  2. Here is my lovely Fender Japan FSR 62 Walnut Jazz bass with hard case. £850 This is a stunning bass to play. Very punchy sound, with more kick than my USA jazz. The neck is a slim “C” shape with a rosewood fingerboard and exceptionally smooth and easy to play. Weight is 8.9lbs My drummer will be upset this is up for sale as the walnut finish matches his favourite snare drum! The walnut finish is lovely and very tricky to photograph. The machine heads and bridge are a smokey black which matches the walnut finish superbly. There is a small ding on the back of the headstock which is difficult to show. it's difficult let go of this one go. Can meet up half way, within reason. Otherwise I will post it in the UK for £40 insured.

  3. Unfortunately I have to sell it … This is a dream bass! Wal Mk1 Bass from 1987 in ’like new condition’ (for its age), with a wonderfully shimmering Shedua Facing. Nothing is nasty rubbed off or scuffed, no major dings or dongs - please see photos. The only thing that could be criticized is a little bit of pot scratching. It doesn’t get any better! Weight: unbelievable 4.1 kg with the strap! OHSC: yes Unfortunately, this time only sales, I need the money… unless someone offers me a Fodera Singlecut 4/5 1: 1, then I could possibly be tempted. Shipping is not a problem and is included in the price.

  7. Dean B2 Bromberg signature 4 string..FOR SALE ONlY Now only £320 shipped..Bargain of bargains this!! Give away at this price, for this quality!! 😃👍 Reluctantly putting this wonderful bass up for sale..This is the second one of these I have owned after regretting selling the first one!! Why? I am funding a new bass and needs must..These are super rare. I believe because owners find them to good and versatile. I have not seen one for sale in the open market for 5 years!! I have been fortunate in my past to have owned a Peavey B Quad, which this bass is based upon, and bar for the Modulus neck the Dean wins the race hands down in my humble opinion, much more versatile!! Amber burst finish, Brass nut 1.5 inch, weight 8.7lbs, 34 scale, Grover tuners, Dean Jazz pickups, fishman bridge with Piezo saddles, Abalone B2 on the 12th fret, 24 frets all fully accessible due to deep cutaways on the bass. Basswood body, Beautiful flame maple top and peghead veneer, maple neck with walnut stringers and rosewood fingerboard. Controls, considerably easier to use than to look at. lol.By pickups front to back. Master Volume, Piezo Volume, selector switch, magnetic only/Magnetic and Piezo/Piezo..Back knobs. Stacked lower Bass cut/boost top treble cut/ boost. Middle knob..stacked knob at front, top volume bridge pickup lower volume neck pickup..This makes the bass capable of literally all styles of playing..Oh and yes really cuts into the mix.. A true joy to play jazz style neck.. Overall excellent condition for a 12 year old bass, a few dings, nothing major. neck pristine.Battery box latch works fine but plastic clasp chewed.. These basses new were £700-£800 new..and rightly so..This is anything but a low end budget bass, Think very top of the range Ibanez..I am asking £400 but in reality as they donk come up at all. I don't honestly know..I need to sell so don't be shy make me an offer.I can but say yes or no?😃👍 Will ship to mainland UK for £20 Any questions, please ask. Cheers.

  8. Hi All, 1983 Fender Jazz Bass with non original hard case, with a few changes to make it look more of a vintage model. Looks and sounds fantastic, though, helped by the installation of new electrics including EMG pickups (see pics), so routed for a battery. 1983 was a transitional year for the Jazz and this model would not have had ashtrays, a thumb rest, a chrome plate, so new holes to accommodate those add-ons, plus holes to add tort guard. Plenty of life in the frets. Happy to consider trades. Cheers, Si

  10. Have been thinking the same, but decided to just get furniture, electrics, heating and light up to the building, but not store anything. I’d be too worried all the time. We have a Rottweiler, but she’s likely to “cute” an assailant into submission currently, things will change in a few months mind. Is the building near to the main house? That is a factor.

  11. I'm still on with the final settling down and tweaking of the fretless and the Wal save but I have another live project on the drawing board - a single cut shortscale (30") for our very own @Matt P I get the impression that this has been gestating in Matt's mind for some time and, to be honest, Matt has done a lot of the hard work - which is great - that is, designing the concept and broad shape in the first place. This is my rough cobble together of Matt's sketches ( there should be round bits where my rubbish Inkscape attempt has given me sharp corners) with a broadly scale neck (albeit this shows a 4 string width rather than the correct 5 string width). This will have a headstock - this is just a quick full-scale view mainly of the body length and positioning for me to check out one of the critical design criteria...that is must fit into this: ..which is a 6-string electric Fender Jaguar guitar case. It will be a - through necked - single 5-string SimS Super-Quaded - Hipshot bridge and tunered - Ebony fretboarded - Mahogany backed - Laminated necked - top to back demarcated - sucked lozenged carved - 7lbs beauty - with this top: And I'm VERY excited

  12. This is going back to Overwater for a new nut and a setup. I am trying again! The reason I was giving up was that it was not setup properly. I live in a setup WASTELAND. I had paid someone to do it locally but it was not a happy bunny. I cannot give up so easily. I dissapoint myself on occasion with my lameness. This is my second try with the bottom F#. The 6th string just throws me off balance. I want to make it happen but reality bites. I am not going to manage it. It is strung with a new set of Newtone strings. F# up to G. If you want to go up to C I will discount the cost of a new C string from Mr Newtone. I have no idea when this was built but it must be on the older side. It is 36" scale and very red. The full instrument pictures look a bit Donald Trump, but do not be fooled. It is proper red. The original preamp has been replaced with an East. No idea when or why, but it does that East thing very nicely thank you. This is a substantial piece of wood and does what substantial pieces of wood do. It sounds substantial. It also weighs quite a bit more than a chambered Super Jazz. Be under no false impression that it is filled with helium. Do I wish I could make it work? Yes. Can I? No. As I said, reality bites. Before anyone asks it would be GREAT for metal. Price includes fully insured shipping in a mature Yamaha HSC. I do not need to sell it. The price is firm. I am not interested in trades, but thanks for thinking about it.

  16. Dunno about that but the link shows that one person is asking that much money for one. I'd be surprised if anyone would be daft enough to part with £260 for it, but then again in 2016 I thought only the terminally daft would cast a vote for an orange reality show conman.

  17. hi folks I picked this up recently and whilst its a very nice bass it just reinforced that I wanted a "proper" Fender P-bass (I prefer the balance of a Fender), and I can't justify both so I'm moving it on again. Kim Deal played the same model in the Pixies (see video below), it really is a nice sounding thing. This is a bass from the "legendary" Matsumoku factory, with some specs here: http://www.matsumoku.org/models/ariaproii/bass/csb/csb.html I've been led to believe this one is a 1981 model, maybe one of the Matsumoku geeks could confirm. The neck on this is in fantastic condition given the age. Its 32", and remarkably comfortable. On the downside, the body is dinged. A lot. Its not a case queen, please check out the photos. It has been used and abused by some barbarian at some point, I can't pretend otherwise. But honestly, the neck doesn't seem to have suffered! (see pics). It comes with the original case. Its not in the best nick, but I think its pretty rare to find a forty year old Matsumoku bass with the original case! Also, remarkably for an old case it doesn't smell like someone died in it. (😁) I still have the box etc that this was shipped in so whilst I'd prefer collection from Burntisland, Fife I can ship it if required. Complete photo gallery is here: https://imgur.com/a/xC5Apya

  18. For sale or trade a rather lovely ACG Border Reiver. Purchased from the gent that is EAD on here, original ad below. The clarity the ACG FB bridge and ACG FB neck pickups offer is fantastic, really open sound. Ergonomics are great, very comfortable to play both standing or seated. Neck has an asymmetric carve so very easy to navigate. You are hard pushed to find a better made bass in this price bracket than an ACG IMHO so price is firm. Overall condition of the bass is excellent, it has mellowed to a more golden colour than the pics suggest. Only moving on as trying to limit myself to 34" scale on 4 strings as I find switching between them easier. Swamp ash body 3 piece maple neck ART American Sycamore finger board SEQ Pre 42mm at nut 3.6kg (on Kitchen scales) Fusion Gig bag Willing to meet for collection following appropriate guidelines of the time within a reasonable distance. The Fusion gig bag is excellent but for insurance on postage I believe it has to be a hard case. I have one I could use but it's huge and heavy so shipping could be expensive. https://www.acguitars.co.uk/project/0310brss4/

  21. I am devasted reading these comments. I bought my Kay and spent many hours lovingly caressing her back to a pristine playable condition. She had gone through nearly 50 years of being chopped and changed around, but most importantly, being played. Then she came to me where she was given a new look and new lease of life in readiment for the next 50 years of her journey. To hear that she is considered "tat" is, erm, well, bang on the money actually. 😄 It started out life as cheap tat and will end its life as cheap tat, but that's what I like about it.

  23. BL always takes me back to 2006 when a DJ pal put together a band and had us learn one of the great man's albums. We then gigged with the DJ. As he faded the track out we took over, then after a suitable time he brought up the next tune. I miss that guy, and owning a music venue. When I was in my 30s it felt as if anything was possible. We would regularly form bands for just one or two gigs. Every other punter was a musician - or so it seemed. Our Christmas and NYE ensemble bands were something to behold!

  24. Fascinating. Great info - thanks. Well, last couple of jobs before final reassembly are done, including the strap buttons. For both buttons, but especially the one on the top horn, nowadays I always inset them - it's neater and much more secure. I just use a forstner to give me the rebate and then use the centre hole from the forstner to drill the pilot hole for the screw. And yes - this IS in the centre of the horn Then a drop of stain soaked in to the cut edges and they can be fitted: Final assembly to do - and then just the finished photos

  28. I put Blade B3 up for sale was Levinson. Reason I am looking for something lighter this is heavy 5,3 Kg approx. Ash body Maple neck Ebony fingerboard Active electronics 9v. It has one potentiometers in the electronics cavity to regulate frequencies and at the same time memorize the sound. It has wear in areas of the pickup and some marks on the back of the body without affecting the varnish or the instrument. The neck is perfect and comfortable to play. I ask for € 790 Recent photos I hope it ends up in good hands. It has a great sound. Best value for money. I hope it flies soon.

  29. Right, I can’t believe I’m putting this up here and trust me, it is very tentative. I bought this bass 12 months ago, and obviously, it has never been gigged or rehearsed. It is showroom condition. I had a custom pick guard made, and replaced the bridge for the way superior Babicz bridge. The frets were dressed by a top notch and trusted luthier. It plays like an absolute dream, and sounds simply amazing. The white sparkle finish is to die for. Why sell it then? Simple. I’ve fallen in love with another brand, and I simply want to own another one. It comes with the certificate, case candy, amazing Fender hard case, plus original bridge, and I’ll put the original pick guard back on it. This is in immaculate condition, and with a perfect setup. It currently has 45, 65, 85, 105 Dunlop Stainless Steel strings. It has a straight neck, fairly low action, and a beautiful compound radius neck. Happy to replace with a brand new set if this is your gauge. If not, I’ll leave the 4 month set on so you can replace with strings you prefer. Any questions, please feel free to drop me a line. Happy to post, but at the buyers cost, and of course fully insured. It will come fully packed in the original Fender box it came to me in. If you live locally to Cardiff / Penarth, I’m happy for you to collect following strict socially distanced rules. No trades please, and no silly offers, please. These are £1799.00 new, and this has had a tonne of work done on it to make it just right.

  30. Chowny SWB-1 with EMG 2 band active circuit with internally switchable (via microswitch) control to change treble settings. This is an older version of the bass in a colour that is no longer available. I upgraded the pickups to the latest Chowny X versions as the previous ones were a bit underpowered IMO. Scale length is 30.5" and weight by my bathroom scales is about 8lb (3.6kg). It's in very good condition although there are a very small number of minor blemishes. I've highlighted the most noticeable (2 hairline cracks in the finish on the back - 1 by lower horn, 1 near control cover; and a tiny ding going through the top layer of paint above the rear pickup). I'll pack securely and ship at buyers expense or meet up within a reasonable distance of Tunbridge Wells in a socially distanced complaint way.

  31. In all seriousness and to answer the OP's original question more directly, I did have a plan for my 50th birthday regarding a celebratory bass purchase. I decided on the bass in question a few years before with a view to getting it built for completion around the relevant time. A few e-mails went back and forth between the manufacturer and I regarding options and pricing, but it was going to be a very long wait unless I was willing to accept one of the couple that had already been built. For a number of reasons, I didn't pull the trigger and before I knew it, the moment had passed for a new build to arrive anywhere near on time. The day of my 50th came and went free of any significant bass purchases. I did buy a few that year, so don't get the violins out, but I didn't get to scratch the particular itch I had....until three years later! I found my '50th birthday bass' for sale and completely by chance, it had the exact spec I would have chosen - it was like it was meant to be. It was/is in absolutely mint condition and one owner from new - also a lot cheaper than a new one!

  32. Where does the tractor attach ? I assume the upper horn cuts the earth and the strings and lower horn sift it and turn it to the side before you start the next furrow ? The frets are for measuring depth of furrow cut ? is the brown colour from clay soil staining?
    2 points
  33. yes - simple. Remove all the hardware, take of the fretboard, fill the pickup routes, cut the wings off, put the new wings on, shape the new shorter body, attach the new fretboard and frets, put the bridge in it's new place, rout new pickup cutouts... put it all together and viola! I mean I guess you've saved yourself installing a truss rod compared to starting from scratch but hey ho!

  35. So the Sire arrived today. First impressions weren’t great as although Andertons had boxed quite well the inner sire box wasn’t sealed and th bass was hanging out the bottom! Luckily no damage (local DPD guys are pretty careful with parcels). Onto the bass. The finish was a lovely subtle sparkle blue and the paint was near flawless - just a couple of tiny marks near the neck pocket and on the painted headstock as it joins the fingerboard. The board is ebony with some lighter steaks and blocks and binding are flawless, as is the fretwork. Nut is good - E and A string slots need to be filed down maybe 0.5-1.0mm, which I’m happy to do, but playable right out the box. A quarter turn on the truss rod to straighten up the neck and it feels great to play. No need to adjust action or intonation. Neck pickup a little low on output but was too low so a quick tweak to raise it up a bit and all is good. Pickups aren’t hum cancelling but aren’t noisy even panned to a single pickup unless you crank the treble and high mids. Overall output isn’t massively loud but the payoff is active and passive are almost identical in volume. Passive tone is great, eq flexible and it sounds like a proper Jazz. Not thin and wiry, but not woolly and poorly defined. The bridge pickup maybe doesn’t have exactly that 70s ash Fender bark but is really be splitting hairs as it’s very usable as-is. Low B is really good - I mean as good as my Us Sterling 5 and is deport and clearer than any Fender 5 I’ve played or owned. A real surprise! Downsides? Well the tuners weigh a ton - I popped one off and on the scale with screws and ferrule, 1 tuner weighs 125g! However I have a spare set of Ultralites that fit and will knock about 350g off the headstock, which is a good thing as it’s got quite serious neck dive when seated (but then all jazz 5s do because of the offset lower cutaway). I predict it’ll be 4.3Kg with the new tuners (it weighs about 4.6-4.7Kg out of the box), which is lighter than most of the rest of my collection. Bridge is fine but the stacked pots are a bit awkward - move the the top pot and the lower one moves too (although I think the bottom pot can be lowered, might just have been screwed in too high). The finish inside the truss rod cutaway looks like it wasn’t quite sanded smooth before painting but that’s the only negative I could find with the finish overall, other than the two small marks I mentioned earlier. The main thing is overall the bass looks fabulous - but I did say I have a soft spot for sparkle, matching headstock and blocks and binding... So, the verdict? Stunning. For £450 I’d have this over a US Deluxe/Elite Jazz 5 anytime. I even prefer the tone to the Sadowsky MetroExpress I owned and returned. When you look really closely at every detail It’s not as high end a finish as those basses (but it’s 99% as good) but the tone is every bit as good, if not better, B is great and it looks fantastic. Even the rolled fingerboard edges in the binding are well executed. Everything is well executed, no rough sharp corners of obvious evidence it was built to a price. I’m well aware that at this price point you may get a duff one, but if this is representative of the average Sire, I can see why they’re selling like hot cakes. I’ve owned pretty much every high end bass out there (Ken Smith, Modulus, F Bass, MM, Warwick, Sadowsky etc) and if I had to take one bass to any gig, I’d take the Sire Well done, Marcus!

  36. Hi guys I bought this a few years ago as a backup bass and its spent its entire life in a hiscox case in the wardrobe. Probably has 3 or 4 hours play on it, tops. Not for any bad reason - I bought it as a cheap backup that was just never required. I'm letting it go cheap because I'm trying to cut down my gear and reclaim some space. I *think* its a PB-50 model, its clearly based on a 50s precision anyway. The neck is chunky, it has a 50s style Wilkinson P pickup. It also came strung with D'addario strings. Pickup and strings alone must be pushing the asking price... Disclaimer time: this came from Thomann marked as a "deco" model which means it failed their QC in some way. The neck and body are marked with a D as a result. I have never been able to work out why it was marked in this fashion. The electronics work, the action and relief are OK, it plays fine. But I don't want to mislead anyone. The finish is remarkably good for a cheap bass. In the photos I took outside the scratchplate looks a bit blotchy - this is just fingerprints being shown off in the sun. I'll polish them off. I don't have a box big enough, and frankly postage would cost as much as I'm asking. Happy to put this "on hold" for someone trustworthy until lockdown lets us meet people outside so that it can be safely collected (from Burntisland, Fife). 38. Buy cheap basses like I do, then nobody will want to nick them. But seriously, I would be highly dubious about that idea because peace of mind would be a priority for me. I wouldn't dare go away on holiday without taking every steal-worthy item indoors. I would have to have a big sign outside saying "Snake sanctuary"

  39. Be interested to know how much you lost on the Sandberg and if that was a brand new purchase and you just lost the normal new to used depreciation or if it was some other reason? My HB was £90 and I already had the pick up. If I route it for a reverse p I’ll still hang on to it and it currently sounds better than the cheap bass we have at work for our music/choir group. Worst case the HB will be left at the music room and I’ll use it there. Might fit the tone styler too and hear what that brings - the joy of doing the work oneself so no additional labour costs. Add a soldering iron to you upgrade costs and learn a new skill too while saving money! If you’re after a near mint used Sandberg then naturally you’re into four figure territory but then you could wait for the spec you’re after and I suspect there’s no rush your end. There are some bargains out there though. As you know I’ve pimped a Squier bass and very happy with the results so I’d still say just buy the HB, do the upgrades and if you sell it down the line you can shift the parts and not lose too much on it.
