  1. Bass Amigos, Its Steve Fishman aka Steve Lawrence here. Someone asked about my gear and sound with Hugh. Missed this one by a decade or two. Its P bass for me and even the Burns bison (UK c.1980) is a PJ . Most of my basses have had J pickups (added before I found them) but I use the P pickup only as a general rule. I still have the Peavey Max but last several years have been using a Genz Benz Streamliner a lot. Theyre great but I dont love the eq with 3 fixed (not my fave) frequencies prolly to sound SVT-like SVT isnt my 1st choice. I endorsed PV and have a couple of T40s and a Midibass. I also have a cool vintage Carlsbro 200W valve amp for loud bands. Im currently doing projects incl Glen Matlock & The Maestros w Clem Burke and Gilby Clarke and Intergalactic (post psych postpunk). Im gonna try to look on this a bit more often. Love to all bottomly people!! XX Steve https://epi5050.com/musician

  4. This base is from 2014 as shown by the serial number. In fabulous condition as you can see from the pics. Just not getting any use so time to let it go. Come with its Fender gig bag. A very nice looking bass for sure. Weight is 3.8kg

  5. A very very reluctant sale indeeed. I first came across Chris Larkins instruments some +25 years ago reading an appraising review. As they never have been made in high volumes they don't come up for sale very often. Small series quality and attention to details from one of the best and most respected (deceased) instrument makers. Aquired this quite recently but the 35" scale on this design simply doesn't work for me. If you're used to Warwicks, Spectors, MTD's, Alembics etc. etc. you won't have a problem. I'm from the old school Fender ergonomics. Very clean condtion, only a few smaller marks on the lower body edges. Mahogony body and sandwich construction with facing of to me unknown beutiful veneer. 35" 24 fret mahogony and maple neck. Flat C shaped profile. Pls. notice, Larkin was one of the very few who used the set-neck principle. String spacing at bridge 18 mm, saddle witdth at 1st. fret is 44,5 mm with B to G string spacing of 36,5 mm center to center. Width of neck at 24th fret is 70,5 mm. Weight around 4 kg, definitely not above 4,5. Kent Armstrong PU's Schaller tuners & composite material nut. Bridge supplier is unknown, but obviously of matching quality EBS special series pre-amp. Volume, blend, treble and bass. Swith changes the pre-amp function making the treble pot a mid range boost function. Incredible punch! Sound: Yes the do sound like a Ken Smith (had a BSR5EG in the past). Unusual combination of Clarity, punchy and authority. But what is most noticeble is the dynamic of the tone . Never had an instrument which reachted so fast in the development of the tone. If you play slap funk, be-bop. fusion, avantgarde jazz or anything with lots of 16' notes and want to hear everyone of them, here's the instrument which will serve you perfectly. Shipping central Europe included. Trade: Yes absolutely, hit me with everything 5 string Regards Thomas WhatsApp:+45 6120 9520

  6. Against my own better judgment, I present 'Wishadelic Demotune', a mix of two of the great audible art installations of the past decade - namely, Psychedelic Tuning and the infamous Wishbass Demo from youtube. I apologise in advance if this causes distress or genuine harm. It may be an idea to remove small children or animals from the room first. Psychedelic Wishtune.mp3 EDIT: on second thoughts, I shall rename it 'Wishadelic Demotune'.

  7. We auditioned a so called experienced guitarist last week who has played for 50+ years. He turned up and spent a good twenty minutes trying to tune his guitar and he didn't mute it whilst doing so, I always record rehearsals and auditions, and the tone you hear in this clip of him tuning is the tone he used for every song we played regardless of the type of song. He didn't get the gig. Psychedelic Tuning.mov

  12. Just to name a few, I have a cool, Gibson Gold Top Bass, a 1991 Gibson Thunderbird, and two 2005 MIJ Fender P 1951 reissues. The only bass I gig is my 1993 made in America G&L ASAT bass (active pre amp). It's really the ultra narrow neck (maple with tons of Birdseye). The active pre amp is really nice. Maybe the big coil pick ups. The slab Tele body style. Daryl

  14. After a few beers at Christmas I ordered a knock off Dingwall from Ali express.. I woke up the next morning to an email from the seller asking what “customisations” I wanted.. what a treat.. a custom bass!!… so I went to town, orange finish, 3 x pickups, maple neck… and a custom headstock logo! It arrived this morning - it’s awesome!! Obviously it’s not actually a finely crafted, custom instrument - but the finish is pretty clean and it sounds good, all the electrics work and it’s very playable!! The hardware is a bit lightweight… but for £279… it’s a lot of bass!

  15. Sunburst/rosewood board. 2004-5. S1 switch. Nice action and good P bass sound. I’m selling this because I’ve just purchased a CAR one, so this one, which I’ve used for around 10years has to go. Over previous years I’ve used JV P basses (82-83) but some had faulty truss rods, so I went back to American. Nice condition apart from a few dings indicated and a little bit of black touch up to the body near the neck heel (hardly noticeable) Scratchplate non original. Frets very good. Nut width 41-41.25mm. Weight 4kg. Includes hard Gator case + strap Welcome to trial/test here in WV14 through my gear or yours. Can ship if necessary or close meet up. Cheers Geoff

  17. I got this on a bit of a whim recently on ebay as I'd been looking for a new bass for a bit. Whilst it's a beautiful instrument that looks and sounds incredible, it's just not for me. Made by RMI ( https://m.facebook.com/RamsayMusicalInstruments ) its in beautiful condition - see pics. And is a true boutique instrument that i got.for a bit of a steal - and can pass that on 👍 Info below... Width at nut: 50mm String spacing at bridge: 16mm Neck-thru-body construction 7-piece maple/swamp ash laminated neck Layered body with solid exotic top - chambered. Active 3-band EQ with volume (pull for passive) and balance. Dual-coil humbucking pickups Very open to trades - will listen to anything really (4 or 5 string). Meet up welcome, however I have a Hiscox case that I will include for the asking price (which is why its more than I paid on ebay).

  18. Hey everybody! It's taken me a while to get around to finishing this, but finally done! The only piece missing was the port rings. @SamIAm kindly scanned the one I had, and 3D printed me a pair! I've cleaned and sanded them up, made a foam gasket for the back side of the flanges, and added a decal to the front, just for fun! 😊 Thanks so much for your help with this project Sam!

  24. At one point I had over 50 guitars and basses, as well as a very well equipped home studio in its own dedicated decent-sized room. These days I'm down to 9 basses and guitars and 3 of those are only still here because I haven't got around to selling them. My studio is Logic running on my Mac that I also use for my day job. It was nice to have lots of instruments and studio toys, but many of them never got any real use, and TBH these days I feel I would be better off saving up the money and getting a decent amount of studio time with a good producer for my band instead.

  26. About ten years ago we were looking for a new drummer. First chap we tried spent over an hour setting up the biggest kit we had ever seen, and then proceeded to drown the rest of us out. Mutual agreement he wasn't the best for the band. Out of desperation we then tried a 14 year old kid who volunteered through a friend. Sort of did it as a favour as he had never been in a band before - turns out Sam was God's gift to drumming. He won the Yamaha U18 drummer of the year competition a year later, we recorded a bunch of Toto songs for his A-levels, and then he left us in his dust when he disappeared off to become a session musician! It was quite humbling to have a tiny part in his development.

  27. Modulus Quantum 4 For sale is this beautiful Modulus Quantum 4 with a nice cherry burst finish and stunning quilted maple top. Preamp and pickups are made by Bartolini. The preamp functions are; volume, pickup selector, mids, bass/treble stacked. Mini switches are for active/passive and mid frequency selection. The preamp output can be controlled by a trimpot. The bass is in very good used condition with a few small damages and usermarks. The scale is 35", which is a bit too much for me (when I bought it, the seller assured me it was 34"). A non original hardcase is included. Same goes for the straplock buttons. New price €2600 I am located in the Netherlands, but happy to ship at buyers risk.

  28. In today through the Lemonrock enquiry system: "I hope this email finds you well. My name is **** ******, and I am the manager of a pub located in ************. As we are exploring opportunities to diversify our live events offerings, I recently stumbled upon your profile and found it intriguing. I would be grateful if you could provide me with information regarding your pricing structure for live performances. Understanding your rates would greatly assist us in evaluating potential collaborations and aligning them with our budgetary considerations. I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your time and consideration. Please contact me on blah blah blah" First thing to note is that this is not a joke post. That's a cut & paste (anonymised, of course) from the email. Second thing to note is that those of you who haven't had office-based careers may imagine that this is what business correspondence looks like. It doesn't. In a 45-year career dealing with business correspondence of all sorts, I can't remember ever receiving anything quite as jargon-laden and turgid as this. Resisting the temptation to reply "We believe in peeling the onion by directionifying our key performance indicators into a transitional enhanced profitability status" @Silvia Bluejay replied seriously and honestly. In a reasonably long email about what we do and what we charge she used the phrase "cash on the night". A reply was received within seconds, mentioning the online payment system used by this pub's owners. Hmmmmm. And again, hmmmmmm. And thrice, hmmmmmmmmmmm.

  35. One issue with the Express is that the control of each effect appears to be severely limited, consisting of just the sweep of the effect knob through that effect's range, which "increases its intensity". What does that mean for, say, the OC-2 clone?

  39. I played a punch of gigs at Drummonds from 2008-2011. We generally parked at the rear of the building located off Denburn Road. At my first time playing I then had lug my Trace Elliot 1x15 combo up three flights of stairs only to find that the house bass amp was a...4x10 Trace Elliot combo with the same amp! I think that we had to shift the van after loading. It was fine but this was 2008 so that traffic issues wouldn't have been as bad as they are now.

  40. That is a good choice except that it has a built in mid scoop. I use the Orchid Classic and it is great. it does take the signal to the PA as it comes form your bass but it sound lie it would suit you well. I have a couple and could lend you one for a week or two.

  43. I agree this is what many in-house engineers would like and not an issue for a lot of folk... only problem is when the sound you are trying to create is integral to the band's overall sound. I play in a band where my bass/amp sound needs to try and replicate a particular tone (12 string sounding with a bit of drive on the top end). I specifically split my signal with the 'dry' signal going to the front end of my amp (to give a nice big bass tone), with the split signal going to a HPF > drive pedal > chorus/octave > to the rear attenuated input on my amp; I then blend in the effected signal to suit. This can then be easily sent premixed from my amps DI to a PA desk. Except when you get an engineer who is trying to insist he wants the DI before any of that stuff so that he can get a nice clean signal and get a traditional bass tone FOH. No thanks mate you've missed the point!

  46. We don't routinely record rehearsals, but have always recorded auditions so we're free to just play, but can then listen back at home to find out exactly what was going on. One singer, who wasn't comedically noteworthy but absolutely wasn't getting the gig on vocal merit, asked for the recordings. We didn't think that was an unreasonable request so clipped out the best take of each song, polished them up (as much as you ever can with a stereo mp3 from a field recorder in the middle of a rehearsal room) and sent them over, along with only a fairly brief "thanks for coming and nice to meet you, but we're going to keep on looking", since we assumed the recordings would explain all. They were fine with that - thanked us for our time and said it had been fun - but to our surprise also said they thought the recordings were great and asked whether they could use them as a demo to send to other bands. 🤷‍♂️

  48. I only had one bass (a P bass) for many years but now I have a couple of spares and I find my tastes vary over time so it’s nice to explore and experiment with new sounds etc. If I’m not using something at all I tend to sell it. No point having something that doesn’t fit in.

  49. I've seen plenty of folks writing that they've hardly ever used the Rick-o-sound. So I'm posting this in case anyone would like a listen to the 1st recording I've done with Rick-o-sound . I say in the video what I've done with the pups so I won't repeat it here. Any good natured ( positive or negative) comments on the sound I get with it are welcomed.
