Well, a broken van causes sale. Literally only a few months old (if that). I bought this due to all the glowing reviews and endorsements. It's a superb instrument. Sounds glorious. Nice and punchy, and like Jeff says every note really does ring out, no dead spots or unbalanced strings. It looks stunning in real life, nothing like the photos you see on the internet, the quality is to be seen in the flesh. Its lightweight, sounds lovely and has great tuners as well as the x2 custom bartolinis. I found the bridge pick up solod is lovely and rich and using the neck pickup adds a more fat precision like sound. The pick ups and bendable and theres a tone and volume too. Really is a high end bass. Pick up leyland Lancashire7 points

Very cool, great playing and great sounding Musicmaster Bass - I just have too many basses now and need to raise some funds! Lovely neck on this, shaped by the legendary Herb Gastelum according to the stamp on the neck. All original to the best of my knowledge. 3.5kg according to my bathroom scales. A few dings here and there, as per the pics, and the scratchplate has minor cracks in a couple of places but generally in good condition for its age. No case I'm afraid but will be well packed for shipping. UK mainland shipping only, included in the price, with a decent courier! Or can be collected from high Wycombe or central London. Now £1250 before it goes to a shop6 points

The 110 came in the post from Thomann today . I can’t wait to play a gig with this rig . I initially thought this would only be suitable for small acoustic types of gigs but the power is unreal from this thing.4 points

Unexpected house expenditures necessitate one more in my sequence of bass sales in 2022 - in this case my 2019 fireglo 4003 beauty, which weighs a more than acceptable 9.0 pounds (4.08kg). Plays very slickly with 40-100 DR Pure Blues strings recently installed. Comes with Rick hard case in good used condition. A few minor knocks visible in pics (tip of headstock; rear underside edge; and small [2cm ish] patch of buckle rash, not through the wood) but none visible except very close up. Collection from SW13 London (south of Hammersmith Bridge) or delivery at cost (around £30 and probably UPS?) Sale only. No trades. Also, sorry to our EU brethren (I didn't vote for B...t), its a UK sale only.3 points

Selling this for what I paid for it on here, which frankly I think was a bargain, for sale elsewhere for a lot more. I need the space! I was going to defret this (again, this is the second time I've owned it and I defretted it then, subsequently it was refretted :-)) but I never got round to it as it does sound so good in its current form but I just have too many instruments now and I'm mainly playing short scale now. Price includes UK mainland shipping, or can be collected in person from high Wycombe or central London for a discount. Designed by Ned Steinberger in conjunction with Bolin guitars and built by hand in Boise Idaho. 35" scale. Single piezo pickup which sounds incredible, very flexible and not at all over trebly like many piezos, this thing can pretty much do it all! Beautiful flame maple top and ebony fretboard, very high quality all round. And incredibly light! Only 3.3kg. Excellent condition, some minor dings on the back. Comes with original hard case. Currently strung E-C (all of my fives are) but I will happily restring it B-G for the new owner if they wish.3 points

Stealing from Mr Hill again. Not a fan of his band but the man had great taste when it came to basses and beards 😃 Think that plan is on the back burner 🤣3 points

The Sterling SB14 has a basswood body that delivers warm tone with great sustain. Like the Music Man model, the smaller body is comfortable and easy to hold during long gigs. It features a Music Man-designed active preamp. The Music Man-designed bridge has thick saddles for stability and precise slotting. Carbon fibre wrap on the scratchplate (easily removable, plain white underneath). Matching headstock. Upgraded pickup to a Nordstrand (now discontinued) with 'ghost coil' to kill hum in single coil mode. The SB14 is an accurate version of the popular Music Man Sterling model. Hence why its called a SB14, Otherwise it would be the Sterling by Sterling by Musicman. Body: Basswood Neck: Maple Fingerboard: Rosewood Pickups: Nordstrand Humbucking with ceramic pole pieces and hum-canceling phantom coil with switching giving series/parallel and 'noiseless'single coil options Preamp: 3-band Active Preamp: Volume, Treble, Mid, Bass Bridge: Music Man designed Tuners: Open Gear No scratches or dints to mention, very nice colour (metallic red) with matching head-stock. Light (just under 9lbs), basically a stingray that's easier on the neck with some extra coil switching on the pickup.3 points

Tube amps also introduce a fair amount of compression as you reach maximum power output so they tend to sound louder even the the peaks in the signal are no greater than a solid state amp the average signal level is.3 points

There's a whole lot of questioning going on there. 'Wattage' from an amp assumes a load so as to calculate power from the known amp voltage output. Class D amps come with varying levels of claim about their wattage. Agedhorse can fill you in on the detail but the more reputable claims are based on a 'duty cycle' that acknowledges the lack of noise required most of the time and leverages that to increase the peak power that can be had without anything blowing up. Less than reputable schemes shrink the duty cycle to claim stupendous power output that fails the thumping 8ths test. This contrasts with old school Trace Elliot solid state rating which was the continuous rated output. Play whatever you like and it can come out with the peak clean voltage every time. Tube amps still sound good with quite a bit of distortion going on. That raises the power level without raising the peak voltage.3 points
-
Rule of thumb is that the wattage is calculated to the power output before distortion. Valve amps for electric instruments are designed to operate beyond the point where distortion occurs. For bass, 300 watt valve amps are not uncommon because of the vastly increased headroom (how long it sounds clean Vs power output). Increasing the amplification beyond the maximum undistorted signal is Overdriving and will alter the nature of the signal. The area where this sounds pleasing in some way gives a lot of extra loudness output so the amplification and power usage if measured at the wall are actually way higher than the rated wattage.3 points

What are the cab sims doing? All on factory default mic/distance and other settings... obviously they are based around some kind of impulse response and time based element that I'm not gathering here... White noise into reaper.... The EQ Now this is the interesting bit for me.... and involved some photoshop... The high control - which goes quite low if you want it too... (grey line is flat) The mid control purple is shift at it's lowest setting, pink is the shift set at 12o'clock and the lilac is the highest setting. And here's where it gets a bit odd... The Bass control Light yellow is set at it's lowest setting- it also pulls down everything above 200Hz but fairly powerful control... it can go plenty low enough and fat enough for bass, don't listen to Talkbass... The orange is set at it's highest setting... if 450Hz is considered Bass? Interestingly that boost seemed to go a bit weird at the full rotation of the pot and gives that secondary peaks at 1.5k and 2.5k - backed off just a smidge and this turns into a more regular peak ... there's actually a lot of change available at the end of the pots travel. I'm not sure when I would turn down the bass on the orange line...3 points

For sale is my stunning US 75th Anniversary P Bass with a one piece ash body and finished in a stunning Bourbon Burst. It has factory fitted gold hardware and comes with the limited edition silver case, all the certificates and accessories and the original mint and after market black pickguard. It's in immaculate condition. It weighs in at 4.2kg (9lbs 2-3oz). The neck is finished is a lovely natural satin lacquer in the back and gloss on the front (although not thick or sticky at all). It's a simply stunning bass but is getting little use. I'm looking for £1,550 delivered via courier fully insured of £1,500 picked up from near Monmouth and I'm happy to travel within an hour's drive to hand it over. Not looking for trades thanks.2 points

Weight = 9.4lbs (with covers on) This is one of 46 made with the limited edition Neck Plate on (see photos), so a rare beast! I've owned it from new, I got it from Bax originally years ago. It's spent most of its life in the case (which is in good shape itself), and even comes with the original outer box (which it was also in for many years). I gigged it once, and used it in the studio once as the bass I was meant to be using decided to die on the day this arrived. It's in great shape, but due to the finish used on these basses there is some natural checking that has appeared (and is impossible to photo I've found, but have a look at the photos anyway), people usually pay extra for checking. It's basically on the front and back of the body and around the neck pocket. Neck is like new though from what I can tell. Where the rear pickup cover sits, the screws have caused a bit of chipping, and a bit of finish rash - both of those are impossible to see with the cover on, I didn't notice when I got it new til I took those off. It comes with tonnes of case candy, including an unused strap, unused strings, instructions etc etc. Pickup preferred near junction 50 A1 (near Harrogate kind of). Can post at buyers cost if fully insured. Willing to consider near offers, send me a PM. Although I look newish around here, I’ve been on the forum for years, feedback thread here…2 points

2015 Cort GB75 JH Bought this off eBay recently but typically something I was after for a while became available immediately after I'd bought it! Original advert here. Simply don't have the room to keep. Very good used condition with a few minor marks but nothing obviously noticeable - worst is the mark on the lower horn pictured (some of the wood figuring looks like scratches in the photos but isn't). There's a faded section on back of neck so guessing it's been on a stand for a while. Comes with a Gear4Music hard case which doesn't look like it's been used much. Original advert states recent service/setup including new strings and new pick guard. 3.9kg. Collection from Orpington BR6 or can courier at buyer's cost and risk to UK. My 2nd Overwater J5 Contemporary. I went for something different this time as oppose to standard j pups. Reverse P and Soapbar combo with a John East Uni Pre, Birdseye maple fretboard, 35 scale. I've only played through headphones so far but will be taking for a test run at tomorrow's gig. I wasn't sure about the colour but wanted something a bit more vibrant than my black/grey burst.2 points

Hi All, Wanted to share my second bass build with you fine folk (first build here). Overall I am pretty pleased with it. It sounds great if I may say so - reminds me of a punchier P-Bass. I suspect that's down to the pickups more than my craftsmanship or choice of woods, so I'd happily use those EMGs again (if I can ever get my hands on some). I did make a few mistakes and won’t highlight them all here for fear of being too self-critical, but the main things I’d change design-wise are the headstock as the break angles for the strings aren’t great (would also match the headstock topwood a bit better to the body), and the neck profile ended up a little thin for my liking. But this is all a learning process. The next build that I've just started will go back to basics - a variation of a P/J bass, so I can focus on getting the finish perfect and not worry about cutting funky wood shapes, exotic top woods etc. Will also post that here when it’s ready! Main specs as follows: 32 inch scale Chambered mahogany body Walnut and flame maple top Walnut neck Rosewood fretboard EMG CSX pickups EMG BQS preamp ABM bridge system2 points

Bumper weekend of Harley Benton basses and bloody nice they are too 🙂 Friday night I spotted @jezzaboy had a cracking black/maple JB-75 in the sales ads. Wee trip to Paisley on Saturday and I was again the proud owner of the Thomann jazz bass 👍 Plenty has been said about these over the years , brilliant bit of kit . The 12lb weight doesn't bother me in the slightest. BTW Gerry, followed your directions and was home in no time; cheers pal 😎 Today also saw me travelling west for bass. Young lad in Lanark was selling a PB-50 on Gumtree, OK it's a leftie PB-50 but I've a plan 😀2 points

My working board for Bandeoke gigs. Never know what's coming, so I need simplicity and flexibility. The graphic is used as a boost (or a cut in this shot as I'm using it at home) The American sound always on to dirty up the basic sound. I never leave home without an octave, the synth and wah may be used if that kind of tune comes up. The boost kicks the American sound into a bit more dirt, the Splinter is for when I want to bring the ceiling down.2 points

A couple of nice bass artifacts in here alongside the current Scots-themed temporary exhibition. Basses belonging to Matlock, Mani and Redding should appear below. Hooky's Shergold was meant to be there but was mysteriously absent from the cabinet, presumed auctioned. Apologies for slightly underwhelming photos - if I'd been thinking, I'd have made sure I had the polarising filter with me. Tickets are valid for 12 months though - no doubt I'll get another chance. Got some great shots from the nearby Dr Who exhibition too 😀2 points

It's not calculated, it's measured. Watts is simply the current drawn multiplieed by the tension, or voltage. 1 amp at 9 volts is 9 watts. For amps, there is no fixed tension (voltage...), as sound waves vary in intensity. It's become convention, then, to do the power (watts...) measurement at one frequency: 1 kHz. The power stated for that frequency is therefore nominal, and may be different at other frequencies. It is also useful to understand that the power output of an amp varies a lot if one takes distortion into account. It is a Good Idea to state at what level of distortion the power has been measured. For HiFi amps, 0.1% distortion might be quoted, for music amps it might be 1%, and some quote power ratings at 10% distortion. There are other factors in play when thinking about sonic output to a cab, though, apart from just power output. It becomes a bit arbitrary to try comparing simply power outputs from differing technologies. Notions such as the 'class' of amp will affect the audible perception of the amp (a Class A doesn't sound like a Class A/B at the same power level, for example...). In theory, all the power rating should give identical audible results; it's just not the case. The technologies aren't directly comparable, that's all. Hope this helps, even if only a little.2 points

So after falling in love again with graphite necks I decided to have a bit of a switch around and picked up a 2021 S2 thru neck with a stunning walnut top and it also has the pickups fitted in the same position on the Chris Wolstenholme model. It's absolutely stunning and absolutely spotless too. Ergonomically it's very different to the Kingbass and feels a little bit more "traditional" to me and my usual Fender derivatives; I feel a lot more comfortable with it on a strap than the Kingbass, but the 32" scale and 16.5mm spacing on the Kingbass is just amazing to play.2 points

Installed some of the hardware. I hate wrestling with bear-trap retainers but not as much as I would hate the sound of a broken KT66 rattling around inside the enclosure. I haven't fitted screening cans for the preamp valves as this is a fairly low-gain design and the enclosure is one big Faraday cage. Also wired up the circuit board. Some of the eyelets are as yet unsoldered as they will take leads from the transformer.2 points

I saw this page this morning .....which led to this..... ....which led to this.... I hope people on here like overhang. The people in PMT seemed absolutely amazed at how much it was selling for. Initial thoughts tailored to this audience of basschatters: The fans are silent. I mean they're not quiet, they are literally silent. I cannot hear them. It sounds great through this 6.5" speaker, which is my only cabinet. The car picture above is for teh lulz. I actually walked there and back and was able to carry it 0.6 miles without too much difficulty.2 points
