  1. After a driver replacement on the Schroeder I decided to try this mongrel pairing. Works really well and way louder than what you’d expect from 30w. Not the prettiest set up , but if it works it works .

  3. Finally got to take some gear out for a couple of days of rehearsing with some bands. Damn this set up works so well; surprisingly loud and full.

  5. Red all night tonight - was due new strings for 5 basses and “next day” obviously means “not within 3 days…” but it seems the strings I kept as spares to put on the red one still had enough snap for one rehearsal…

  6. Yes, units manufactured. I mentioned this because these sorts of issues tend to show themselves after many speakers are out in the field used in a variety of applications. Same sort of thing often occurs with fatigue related reliability issues, which is one reason why more comprehensive modeling and aging analysis is done in higher volume commercial products (especially if a long warranty is offered). I thought that some folks here might be interested in the information I provided, if I was wrong then I’m sorry for wasting my time.

  7. Better photo tonight. Weird room - for live tracking drums so was acoustically a bit odd…

  15. My cousin was born and raised in Houston, Texas. In '83 Eliminator came out and it was also her first trip over to see the UK family. As a 10yr old boy she introduced me to a couple of bands, one of whom was ZZ Top. Eliminator had just come out and they were yet to break in the UK - certainly my family hadn't heard of them, not that we were any sort of barometer of cool. I played that album to death and bought the earlier records and some of the later ones subsequently. When we took her to get her returning flight, we bumped into one of the band at the airport (I couldn't tell you if it was Billy or Dusty - I was 10 and it was the first celebrity I'd seen in person). My cousin shared the flight with the band and met them for photos / autographs afterwards. Being a three piece I was fascinated that one was credited with bass guitar and one was credited with lead guitar. It was probably through them that I learnt the difference. Years later Dusty sent himself up beautifully in King of the Hill. I always thought they were classy guys. Maybe not a band that stayed at the forefront of my tastes but certainly one who helped steer and shape things for me. RIP Dusty.

  22. I'm a big fan of the FEA compressor (which is why I already have one so won't be buying this one - but good luck with the sale!), un-obtrusive compression that makes everything a bit more even and punchy while somehow simultaneously adding a nice slightly softened/vintage tone, and there's nothing else I'm aware of with a separate footswitch for the sidechain compression - that's something I use a lot for things like playing Dub/Reggae and wanting to leave the Bass less compressed but then when switching to playing with an envelope filter that needs the Bass more compressed the sidechain compression can be clicked off.

  29. Due to the Covid-19 situation and severe back problems (67% officially disabled because of it) plus right shoulder injury (non-operable capsulitis from which, after more than 3 years, I will never fully recover), I'm selling all my basses over 4 kilos and also the ones I'm not really using as well as some stuff I don't use. I've also considerably lowered the price for a quick sale. All original ALEMBIC Elan IV, 32 inches, from 1991. Rare chrome hardware. Perfectly balanced. Shipping fee included in the asking price !!! TRADES MAYBE, BUT KEEP IN MIND THAT IT'S AN $11.200 USD BASS (WITHOUT ALL TAXES AND DUTIES) ! NON NEGOTIABLE PRICE ! Asking price including shipping fully insured with tracking number to your place in these European countries (ask for other countries) : Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France (excluding French overseas departments and territories), Germany, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Monaco, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom : £3499 GBP !!! Expect to pay at least $11.200 USD (plus all the taxes and import duties as well as a long waiting time) to get a new one made today... Shipping to United Kingdom is, of course, possible, but with an extra customs fee (VAT + other taxes + courier fee), because U.K. is now outside EEC. In fully working condition and in excellent overall condition, except the few dings and scratches mentioned (and photographed) below. Here are the specifications : Body : Elan shape, two wings of maple with thick beautiful flamed maple wings over a walnut pinstripe Thru body neck : 3 pieces of maple Fingerboard : ebony with pearloid (plastic) oval inlays and walnut under pinstripe (the sides have been sanded, according to Alembic's suggestion, to suppress the typical frets issue) Frets : 24 frets that all have had their end rounded à la Ibanez Premium and have very very slight wear (see last photo in the link below) Headstock : typical Alembic 4 in line shape with flamed maple top and back and 2 ebony veneers on each side Pickups : immaculate (nothing broken) Alembic AXY4 (like the Stanley Clarke model) - neck pickup moved 1/2" toward the bridge (option) Preamp : Alembic low-pass filter with Q switch Controls : volume, blend, low-pass filter, Q switch Tuners : original Alembic chrome Bridge : original solid brass Alembic two parts, bird type (rare chrome finish) Strings spacing at bridge : 17 mm Nut : original adjustable Alembic solid brass (rare chrome finish) Strings spacing at nut : 12 mm Knobs : original Alembic Scale : 32 inches Hardware colour : rare chrome finish, even the Alembic logo and the truss rods cover are in chrome Truss rods : 2 (fully working) adjustable at the body end with a 1/4 wrench (delivered with the bass) Finish : polyester transparent Sapphire Blue gloss Land of craftsmanship : 100% Made in Santa Rosa, CA USA Serial number : 91 H 6521 USA Year : 14th of June 1991 Weight : 4.280 kilos Action : from 1 mm under the G string to 1.5 mm under the E string at 12th fret (can even go lower, but was perfect for me) Will come with an used Thomann Panzer hard case (with a bump near the left locking system : see photos). Non-smoking environment as usual. I'm only selling this bass because I'm thinning down the herd for the reasons mentioned above and even if it's a terrific bass (that neck pickup is just bloody awesome), the 32 inches scale and narrow strings spacing at the bridge is always bothering me. And it looks like a banjo on me. This bass was originally made for Mesa Boogie Germany as a special order. A previous owner had some chrome Flush Mount Dunlop Straploks fitted (see photos) and the strap parts are, of course, delivered with. The bass has been fully set up professionally. It has received a new battery and is fitted with a brand new set of Alembic CX-3/45L compression wound nickel steel alloy strings (45 - 65 - 80 - 105) that really fit the bass to perfection. What you see is what you get ! Look at the photos taken under different angles to see the real condition : almost in new condition with some scratches, the most "important" ones being two dings at the rear (one bigger) and two small dings hard to photograph at front without forgetting the mandatory ones at the headstock. I tried to photograph everything, so please, look at the photos in the link below. Here is the link to the 50 photos in high resolution : https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1l7WV0jeZy3veqFLmpTmT4tC-2C8y6_F6?usp=sharing Don't hesitate to ask for more.

You can either let it automatically choose to generate a thumbnail from your first uploaded image, or upload a specific one when you write your advert. You can also hide the thumbnails if you don't like 'em. I hope it makes browsing the Marketplatz even more attractive. Items you've viewed will be greyed out slightly upon seeing them again. 32. I ordered the passive long scale for several reasons, one being I really wanted a natural Ray with black hardware - but the other thing is the sound from 5:30 in the video in the OP - passive tones with mutes engaged - sounds fabulous!!

  34. Port placement doesn't matter, as the radiation pattern from a port is 360 degrees. What does matter is the size of the enclosure. Larger enclosures go lower and louder. In most cases the reason for putting ports on the back is that the enclosure is too small to fit them on the front. Boom is also typical of too small enclosures, and it has nothing to do with port placement either.

  36. SOLD 14kg of punchy bass cabinet. 2x10 Ashdown speakers, easy one hand carry. 250w at 8ohms. Input and link, jack/ speakon connections. Switchable horn. I've had this since New in mid 2018. It has been gigged, (of course, why else would you own this?!) but taken good care of. No rips in the tolex, only very minor marks on the corners. It hasn't even done all of my gigs as I like to travel light and use my 1x15 as my preference. Selling due to incoming gear and my preference for a 15inch speaker. Buyer to collect from St Albans area ideally, or I'm in Stevenage quite often. PM me with any questions.

  37. Apologies @DarylClayton has a beautiful 2024x at £1500 @azumi has a 2024 at £1500 Both worth every penny - not much will get close at that money for a do it all bass… there’s a lovely looking bbp34 at £900 which is a great (and tempting) price

  38. To my mind - not enough to justify the huge gulf in price - I’m pretty sure the 1024 was about £600/£700 new and the 2024 was about £2000… the 2024’s I played never disappointed but also never made me giddy…at current used prices though (think there’s a nice sunburst one about £1500) you’d be very hard pressed to get better. The 1024x I had was a beauty - I absolutely regret not keeping it - but I will say, the rough and ready sound of the 424/414 suits me better - the extra refinement of the 1024/2024 would be a waste on my skill set - like giving fine wine and caviar to a chimpanzee.

  39. 625 doesn’t exist… 414/415 were passive 614/615 active 3 eq, no passive mode 414/614 then replaced by 424/1024/2024 - all passive, different country of manufacture, various wood treatments and pickup variants (all based on p/j though) modern day equivalent 434 = 414/424 (passive p/j) 734 = 614 (active p/j) 1024/2024 - bp34 (passive p/j but “posh”) 414/424/614 all 4 string 415/425/615 all 5 string

  44. Great Thread I still can't get my head around EB bringing out a budget line and calling it Sterling (CEO vanity perhaps) I have a full fat EB USA Sterling, and it's sublime. The quality of the finish and the very slim neck as well as very sturdy high Quality hardware make it a joy to play. I owned it years ago and part traded it, I was very lucky to manage to get it back. It has a one piece Ash body with very unique grain and a matched headstock. It was modded by a previous owner with a Nordstrand vintage pickup, So it has the vintage voiced Alnico pickup, making it sound closer to a Stingray. I occasionally think I could sell it and get one off the far East Sterling SB and unlock some cash, but then I pick it up and I know id regret it. The USA made Sterlings are so well made and as stated smaller bodies and thin necks, great for smaller fellows like me 😁 also they are good enough for Joe Dart etc 😂

  46. This was my rig at our first gig since lockdown a few weeks ago. Since then though a CTM300 has been added to the collection so I've included a couple of pictures of the amps and cabs I have to choose from (which could in theory all be combined into one big, slightly ridiculous super rig). The CTM300 will get its first outing at a biker get together on Thursday.
