  1. Well I’ve been after one for a while, spotted this for sale and after a few chats with @AndyTravis about what to look for and expect I bought it. Angry Ric he said. Absolutely spot on, man it’s killer and what a fat sound! Spot on for a bit Nirvana. Don’t expect to see it for sale, honest! It’s a keeper 😍 Look at it, round bottomed goodness 😂

  3. Ha ha, that serves him right. I bid on a bass a few years back and every time I placed a bid, another few small bids went on until it exceeded mine and then stopped. This carried on for a few hours on an otherwise quiet Sunday afternoon during which I became increasingly confident that I was bidding against the seller. Of course, he put in a pretty big bid with about 3 minutes to go expecting me to go higher but I didn't, just sat there waiting for the inevitable 2nd Chance Offer. Amazingly, that landed about 4 minutes after the auction finished, and was at the price the seller had pushed it up to. He said the 'bidder' had emailed him immediately informing him that 'he had put in a bid by accident and didn't have any money'. So lucky me could have it at the sale price Mr No Money had bid it up to (allegedly). I said I would take it at the value of the bid I had on the bass when Mr No Money started bidding earlier that day, about £200 lower, at which point seller started to get really angry with me and said I shouldn't bid on things if I'm not prepared to buy them, and furthermore that I was morally obliged to buy it at the level of my final bid or what's the point in eBay? Made my evening, and I enjoyed the Sunday roast so much more as the result

  4. It already sounds pretty darn decent. I'm now looking at either Nordstrand or Seymour Duncan (the Alnico version) but they do seem to be pretty similar. Anyway, here's a teaser:

  5. Well, why so long then, we have been able to make trade deals for a year, we seem to have replaced 19 so far. Got quite a long way to go. I will take that wager. But if we do it is because we can accept less from it than the EU will. True. If our money can afford them, and we get that deal. Umm.. I am not a fisherman, how in any way of anything is that relevant? Fishing is a tiny industry in the UK and the fish that we fish we have to sell to other people as we don't eat it. What is the point putting up trade barriers to people we sell the fish to. Still, its a shame when we were in the EU, we didn't have anyone who was prepared to support british industry as MEPs.

  6. Unmarked and as new NS5-XL Owned by me since 2004 and rarely used live. Siunds fantastic, thunderous B, active EMGs and strung with Hi-Beams which suit the bass perfectly. Absolutely no issues, C19 secure trial preferred in my home studio. No trades thanks, downsizing my collection is only reason for sale. Also listed elsewhere. Thanks for looking.

  11. I am naive enough to believe that politics should be all about economics and facts. I am done with this mindset that this clown troupe masquerading as a government have the remotest chance of negotiating anything which would benefit the people they are meant to be serving. Where is the evidence that they have even half a clue?

  13. Ha ha, very kind of you thanks. I did think about changing the title the other day, but didn’t want to tempt fate as it’s still not an operational instrument yet - oh, and I’m still just winging it really. You Tube has been very helpful 😎. Regarding the scratch plate, it’s going to be as close as I can get it to the Custom Shop Precision this build is based on - so Vintage White was what I ordered. The main differences between the two basses will be no block inlays, no neck binding and mine will work out at a fraction of the £7,749.00 price tag of it’s twin. The stacked knobs arrived just the other day 👍.

  15. I bought a bass body from eBay that I thought was one thing and turned out to be a bit different. Caveat emptor or whatever! It’s not a full scale neck pocket but exactly the size of the Warmoth short and medium scale necks. It’s a Jaguar body with a stingray pickup route as well as a p-bass which made me think of the island of Dr Moreau and his man beasts. Currently it’s got a black stain which I might take off, a bridge which is askew which I will remove and I’m hoping to build a preamp from @Passinwind I’m expecting to get a warmoth neck soon and start! Here is the body now with some wonky holes, a couple of snapped off screws in the mm pickup space and the misplaced bridge with knackered screws.

  16. Up for grabs is my Fender jazz, made in USA in Ivory White with a beautiful rosewood fretboard. It is made in the last year that Fender made basses in the USA, led by Dan Smith. I've read ánd heard that these basses are of good quality, with eye for detail (again). It looks stunning and plays very smooth: frets are in good condition, trussrod works fine and everything is original. Weight is 4.55kg and is perfectly balanced. Comes with a G&G Fender case. Just like the Fenders of the late seventies, i believe these will only increase in price. Note the marks at the bottom of the body: i've made some pictures of that. Shipping is possbile, at costs and risk buyer. I can arrange courier. Price is £1400 or close offers. No trades please. Thanks for looking!

  17. Begrudgingly selling due to work or lack of it during this pandemic. Both are pretty much as new condition. One is literally a month old. Both have the 4ohm or 12 ohm outer switch, meaning you can run a range of ohmage options. Ie 1 cab at 4ohm if using alone. 2 cabs at 12 ohm for a combined total of 6 ohm, or 2 cabs at 4 ohm for amps that go to 2 ohm. Super strong grilles on these. Very lightweight. Around 14kg. Extremely loud. Without losing any definition. Simply brilliant sound. Thes also come with expensive hotcovers in leather look pvc. Very well padded and custom made full wrap full velcro cover. So no side is left unprotected at all. So, in all a stunning lightweight, expandable rig, that can even be extended more. So you can run 3 of these cabs at 12 ohm, at a 4ohm total. I'll offer both together first. If I can sell both separately then I would be up for that. Currently these are £629. The covers around £60. Approx £700 in total. So big savings to be made. PS obviously the amps etc are not for sale. Just the 2 cabs and 2 covers.

  18. Shipbuilding still makes me cry, after all these years..... early Elvis Costello lyrics are just so clever and poignant. It's just a rumor that was spread around town A telegram for a picture postcard Within weeks they'll be reopening the shipyard And notifying the next of kin Once again.

  19. Whenever I see these basses I think of Adam & The Ants, their bassist Kevin Mooney used one on Top of The Pops and the 14/15 year old me was intrigued as everyone else was using Fenders or Rickenbackers.

  20. In regards to the pickup cover, I thought it was a bit odd to put it on seeing as when the bass was played in the hot chocolate video they showed, it didn’t have one on. I would have kept it the same as how it looked then.

  26. Both! Depending on how you set the compressor. You can have it set up like a limiter, high ratio and threshold, and fast attack, to tame any unwanted boosts. Great for agressive envelope filters, but beware of using it as a crutch rather than just setting your pedal levels properly, you don't want an overly squashed tone because one of your pedals is too loud. The more subtle effect compression has is in shaping the attack of the note - because there is an adjustable time delay before the effect kicks in, it can accentuate the attack of the note and make it sound more punchy whilst simultaneously evening your overall volume out.

  29. I have done it several times. Be firm but gentle. Fret nippers/pliers are essential to grab into and under the fret. Normal pliers risk issues. Rub a soldering iron over the fret to heat it before pulling. But obv don't heat it red hot. eBay. You're looking for thin vineer offcuts from quality woodworkers. Yes. NB. Defretting is the easy part. You then have to rub down the fingerboard- to curvature. Not impossible but scarier. Then you have to drop the nut slots. Ditto. It's all doable. And good fun. And you won't f it up so long as you apply caution, attention and common sense.

  31. @Chopthebass I hope yours has got black hardware and not the trashy gold hardware that this one has - otherwise you're likely to come in for a fair bit of abuse from ancient Egyptian admiring types on this forum 😁 Check out P13 / 14 of the thread for some NE2 chat and I posted a short review of it on 13th March 2018 (P13). And congratulations!! Dunno what other basses you currently have, but the NE2 is an absolute corker!

  32. Yep, fantastic underated UK made Valve amps. I had one, sold it then bought another as I missed it! Now one of my main amps. Super high end stuff, but people seem put off by the brand which is a bit crazy considering their pedigree. Quite a modern take on the standard big valve heads.

  39. @KiOgon. I have summoned him and like the genie of the lamp he will hopefully appear. Let me explain. Most cheap basses compromise on the electronics. Entwhistle pickups happen to be both cheap and very good, but not quite the same can be said of the wiring. KiOgon will replace your existing loom with the very best quality components in a replacement loom. I have one on my Revelation P bass.

  42. No, but that was the same before so it hasn't changed. US bass pedal? I don't think I have any US equipment. Well, I have a gibson guitar, and a fender bass (although that is japanese). Yep, there isn't much of any interest made in america. Which - we have a free trade deal (which could be possible), or we get cheaper bass kit? I mean, we already lost the second one, so that seems unlikely. A flea Jazz is £1099, it was £882 when it was introduced. It is $1225 in the states, and hasn't changed price. So you are thinking that after all the dust has settled and we have this magical deal, the fender flea is going to be less than £1099? This is my newly developed, fender flea index

  45. More decisions made, going with the 1 MM pickup, 5mm further towards bridge compared to the classic Stringray position. Cavity for pickup all done, control cavity getting there but needs further work.

  46. Great thread! So one of my lockdown projects was to build a pair of isobaric speakers... managed to pick up four Seas bass units for not much, and built these cabs as a slightly more aesthetic alternative to rectangles - the bass units are 8" and there is one hiding inside the cab, so it can't be any narrower. Paired them up with some fountek ribbon tweeters. A bit of crossover tweaking and hey presto... huge meaty bass and drums, breathy midrange and delicate tops. My 5th attempt at speaker design, so a huge surprise at how great they sound. Upset my brother when we compared them to his very pricey Wilson-Benesch's. A shame those bass units aren't made any more, otherwise I might be going into production 😂

  47. I’ve had an entertaining afternoon shielding the pick-up and control cavities. I’ve never done it before and it’s quite satisfying, even if the shielding tape seems to have a mind of it’s own as soon as the backing has been removed. Loves sticking to itself 😬. Still have the wires to go in, but that will have to wait until tomorrow.

  48. Thank you all so much for replying. I have just been very jammy and picked up a new Fender Rumble 100 for £250! I cannot wait to do some bass practice through a proper amp rather than through my 15w Stagg guitar amp!
