  1. We had a lovely gig last night, in what must be a unique venue, The Heron Theatre, Beetham, Cumbria. It's a grade 2 listed building in a small village, run as a charity entirely by volunteers. It serves a large rural catchment around south Cumbria where there aren't really many other venues of its kind. It was sold out well in advance at £15 a ticket. Great people to work with, nice dressing room, free tea, coffee & beer! We ran our own PA but spent the time to get the sound right and it really did sound great in the room as well as on stage. The audience loved it and many of them told us so. They are booked up June 2026, but we'll get another date after that. Rob

  2. Just in from a gig. I dep for this rock band and the gig was at a pub I've never been to before. Parking was ace. Double gates into a spacious yard and a short load in through the back door. These small things make a gig so much nicer. I set up and did a line check. Despite everything being on its usual settings, the bass sound was monstrous. Maybe too loud I thought. It was a raised stage and hollow as far as I could tell. I use a cab isolator anyway, but the sound was HUGE. The opinion from those out front was that it wasn't too loud, so I left things as they were. Truth be told, I'm not a massive fan of most of the songs this band do. If I never play Long Train Running and Play That Funky Music again, it will be day too soon! The said, I did get to play Black Velvet for maybe the second time ever and that sounded great. I take repeated calls of 'one more song' after the encore as a good night. We left it at that. For the most part my signal line was: Shuker JJ Signature Precision > Darkglass Microtubes 900 v2 'Euryale' > Barefaced Big Twin Gen III Some effects were sporadically deployed.

  3. The Piv in Stockingford, Nuneaton has got a great sounding room. The stage is only a step up and plenty big enough. They also sell a very nice cheese and onion cob - we get them as soon as we get there because they go quickly. I took the Sub-5 and it sounded great with the Stinger preamp. I really enjoyed playing it. I did have a tiny crisis of confidence on the doorstep and took my Sire as a backup, as the Sub hasn't been gigged much yet, but the Sire didn't come out of the case. The Sub is noticeably lighter and the neck is slimmer too. I'm really starting to like it. I do need to pop a few washers under the scratch plate though as the knobs are sitting a bit proud. (Note the tasty cob that I scoffed as soon as we finished) It was a little bit quieter than normal as we set up, but did fill out. I guess not everyone is a Eurovision fan, although it was on the TVs silently while we played. None more purple.

  4. I have got to keep my neb out of Facebook Marketplace. But it was too sparkly, and only 2 and a half hours away in the car. May I present this Burny (Fernandes) LSB-80 I just bought, simply because it was there, and I fancied it. I have plans for this bass. It's had a life, and it's been modded already (active stuff it would have originally come with is long gone, for example), so I'm going to be making some changes. It's not bad as is, but I think I can make it more to my liking. It plays really well (previous owner did a banging job of setting it up, recrowning frets etc) and it seems solidly made. Developments to come, stay tuned...

  5. Just back from another outing at the Reivers Sports Bar in Galashiels. A bit quieter than last time but we still had a few folk up and dancing. It was someone's birthday, so the Altered Images song made an unscheduled appearance. This was the first gig since I added the Thumpinator to the pedalboard and it made a hell of a difference. Tone was much more punchy and clear. Deffo money well spent. Rig: Sterling Stingray 5, Eden WTX264 into an Eden 210 cab. Pedals as shown: Footwear by Primani:

  6. Today we kicked off the UK proceedings for World Goth Day (technically this Thursday but I managed to get our event listed) with a cheeky little in store record shop gig. I played mainly mandolin with some mandocello and a bit of a guitar (not bad for an old bassist). We had a pretty respectable crowd and I enjoyed the set. We even had a brief write up locally Deadlight Dance Devizine

  9. Up for sale is my lightly used GSS Sumo power amp, 1000w , ( not the Baby Sumo !) , in factory supplied case . Very light , compact , and can be used with pedals if you don't wish to use a dedicated pre amp. Only selling as I've just bought a Jule M700 to go with my Monique . Would prefer collection from Worthing , West Sussex , where the amp can be tried and tested . Thanks, Mike

  10. I too was on Bassworld for awhile and signed up for Basschat on 17th May 2007. I remember thinking why would anyone sit in front of a terminal and post about playing bass! Ho hum!!!

  11. Our last ever gig for the Hendrix/blues band. Just as we have to part ways we’re beginning to really gel. Still, at least we’ve had the opportunity to do it and playing with them has been an amazing experience. We have recorded about 18 songs which will be put out on Spotify in the next week under the name of Move Over Rover. The guitarist is the ghost of Hendrix (I kid you not he was born the day Hendrix died and is steeped in the blues). I’m moving to a different country in a few weeks so the reason for it ending. Although I’m trying to persuade the others to join me! The gig had a small but enthusiastic crowd who are big blues fans. Always good to play to an appreciative audience. I’ve organised an open air music festival (a small affair) for next week, so we might do a few numbers at that, but the temperatures are now 45c and creeping up so it’ll be fairly unpleasant.

  12. Not last night, but this afternoon. My acoustic trio, The Desperate Cowboys, kicked off a two-day festival of original music in Wirksworth, Derbyshire. A forty five minute set of our own songs. It was overcast and slightly chilly when we started but the sun came out part-way through. We were very happy to take the credit for that. 🌞 Taylor mini bass through my Trace Elliott Elf and Barefaced one 10. Black leather Chelsea boots.

  15. Ahhh yes indeed good sir! We all scurried over from the sinking ship that was BassWorld.co.uk! I remember logging on to BassWorld and I think I still had dial-up internet to begin with! BassWorld appeared around 1998 and it was a lot quieter than BassChat, it’s great to see that many of the very early numbers of ‘worlders are still here!! And great to see the community has flourished and grown. Though it is saddening that we’ve lost some wonderful bassists on the way, their memory lives on.

  17. As part of Oxfordshire Artweeks we did a couple of sets in the garden outside an artist's studio in Charlbury. This was a rare chance to play fretless electric as the performance space was a bit cramped. A few seconds of one of our tunes can be heard here, if anyone fancies it (I'm hidden behind a bush).

  18. I didn't take any photos of last night, but someone passed on a video of us making a passable attempt at Fanfare. Unfortunately they missed off the initial fanfare, but hit record in time for the important bit 😜 Don't ask me what effect that is. It's a combination of a lot of things, I set it up years ago and can't remember the ingredients! I do end on a bottom B though 😄

  21. Yamaha TRBX605FM in amber tint. Stunning at this price point. The bass is really well put together, functions with no issues at all, tuners, bridge, truss rod all beautifully operational. Is essentially a brand new bass, condition is excellent. Body is lightweight, well balanced and smooth contours on the heal. Overall it's a very well designed and put together instrument, perhaps given the Yamaha and TRB legacy more generally that's not surprising. The bass has been further upgraded by the addition of Aguilar DCBs and an East unipre (5 knobber with active/passive switch). I only purchased this week from Happypants as I was curious to try something I could tune E-C. It works brilliantly in this regard however the neck is not really what I want for this and I know ultimately it's not a keeper. I am becoming a neck snob as my years advance it seems. Pictures are current with TI Flats on but I'll restring with the original B-G rounds and undo the very minor adjustment I made on the bridge so it's restored as a more conventional 5 string. Also included is the original Yamaha pickups and preamp in case you wanted to fully restore it and reuse the East/DCBs... potential bargain right there some might say 🙂 No case but Happypants packed the bass well (thank you again matey, BC kudos!). Alternatively I am selling a Gator gig big which could be included in the deal if helpful.

  23. May 16th 2007. Doesn’t time fly… How many basses have I bought and sold on here - maybe 25? Made a lot of friends too, and learned a great deal. If I manage another 18 years I’ll be pushing 88🤫

  25. 😂 great stuff! In possible defence of the seller - During my yoof, while giving being an active musician in London a go, I used to sleep on a mattress on the floor in a shared flat. We also used to sit on 2 army mattresses in the lounge because we didn't have any furniture. I may have been living on packets of pasta n sauce but I did have a '78 Rickenbacker and an '86 Stingray! Happy days living like the Young Ones... Could be a similar story, could be BS.

  26. Spent a few hours on it this afternoon - changed the tuners, oiled the fretboard, general polish up, new strings (my beloved D'addario XLs of course) and a tweak of the setup (intonation mostly). Also, found some hidden treasure on the neck heel - no serial number, but model number confirmed and other mystery letters...

  28. yo guys this is also listed on reverb but I’d rather sell it here to avoid fees etc The Darryl Jones signature bass overdrive pedal, an absolute favourite bass overdrive it sounds great with a J or a P bass… does that broken up Jaco bridge pickup thing, compliments a p bass beautifully, and a very musical and useful all rounder. has been gigged but is in very good condition and sounds amazing. these are now discounted, I’m not actually sure how many were made in the first place. I’ll probably regret letting it go but it isn’t getting used as much as it should be. buyers pays postage, collection welcome. cheers all

  32. My current band had a rehearsal on Thursday. It was set up in a hurry as we have a gig in June and we have only met up twice! Although the singer couldn't make it, the lead guitarist, drummer and me really clicked. It looks like the knowledge of an upcoming gig has really pushed everyone into nailing the songs at home. Next rehearsal on Wednesday,

  35. Ibanez SRMS805, 5 string multiscale, for sale. In good overall condition, the only things to note are: * there are a few marks and scratches on the back of the body ( see photos ) * there’s a screw missing from the B string bridge. No problem when string at tension and probably easy to replace. * there are a couple of tiny dings around the neck and headstock. Very small and nothing that you notice when playing. * A few marks from the strings on the pickup covers. No case or gig bag. Shipping (in an old hard case) can be arranged at buyers expense.

  36. 2007 Warrick Corvette made with the finest fancy wood (details at the end of the listing). £850 obo Sounds incredible and a pleasure to play from what I remember, but it's been sat in the bag for 5 years, as you can see from the dust, and deserves to be with someone who knows what they're doing. Was an impulse purchase when I got some inheritance after my mum died when I was 18 and haven't been able to give it justice, I've been getting into photography instead. Always been stored in a padded bag at the back of my bedroom so no crazy temperatures or humidities. Can do drop-off / pick up around Sheffield, Manchester, or around the north east; or can post at the buyers expense. If you've got any questions please do reach out and I'll do my best to answer where I can. Runs on a 12 volt and it's all still functioning well (checked it hadn't leaked battery acid) - but could probably do with a new set of strings Brik

  37. I had a 4-string set for a while that I bought to try, as they're just around £10-12, or £15 for a 5-string set. I finally put them on a bass and I'm really liking their sound. I almost never like a set of flats on day 1, but these are nice. That's all, public service announcement over.

  42. Absolutely. A speaker the size of your thumb or fingernail is not going to reproduce any low frequencies. I listened to that BF video on my DT770s via a wired internet connection (you lose a lot with wireless) and it sounded fine. Same here. For practical purposes, super deep bass from a stage rig is usually not desirable. It sets the stage and everything on it vibrating, goes down all the mic's as a result and turns the FoH to mud. Attempting to pump out single figure frequencies also wastes a lot of amplifier power. Super deep bass is impressive and pleasing in the showroom, the studio and your hi-fi, but not on stage.

  47. Another easy one in the main but there is a stunning little solo in the middle that requires a huge amount of sensitivity and concentration - don't be deceived by what you think you are hearing, this is tricky stuff. This is a Faberge egg of a performance from Steve Swallow on the 1987 Carla Bley album 'Septet'. The tune is called 'Lawns'. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/lawns-carla-bley-septet/

  48. This is as good an explanation as you'll read. Normal Ethernet is not designed for the rigours of anything apart from sitting in an office environment not being disturbed. It's mostly solid core with a minimum radius bend. It has a outer core designed for lift shafts and trunking and once it's laid down, it doesn't expect to ever move. Patch cables are different but are not designed to move much. I wouldn't trust office Ethernet cable for more than a few weeks days if it's in constant use. I have a more vocal view of the locking mechanism on Ethernet cables than @BigRedX, mine is wholly unprintable. This is based on being responsible for the design. installation and management of 25,000 cat5 ports across 22 sites around London circa 1997, and when a decent intersite network was a 35Mb ATM connection. I still have a nervous twitch thinking about this. I think I'd rather trust a damp and frayed string holding an elephant 2m above my head than trust Ethernet in a gigging environment. I'm sure people use better cables now but I wouldn't want to use standard or cheap stuff in front of my Aunt Nellie. Anyway, @BigRedX is spot on Rob

  49. Gibson EB0 1968/69 Bass USA This old bass comes complete with original tug bar, working mute and bridge cover. Even the original plastic shims under the bridge cover ‘feet’ are present. The big Gibson mud-bucker is stock and sounds massive. Short scale, set neck with pearl inlays and rosewood board. Mahogany body. I replaced the foam in the bridge as an old yellow kitchen sponge was in it when I bought it. The screws holding the cover in place look newer to me and there is some more modern looking wire connecting to the jack in the control plate. See pics. The other thing I did was to replace the G tuner as it was slipping (in ‘68 Gibson were using imported tuners from their Kalamazoo range to keep up with orders as interest in the bass hit it’s peak). The replacement tuner is a Hipshot and I have the original. It is strung with Thomastik Jazz flats. When I bought it the bass was wearing the heaviest, nastiest mix of black nylon Rotos and round wounds but the neck had managed to stay straight. The bass has had no neck or headstock repairs. It’s lovely to play and nice and light but resonant. It is a one trick pony but it does that trick very well and I found it very musical. The action is low and the string tension low so unplugged it’s quite buzzy. Played through an amp it sounds great but at the time I was using it I was recovering from a fretting hand op so playing it now it could probably do with the action raising. I’m out of action again with rotator cuff so can’t do this at the moment. The trussrod works properly and the frets have life in them but are probably due for a crown. I bought it with a pretty nifty home made case. I would think it rare to find one with all its original hardware. UK only sorry. No trades, pickup preferred so you can try it out but I can post if that’s difficult. It’s a gigged, vintage bass over half a century old so lots of finish checking (that looks gorgeous) and dings. The pictures show it strung with D’Addarios but the bass is now wearing Thomastik flats as per description. I’ve added more detailed pics.
