Good fun last night in Nottingham at the Tap and tumbler. Wasn't sure how we'd go down but seemed to be really well received. I had a bit of a wardrobe malfunction....accidentally wore a random black shirt somehow....I won't go onto detail. Anyway, sound was great and and a good night all round....12 points

Well I did it. After watching this one for over 2years online with the local agent, I pulled the trigger and bought myself the one bass I will never put down. I have promised both myself, my long-suffering better half and most of my mates that this is genuinely the last bass I ever buy. Feel free to screenshot this post and remind me if you see me lurking 🤣🤣🤣 But anyway, here she is: One N.O.S. 2021 American Pro 2 Jazz bass 75rh Anniversary FSR Dark Night with Rosewood board. Genuinely cannot describe how beautiful this thing is, all around. It feels amazing in the hand, sounds exactly like a Jazz should and it has the most beautiful rosewood I have ever seen on any neck! This is a pretty good place to end my GAS Odyessy 😎11 points

Our first time back at the Black Horse in Whitwick since just before Christmas. It was a quiet compared to normal - it's usually rammed. A good, enthusiastic crowd though and much dancing took place. It's a bit of a strange weekend, what with a public holiday last Monday and the VE80 stuff going on. Our little drummer boy is still riddled with bronchitis, so Rob was kind enough to step in again and did a great job. It's so nice to be able to lock in with a good drummer, even if we threw a couple of songs at him out of the blue. We had a great night. Footwear were purple suede Gazelles - they don't come out often. I took the Sire P, going into the usual GT-6B and Rumble 500 combo. My favourite patch at the moment is the Octa-Fuzz which got quite a feature in Born to be Wild amongst others. Only the one photo of the compact stage, dimly lit after we'd finished playing11 points

HEY FOND DU LAC AREA FRIENDS! Maple Road Blues Band is coming to your neighborhood THIS SATURDAY NIGHT! Join the party at Capones! www.mapleroadbluesband.com My concerns. We've never played there before, It's a late night bar gig and I'm 71. At my age I'm just not comfortable being out at night in a bar even though I'm technically working there. I'm not sure if this place is known for having live music. I'm sure I'll have stories tomorrow. Daryl9 points

Not a bad night in Portsmouth but quiet at the venue which was a shame. We were pretty tight having thrown in a few we’ve not played in a while but they went ok despite having played them on the 5 previously and have been using the FrankenJazz with a Hipshot so I was still experimenting with different positions and flipping between E and D to fit which led to a few errors in position when dropped. Worst for me was the end of Rollin’ In The Deep when I got songs muddled and was playing (in our tuning) D-E-F#-E-D instead of F#-E-D-E-F#. Guitarist said after “I thought you were going for different inversions but actually it ended up as the “jazz” version. Sound was good from where I was and at one point vox came over to me, nodded at my rig and said “oooo that sounds awesome” … he was right, it did 😁 Annoyingly I’m still waiting both for my new IEM’s with a new mold for a hopefully better fit, and the old ones repaired after one side stopped working ☹️ Meant I had to use the KZ’s I picked up as spares. I haven’t managed to get a good fit so the sound from them is never as good as the molded set, but it was better than nowt. I ended up one in / one out which was ok. On stage the sound seemed well balanced. Hopefully out front was the same!9 points

Probably best if I link to the original owners ad from last year for the first of details: It is a lovely bass, however soon after buying it I picked up an Ibanez ATK on a whim and arrived at the conclusion that nothing short of a USA sterling or older stingray 5 (for the ceramic p/up plus switching options) will do for me. In terms of changes since I bought it, I've just raised the action and tweaked pickup height to my preference, removed glow in the dark markers from the neck and bought a hardshell case for it. It currently has Dunlop strap locks on, but will change it back to the schaller buttons it came with unless buyer wants the dunlops. The only thing I'd add as a note to condition, is the slight raised top edge of the control panel cover which I've tried to show in photos, a few little dings/marks around the jack socket, and some slight shiny spots from player wear. All in all though, looks and plays great. I'm Bristol based and would prefer pick up/meet up but I think if the case was packed out a little to stop movement internally and then boxed up, it would probably be fine to post, would just need to sort a box for it. Asking £750 but open to negotiation depending on ease of collection/meet or delivery costs. Need the cash ideally, but conscious this is a bit niche so will consider trades if it's something I could easily move on.7 points

After 33 years, my covers band, The Three Amoebas, grind to a halt. Admittedly we've done naff all for the past few years, with just the odd gig here and there. The band has always been a complete laugh and piss take, doing rock/metal/punk covers the way we want. People have always liked us, possibly because they're usually mates😄. We've been good friends since the eighties, but sort of drifted offvto do other stuff life wise, musically and job wise. The drummer's on Talksport and Planet Rock, and recording his own stuff, the guitarist has his other bands, and I'm doing old school death metal. Our last ever gig is in June. A bit bittersweet, but hey, life goes on.4 points

Japanese Sadowsky 5 string in very good condition with all the 70’s DNA a five string Jazz Bass could possibly have. Ash body, maple neck/board, bound neck, block inlays. Pickups in 70’s position providing for more clear and tight sound options. Bass is fitted with new Sadowsky single coils and new pre amp with VTC. I can reïnstall the original Sadowsky humfree pickups and pre amp (with no VTC) if desired. Frets are like new and provide for action as low as you like. This is quite an early UV70 which means the neck is not reïnforced with graphite strips as the woods were still top quality. Maybe I am delusional but in my hands I feel a more organic bass that sounds more like wood than the later ones. Not better, but different. Comes with the well known Sadowsky rectangular semi hard case. These are arguably the best '70's Jazz fivers around they are relatively rare (not sure, maybe hundreds or less exist) and they are not being produced anymore. On par with the NYC quality, not with any MIG and MIC I played. Offers considered.4 points

Sadowsky NYC Original P (2005) Alder body, maple neck, BR RW board 20 fets, 9" radius, 1 1/2" Nut width (J), '59 burst, Vintage neck tint Hardware chrome Weight 3,74kgs Unique Sadowsky NYC. The only one I have ever seen. Action, weight, balance and entire playability is best of the best. Sound is deep like a Precision bass with clarity rather than that quacking Precision sound. Very smooth and well blending. Comes with original Sadowsky rectangular semi hard case.4 points

Considering how bad a lot of modern statues are, this one is an exceptional likeness. I've nicked this pic of the statue in the workshop, because it's the only image I've found so far that clearly shows the face. Nice detail on the hands too "Cast in bronze, the statue portrays Lemmy with his Rickenbacker 4001 bass, his head tilted up towards the microphone, playing the opening chord to their 1979 hit Overkill" Excellent job, both the artist and Stoke on Trent should be delighted.4 points

Glorious bass. Want to keep it but can't justify (I'm up to 10 now, something's gotta give... My marriage, maybe...arf) Excellent condition. Some small marks on headstock. Hard fitted case (not Warwick). The price on the Warwick website to buy one of these new is mind-bending. This particular bass would be considered 'Masterbuilt' under today's classification. This bass was built in 2010 which was before they stamped them with the title (info from the Warwick forum). Trades considered. Any high end 5s or Vintage Fenders (with cash either way if agreeable). Thanks for looking!4 points

Tell that to the members of the LSO... Seriously, if you're playing a couple of dozen three and four chord numbers with no tricky melodic structures or rhythms (which is what you refer to playing), you can wing it once you have the basic form down. Other things can be just a bit more complex.3 points

There is that. I've recorded people in the studio and slowed the song down by 5bpm so they can do it. I did get clocked for it by one of the other band members once who politely asked "what the hell are you doing Andy?" I politely told him to "shut up" whispering very quietly saying I'd explain afterwards. It was the other guitarists band and he was really, really good. He just couldn't quite play his own solo at the tempo they'd chosen. He would have taken years to get it right in bits as it was at least 45 seconds long and intensely complicated. Sometimes preserving someone's ego in the moment is worth it. Miming live is fraud to me. There's something that's been lost by all this and that's spontaneity. None of these clowns can play on the hoof. Like listen to a live album and you hear things being slightly messed up. That's gone now. In one of my own bands, the guitarist becomes intensely irritated by the fact that I freestyle loads of bits of songs. The point was I improvised when I recorded them, so I play them differently every time I play them. Which I feel is being true to myself and what I did on record. People like this Giacomo glock can't do that as everything has to be perfect and they don't have the facility to adjust themselves to anything else. Hence the miming and ludicrous striving for "perfection." Oh, and he ripped folk off too. Classy.3 points

Seen loads of bands where members have a pad on a stand next to their mic-stand. It's an absolute turn off for me. Would confidently say that if you need a comfort blanket like this, then you really shouldn't be gigging. Brutal opinion, eh? You learn your material, you rehearse and rehearse until the songs become muscle memory and then you go out and play live. The only prompt you should need is an A4 sheet of paper with your set list on it, beyond this, no safety net.3 points

If you're anywhere near local to Essex, come to mine for a jam. I love a filthy riff and making stuff up on the spot - sometimes it's absolute crap, other times it turns into a giant beast of a song! I've got plenty of amps, basses, guitars, drums, etc. so there's plenty of room to stretch and have a good old fashioned noise making sessions! If you're anywhere near, let me know - you can just bring yourself and we can make some disgusting noise!3 points

I don't know why, however that stage looks " Cavern Clubish " to me. Daryl3 points

PA should always carry the instruments, and again the reason is dispersion. Low frequencies have no problem filling a room as they're not highly directional, or directional at all below roughly 250 Hz. But that's not the case with mids and highs, so if you want 'not a bad seat in the house' the mids and highs from everything should be in the PA, drums included. Not necessarily loud, but just enough to give a uniform sound throughout.3 points

Selling this lovely Bitmap in great shape with original box - it's basically mint apart of velcro. These received significant software update last year with additional clipping modes etc. Red Panda has also very convenient web editor for presets. Happy to trade (with price adjustments) for interesting dirt pedals. Bitmap occupies my "loose spot" for additional dirt in pedalboard and I'm just happy to experiment. Basic overdrive I'm covering with Capo. The ones I would love to try are EAE, Damnation Audio, Broughton, Bearfoot, Hiero etc. Would've thrown 3leaf in but what are the chances2 points

Fantastic (and very light) 800w Markbass TTE800 Tube Amp with built in Tube Compressor. This is the better quality Mk1 of these amps that was still made in Itsly Preamp & Compressor is run on 4 tubes - 3x ECC83 (preamp) + 1x ECC81 (compressor) and a class D head meaning it’s still sub 5lbs! Also has a fantastic quality DI giving you an excellent recording device rivalling anything out there at 3-4x the cost, and as it’s a Class D power amp you can run it alone without a speaker just as your DI live if you wanted to, it doesn’t require a can connected like full tube amps 3b Passive EQ and also ‘Colour’ knob which is like a tone control on your passive bass or like the MB ‘VLE’ function. This amp is insanely loud if needs be, and gives you an amazingly thick, dense sound that remains clean. This isn’t like your Ampeg’s etc that you can overdrive, it’s a clean tube amp, altho with some real effort and the gain cranked you can OD it with a boost but it’s not really that style, it’s just an authentic vintage tone with heft you can only really get from a tube preamp I have recently got a tube DI that fits on my pedalboard, and I go ampless on stage 95% of the time, and so I am getting a power amp that I can drive from my board if I need a cab, rather than introducing something else to my signal if I need an amp. This is an amazingly good amp - and for the money it’s an awful lot better than some of the others out there (an 800w Harley Benton amp is £300 currently, so this is miles ahead of everything else in this price range, and most above too) It also looks absolutely great - including amber lighting on the circuit board giving you a nice amber glow through the enclosure which looks ace on a dark stage Info on Markbass Website: https://www.markbass.it/product/tte-800/ I have price this to sell specifically at the price I need it to sell for to buy the power amp I want, so I’m not going to reduce it, if it doesn’t sell I’ll keep it, it’s a beauty (or if the amp I’m after goes I’ll withdraw it) Price is £360 - postage can be arranged, will be packaged very securely and it’ll arrive in one piece. Thanks! The remix has gone down almost as well as the original so we're looking for someone to do an "industrial" remix of the next single. As for the Vivian Westwood shirt, it's a "modern" re-issue bought about 10 years ago.2 points

I am so glad they went with a healthy Lemmy, rather than the very obviously sick and dying one in the Rainbow Bar & Grill. I think he’d have hated that one, but he would have approved of this new one. I will be going to see it as soon as I can get up to the Midlands.2 points

I'm out now! Recent acoustic folk band rehearsals revealed that my Phil Jones Double 4 just didn't quite have the capacity against an acoustic drum kit. As a result, I borrowed a DB Hype 8 last week to try as a replacement, and it worked great. Pressed the go buy button the following day and it arrived yesterday. Looking forward to the gigs at the end of the month a lot more now.....2 points
