  2. We saw one a few years back called Oasish, they had the whole Schtick down perfect, muddy wall of sound, no charisma between them, gormless looking front man..they were spot on! 😁

  3. Full on - and take care of any EQ from amp or DAW. With a passive bass you really want all the output the pickup has to offer.

  4. Never thought I would do it, but my aluminium addiction is getting worse and I have decided to part with my Sandberg VM5. I have ordered and got it from Sandberg in 2013, but I have switched to 4 strings soon after. It sounds great and has won most of the blind tests among my other basses. Mint condition (always wanted to make this joke). But seriously, it has some slight sights of use and has absolutely no functional problems. Now for specs: Alder Body Maple with rosewood fingerboard neck and matched headstock NO INLAYS (has block decales now) 35" scale Sandberg pickups with 2 active/passive preamp with bridge coils split Comes with original gigbag ~4.5kg on bathroom scales Actually has no neck inlays - blocks on the photos are only stickers, happy to take them off if you want to. 1100 1000 GBP. Based in London, but can organise a courier at buyers expense.

  6. Just got and fitted a lovely new Electro Harmonix valve from our friends at Watford Valves, as recommended by Derek as an early breakup valve. In short it sounds fantastic in my Trace. With the valve pre set to full, the gain at 9 and the low compression at half, it gives me that tiny bump of breakup at the edge of every plucked note. Been pursuing that tone for so many years and have finally got it.

  9. For some its Spend a fortune on boutique basses i need, because i cant play on anything other than hand built basses, but never leave the bedroom with them, so spend more money on basses that im happy to take to gigs (and amazingly, i can play them)

  10. Hi guys We've dealt with this character before. He always uses 'Gear' at the beginning of his username and joins from a Nigerian based IP (we've now banned access from all Nigerian IPs) but now he's found out how to use a VPN it seems. I'm going to add a warning about scammers in the wanted forum as it seems this is always how he contacts people. At the weekend Rik and I are doing some work on the forum and one job will be to flush this idiot away once and for all. Sorry about that chaps ped

  11. If you'd read my post right at the beginning of this thread you'd know that the three bolt micro-tilt system was dropped because Fender's engineering practices and quality control did not allow the mechanism to be installed in such a way that let it to operate as intended without any unwanted side effects. If the neck pocket and heel of the neck have been machined properly a single bolt would be all that is required. It the mating surfaces are flat so that there is 100% contact and the neck is a snug fit in the pocket, the bolt is only there to hold the two parts together when under the tension of the strings and even then much of the force exerted on the joint will be tending to pull the neck tighter into the pocket. The bolt is only there counteract the lifting action of the string pull.

  12. I played guitar for 30 years and have been playing bass for about 15 years and have never got it. I've had lessons. Read books. Gone online. Bought 'better' basses. I'm still a root, 5th octave player who throws in a pentatonic every now and then. I think the understanding music part of the brain is related to language and maths, and I (even though I'm 1/2 'foreign') can hardly speak a word of another language and had extra maths every Saturday morning throughout my school days (I'm not bad now, but I'm not a natural). But, I play in two bands. We get paid gigs and I'm complemented on my playing by the rest of the band (though of course, they could be sh*t too and just don't recognise if I'm good or bad). Learn as much as you can, if you can, but don't let it get in the way of enjoying playing.

  14. Fender Classic 50's Precision Bass Fiesta Red - £600 £500 Owned since last year, 2017 build. Having to make some cash back on a new purchase, and this bass led me to buying a NOS '59 P, so it's a little surplus to requirements. In really good condition. Photos to go up tonight. A choice of gold aluminium pick guard or tortoise shell. Comes with original Fender gig bag. Bass is in Maidenhead, but it can be viewed in Bath by arrangement. Happy to ship. Thanks for looking! T

  15. Up for sale goes a nice vintage Yamaha BB1000S bass guitar in a beautiful transparent red finish. It sports neck-through-body maple/mahogany neck with dark rosewood fretboard and alder body wings. Original pickups had been replaced with EMG active pickups with passive vol-vol-tone controls. Neck is comfy, smooth and straight. Truss rod working as it should, frets show some signs of use but there is still a lot of life left in them. The weight is about 4,5 kg (10 lb) on my traveller scales. PayPal payment possible (buyer covers the fee), shipping within EU will take £30. It will be well boxed and insured for shipping. More photos can be found here: http://s1030.photobucket.com/user/koval123/slideshow/Yamaha BB1000s?sort=9

  16. BASS NOW SOLD A new Precision purchase means I ought to replenish some funds! I bought this from Rich on here just over a month ago. It has been nicely customised with a mint(?) pickguard that looks the business (the original Tort IS included in the sale too), faux earth strip, thumb rest and strap button on the rear of the headstock. The red nitro finish with the roadworn wear looks great. Action is good with straight neck. Comes with nice Westfield gigbag and original Fender blurb in the bag pocket. This is priced a full £500 cheaper than a new one... which looks much like a used one 🙂 The bass is in Doncaster but I have packaging for a courier if needed. Please note I'm NOT looking for trades thanks... I'm trying to settle on my new Precision !!

  20. Thanks for the reply. I actually went for the Clip in the end, not the pedal as apparently, they're even more accurate than the pedals. (So they say)😂

  21. Well for north Wales the weather has been hot these last few weeks but the last two have been baking, I had the day off yesterday but decided to try working outside today and enjoy the sun. It started out lovely but eventually it got too hot and I ended up with a towel draped over my head trying to keep the sun off, I had a magnifying visor on so I couldn't wear a hat. I got some done and now I'm inside cooling off. I set up a makeshift bench outside, literally a saw horse and a metalworking vice clamped to it to hold my saw table. then I took my designs for the headstock inlays and, well confession first, I nearly flamingo'd up (like a pink torpedo up only bigger!) with the name as my written Welsh isn't that good but basically "the dragon" is "Y Ddraig" and plain "Dragon" is "Draig" so disaster averted. So I took my design and with a sharp scalpel cut out some of the sections and glued them with Titebond to a Mother of Pearl blank then cut them out, each time I cut a piece I turned it upside down and glued it to a mirror image of the design so it can then be transferred to the headstock. I'm sure you all get the drift and after 4 hours sawing and filing I ended up with one dragon ready for inlaying into a headstock. Not sure if I want to do the other tomorrow or do one of the Draig inlays for which I have some lovely dark green Abalone

  23. So it will - but I find I get more control over mids from the amp, particularly one with low and high mid controls - or better yet, a parametric or semi-parametric mid control. But it's whatever floats your boat, obviously.

  25. For your budget, secondhand... Head: Peavey Firebass 700 + Tech 21 Sansamp Bass Driver or Line 6 Lowdown HD750 Cab: x2 Peavey 410 tvx or Peavey 810 tvx It's heavy gear, but super reliable, super loud and you should be able to get either option for under 400 notes.

  26. My last fling. Absolutely excellent and beautiful condition, balanced warm tone. Weight 4.3kg. I’ve left the mirror scratchplate on, simple to put the original back. 28. Rather that than what Martin Guitars did a few years ago. Did a signature guitar for someone who might have been famous in the popular music world but wasn’t actually known as a guitar player or performer of any sort (he did some keys and arrangements for an obscure band you’ve probably never heard of)... Step forward the Martin Guitars George Martin signature acoustic gutiar...

  29. Just going back to the OP, how does one quantify 'aren't well known'? The motorbike remark was pretty succinct as the marques have disappeared apart from an enthusiast perspective. A few of the names mentioned (Vintage, Tanglewood) are produced in huge numbers aren't they? I love when I gig when I pull a Hamer or a Lull out of it's case. Hardly anyone I've knows these names...I played a place in Kent once and took my £3k Hamer FBIV, I delighted in overhearing this exchange: 'What bass is that bloke playing?' 'It's a Thunderbird thing. It says Hammer on the head.' 'No, look. Hamer. H-A-M-E-R. Sounds like a Chinese guitar. My friend has an Epiphone. It's like that.' Much chortling.

  30. There's an ABCD trib act. And a Bon Jovial Dread Zeppelin are real as stated earlier and i have their first album, and it's a killer. If you haven't seen or heard them, the singer , Tortelvis , dresses and sings like... well , you know. They cover mostly LZ tracks but done reggae style. Weird and brillliant This cracks me up..

  31. Not necessarily, a mate of mine has a Behringer amp head, not sure which one, and through the matching 410 cab it was plenty loud enough, and sounded great with it. Which Hartke 410 is it that you use - that may be a factor on this.

  32. They're not what you'd call the perfect modding platform with their proprietary pickups and bridge so I'd go with chris_b and get another bass. The pickups and electronics are what make it a G&L so if you change those you'd killing your resale value. If it's just a noise issue have it looked at by a tech. It'll be something simple. Beyond strings and tuners (which I'd only change if they didn't hold tune or were too heavy) I'd leave it well alone.

  33. It's been something of a struggle getting all of the band in the same place at the same time in recent months, what with work, family, etc., etc., but we've finally managed to pin everyone down and restart regular rehearsals (woohoo!). The rehearsal room also has a recording studio, so we booked a recording session & finally laid down the 4 original songs we've been working on to "tape". The engineer sent us copies of the raw mixes of the songs, and I have to say that they sound seriously good, and should sound excellent after mixing. We're in next week to get a better vocal take, some guitar overdubs, depending on the time another bass take on 1 song, then start mixing. When that's done, it's a case of touting it around to get some gigs. Feeling very enthused about the band just now, big grins all round! :)
