Plus one to the utter rubbish of referring to one's bass as 'she'. I'm not sure if it's more sexist, creepy or plain weird. Makes my skin crawl. (Same in the case of those idiots who refer to boats, ships and cars as 'she'.) Whenever I've referred to my basses as 'he' in revenge, I've been immediately corrected - bl**dy foreigner that I am - and told it's IT in English, not HE. Oh, really? 🤦♀️ Short scale only for wimmin - heard that, never took any notice. BUT: - Petite lady? Get a Jazz bass, the neck is lovely and thin, you'll be fine. (Forget about the horrible, misshapen, heavy-as-hell body, though, will you). Heh.7 points

EDIT - 100% original made in the US Suhr bass, you can check talkbass for more info on these, superb jazz basses, top of the line. Got this recently, my first jazz in 15 years of playing:) I love the sound, I love the neck, but long story short, my right hand can't get to terms with the offset jazz bass body. And my wrist has started aching in the seated position. It is honestly a heck of a jazz bass, at least on par with us sadowsky and lull.(not my opinion, but from a couple of friends with such instruments and experience). EDIT - Amazing sound on this, sustain, warmth, definition, attack, growl, punch, you name it. No discernible usual fender dead spots. Alder body quilted maple top one piece maple neck and fretboard 20mm bridge string spacing, 38mm nut Slim neck front to back, very nice suhr single coils suhr electronics (bass, mid, treble) volume/volume(pull for passive) - no passive tone, you have to lower the volumes for decreased treble response. badass bridge 4 kg mint condition balances perfectly seated and standing. 1990 pounds shipped to EU and UK. Just as an update. Got a full refund from Reverb and I was told that if the bass ever did turn up to just either refuse it or, if I wanted to keep it, to get back in touch with them so they can help me pay for it again. They said that as the seller hadn't communicated either with me or with them they assumed that the bass had never been given to a courier in the first place so they would refund me straight away. Hoping the bass doesn't now show up (though it was a rather lovely one Thank you for all your comments and advice. Looks like Reverb and PayPal are used to this kind of thing and can sort things out pretty quickly once they've been made aware of the situation. Now just got to look for another bass to take it's place5 points

Fender American Dimension Deluxe HH 5 string in natural with maple neck. Spec is below. Condition is good, no gouges in the finish although there are some minor surface dings. Neck is lovely and smooth with no chips or marks. Case is original, with keys, a bit marked here and there and a small hole in the lining where the tuner rubs and case candy included. Hey folks! Had a bit of a tinker yesterday and made myself a bass mute. Works really well I have to say! Had an offcut of Auralex foam in the shed from an isolation pad I made a few years ago, cut it to size, cut a piece of softwood to size and painted black, glued them together and cut slits in the foam.4 points

George, darling, I thought we’d agreed that the George and Mildred soubriquets were only to be used on those ‘special’ evenings that, sadly, have been stolen from since this cursed corona wotsit forced us all into lockdown? But you make a good point - our guitar chap has both a Helix and, er, the other one - can’t remember it’s name, not a kemper anyway - and he really likes them. So now I have a quandary. Option one. Play songs in such a way that a fiver is not needed. Option two. Retune one of the less-used basses in the stable to BEAD and hope there’s no need to climb up to the G string (oo-er, missus). Option three. By an inexpensive fiver with narrower string spacing to see if that works. Option four. Get a fancy floor unit such as Osiris describes and pitch shift the problem away. Option five. All of the above in stages over the next few months. Given my propensity for GAS (which has kept many BC members furnished with high-quality, barely-used basses and amps at knock-down prices for several years now), I think we can all see where this is going to end up, can’t we boys and girls?3 points

Look what arrived yesterday - My long-awaited Spector Forte 4 in Trans Black Satin. It is a custom order that is modelled on a NS 4. It comes with 2 EMG 35DCX humbucker pickups, 3 knobs (volume, blend, stacked bass and treble), and the HAZ 18V preamp. It differs from a NS 4 by having swamp ash wings, no fancy tops, no high gloss finish and no inlays. It is pretty much a no-frills version of the NS 4. As I do not own and have never played a NS 4, I do not know how close it comes to the original. However, what I do know is that the sound is huge (sorry, neighbours 😉 and it nicely complements my other Spector basses. Big shout-out to Mark and Ash at Bass Direct for making it happen!3 points

Mildred my dear, or may I call you Skinnybabes? Anyway, I see you've listed your Magellan (you'll regret that) and are now DI'ing into the PA. I'm going to suggest that you bin the idea of a 5 string altogether and get something like a Helix Stomp instead. Not only will you have a ton of amp and cab models for DI'ing straight into the PA but there's a number of options in there such as the Simple Pitch block that does a very convincing pitch shifting for lower (or upper if that's your thing) tunings. I was using a Stomp with the last band who were on IEM's and used the Simple Pitch for anything lower than an E, it worked a treat and nobody noticed that I was cheating, not even the keys player who was very picky about things sounding right. The Stomp will work out much cheaper than a decent 5 string, will allow you to continue to use your current basses and will also give you a tuner, compressor, HPF and a shed load of other toys in one box. More importantly it has lots of bright coloured LED's on it.3 points

PRICE DROP £775 For sale or for trade - black and maple Squire JV bass (82-84 - not 100% sure of the year). In great condition with just a couple of small dings (biggest one in picture). Original white scratch plate included (this is a black Bass Doc one). It's a lovely bass, sounds vintage as it should with flats and is a lovely weight at 4.19kg. The neck is just a little too wide for me otherwise I'd keep it. Currently strung with low tension Thomastic flats - if you don't want them I'll knock £50 off and stick on some old Fender flats. It's set up for these low tension strings though so it may need a setup if you decide to change the strings. It came with normal flats on and had a nice action on it. No case as such but we can figure out the best way to courier it if we need be (I can source an old hard case or maybe a meet up). I'd really love a 5 string bass and if at all possible a single cut as I want to try playing with a high C and have always fancied a single cut. But try me. Could also be persuaded to add cash or accept a bit of cash if the trade was right. PM me with any Q's.2 points -
SOLD And down we go. The market has spoken so let's try £160. A rather splendid candy apple red Precision is yours for £180 quids. Happy to split the postage with you if you can't collect. Also I will throw in a used but serviceable hard case. Indonesian made, at the Cort factory in 2005, strung with flats, the neck pick up has been upgraded to a Seymour Duncan. These were well regarded members of the Squier family, and were officially discontinued in 2011. Currently with a tort pickguard and pick up cover but I can switch that for a white pearl if it's more your thing. I found one hair scratch on the edge of the neck at around the fifth fret and some more extensive but in no way deep scratches to the back. I've not been able to catch the scratch on the edge of the neck it really is that fine, the scratches on the back I've illustrated with a picture of the neckplate. Stunning Vigier Bass in Clear Red. In great condition apart from a little buckle rash and a few very minor dings. A myth oft held by the non-musician public..... that if you play bass you automatically like any music featuring a famously busy or prominent bass player such as Level 42 or Red Hot Chili Peppers. And if you are a beginner bass player, to recommend those same bass players (e.g. Mark King, Flea) as role models to whom you can aspire..... regardless of your musical tastes or genre.2 points

Okee dokee for @JohnDaBass I have recorded the bass for people, it’s 9 mins worth so be prepared to use it for sleep purposes. Its a really versatile warm sounding pick which chugs nicely I believe, and is quiet as a church mouse. The pick up recorded The order Is always finger then pick Stellartone Bass ten Tonestyler always 4 clicks From wide open, which will give a flavour of a decent tone roll off. Straight into Logic Pro X via a focusrite Flat Flat and Tonestyler SVT setting on Tech21 PSA 2.0 SVT and Tonestyler DP3X DP3X and Tonestyler If that makes sense Same REM song REM Telebass.m4a2 points

Looks great! I slide foam under my strings and like that method because I can stop before the G string and leave it unmuted for accents. I guess you could do it with this type by moving the block up a string.2 points

for what it's worth, I'm new to Sandberg and found that the VM's are fairly modern sounding if you're used to the Fender thing.(like I'am) they are just a bit different (the reason I bought one). Only used mine at practice a couple of times but found it fills the space nicely and not left wanting.2 points

I saw "The Commitments" (only 2 of the original lot were in the band, including the guy who was the mad drummer in the film but was now doing lead vocal, and not much cop at that sadly) some years ago... the bassist was playing an Alembic Mark King with a huge Trace stack, and yes he took a slappy solo. I do remember looking at my watch a few times.2 points

Was a bloke at my local open mic night that used to turn up and do All Right Now every week on a really flash active 5 (possibly 6) string. It was a dark honey translucent finish multi ply thru neck with figured wood. It always thought it was a bit inappropriate when he turned on the LED position markers for the interlude.🤮 I think the original was played on an SG bass, although Andy later switched to something a bit more exotic looking.2 points
