Well this one was sudden and unexpected. 😄 A Yamaha Attitude Ltd 2 came up for sale four miles away for a very good price. While not particularly looking for one, I've always fancied trying one. My first 'proper' bass was a surf green Attitude Special (P pickup and woofer but single output and only basic P/Us) so I've always had a soft spot for them, and Yamaha in particular. The bass was in the original case with all the candy for £875 so it had to come home with me. The seller had the EBS Billy Sheehan drive pedal (purple one) and a Boss LS2 pedal, both boxed, along with power supply and patch leads which they threw in for an extra £75. Deal done!! It's a 2012 and has been well gigged, being her number one bass, but has been well looked after. It has one tiny chip on the lower horn and lots of faint swirl scratches all over, but no real digs. Hardware and frets are great and both front and back of neck are in fantastic condition, although the bridge seems to have a funny wear patch, but it might be grime that will polish off, there is plenty on DNA around the bridge area. It will be getting a proper clean and polish. The swirls should all polish out and I'll probably touch the chip in with 2k paint and flat and polish it so it's invisible. It's really nice to play but has a big, big neck, although it's a relatively shallow so doesn't feel too cumbersome. It does make other basses feel a bit toy like when you swap back though. The tone is immense, the P pickup is wired straight to the jack via a volume so is bright and punchy and you tame it by adding in some of the woofer. Well that's what I've been doing for the mo. The neck woofer is still very bright and articulate with the tone up but pumps out almost sub bass tones if wanted. Blended together they are just massive sounding and I'd imagine would cut through any mix. Never again will I roll my eyes at a Les Paul wielding guitarist with a Marshall stack, bring it on wimp!! Picture time!! Lots of nicks in the case unfortunately, but hey, that's what it's for. The only chip. The mark/grime. Swirls (hard to photograph). Not too many headstock chips considering nearly ten years worth of gigging. Between frets 3 and 5, usually the most wear but barely anything at all. The front and rear of neck is mark free. Even the pedals are virtually mark free. Time to give it a really good clean and polish now.19 points

One thing that's common to copyright laws in different countries is that if a copyright holder knowingly fails to act on a copyright infringement then a subsequent infringer (?) can use this as precedent to demonstrate that the copyright holder does not defend copyright, ergo there's a loophole for full-on bootleggers to exploit. You can't pick and choose which copyright infringements to go after. You have to go after them all. Hence the steady stream of stories about mega-artists supposedly dumping on poor, wee, helpless individuals such as The German Widow. Now, lawyers who have been instructed to deal with copyright infringements and bootleggers usually take a softer line with private individuals who have got into a muddle unless that individual kicks up and starts briefing lawyers themselves. At which point it all goes to sh_t as it has in this case and probably rightly so. That's all entirely separate from the fact that Clapton is a man with a bus-load of demons on his back. I read his autobiography and his life comes across as having been a series of hideous disasters set in a grey wasteland. That's not to excuse his silly outbursts but it helps to explain them. Maybe even enough to feel a bit sorry for him. Anyhow, I'm fairly sure that most of us here would look dimly upon an audience member recording our performances and selling those recordings online or outside outside our gigs. We might even take some form of action about it and at that point we'd be doing exactly the same thingas Clapton, the only difference being we're mostly none of us famous enough for random people on interweb forums to w4nk themselves into a self-righteous frenzy about us.14 points

Dreadful light today so no good doing the 'finished pics' but, cosmetically, it's done. Still got all the set up stuff to do and I need a tweak (or the OK to do it myself) from Marc at Mojo to get the phasing right for the 'both' pickups (they are braided earth, single conductor and so not as simple as swopping the wires round...it needs one of the magnets flipping). Individually, by the way, the pickups sound GREAT!!! So we'll have to wait for a 'not having to have all the house lights on in the middle of the day' break in the cloud before the arty farty shots but here's a couple of poor light shots to be going on with :11 points

A NBD of a sort. After searching high and low for a decent late eighties fretless ray and failing miserably in my quest, I've had the fretboard replaced on one my late eighties Stingrays. A fretless ray (in my head at least) isn't rosewood or pao ferro, it's ebony; so I went for a dark (old stock) ebony with partial lines on the edge. It's been 100% successful; this is easily the perfect fretless for me and a staggeringly good bass. The ebony and the two band gives you that Levin 'ping' with the treble up, and crafty tweaking of the bass vs treble on the 2 band EQ brings out the bark in the ebony to give a passable Karn-esque honk. It also does that languorous mwah like no other fretless I've owned. That singing, Pino style is there on tap. Playability is 10/10 with the late 80s ray neck profile and world class, exquisite work from the Bass Gallery, who are the best. And it weighs 9lbs! Ahhhhh... Quick pics!9 points

This is the last of my big boy basses to be put up for sale. Unfortunately, arthritis in my left hand is forcing me to go short scale, otherwise I would definitely be holding on to this beautiful instrument. The full spec can be found here on the Ibanez site, although they are no longer selling the walnut version, so bear in mind that the body wood is Walnut and the fretboard is ebony.https://www.ibanez.com/usa/products/model/afr/ To summarise it is a boutique design bass by the late Rolf Spuler. Mine is the recent reissue, rather than the 90s version. It must have one of the most ergonomically designed bodies on the market. It is super comfortable to play either standing or sitting and lightweight, so you can do really long sets with it. The neck is super comfortable to play despite its width, being a really great shallow shape. It has a US Bartolini jazz pickup and the amazing AeroSilk piezo bridge, with individual saddles. There is a two band active preamp for the jazz pickup (stacked eq) and a single tone and volume preamp for the AeroSilk system. It has a set half neck through design, with two carbon reinforcement rods in addition to the truss rod. The machine heads are arranged to give pretty well straight string pull. You can get an impressive variety of sounds out of the two pickups by blending or soloing them. The piezo puts out a pretty convincing acoustic sound and can be made to sound pretty double bass like with the right eq. Through an acoustic preamp like the Zoom AC-2, or TCE Bodyrez it gets very close to an upright. I have used the +6 db boost trick on the preamp, whereby you drop the jazz pickup down away from the strings and move its connector to the connector labelled +6db. This gives a fatter more mellow sound than the original setup that is more appropriate for slap playing. It is easy to reverse this: just raise the pickup and reconnect to the +0db connector. Together the pickups can give you quite an aggressive growl, or a really mellow woody sound. No modifications at all, apart from Schaller strap lock buttons and I have restrung it with 50-135 standard medium gauge D’Addarios, as opposed to the hybrid light top/medium bottom it comes with. Condition wise I would say it is close to excellent. There are a few light scratches that I have tried to photograph. One of these is by the neck joint. At first I thought it might be a small crack but if it is, it is very minor. However I have reflected this in the price. The bass is in Ibanez’ Premium range, so comes with a fitted, plush lined case and an amazing multi-tool that I will, of course, include. You are very welcome to try and buy in Fakenham, Norfolk. I will drive around 50 miles, or so to meet/deliver. I have the original box and p&p is now included in the price. I paid the best part of £1,400 for this, so get yourself a boutique bass for the price of a MIM Fender. Surely a bargain at my asking price: now £750. It is priced to sell quickly but of course, I will listen to close offers. I would consider a trade for a short scale bass 4, or 5 string from Sandberg, or Maruszczyk, with cash adjustment as appropriate. This is no longer on fleaBay: just seem to be a bunch of tyre kickers and chancers on there. Also they now automatically realist your item 7 times, which might be fine if it is a basic auction but I had a reserve that was costing me £30 a pop and they don’t ask you if you want to repost. Continuing in my quest to free up funds and space for the next must have purchase, up for sale is my Status Energy Artist 5 string fretted. I got this in a trade deal some time ago and was pleasantly surprised at what a nice bass this is. I don’t really know what the body woods are but it plays and sounds fantastic with a lovely low action and slim comfortable neck. It’s has active electronics with a 2 band eq, blend and volume controls. Some minor marks and playing wear but overall in super condition. Weighs in at 9.5 lbs Truss rod and all hardware in perfect working order. Collection from Swindon preferred but willing to travel a reasonable distance/meet halfway , possibly over the holiday period6 points -
You know how it is when you see an instrument you really want but you can’t justify the expense or indeed find the space to put it if you do acquire said instrument? Well in an attempt to address the above, I have decided to offer a couple of basses for sale. First up is my Status Electro 2 5 string fretted. These are quite rare now, semi acoustic with a piezo bridge and a magnetic pickup. This one has a John East preamp fitted (volume, blend, bass, table and para/mid) giving an extremely wide tonal palette. Beautiful quilted maple top over a mahogany body with a rosewood board. The bass is fitted with Labella Clear Wrap nylon strings. Weight 8lb3oz Some very minor playing marks but overall excellent condition. Lovely flat neck and truss rod in fully working order. 48mm nut width, 17mm string spacing at bridge. Bass is located in Swindon, willing to travel a reasonable distance to meet up, postage to UK mainland now an option5 points -

My Ray fretless from 93 has a neck virtually the same as that (sans skunk stripe) - you are right, most Rays up to 2002 or so have figured maple necks - in fact the Classic series basses were based on the late 80s spec largely AIUI. Whilst we’re talking fretless Rays here’s my 93 - snapped up off EBay around 12 yrs ago for £751!!5 points

An injunction was filed and the court found in Clapton’s favour. 3. The woman appealed, stating that her late husband bought the disc in 1987 at a popular German department store, but lost. The judge said it was irrelevant that she did not buy the CD herself. 4. Team C - “Costs are usually minimal unless the case is argued in court, which is what happened here as the lady instructed her own lawyers. Now that the full facts of this particular case have come to light, the intention is that the formal German proceedings will not be pursued any further.” 5. The woman’s lawyer told Bild [a best selling German newspaper - wonder how much she's getting paid for that?] that they intended to appeal again. I have zero sympathy for anyone's anti-vax or racist views. But, seriously, this woman and her legal team are a bunch of ambulance chasers.5 points

As a Beatles fan this was fascinating to watch. Four guys from the biggest band in the world casually sitting around in a circle on wooden chairs, pulling some great songs out of thin air whilst fuelled by toast, the occasional beer and hundreds of cigarettes. Having played in many bands I thought the band politics were highly relatable. Seems whether you’re tiny or massive there’s always that tension over what and not to play and where and when to play it. Paul’s driving the band in the absence of Brian Epstein. John’s wondering if there’s more to life than being a Beatle. George wants more recognition for his songs and input. Ringo is the patient, reliable drummer who arrives on time and always knows just what to play on the track. Give it a watch if you have the time to spare, there’s some real gems in there despite it’s long run time.4 points

And so to the humble cabinet scraper. Even though they are very cheap, the cabinet/card scraper is one of the tools that would be on my 'if you only had one hand tool' list. The burr that is along the edge turns it from a dust generator to a wood plane and, from quite early on for a neck carve, I move to this for the controllability (because, let's face it, you don't want to take too much off on a neck carve! ) Here you can see that what is coming off is a proper shaving: But yes - it's slow, and particularly with a timber as hard as rock maple. But nevertheless, after an hour it's starting to get there: It's not often you get the chance to do a side by side profile comparison - this is at the 1st and you can see that the shape of the curve is starting to get there (The one on the right is the Lull) : But, for example, at the 10th you can see that the new one is still a little flat-topped and steep sided on the one side. Doesn't look a lot, but that represents a lot more scraping still to go4 points

Right so I got the cab yesterday just in time for my bands last show of the year so perfect timing! I'll do a more in depth review in the new year once I've had a chance to do some A/B work with my old cab. Overall I'm impressed! I have a very overdriven tone, but I found the cab to have very punchy mids, and a tight bass response, even when using my bass tuned to Drop B. The highs sung through beautifully, which is something that was missing from my Matamp 610 as they always came through sounding a bit harsh. After playing around with the compression driver I've elected to have it on full, it seemed to lose some bite for me when it was either on half or off, but I'm sure off will suit people who have a less aggressive tone than myself. The only negative I can find is that it really exposes my Digitech Drop pedal. With the Matamp you could tell when it was in use (drop C# to drop B) but it was negligible and once in the mix you could hardly tell at all. With the Laney its night and day when its in use, its just muddy. So the space I'm saving with the smaller cab will be taken up by having to take my 2nd bass. Oh well 🤷♂️ During the show it held up great, sitting in the mix and not getting lost. I did have to roll off the bass ever so slightly as it was a bit much, but that could have been down to the room. As for the weight/portability its great. Yes its still a little bit heavy, but its manageable. I was able to load it into my car and carry it upstairs into our practice space all on my own. For me its a good middle ground, as I prefer taller cabs, but not the weight that comes with them. If you're thinking of buying this, but unsure. IMO pull the trigger, I don't think you'll regret it. Clapton has not only been extremely vocal in his anti-vax messaging but he's also funding anti-vax band Jam for Freedom. Doesn't this winker and others like him realise that it is the unvaccinated that are clogging up covid wards. Both my sisters-in-law work at general hospitals. One is in charge of a path lab and the other is a senior nurse on an ICU. Currently, well over half the patients in the ICUs at each hospital are younger and unvaccinated. The rest are mostly vaccinated and older with major co-morbidities. So you get these covidiots refusing to get vaccinated then they go to hospital when they get covid. I know this digresses from the OP but Clapout and others make my blood boil with their dangerous anti-vax messages. Rant over.4 points

Bought this fantastic bass in December 2020 from her original owner for a special project, actually I`m a fretless player. Unfortunately this got canceled due to the C lockdown and I must sell the bass because she is now useless for me and definitely yes, I need the money. The bass was inspected and set up in December 2020 by Magnus Krempel, the luthier who build this bass for Andi Kristall. She is in good condition and everything works like it should and well. Ok, there are some battle scars, see pictures. In July I traded the bass for a 6 String and this week I traded her back. As mentioned above for sale again. Unfortunately, arthritis in my left hand is forcing me to go short scale. Consequently, I have to sell my lovely Ibanez Aerium acoustic bass. The full spec is here on the Ibanez website: https://www.ibanez.com/eu/products/detail/srh500f_1p_05.html. Please note this is for the fretless version but that apart they are the same instrument, except I am pretty sure mine has a rosewood fretboard. To summarise it is a full 34” scale, 4 string, fretted, hybrid electro-acoustic bass. I say hybrid because it has an electric bass style body that is chambered/semi-acoustic. The top is spruce and the body mahogany, with a chamfered top edge where the arm rests. It has a super fast jazz style neck. It is really light and ergonomic. The really clever stuff is in the AeroSilk piezo bridge that provides individual string saddles that adjust for intonation like an electric bridge. The volume of each string can be adjusted, so that you can get the string to string balance you want. It has a simple but effective active preamp with volume and tone controls. It is fitted with D’Addario 45-100 tape wounds and provides a low action. The colour is Dragon Eye Burst. It is in great used condition, with a few small dings in the back (pictured) and some superficial playing scratches but nothing serious. The frets have little wear and the fretboard is unmarked. The protective plastic is still on the rear plate that houses the fine adjustment screws for the pickup system. I have fitted Schaller locking strap buttons. I think it plays beautifully and sounds great. You can get a pretty convincing acoustic (upright like) tone from it, especially if you use an acoustic preamp like a Zoom AC-2, or TCE BodyRez. These don’t come with a case but I can throw in a Thomann branded gig bag. I also have the original box, so can post at buyer’s expense. You are welcome to try and buy in Fakenham, Norfolk and I will meet/deliver within 50 miles or so.3 points -
Selling this 90’s Status Eclipse 6 string bass. Very good bass for the money. In used condition as seen on the pics. Have been heavily gigged by previous owners so it have battle scars and the volume and balance knobs have a bit of worn feel (its almost 30 years old) otherwise it works nicely. All stock aside from the ramp, dunlop strap pins and added LEDs. Will come with a Status gig bag, Gruv gear fretwrap and a new set of MTD strings. £600 collected from Aylesbury. Might be able to post at buyer’s cost and risk. No trades as the only reason I am selling this is I got offered to buy back an old flame otherwise it is not going anywhere.3 points -
Well this is so much fun. I'm a simple soul and I like effects I can master in a reasonably short time. And I like them to produce a pleasing noise too. While I could probably approximate the sound of this 'micro' pedal with the other synth options at my disposal, it would be an awful lot of work. This pedal is an absolute belter with all the controls doing something simple and obvious to the sound, and it took mere seconds to find a usable setting.3 points

The Guild Starfire I Bass. Granted they're relatively new but there seems to have been very little fanfare about them compared to other basses that have been launched recently. They certainly seem to have missed the short-scale band wagon that's been gathering momentum steadily over the last year or so. For under £500 they really are excellent instruments and built to a high standard.3 points

He played the whole gig calling standards I didn't know in strange keys, sequeing every tune without stopping and oblivious to me not having a clue what was going on. So I rolled off the top and got the muddiest, most indistinct sound I could and bluffed the whole thing.3 points

Testing here if this kind of a homemade sawing jig works for the fret slots. I also got an accurate fret position template printed out on a piece of sturdy paper. If this works, I would then attach the paper template on the board and just saw through the paper. I have 4 printouts, so I would be definetly testing on some scraps first.3 points

I love what you did there! I did something similar after I bought a Fender Rascal 5 years back. Loved everything about it except the quirky body shape - not an aesthetic issue, just that the body extending so far south of the bridge put everything in the wrong place for me. I bit the bullet and had the bass re-bodied a la P Lyte with a nice piece of walnut that I already had, and that's been my go-to gig bass ever since. I loved this bass so much that I decided to have the original body re-shaped as the basis for a similar build with the amazingly versatile Rascal pickup/control configuration. All in all, most satisfying thing that's ever happened in my bass world. You just have to be ready to take that leap of faith, but that's easier said than done! All work done by my Basschat buddy Andyjr1515 with build diaries to prove it.3 points

I’ve been fortunate to have had a couple of fretless ‘Rays in my time, both Pau Ferro, one lined, the other unlined and I’m fortunate to be enjoying a fabulous Tony Franklin Precision neck on ‘78 P body bass (bitsa kinda insults it as it’s so goddam good) courtesy of a great WTB response by @eadof this parish. A ‘Ray would’ve been my first choice but, like yourself, decent fretless variants are thin on the ground. My second favourite bass sound after a 2EQ ‘Ray is a decent Precision with flats, and this delivers that in spades. The combination of Chromes and ebony fretboard is incredible, easily the most playable fretless Ive ever owned. The fretless P/Chromes combo was, of course, beloved by David J and I’m literally going to get killed by all my family if I play ‘Bela’ one more time…3 points

Agreed. I doubt very much team C would have gone straight to Court - I mean what damages could they have realistically won from someone selling a CD? Court costs would have far outstripped and they would have been aware of the bad publicity. But they wanted to protect their IP. More likely scenario: team C contacts her to withdraw the CD. She ignores their polite request and goes ahead anyway. At which point they up the ante. She loses, but local lawyers whiff fat pay day from a celebrity plus media interviews and decide to challenge the Court ruling. Haters, enjoying their echo chamber, jump on band wagon around the planet. Sound plausible?3 points

I just recently finished modding this 30" Schecter Banshee and I am really happy with how it turned out. I basically only ended up using the neck and body but they were both great quality and nice and light. It is very balanced and still light after completing it. Mods: Schaller tuners Hipshot B style brass bridge (chrome) w string through option Aguilar 4P-60 pickup Noble 250k pots with cloth wire & Sprague .1uf cap. I am having a bit of a gear clear out. Somehow I have ended up with 4 bass heads, so I am selling off the ones I think people might want to buy. This is the TC Electronic BH550 lightweight head. The full spec is here: https://www.tcelectronic.com/product.html?modelCode=P0CIN. It has some nice features for gigging including built in tuner and two of their TonePrint slots for effects. You can change the loaded effects using their free app. It also has mute switch, plus balanced DI out with pre and post switch. The mute and effects can be controlled by a three button foot switch. Pretty well any switch can be used, so you don’t have to buy their quite expensive switch. I used a Digitech switch that came with a Trio+ but I am selling that with the Trio I am afraid. I have gigged the amp once (thanks Covid!) and I think it is in close to immaculate condition. You are welcome to try and buy in Fakenham, Norfolk. I will travel around 50 miles or so to meet up, or deliver. I have the original box, so can post at buyer’s expense. No trades please.2 points -
Noting you mention the ebony, of course we all know wood makes no difference to the sound (so say some 😂 ) however you have a fine trans red Ray there, which is almost certainly on an alder body - and alder bodied Stingrays have a certain warmth and mellowness which the ash ones have less of (note this, ‘wood makes no difference naysayers’) - unless you’ve tried them back to back, you won’t know. This also reminds me that the Stingray fretless is one of the best fretless instruments which used to be available - and occasionally is in limited numbers from the factory. I still love mine and go all fretless every so often! Fabulous bass you have there, and the neck job looks excellent.2 points
