Side by side with the walnut natural finish. Both identical bar the finish give or take. Also next to my original ‘69 P5 points

Here it is together with my hand-built P. I’m really impressed that the BB compares the way it does. Getting one of these used is just silly value for money.4 points

Always willing to help, but Steve was rather clear about the purpose of the thread, and as a classical musician, I'm not savvy in these things (I always bought an extra seat for my 65 stop pipe organ on one side and for the other organ on the other side, and that was that). That said, If there's anything I can do, @Steve Browning, just send me a PM. You could also have my mobile phone number just in case. Oh, and if you happen to be in the extreme South of Norway, then I'll buy you an extremely expensive beer! (not as expensive as the £15 pint I bought next to the Notre Dame - they should've burnt that café to get even, not the goddemn church!)3 points

Hello, friends I will sell most of my basses, so let’s start with my Modulus. As you can see in pictures, is a 1990 bass, in excellent condition, even the frets are almost untouched. Great sound too. Alder body, quilted maple top, graphite neck, phenolic fingerboard, EMG PJ - 45J + 45P - configuration (reverse P, to be more accurate), EMG 2EQ preamp. 35” scale, 17 mm string spacing at the bridge, 4,3 Kg on my bathroom scale. Equipped with D’Addario EXL-170, as the manufacturer recommend. Plus a new set of strings. Plus a non-original hard case. The price is 2100€ (only Euro, please), shipping in EU included. No trades, please! Thank you!2 points

BC marketplace comes up trumps again and sorts me out with just what I was after, thanks to Bobby D. Fancied something a bit gnarlier and more straightforward than my J and, having already tried this out at a rehearsal, I think it could be just the ticket. I’m now sold on replacing the flats on my J (which were on it when I bought it) with rounds – I really like the feel but the amount of snap I want for the sort of things I’m playing just isn’t there. I’ve always preferred a Jazz neck, but I think a combination of this one not being too hefty and me being more comfortable with playing bass than I’ve ever been before mean this isn’t too bad at all. Also, it seems like the slightly smaller body than the J puts the neck in a marginally more comfortable position to reach the lower frets – has anyone else found this, or am I being a weirdo? Next steps for the P are: flip the pickup round, and while I’m at it get a black scratchplate. Anyway, here’s a picture of it with the J and a bonus, additional beast.2 points

Two whole decades after my last bass guitar purchase I've finally lashed out and increased my collection by 100%. But - you ask - what can it be? A classy Fodera? A Wal? An original stack-knob Jazz with OHSC?2 points

Hi all, due to recent activities i find myself with 3 sei six strings, my first one willl be staying with me as will my new one i got last week. so here is the one i prob will play the least. flamboyant 6 , scale is 34 /35 see pics (i think) 18mmm at bridge.shallow neck acg filter pre amp, bartoloni pups, not sure what top and headstock facings are but stunning anyway ,the back is interesting its all flamed maple (not sure about the wings but they are flamed), and its awesome ,( i think martin may have thought whats the sense in covering a grat bit of flame) birds eye maple fingerboard. open to decent offers or very very interesting trades . if there any sei 5 jazzes out the or bernie goodfellow jazzes will got straight to top of pile or as i said anything interesting then fire away. i probably will withdraw id just thought id give it a go.2 points

Well I am enjoying watching Sheryl Crow who is and always has been gorgeous and a great artist. Bassist using Reverends, guitars, piano, drums, lap steel - legend2 points

For a quick fix - I found some rubber grommet thingys that fit over the mute adjusters. Works for me, because I often use the top adjuster as a palm rest (and for some styles I hook my little finger around the bottom one), and the knurled bare metal was making my hand sore.2 points

I have a dodgy back and a lighter bass along with moving to a short scale both helped. I think having less extension on my left arm, and less stretching the wrist around the first few frets really helped in my case.2 points

I received this cabinet along with the Ashdown LB30 head as part of a cabinet and head purchase from the GuitarGuitar Pre-owned section. I have subsequently bought a Barefaced One10 to replace the cabinet in what will be a home setup, as a result the Ashdown cabinet is up for sale. Its a 8ohm 250w cabinet, previous owner has removed the feet at somepoint. Its in very good conditionjust a slight mark to the right of the cabinet. Price includes delivery.1 point

Hello. i hope I’m not too cool for this forum as I’m a drummer with bass fixation. I’m looking to start learning bass as a means of being able to understand the conversation between the lead and bass but obviously, not tell them I till I know something, then POW - yeh you should of played a F when it was an L. That sort of thing. its always drums n bass keeping it real whilst the lead and singer ponce about. Looking forward to sourcing my first bass, hopefully off’v here and learning stuff from you lot. be kind, at the moment I can only hit round things with bits of wood1 point

SOLD: Was planning on keeping this one but since the arrival of my Stingray Special (the blue sparkling beauty) it's unlikely to get a look in again so may as well sell it on as it's just sitting on the wall looking pretty and begging to be played. It's a fantastic piece and was my no1 bass until i got my Special - it surpassed a previous USA Stingray i owned too. The Ray34CA is essentially based on the newer Classic Stingrays with the slab style body and varnished neck and the sort after 2 band EQ. This one has been upgraded with a Bartolini pickup which A/B'd against the original gives a much smoother top end and less 'zing'. But if the the classic Stingray zing is your thing then the original pick up will be included. There are some spare pick guards, black and i think i have a white pearl, that i will throw in. There is also a thick padded gig bag and i can leave the Hipshot D tuner/Xtender on for an extra £30 - original tuner of course included Lovely bass really, can't go wrong, think around 9.5lbs in weight from memory but happy to weigh again. The bass is pretty show room immaculate but there's bound to be usage marks I've missed I should imagine. The neck whilst described as jazz width feels like it sits somewhere between a jazz and precision - I found it extremely comfortable to play. You have probably guessed I really like this bass but I'm slowly working down my collection to what i use and need. So an exceptionally good Classic styled Stingray at half the price of a second hand USA Classic, i'll leave it here for a few days and then probably advertise it elsewhere too.. £525 or £500 collected from Plymouth, Devon. Postage overseas likely to be more. PM for further details. Not interested in trades thanks.1 point

I guess they'll do, it just seems like the barrel size is small for speaker cable.1 point

I have 6 of these. All my basses are Precision shaped and these cases hold them without them moving around inside. https://www.skbcases.com/music/products/proddetail.php?f=&id=23&o=&offset=&c=84&s=75 The lifetime guarantee is a huge sales plus to me.1 point

Gotcha, I do now notice that you said 'combo cabs' and that does make sense. Maybe I should stop skiving at work and then I would have the time to read posts properly. 🙂 To answer the actual question: I don't know of any female/female 1/4" couplers or male/female extension cables that can handle speaker-level signals. To be fair, at the voltages that bass amps use I don't like ANY 1/4" connections, but as you've noticed, they're your only choice here. You may have to make one.1 point

The crossover and driver combination will determine the final impedance of the cab. 2 8 ohm drivers in parallel will give you a nominal 4 ohm cab (technically it's not that simple as impedance is a function of frequency, but it'll do for this example), 2 8 ohm drivers connected to a crossover network could end you up anywhere as the crossover plays as big a part as the drivers do.1 point

I removed mine, but this a much nicer and simpler fix. 👏👏👏1 point

Good fix. I might do what Rick Parfitt did, and borrow a tyre from my boys Lego box. Thanks.1 point

I use the Stagg version of that for my Barefaced 2 x10 and Rumble head. Perfect! My ears hear what I'm playing rather than the backs of my knees and the sound and tone is not effected at all. Go for it.1 point

I asked the same question once as was told by the experts that both 8 Ohms speakers (mid & woofer) will stay 8 Ohms with a crossover. Don’t ask me how it works I’ll let others chime in1 point

No. (There are no quality jacks to transfer that much energy from amp to the cab. Speakon is far better an alternative. But this is my very subjective point of view.) If you split the bass signal to two, you could drive both amps and cabs. A stereo chorus maybe...1 point

There is much to admire about the 'explosion in a Swarovski crystal factory' approach but it would clash with my intention to pair the instrument with a stage costume comprising white tie and tails, this in keeping with my plans for a one man Fred Astaire tribute act. Tappa tappa!1 point

Beautiful Status S2 classic 5 string bass for sale! Check out how she sounds here :- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmX6wjD5NKk Bought this bass a couple of years back and it's been superb! Plays beautifully and is in immaculate condition. No dings or scratches. Built in July 1998. Pickup configuration here:- http://www.status-graphite.com/status/frames/index_home.html More info on the Status website here:- http://www.status-graphite.com/status/frames/index_home.html It's set up perfectly, nice low action, no buzzes or dead spots,it really is a joy to play. Only reason for selling is that I've got too many basses and this one doesn't get the use it deserves. Will include a new set of Hotwire strings and an old soft case if you need it. Please note that this is collection only as it has no hard case. Based in Leicester. You're welcome to come and try her out but please give me a few days notice to arrange something. I'll try my best to answer any questions you may have but most of the info will be on the Status website. Thanks for looking!1 point

OFC (harrumph) this list is useless because it doesn't break Metal down into it's 19 true sub-genres, 14 associated moods and 5 extra dark undiscovered corners. /tongue1 point

Pickup height may be a factor, but it’s quite likely that the string height in the D & G is a bit low and they don’t have the room to vibrate before being choked off by the fingerboard. You’ll sacrifice a bit of ‘mwah’ by raising the string height, but they should sing more clearly.1 point

The more oblique point this raises is the idea of people going along "for the experience." To expand further: years ago, a good friend of mine went for the first time, and came back full of praise for the weekend. "Everyone should go at least once," she declared. I was, obviously, glad that she'd had a good time, but I countered by saying that I didn't see a great many artists on the lineup I'd have paid to see, so I'd probably pass if the lineup looked similar the following year. "It's not just about the music, though," she insisted, "it's the whole experience." Now, call me a pedant (and many people do), but if I were to go to lengths people go to in acquiring tickets for such a big music festival, I'd have thought that the music would be a pretty big component of that. Four days bumming around a city of tents and squinting at a leaflet to find an act you actually want to see doesn't sound like a "whole experience" I'm particularly keen to experience.1 point
