  1. Sunday to Saturday am-dram run this week, a Christmas spectacular. All songs arranged by the MD and a very wide range of repertoire, so of the usual suspect Christmas numbers and lots of choral and traditional stuff as well. Long- start at 7:30 to 10:20. Used the absolute tiniest rig I could manage, iPad for chart, V7 into lmt500, db elbee 10 inch cab, no pedals just a clip on tuner. Will be out in 5 minutes tonight, will take a lot longer to get my wife (who’s in the cast) out of the bar, luvvie darhlingsss.

  3. Merchant City Music in Glasgow have just sent me a Reverend Triad in 'Periwinkle Burst'. Periwinkle Burst, is black around the edge and a sort of mauve/lilac, with a hint of grey, in the middle. Of the three colours currently available with the Triad, this is my preference. The neck and headstock are lovely. They are a dark roasted maple, which really fits the body colour well. The neck is a 5 part sandwich and the lowest part is a darker shade of roasted maple, to the others, which I think looks really cool. Appearance wise, I love it. It's well made too, I can see no blemishes or poorly finished parts. Using the bathroom scales, standing on with bass vs standing on w/o bass, it appears to weigh 3.8 kg The pick ups look like jazz single coils but they are, in fact, humbuckers, so there's no noise. I've been noodling with it this afternoon and I haven't yet found the position on the Strat style 5 way switch that I prefer. I thought I would find position 3 to be my preference, but maybe not, we'll see. The strings (D'Addarios, I believe) are new and I'll need to wait until they have lost their new round wound top edge before I really know what this bass will sound like, but so far, so good.

  4. Last year I I found a Riverhead Jupiter locally and fell in love with it right away so naturally I've kept a eye out for another. 2 weeks ago a Riverhead Unicorn came up for sale locally and I jumped on meeting the owner to buy it... to my surprise it was not Pearl White like my Jupiter or like it looked in the add... Pearl pink!! My jaw dropped! THE UNICORN of Unicorns! I found one! It was like a lottery win! This bass is amazing! I love it even more than my Jupiter... now to find a Riverhead Phantom to complete my 1st gen Riverhead collection.

  7. This is the tidepool blue finish I think. Really nice neck on this one, having played some horrible examples in the past - this is a good one. There is a fender hi mass bridge on this which I added as I prefer them, if you would rather have the original bridge I can include it instead as I think I still have it. Also, have the original white pickguard too. Why am I selling? Ive a Deluxe P that has a little extra with the active option. No drama or issues; bends or dents, and just restrung with a set of Ernie balls. Re trades, kinda need the cash, but you never know so just ask. price dropped to 450 as it needs a new home and I need the space. Can post within the Uk.

  8. Uh... Don't want to jump the gun, but it seems like I might actually be in a band now 🤣 We'd been in touch and they'd sent me some material. I'd listened to it twice that evening, then they sprang an audition opportunity on me at 2hrs notice on the following day. I said I'd go, but not to expect miracles. Hardest 4½ hours of bass playing I've ever done, but I think I left a good impression as they're straight back into wanting another rehearsal next week... (Edit- And another rehearsal next week, plus I get to leave my amp/cab at the rehearsal space...) And then today, out of the blue, another band contacted me to say they wanted my services. It never rains but it pours.

  13. I bought a Bass Collection Detroit P Bass from this very forum and wanted to do some upgrades. A few chatters have said that they’d owned these/played these and thought they were as good, if not better than the Mexican Fender models, albeit at a fraction of the price, which I would agree with. So first things first is to switch out the pickup and wiring, fit a neck bolt kit and get a set of flats on it. I’ve gone for a Montys ‘62 pickup which arrived today and boy do they go the extra mile with the packaging and presentation. I feel like this is going to be a pretty special build once it’s complete. I can’t wait to get this all together and hear it through the amp.

  14. Picked this up in a trade recently. I thought I was looking for a 'superjazz' and bizarrely whilst this really does tick all the boxes in that regard I'm just not bonding with it. I think I need passive basses tbh. Main specs are: 34 scale 19mm spacing 44mm nut Neck is flat and wide. I like it but it's a noticeable profile let's say. I've set the bass up with a medium-low action, almost flat neck profile and restrung with new ernie ball rounds. It is ridiculously easy to play. Pickups and bridge upgraded by the previous owner. Bart b-axis. Lightweight - I'd have to check but it weighs significantly less than my 4 string P bass. Will Lee pre-amp - so has the adjustable mid switch and rear dip-switches to set frequency and boost level. Sado preamp - bass/treble boost, vintage tone with active passive push/pull. Review by Lars is here: When the pickups have been changed I think they were wired back to front on the blend. Clockwise/forwards blends the bridge pickup and opposite for the neck. This feels the wwr to me but perhaps Sadowsky experts can confirm this is the norm? Anyway, not a biggie I just mention in the interests of full disclosure! A screw is missing from the B string tuner. Does not affect operation in any way other than the tuner will drop out when you remove the string. I did contact Sadowsky to see if you can buy replacements but the only to the whole tuner and I haven't gotten over to screwfix for an alternative yet. Previous owner had stickers on the neck. I have removed with 99% success. Close up you can see some marks but it is marginal at best. Fingerboard is totally clean and plays a dream. Happy to sell but also happy to trade. Re the latter let me know what you've got, basses only though unless anyone has an Ampeg PF50T they want to px.... could poss add cash on px too…. x

  15. I've always fancied one of these and I found one for sale at about 550quid delivered, new. Tone is good, doesn't feel all that different from my Ibanez SRs in neck shape, good Hipshot hardware and 16mm spacing. There's not a lot of flame in the front, but I don't care for the price, and it's subtle looking overall. I need to spend some time setting it up properly, but it's minor only and I could have played it live out of the box. Rushed pics taken in my jungle of a yard that hasn't been getting the attention it should as it's getting towards Christmas and work is hectic. As this is now my 6th 6, I think I'll leave it for a while unless I can afford an EHB1006MS.

  20. I bought the cheapest bass in the shop when I was starting out, and never changed the strings for about 15 years but I absolutely played the heck out of that thing. Only upgraded to a cheap 70s Fender much later, but buying a cheapie never held me back. I did records with it and everything. It was just the need to get going that spurred me on. Had more money been available I’d have spent it originally but £65 was all I had, so that’s what I spent. Beauty might be in the eye of the beholder, but when this is the cheapest bass in the only shop in town and you’re skint... I polished and babyed the Shaftesbury!

  22. Amazing 5 string Moon bass. The chosen bass of Larry Graham and Pino!! Love this bass but sadly just not using 5 strings so much. Comes with Moon hard shell case too. Has a great sounding Bartolini circuit in the bass, set out Vol vol treb bass. These go for a fair bit more in most UK shops (£2k+) and I’ve never seen one in this condition. Check the video (Apols for crackle, dodgy iPhone rig- the bass is dead quiet!) Also a lovely weight. Not too heavy at all! Thanks and feel free to ask me any questions.

  23. Mint condition Squier Mini P bass. I bought this to use as a back up for gigs but this short scale ain`t for me. This is 28.5 inch scale so just slightly longer than a 6 string guitar so perfect for guitar player or youngsters. The only thing that is changed is I fitted a set of Wilkinson tuners as the original ones weren`t really much cop. But don`t let the little fella`s size fool ya, it sounds just like a full size P bass. The Fender gig bag is also like brand new and can be had for £20 onto the price of the bass. Collection from Paisley or local meet up. Go on, you know you want to!

  25. Back after a "misunderstanding" with a fellow bass chatter. Really nice condition. Can barely find a mark on it. A couple of really tiny dents and some tarnishing of the hardware and that is it. Weighs 4.36 kgs...... which is 9.6 pounds.... on the digital kitchen scales. This bass needs no introduction. It's a beast. The only bass you might need, they say. Made in July 2018; according to the serial number. It's got a lovely dark neck. The pre amp is an animal. Trouser flapping stuff......... Brand new D'Addario 130 - 45's on it. Comes with it's very plush Yamaha Gig Bag. Balances beautifully. From 45 degrees to 90 degrees, no problem. This was the previous owners backup bass. I don't think it's hardly been used. Price is £495. I'd consider a trade with an Epiphone Les Paul Custom Thanks for looking. Collection preferred but could also post within the UK.

  27. I know it's not an answer to the question being asked but I genuinely think one of the most important things to learn as a beginner is how to do a basic set up. Nothing crazy, just neck relief, string height, intonation, pick up height, and nut slots if you're up for it. It can make almost any average bass into an excellent bass. Taking it somewhere to be done is all well and good but we're all different and if you don't know what you want/like then you're just getting what someone else thinks you should have. If your bass plays nicely then you'll want to play it, if it doesn't you won't. A basic set up is really very easy and can be done with less than a tenners worth of tools.

  33. If you want to make money out of your music, then playing live is the way to go. Even if your actual gig-fee isn't that great you'll be able to sell band merchandise. Unfortunately the sad truth is that T-shirts are by far the best earner for a band. Punters seem to be perfectly happy to pay £10-£15 for a band logo printed on a black T-Shirt that probably cost about £5 each to produce, but will hesitate over paying the same for your album in CD or vinyl where you may have spent several thousands of pounds on recording, mastering and actual production. Also if your not gigging your streaming and on-line sales revenue will decrease too. Case in point, while The Terrortones were out there playing almost ever weekend we would normally sell a couple of CDs or vinyl between each gig to people who most likely had run out of money to spend at the end of the gig. Were were also getting $10-$20 a month from downloads and streaming. Once the band stopped gigging our on-line sales and streaming dropped off fairly rapidly to the point were now despite our past popularity I only sell a couple of singles or albums a year and it takes over 12 months for our download and streaming revenue to pass the $10 threshold to trigger a payout.

  43. Totally agree! I bought the Sunburst around 18 months ago, and then later got the version Olympic White for an unignorable bargain price. Both are totally stock and deliver exactly what a Precision should. The only slight downside is the anaemic looking Indain Laurel fingerboards, which can be remedied with some Montypresso.
