1. Hi Owen, long time no see I remember Humph playing a dark green Fender, but I thought it was a Precision. Then again knowing Humph he may have had a matching Jazz.
2. Okay, that's it - I'm going to leave it, there are too many question marks......... Thanks everyone, it's been a lesson in the dangers of buying used Fenders without provenance.
3. Thanks again It's advertised as USA but I'm not sure the vvt is correct for a 62 reissue. I will ask the seller for more details and a photo of the back of the head stock - I wonder if the US reissues had an extra strap button there, (I believe the Jap ones did).
4. Thanks P.S. There is a photo on the listing with the neck removed, showing the numbers 1/16/85 and the serial number on the neck plate looks to start with V. But I thought the '62 reissues had stack knobs - is this not the case? Are these series of basses generally regarded well or not and does the price seem reasonable?
5. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/263559001702?ul_noapp=true Can anyone tell me if this is a genuine item? Zooming in on the photo of the headstock, seems to show the logo sticker applied over the lacquer and I'm not sure it is the correct logo for the period. Any advice gratefully received.
6. You might like TIs from what you say, if you can get along with the low tension.
7.
I bought one of these, fantastic for the money, £69. http://www.dv247.com...r-black--214224
That looks smart - how does it play and is it heavy?
8. Thanks, I would love to play one of those.
9.
It's the bass I have with the least cross-talk between notes.
What does this mean please?
10. if you like TIs why not get the short scale version?
11.
I use an Avalon U5 pre > Crest CA9 power amp > Barefaced Super Twin
Thanks - I would love to compare that 1800w to my puny 500w rig
12.
I play with a deep, clean tone, and this needs more power than usual. I've tried various amps ranging from 100w (valve) to 440w (ss) to 900w (class d) None have come close to the tone that I get (at gigging volume) with my "overkill" 1800w SS amp All of these amps can do gigging volume, but it's about the tone.
What is the "overkill" 1800w SS amp you use and what cab(s) do you use with it? I also play with a deep, clean reggae tone and I'm quite happy with my Markbass LM11 into 2x15" cabs, but it lacks the sheer oomph of a big rig.

14. Growl can come from the pick ups and some basses have it regardless of outboard signal processing. Adjusting the pick up to be closer to the strings may increase growl. Over wound pick ups may also help and there are custom replacement pick ups that may do the job.
