  1. ACG Standard J Type 4 For sale is this rather lovely (IMHO, YMMV etc.) ACG version of the classic Jazz bass, the pickups are closer to the 70s position. Don't be fooled by the modest wood choice and appearance, this is a cracking Jazz bass that I thought that I'd never sell but as I'm moving to more and more fretless playing to help with some hand/wrist issues it will have to go. The bass started life with the SEQ preamp, but after a couple of years I thought I'd go fully passive with a 4-way coil switch, so now you have the following options on top of the volume and tone knobs: Bridge p/up only; both p/ups in parallel; both p/ups in series (particularly awesome); neck p/up only. The bass weighs in at 3.6kgs (or 8lbs in old money) so very easy to use for long gigs. It’s in great condition and will come with a good quality gig bag. Very competitively priced at £895 please. Spec Strings/Scale: 4 34” Body core: White Limba with light amber/vintage stain Neck woods: 3 piece Ash with carbon rods and asymmetric profile F/B wood: Rosewood Radius: Flat Side dots: White (might be aluminium but can't remember) Bridge: Hipshot Type B black Tuning machines: Gotoh GB720 black Pickups: ACG Over-wound SB single coil Electronics: Passive plus – Vol/Tone/4-position coil switch I would be happy to deliver within a reasonable radius of home alternatively happy to meet somewhere approximately half way if you prefer for a contribution to fuel costs. A courier remains the last resort. I work from home most days so can accommodate most collection options. I would leave it to you to organise your preferred courier. There are some pics to follow below. Please let me know if you’d like to see any other details.

  4. Fender American Standard Jazz Bass 2013 with Fender hard case. I purchased this beautiful bass new in 2015. It is a superb recording and gigging bass and the only reason for selling it is to get a short scale bass. (Hands are not what they used to be). It has been well looked after and has the usual scratches that a working bass would have but nothing serious by any means. The maple fretboard is easy to play. I currently have flat wounds on it but I can change them to roundwounds and set it up. I have changed the pick guard to a black Fender pick guard and can supply the original white pick guard that was already on it from new. Anyone who buys this bass will be more than happy with it I'm sure.

  6. I used to have a bass that I put a Seymour Duncan pickup in. I sold the bass but kept the Seymour Duncan. Can anyone identify the bass from a picture of the SD pickup? I don't have a picture of the pickup BTW.

  8. Like most here I've had many Fenders and Fender like basses but failed to some degree to get on with them. I like a wide nut so Jazz necks fail to inspire me but I do like a J pickup sound especially when an active pre is involved. P basses are my favourite, simple, passive and with a good size nut. Unfortunately again I've never quite found the 'perfect' bass. I usually get bored and sell them on. Over the past 3 years I have been using a pimped Jack Casady with Mama pickup and simplified wiring, just a tone and volume. Strung with Rotosound Flats. This has been my only bass for playing chilled laid back cover stuff. Over the past 3 months I've been on the look out for a second bass looking at P, J and everything in-between. Last week I took the plunge on an Ashdown Arc thinking if I don't like it I can send it back. Well... I was not expecting the bass that came. Build quality is up there with the best. Ive searched all over the bass for imperfections or quality control issues. There are none. It's light weight body is perfectly shaped with a neck that plays wonderful for me. It's the perfect dimension for my playing style. Pickups sound as there should... Like a P bass and I have no inclination to swap them out. Tone and volume controls have some resistance and provide a positive response when turned. I hate loose knobs. I've put on Rotosound 45s which really suit this bass. Action is 1.5mm at the 17th fret. Nice and low for my soft playing style. As you can tell I'm impressed...👍

  9. Here is my lovely 1991 Samick factory Jazz bass in lovely aged Oly White. It's more cream than white and the pictures don't really capture the colour because of the flash. The bass is in excellent condition for an instrument that is 31 years old. It has the usual light lacquer cracks near the neck pocket but this is only the paint and my camera couldn't show it. This is a lovely aged Korean bass. I love them and have 5 in total. The quality is amazing. 1991 MIK Samick factory Aged Olympic White CTS pots, Orange Drop Cap, Switchraft jack socket. Shaller machine heads Hand made by MD guitars Tortie scratch plate. 4kg on my bathroom scales so not too heavy. This bass looks, sounds and plays really well. The USA electrics do an amazing job and the original pups sound huge. It looks great, balances well on a strap and is an excellent example of a Jazz bass. You are more than welcome to come and try it out. Alternatively I'm happy to courier this at the buyers expense. I don't want any trades thank you. I'm thinning out again. I would like £275 for it please. Thanks for looking. Mike

  12. Well…it’s being sat unused: I’ve said I wouldn’t but, trying to rationalise gear with a possible house move etc…if it’s not used, it’s gone. Beauty. Hiscox hardcase included. 1986 - Japanese. Basically what the 2024 was a reissue of, top end passive p/j. listen to ‘tragic kingdom’ and ‘no doubt’ by no doubt. Have listed at £900 with hard case - and that’s the only way I’ll ship it. I have a soft case if you want to collect, and that will make it £850. shipping in UK will be £25 uninsured or whatever your preferred courier will charge you to send insured. Anything Musicman USA considered in trade. Ace bass: will come with lots of parts for BB basses. Will take more pics tomorrow. £950 trade value £900 straight sale with hardcase (plus shipping if required)

  13. Ibanez EHB (Electric Headless Bass) 1005 (5 string) SMS (Short Multi Scale) in Emerald metallic green. Condition is generally excellent, with a small knock to the 'head' and a couple of scratches from cutting strings. Currently strung with a set of Rotosound flats which have a great tension at standard tuning. I've replaced the plastic control knobs with some Thomann black/gold metal ones, but the plastic ones are included. The standard gig bag and Schaller S-Lock strap locks are also included. Currently fitted with a set of Aguilar DCB (dual ceramic bar humbuckers) wired into the standard Ibanez preamp with the +6dB boost. The price (£850) includes the Aguilar DCBs, but I'm happy to reinstall the standard Bartolini BH2s (included) and keep the DCBs (£725). I'm also happy to change it back to standard preamp levels which means the active/passive volume levels match. See my initial review here for more details: basschat.co.uk I'd rather arrange collection (Maidstone, Kent) or meetup (am happy to drive a reasonable distance) - always easier I think, but I do still have the original box so delivery wouldn't be impossible. Pictures are always nicer than my dry writing - see the metallic sparkle in the lovely sun!

  14. YAMAHA TRB JP1 90s Amber Burst SOLD This is the original John Patitucci signature bass. Active EQ with mid cut/boost. This bass is around 20 years old and has been well played, so there are some scratches that i've tried my best to capture in the photos. They're not really noticeable from a distance. There is slight wear to the frets, i'd say they're about 90% remaining. Any questions I will try my best to answer.

  15. Well I'm going to add another bass to my very short never sell list (along with my old P Bass). It's my 4003S, which I've not had too long but the circumstances in which I purchased it are very special to me and having spent the weekend playing it learning some new songs it's sublime. I changed the original white plastic for black and I've strung it with TI Roundwounds, so it's not quite stock. It plays beautifully and has that gorgeous "fizzy" Ric sound. I've got nine basses in total and this is one of only two I'll never part with, alongside my Martin D-18

  17. For sale my HandBox RedFighter Bass Amplifier with a 2x 500Watt Power Section or 1000Watt Bridged UK Sale only This amp has a very nice valve preamp and a Mos-Fet output stage which is setup to deliver a detailed quality fat bass sound I bought this amp because I read the hype about them and went ahead and ordered it It arrived I was blown away by how good this amp sounds the sound is very detailed fat but balanced This amp has some lovely features it will allow you to split the frequencies between the 2 amplifiers so for example you could run 2x 15 to deal with the deep frequencies and 2x 10s to deal with the mid and highs you can set which frequencies you want each amp to cover there is 3 filters per amp works like a crossover

  19. Selling my 2006 Euro 435 LX as I have 3 Spectors and I'm raising funds to try something else. There are a few small dings on the body, which I've tried to picture, but she plays and sounds beautifully. The 35" scale length is a joy to play, even in standard tuning. I wasn't happy with the non trim Tonepump that came with it so I installed the EMG BQC preamp and the difference was night and day. It still has that Spector growl but with complete control over the mids. I also installed a battery compartment on the control plate to make batter changes super quick. Comes with a Spector padded bag. Collection or meetup is preferred, but I can post for £25. I'm willing to drive an hour or so to meet up, and I have a few drivers that work for me that travel to various places. If I courier it, I will professionally package it and send insured. I'm looking for an ESP Phoenix or maybe a Mockingbird... something Thunderbird like but with a wider nut, so let me know if you have anything you'd like to trade.

  22. Just found this thread after a long time off the site so I thought I'd share my pair of Ibanez basses, my long serving SR600 and my much more recent EHB1505ms. Having never played a multi-scale before I was a bit apprehensive about the EHB but I adjusted almost instantly and its slight shorter scale of 35"-33" suited me perfectly!

  25. Someone posted this on p7 of the TB thread. Matches Brother Bubba's description perfectly, even down to the uncontoured slab body. Neck construction & trc shape tell me this is a mid/late 70s Korean cheapo. These 8-pole pickups turn up on some MIK basses, they're either licensed Maxons or copies - most likely licensed, based on the close links between the Japanese & Korean industries at the time. The main difference between these & the MIJ units is that they are very hot, typically 11-12k, as opposed to the 6 or 7 the branded Maxons read. So no, I don't think it's a wind-up, Bubba's just a bit, erm, confused and needy.

  33. So after several years i've looking and just missing out, this is exactly what has happened. I was browsing eBay new listings Friday PM, scroll scroll boring boring.... scroll..... OMG 🥴 Contacted the seller and we made a good deal, i'm very happy with the price. The irony is that not a a couple of hours earlier i'd broke my challenge accidentally winning a local Vintage VJ74 on eBay, which I had no intention of winning but put in such a low price I wasn't worried, yet it's here now. It's actually pretty decent, not sure what i'm going to do with it yet, though. The Myung is expected Tue/Wed.

  37. Just trying to figure out how you can maximise your system. Being analogue with only 2 auxes, you are quite limited in terms of what you can do IEM wise. You've probably figured out that you can only have two mono mixes - or one stereo IEM (albeit a bit difficult to set up due to there being two gains as opposed to two gains and a pan for each channel sending to that pseudo stereo aux bus). You are pretty much at the limits of your system unless you change your desk. Ideally, if you change your desk, you'd get access to EQ on a stereo bus, with compressor. Being able to roll off the bottom end is would tighten up your mix for sure. Upgrading your IEMs are always a good move (if you are keen about this, invest in good customs). Wireless/Wireless - stick with wired unless you can get a good wireless system. XVive will do you OK with an analogue desk - but obviously are limited to mono. Being able to run stereo IEMs is a MASSIVE upgrade. So if you are looking at spending money, don't go down the high latency, mono route if ultimately you are going to have a digital desk and want to run stereo IEMs (unless you are prepared to lose the money on the XVives) In order for your band to sound better in smaller venues, it's best to get everybody on IEMs and drop those volumes. In order to do that, you'll want everybody to be on IEMs and not on a shared mix. So if you wanted my "next steps" thing, it's to get everybody to buy into the IEM route and get the desk upgraded to something digitial with more auxes. You'll have access to much much better DSP - giving you a lot more scope for notching out reverb, more options in terms of compression and fx... and of course, the opportunity to mix everything remotely. Get talking to your band mates!

  38. Hi Many thanks, in the first step if was for cosmetics the differnt types of materials for the intonation tubes & the EVO Cams, but after having done somne sound test on my fretless bass there are slighly different tones. SS & SS have a more direct hard sound, the other combinations sounds more softer ...

  42. I'll just jump in to say I had a HB Jazz also 4 or 5 years ago and that was quite weighty too. Unsure as to why you'd want to spray yours with nitro, it will still be a HB underneath and you could just celebrate it stock unless it is cosmetically flawed, but then it becomes roadworn!

  44. Well imo, you don’t know if your going to get on with a bass until you live with it for a while, if you buy or trade sensibly you can always move it on without too much if any loss , if you don’t try you’ll never know 🙂

  45. Not really because the person selling it in spain (for instance) is not responsible for the costs of VAT and import duty of every non EU country in the world, which are all different. Unfortunately now we have removed ourself from the customs union that includes us, so our choices are reduced (in many things). THey just have to list where they are (the EU) and how much they are selling it for. It is the responsibilty for someone outside the EU to work out what their local customs and VAT charges are, because they are not fees they are getting. And if you find something from somewhere else is too expensive, the best option is to not get it. Sadly (or maybe luckily) there were a few basses I have seen that I would have bought a few years ago before we left but now with charges they are too much.
