  1. Buy it. Take out all the electronics and replace them with expensive ones. Have it defretted. Then realise the true meaning of "don't need" and "can't play" with the added sting of it no longer being a bargain. That's what I would do!

  2. Exactamundo! Not remotely terrifying. For the purposes of clarification: Titan = Despotic marionette ruler of vast undersea realm, his reign enforced by '000's of spiky headed goons in 'terrifying' mechanical fish; also former master of Marina, slave, mute hottie and Lt. Atlanta Shore's rival for affections of Capt. Troy Tempest Triton = 1. A Greek god, the messenger of the sea, offspring of Poseidon. Often confused with Titan (see above). 2. Popular brand of electric shower appliance Aquaphibians Aquaphibian 1: "Troy Tempest! You're f*cking nicked, me old beauty"

  3. In the event that I elect to pursue The Life Aquatic I shall instruct my people to build a full-size version of this above, an Aquapibian Terror Fish as deployed by His Majesty King Titan out of the TV documentary series Stingray. Obviously I shall demand that my vessel be considerably more terrifying than the model above which exudes - rather - an air of cheerful gormlessness.

  6. As my feedback on this site (and eBay for that matter) shows I'm still an old fashioned gentleman, if I say I'll buy it or sell it then that's what I do.

  8. My new custom made medium scale 4 string P type bass. Built by Robin Manton of http://mantoncustoms.co.uk with a 1 piece ash body, maple neck, hipshot tuners, gotoh bridge, cts pots. The pickups is hand wound by http://www.catswhiskerpickups.co.uk who I also can't recommend highly enough. The build quality is impeccable and the 6 bolt neck, solid bridge, great wood, gives it fabulous sustain and combined with the pickup, great tone. 2 companies I highly recommend for excellent work at very reasonable prices. John.

  10. I think you will find most hotels and food outlets match your opinion of Amazon. Not to mention products made in the far east. I know of one national outdoor activity shop that uses zero hours- min wage. You don't know how many high street treat their staff this way. Much of what I buy from Amazon actually comes from independent dealers who use the site as a shop window.

  11. Yes the Custom Shop 62s sounds quite a bit different to those in the 2011 model, more rich and vintage sounding whereas the 2011s I found to be more scooped and modern sounding. As the 62s are my all time fave I’ll happily recommend them.

  14. A pal of mine drunk bid on and won a military vehicle which was in London, he lives on the Isle of Wight... Ended up having to get the ferry over and try to drive it back, broke down 3 times before Southampton. Still he now owns a weird little armoured military vehicle for some reason so there's always that...

  15. The serial number indicates it's a 2011 model. in 2011 Fender celebrated 60 years of the Precision bass and every bass of that year had a commemorative neck plate. This does not make them an Anniversary model. There was a special 60th anniversary precision bass - the Blackguard Blond model - but yours isn't one. Your bass is a standard US model from that year. It comes with the standard 61276/7 split coil pickups. From 2012 on, Fender fitted Custom Shop 62s instead. You can buy the customer shop pickups separately so if you wanted to upgrade then this would be a good start. As far as I know, there is no such thing as a 64 precision pickup.

  17. I object to that. I do not have a ridiculously expensive haircut! I must admit to being in the "not surprised but a little disappointed" group that so many people are happy to renague on a deal just because everyone else does it. I certainly flag them up as a non paying bidder or a non selling seller when it happens, and have my selling settings set to not allow anyone who has more than (whatever the minimum) strikes against them is.

  18. This. I don't do much trading these days but I've bought and sold hundreds of items on both BC and eBay over the years. Feeling it's ok to renege on a deal just because other people do it or because the host doesn't enforce the rules sets an unwelcome precedent IMHO. It may be common on eBay; pray it doesn't become common on Basschat. Thin end of the wedge and all that...

  19. A bump for a very nice and unique fretless bass. It has a lot of different sounds to offer. Good luck with the sale. Both magnetic pickups: Piezo only:

  20. Ps. 5 & 6 string basses are generally played by people with ridiculously expensive haircuts & no friends! So there! *runs to fall-out shelter in fear for life*

  21. The right thing to do is buy it as you made an 'offer/contract' with eBay/seller. Play it, if you like it keep it. If not, sell it. If you pay via your credit card, you have a month to sell it/settle your bill. I doubt the financial hit will be too great. Do the right thing, it will make you feel better.

  22. Suck it up!! 😃 A new bass is a win, sounds like a good price, play with it then sell it on here for what you paid? 👍

  23. Continuing with my long-scale bass clear out ... this beautiful piece of luthiery was originally made - around 9 or 10 years ago I think - by the super talented Alan Cringean (of ACG Guitars) for Kev Hopper (aka Spoombung, bassist with the wonderful Prescott and formerly with Stump). It has carved walnut facings (the only one of its kind), an ACG filter preamp, piezo bridge pickup option, and detuners on the E and G strings. Currently wearing LaBella black nylon strings so it can do an upright/Rob Allen fretless sound as well as more modern fretless sounds, courtesy of the very sophisticated Wal-like preamp. It weighs 9.5 pounds and played by someone with talent (not me) it sounds fabulous - Johannes Leitner of BC owned this once and here is what he could do with this fabulous bass: I am after £1400 (to include new semi-rigid Gator case) collected from SW London (south of Hammersmith) or post at cost on top. I have a short scale ACG Recurve which is a wonderful instrument. Alan really is a genius when it comes to basses and this is a total one-off. Specs here: American Black Walnut body with a Native Walnut top. Deep set neck made from Wenge/Bubinga/Flame Maple. Acrylic Impregnated lined Ebony board. Hipshot Type A with piezo and FB neck pickup and SB bridge pickup, ACG EQ01 pre-amp. Hipshot extenders on the E and G string. *Sale only, no trades thanks*

  25. Gibson SG 120th anniversary Bass and Original Gibson hard case and paperwork. Made In USA 2014. Has genuine play wear inbetween the pickups as you can see and several small chips to the matt finish. Some rash/wear to the back. There is also a small chip/ding on rear of neck, everything works and she sounds great. Shipping £15 UK.

  26. As the Ian Messiter of this game I hereby decree that we need not be able to play the bass line 100% as per the original. This would be a retrograde step which might exclude folk from having a go. If it can be guessed then that's good enough!

  27. Played a Jake L4pj today at The Bass Gallery. Finished in a rich metallic ocean green colour with a white guard - more green than “ocean turquoise” but certainly in that ballpark colour-wise Frankly, I was blown away by the playability and the SOUND. My god. Lots of output, proper barky Precision tone with the P pup solo’d and was able to blend the J in to taste with the passive V/V/T wiring. And - very importantly for me - a tone pot which was useable across the entire sweep of the knob. To top it all off it weighed next to nothing too as it’s a chambered construction. Sub - 8lbs! It felt like it had rolled fingerboard edges too. Hardware/pickups seemed to be of the standard Maruszczyk variety and all looked and felt top notch. Suffice to say if the shop wasn’t closing I could have sat with it for a good while longer...at under a grand I had to give my wallet a serious pep talk.

  28. I picked it up with the action plenty low enough for me, with no fret buzz, every one nicely level and ends rounded over. It is brand new but felt like an old friend from the start. I imagine the action could go lower if required.

  36. I find Amazon generally great when things go well but utterly horrible to deal with in event something goes wrong. For example: I ordered a CD, but I received the vinyl LP in error. I return the item via the Amazon returns system. I then go through the re-ordering process through the online box ticking via the Amazon interface system. I then need to send a 'wrong item description' online thingy which is then sent off but does nothing (because said online thing gets stuck in a processing vortex between Amazon and the seller/shop in question). I then re-order the correct item making clear that I am ordering the CD and not the LP (and taking screenshots to show that I am ordering the CD and not the vinyl). Click order. What happens next? Of course, the re-send me the vinyl and the process begins again. Had the issue happened with an independent shop, I could have just phoned the shop and said 'you sent me a vinyl when I just ordered a CD' and the matter would have be resolved in two seconds with a 'sorry about that. Can you maybe return the vinyl and we will post out the CD and refund you the postage costs of the vinyl?' exchange. For that reason, for any items of expense, I generally prefer ordering from a shop as if something goes wrong then I can contact the shop/seller directly rather than have to deal with the Amazon interface system. For the record, I am now just keeping the vinyl even though I don't own a record player.

  37. Generally I try and support shops but some make that quite difficult. What I worry about is the likes of Amazon, Facebook, eBay etc becoming so ubiquitous that even the good guys, smaller more specialist firms (like BC!), get passed over because default behaviour becomes to use one of the giants.

  40. I'd buy it if I bid on it I'm genuinely saddened by the amount of people saying don't buy it there'll be no consequences , there's been so many threads about timewasters etc Serious question to the OP why did you bid if you thought your bid was under the reserve and you didn't want at that price anyway
