doesn't track nearly as well as I'd hoped. The hammer-ons and pull-offs not re-triggering in Ian's videos was what I was really hoping would work, and it does for the most part below the 7th fret or so, but any further up on all strings it retriggers, which is frustrating, and a tad confusing really as I'm not sure I understand why, for example, G2 on the A string will hammer nicely from F, but retriggers on the D (10th vs 5th fret). I'm sure using old flats help a ton, EQ curves and compression on the QC help tame the harmonics and smooth things out from the rounds but its still not brilliant. Still, it handles ghost notes well and there isn't a ton of latency, as long as its in 4 string mode. The first and last preset are my faves, the last being quite similar to one of my favourite patches I had on the Chunk synth.3 points

Arrived today. 😀 Even at it's lowest settings I'm getting pure square wave fuzz. Mix it with a chorus pedal for early 1980s synth sound. Perfect for early Gary Numan / Tube way army.3 points

Well I nearly had a gig today. Got a dep sorted, unknown band at two hour's notice 40 minutes away, and had to pick up my gear with a detour. Driving across I got a message from a disconsolate BL who'd had his band replaced by another. Possibly dodged a bullet, even though it was a good paying gig, I knew a lot or could busk most of it but in retrospect two or three hours prep rather than an hour would have been needed.3 points

Squier Vintage Modified active Jaguar 5 string bass The previous owner did the following: Fender USA Hi-Mass bridge (will also come with the original bent piece of metal) Fender USA Noiseless Jazz pickup I understand the Precision pickup is a Fender USA one but don't know which one. Fender USA neck plate. I removed the Fender USA decal from the headstock and just stuck a skull/wings decal with my year of birth. I also stuck some red tortoiseshell vinyl over the black scratch plate.2 points

Markbass synth pedal in excellent condition. Does a variety of synth bass and octave sounds. Great pedal but just sitting on the shelf unused by me so may as well go to someone who may get some use. Hi all Continuing a bit of a clear out. Next up is this lovely Silver Series Squier PJ from the fujigen plant in the early 90s. Only selling as I have two of them. This one has had a Bartolini bridge pickup fitted, the jack socket has been moved to the side and a blend pot added. The controls are in the order vol/tone/blend. It’s also been fully shielded with gold foil. All work professionally by Gary Chandler Honor in Denmark Street. If you aren’t familiar Gary used to work with Stairway to Kevin and more recently worked as tech on ABBA Voyage amongst other gigs. The bridge has been replaced with a relicd Gotoh slotted saddle one, I might still have the original if you want it included. There are general age related dents and dings but nothing major. Any big circular marks in the photos are just light reflections. Also worth noting, the nut has a slight gap under it on one side. This doesn’t affect action or playability at all (and could be easily changed if you wished) but wanted to mention for transparency. pics below, any questions give me a shout. Yeah, I've gone through dozens of in ear headphones and those KZ-ZS10 are the ones that I've found best for Bass playing. I think it's mostly down to the fact they fit well.2 points

I tried one (not sure brand) at a bass bash and it didn't suit my style at all. Felt disappointed ... nothing to do with quality or setup, just felt too 'electric guitary' to my fat fingers.2 points

@itu might have meant basses without active tone control (that being part of the preamp instead of "cut only" tone control of a P-bass), but merely with a sort of buffer (call it transparent preamp if you will) being described as active (like L-2000 apart from treble boost).2 points

Definitely agree re sound; when one of the guitar players in the band I'm in bought a bass IV, switching to a Fallout bass solved a lot of problems. I'd been using a very nice P bass up to then but the Fallout sounding so even across the board, ( particularly played high up the dusty end) it really sat in the spectrum below the bass IV without competing for the same space. I marvel sometimes how 2 30 inch scale basses ( admittedly one into a guitar rig, one into a bass amp setup) can separate out so well. The Fallout is capable of being physically an octave above the bass IV yet feeling much deeper. It didn't work like that with the Precision. All very subjective and unique to that band situation obviously.2 points

I have played covers for most of my bass playing life, so mainly tried to capture the bass sound on those records. When I have gigged in originals bands I have found tones to suit their music. I don’t have a sound that i think is distinctive such that i could recognise it in a blindfold hearing test, however i think I would recognise myself more by note choices and articulation more than tone. Others may hear if i have a signature sound more than I would.2 points
