  2. I think I've redeemed myself. Start again then... Made a better jig which actually works the correct way round... First cuts... And then changed the jig to do the short sides, et voilà That's more like it! Crappy first attempt above for comparison. Then I guess when you write on it with a Sharpie, it becomes official... The only thing I have to consider is that my top bearing router bit is a bit fat for the corners of the pickup (it's OK for the mounting lugs), had to cut them out after the fact on the template, so going to have to figure out how to solve that. But progress is progress, and I'm much happier with this second attempt at the template. One final piece of paranoia - I checked that the neck fits when the pickup is mounted - it has a 21st fret overhang... Phew! That is approximately where the neck pickup of a Peavey T-40 goes with regard to scale length.

  4. This bass started life as a Gherson Jazz bass that I bought off @Bass Wielder here last year I have had the neck completely refretted and levelled as there was some buzzing up at the dusty end Rerouted for new Toltec Jazz pickups, ring around the bridge pickup is to hide the previous rout as the original pickups were an odd ball size New Pickguard added and the original pots used Tuners also changed out Schaller bridge fitted Weight is 4.6 Kg's The body is just a lovely, pickups are lively and loud Asking price is about half what it cost me in total to put togeather but the result is great IMHO I will include free delivery to UK addresses

  5. The MIJ Fender Jazz Bass 1996/97 in Daphne Blue has bass has been modified with Lindy Fralin pickups - which sound amazing and the control plate has been changed to the concentric style. Currently strung with Thomastik flats, this bass is awesome and am only selling as I’ve recently completed a custom build. price includes shipping to the UK.

  9. I don't like painted necks. I get uncomfortable with non matching brands on amps and cabs. Basses with a matching headstock sound better than ones without Nobody likes bass solos (well... nobody likes mine. Especially not me) Any bass that's been refinished must be good because somone kept it and repainted it rather than sell it and buy a similar one a different colour Vintage basses that don't show much wear are probably not great since nobody wanted to play them a lot

  10. Here is my fender Mex P which i purchased brand new in 2021,it's in excellent condition and it's only been played at home. I never really took to the neck to be fair,i'm more of a Jazz bass neck fan. Anyway it's not being given the playing justice it deserves so i'm moving it on to someone who'll actually play this lovely Bass. I upgraded the Pickup in 2022 to Fender pure Vintage 63 ones. I also changed the pickguard to the tort one seen here. I STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL P/UP FOR THE ABOVE WHICH CAN NOW BE ADDED FOR £45 REDUCED FROM £60 IF REQUIRED. I have added the Fender specs for clarity also. The guitar can be played and inspected and picked up at my home address in Derbyshire So it is COLLECTION ONLY on this one. So it's time to treat yourself. This is a CASH ONLY SALE payable at the point of collection. The original white scratch plate is available at no extra cost if required.

  12. My hatred of baked beans is not irrational. They deserve all the hatred I can muster. The vile taste, the vile texture. The revolting sauce they are in. They alone are reason enough for humanity to end. Anyone and everyone who had any involvement in them being not only available for sale, but actually grown and harvested at all should be propelled straight into the sun. Oh, you mean bass related? Tube amps on bass are completely pointless. Outdated, unreliable, too heavy, fragile, pointless. Once good transistor amps were available they should have been banned. Anyone and everyone who had any involvement in them still existing after good transistor amps were available should be propelled straight into the sun.

  13. Gallien krueger neo 212 8 ohm. Still pretty smart overall but not perfect; given me great service over the last 5 years. Includes Roqsolid fitted cover and a spare used gk neo 12 16 ohm driver in serviceable condition. I've used it at small venues all the way up to supporting bands as varied as Focus and The Lighting Seeds. No rational reason for selling but my BC 1x12 will suffice in a lean period for gigs. Struggling to add pics, hopefully can add in posts to follow. UK sale only. Can meet up within reason on the motorway. Thanks Martin

  14. So apart from a HVAC filter that is still to be delivered, the spray booth is finished. Constructed from 18mm MDF with plans generated by ChatGPT, an adapted dj light stand for a jig, a used hydroponics extractor fan off eBay and a Mr Bezos led batten light. The duct tape is not holding it together but just some extra sealing on the panel joints as well as glue and screws. The baffle protecting the extractor filter from overspray just slides out so I can change the filter easily. I am hoping that this will make spraying easier, quicker and yield better results. I will look to support the hoses better so reduce the angles at the extractor fan and improve airflow. I was also not worried about the interior look as it will soon be covered in paint lol. I just need something to spray now……..

  16. Selling my stunning, rare original Godin hollowbody fretless, as it does not get enough use these days and unfortunately, I need the money to finance another purchase. These basses were handcrafted in Canada, and this is the original Acoustibass version with LR Baggs pre-amp, and a clever 12 time metal harp system attached below the bridge that resonates in sympathy with the top. This creates a complex and rich tone and makes it the closest thing to an actual double bass. These basses are far superior to the later A4 and A5 basses from the same manufacturer. It features a single-piece chambered, black, mahogany body, with aged white binding, gold tuners, a solid spruce top, hard maple neck, and an ebony unlined fingerboard. The piezo pickup is boosted by the LR Baggs preamp, that features volume control and a 3-band equalizer. The preamp is powered by a 9 volt battery. A fresh battery can be installed by unscrewing and lifting the cover of the amp. Note that if the battery is drained, the bass does not have a passive fallback option, and it will provide no output to your amp. This copy is from 1991. I verified the serial number with Godin to confirm. I bought this bass in the Netherlands (sticker on headstock), as I am Dutch, and brought it with me to Wales. Is is in fantastic condition. There are 2 or 3 very minor spots near the pre-amp, which I struggled to photograph. You would not notice them unless you looked for it. Other than that the bass is immaculate. It has been professionally serviced last in 2022. At that point the jack socket was replaced by a superior product (the original had deteriorated and drained the battery even when not plugged in), the electrolytic capacitors in the pre-amp were replaced, all amp sliders were cleaned and treated, and finally the fingerboard was sanded and oiled. It is currently fitted with flatwounds, with a nice low action and no string buzz. It comes with its original hard case. The case tolex shows some signs of wear (see pictures), but the case itself is in great condition and the bass fits snug and safe. You can hear this actual bass on recordings that I played on, for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKkZ4MSWmB4&list=RDGKkZ4MSWmB4&start_radio=1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZtZ1gu0uHs&list=RDkZtZ1gu0uHs&start_radio=1 and most recently https://walsaurus.bandcamp.com/track/time-has-told-me Ideally, I’d like the buyer to collect in Mid-Wales (you can try out the bass), or meet up within reasonable distance. Alternatively, I can ship within the UK as well at the buyer’s cost.

  18. Found an old plank in the shed to practice on. Also found a potential solution for the corners - got a 1/4" cutter, if I poke it far enough out of the collet then there will hopefully be enough shaft (stop sniggering at the back, you!) poking down below the baseplate of the router then it should not cut into the template but follow it as if it had a bearing. Dunno if the radius will be small enough, but it'll be closer than the 1/2" cutter I'll be using for the initial routing. That's tomorrow's fun though - got a band rehearsal now.

  20. Maple fretboards and painted headstocks should never have happened. If the headstock is painted, it should be a dark wood fretboard. Ramps make your bass look bad. I don't care how they might help your plucking position. Work it out another way.

  22. Our drummer evaporated after last week's rehearsal due to back issues. We have a new one on board for the originals as of last night. A bit more oomph but not too loud. Interestingly we started with a song that has an awkward stop with a five-beat bar. This used to cause the previous drummer to slow down, the new chap was rushing it. I took my Epiphone Embassy, I think I've found the right bass for this band. It has a growly sound but the blend and tone controls are effective. Not loud last night but even the singer described my sound as having 'girth'. Working on originals is fascinating. I had two competing basslines for the next song, the one originally on fretless is now the chorus. The chords don't change but what we all play changes. my line is a harmony line up an octave and not following the roots. I've also come up with a really unusual intro. We finished with a third song that demands a JJ Burnell style plectrum line, with some jagged rhythm and lots of clanky growl. Working on this one is improving my plectrum skills. Very different from sitting alone learning songs then just getting together to polish arrangements.

  24. I actually had a blinding one. I’ve got a job interview tomorrow and the stress is getting to me. Partner and I decided that I needed to get out tonight so I went to the engineers arm in coalvile for OM night. @Nail Soup has visited. When I got there I explained to the hostess that I wasn’t sure if I was getting up but she gently pushed me into sweet home Alabama with her and another guitarist which went quite well, she then decided to do Dreams which went better than I thought it would as I’ve only ever played along to YouTube on both tunes I was just taking bass off when the next performer came up and asked the guitarist to stay instead of using a backing track. She then asked me to Stay on as well and do a song I don’t even know. When id stopped hyper-ventilating the guitarist gave me the chords and said “just wing it,they are all so pissed they won’t know”. So I did … Teenage dirt bag (another first: I used my five string properly and started on fret 5 to get the E, I’m starting to avoid open strings) sire v7 5 string sold to me by some serial rogue called @lee650 And a zoom b2 on ampeg patch shoes ? Brown. Next. That is all I know

  25. thanks mate, it works very well for the function gigs that I do. We are ampless and most of the time I bring 2 basses (fretted/fretless) or a bass and a synthbass so the switcher is so handy. 3 out of 4 gigs this board will be my choice. this one takes care of the 1 out of 4. Sounds very nice but heavy and a bit risky for beer spills. 😆

  27. Together with some of my main band musicians, plus a great pro-drummer, I helped to put together a U2 tribute band as a little side-project earlier this year. There are no huge plans to gig loads but the two nights out we've had so far were lots of fun and we have a few more things lined up. My regular gigging bass is my trusty white Ritter Cora but I felt i should go dfor something a bit more Claytonesque for this gig. I've owned a couple of Claytons in the past, both in gold sparkle. The first was a lovely, lightweight Mike Lull that was built directly for Adam & the second was the official Fender full Custom Shop version - now residing chez @hiram.k.hackenbacker. I already had a nice Lake Placid Blue P bass with an aged MJT body, mint green/white guard, McIntyre neck, Hipshot Ultralights and a lovely set of custom wound Curtis Novak pickups. My first thought was to get the LPB body resprayed and I remembered that a Lakland I have was painted by Rob Fleet (via Simms Customs) https://www.rfcustom.co.uk/ I contacted Rob who could not have been more helpful. He explained that the cost of stripping my existing body & prepping for spray work would be relatively close to sourcing a nice new body which I could help to spec out in terms of desired weight and woods etc. We spent some time working our the ideal weight and he found a nice piece of premium alder to work with. I've always likes the Fender limited edition pink/purple sparkle Clayton P bass and Rob mentioned that he had an order for a deep purple flake pain job and I saw some images of the exact colour. We agreed on everything and the neck was duly dispatched so that he could make sure the neck fit was really tight and also to spray the headstock in matching purple flake. Not long afterwards I received the first body build shots and confirmation that the finished weight was bang on our agreed specs: Rob let me know that he thought it might be a good idea for him to custom build a guard whilst he had the body to ensure an exact fit and we agreed on a white pearloid finish. This kind of, relatively small, thing is a perfect example of Rob's attention to detail. He new I had a guard already but wanted to be sure of a perfect fit and finish. We also discussed the headstock logo as the body & spray work is all from Rob whilst the neck was made by Chris McIntyre, pickups from Curtis Novak etc. etc.. I didn't feel 'right' about asking Chris to use his logo and it seems to me that the core of this instrument has come from Rob. I felt I needed a logo of some kind and really didn't want to try and come up with some kind of random name so we agreed to go with an RF Custom logo. I think it's a classy logo & I have no plans to sell it on or pass it off as something it isn't - it genuinely is a 'custom' build so I'm happy with that. Today, Rob sent first pics of the finished body, with guard in place, & headstock. Typical of rob's professionalism is that he attached controls to the guard to make sure everything looked just right. He also asked about precise position of the strap buttons before drilling. So, here it is before it comes home for final fit at my local luthier, the rather wonderful Julian Mullen: Once it's home and fully finished I'll post some more pics!

  28. Yamaha SLB300 Silent Bass bought new at the beginning of lockdown and played extensively since: you'll know what you are looking at! However, I was playing it with a (lovely) swing band in an overheated venue when I fainted, coming to a couple of minutes later with the bass on top me. It survived remarkably well, still fully functional though the fall took out a set of Evah Pirazzi Weich strings and bent a tuning machine, both now replaced so fitted with a set of new as originally supplied Helicore Hybrid Lights. However, the fingerboard did strike the edge of the stage on the way down and this has left some denting (see photograph) - fortunately, it lies midway between the fourth and fifth finger positions so it has no impact on tuning and negligible impact on playability and is barely visible on a stage. However, the bass is priced accordingly. Only selling because getting a replacement tuning machine from Yamaha took so long that I had to buy a second SLB300 to be able to keep playing... Any questions, just ask!

  29. so spent a lot of time with this pedal the last 6 weeks used it with 7 different basses and it's interesting the chorus is good but not great I was surprised by how much I like the reverb ( reverb seems counterintuitive for bass) the para eq is very good , the business, very well thought through thanks to @Hellzero to have a go at it they should have called it something other than the Fretless maybe I see these are pricy but worth a go if you can try before buy FKT also make an Octaver Pedal which looks mean

  30. This is all tremendously helpful! Thank you all very much. Yes, it is the older 4B suitcase so it’s around 300w and my amp is the TH500 - I’ll have to be a bit careful not to push tooooo hard but it’ll only be for low volume stuff anyway so I’m not too concerned. Looking at the impedance to help with that is a very good idea. Also, the info and tips about testing speakers with multimeter is very much appreciated. I’ve a mate who has a background in electrical engineering so I might brace myself to take it to him (he’ll delight in explaining everything in eye-watering detail) and show him your comments to see if he can help with the testing, discuss wiring schemes/impedance etc. But I’m very heartened that it all seems very doable. Hopefully it’ll all work out and both save me a few hundred quid and the world a few resources. Thanks again! Liam

  31. White pickguards. Hofner violin basses. Classified ads that lead with Fender Squier instead of Squier by Fender. Passive pickups being called active ones just because the bass has a preamp installed. That massive swelling on the Fender headstock. I have a Fender. Bartolini pickups. It bothers me that they turn up on some REALLY nice basses. The price of 70s Fenders compared to eye-witness reports of how awful a lot of them were when new. Ernie Ball will NOT give Stingray 5 customers 19mm bridge string spacing.

  32. People who drive over the middle of mini-roundabouts instead of driving around them properly. The clue is in the name - Roundabout! Oh yes, basses... People who call my instrument "a guitar". It's not a guitar, it's a bloody bass! People who think music is a hobby as opposed to [in my case] a profession. Precision Basses. (I've tried, I really have. Many times. Honest.) Flatwound strings. (Again, I've tried. I really have!) Being buried in the mix. Ampeg Amplification. People who think a bass player is some simpleton who lurks at the back of the stage. Dull old strings.

  33. - Gibson/Fender/Squier/Fodera, not only because they are overpriced, but they also look outdated - maple and light coloured fretboards - painted is another thing - too round necks - single cut bodies and "Beatle bass" - ridiculously overpriced "vintage" stuff - fashion things like Hartke, ADA, Markbass, tce amps, Warwick Corvette... - lousy electronics in the signal path including carbon track pots like Alpha, CTS... - terms "passive" and "active, when they most likely describe only the output of a bass: hi-Z, or lo-Z - cheapo reissues like Steinberger, Tobias... - (Fender) reissues branded to someone like Pastorius, Flea, Victor Bailey while they actually played something else in their well known career - the word "mojo" in any circumstance

  35. WAL basses. They're ugly. Don't care what they sound like, how good their build quality is or, how rare they are. Apart from their inconceivable sales value (as I'd sell it immediately) you couldn't give me one for free. Stupid coloured bass cabs, ( orange, purple, red, green etc) Music stands on stage should attract the death penalty (tablets are okay) Drummers with more than three cymbals.

  36. Jazz/P/Strat/Tele/LP copies - Fender and Gibson are allowed to make their own copies (Squier and Epihpone), but everyone else is just ripping stuff off. Painted headstocks (and necks) except maybe black if it's a Gibson, Parker or Warwick etc P pick-ups - why are they in two bits like that? Brand new relic/road worn stuff

  38. Built up photograph here, Chris (stand not included in the sale, it seemed to cost nearly as much as the bass...) and another showing some more cosmetic damage. Electrics survived the fall without damage, yes. Another interested party has asked about the possibility of having it sent: I do have the original Yamaha shipping box so it's at least theoretically possible. I had a quick look at what it might cost and if one adds the insurance to cover the value, it would probably be around £80-£100. It was shipped to me via DPD and they would do it uninsured for about £15, I guess the original shipment was covered by the shop's insurance.

  42. Hi. Thank you for looking. I'm selling my LM IV as I no longer use it. I have only used a couple of times for practices. It's in immaculate condition having been housed in a flight case. Ideally would prefer collection but can post at buyers expense Description below copied from Markbass LITTLE MARK IV The new Little Mark IV amps add some amazing features to our flagship Markbass Little Mark III amplifier, an industry standard for tone, portability and value. The new bi-band limiter featured on this amp responds faster and more dynamically to your playing. Its paired with a 500 watt power amp providing impeccable bass frequency reproduction thanks to our MPT proprietary amp specifically designed for bass. In addition the Little Mark IV features a mute switch, and the 3 way switch that that includes the options of a Flat, Scooped or FSW (Footswitchable) EQ options. KEY POINTS > Little Mark’s legacy Since our beginning 20 years ago, Markbass pioneered small amp design with its "Little Mark" series creating an industry standard thanks to their amp's compact size, light weight, along with its signature warm and natural sound. That legacy has been preserved with the Little Mark IV, and has evolved to include the addition of new features requested by many of our artists and customers. > Updated 4 band EQ, Old School filter, 3 way switch Our updated 4 band EQ section features very effective controls allowing you to easily find the sound you want, boosting or cutting up to 16dB for each of the 4 bands to cover all the tonal nuances needed in any genre of music. Additionally the Old School filter cuts your high frequencies and gives a round and smooth tone. The 3 way rotary-switch allows you to choose between a super-balanced flat tone, a scooped preset that drops the mids while boosting the lows and highs - giving a superb slap sound, or lastly the 'FSW' option to control both mute and the Scooped EQ on demand by connecting an optional dual footswitch. > Bi-band limiter Our new bi-band limiter responds faster and more dynamically to your playing than traditional limiters do and lets your high end "breathe" for a more natural sound. It makes our amp heads the best choice for anyone who enjoys a quick, punchy attack at high volumes. > MUTE / LINE OUT LEVEL CONTROL / PRE-POST EQ switch Featured on the front panel of the Little Mark IV series amps are a convenient mute switch, along with the Line Out level control knob that allows for precise control of the signal sent to the mixer/ PA. On the rear panel is a Pre-Post EQ switch allowing you to set the XLR output's routing to before or after your EQ as required. > MPT - MARK PROPRIETARY TECHNOLOGY Many other bass amps on the market use power amps that are not specifically designed for bass. At Markbass, Marco De Virgiliis invested heavily in R&D to develop proprietary power amp technology in house. Our MPT power amp was built from the ground up to respect and elevate the inherent tone of your instrument.
