  1. Buy it. Take out all the electronics and replace them with expensive ones. Have it defretted. Then realise the true meaning of "don't need" and "can't play" with the added sting of it no longer being a bargain. That's what I would do!

  2. TBF I'm a bit dissapointed that several BC members seem to be seriously advocating pulling out of a contract you've committed yourself to. If it was another BC member you'd stiffed (might yet be for all anybody knows) I'll bet it would be a different story. 'Man up, pay up and deal with it' would be my advice.

  4. I don't understand why you put a bid in if you didn't want to buy it. You saw the reserve wasn't met, thought you'd be "safe" with a low bid and ended up winning. What were you trying to achieve? Time to man up and pay the bill, if you don't like it then just sell it. The other members here advocating people pulling out of paying to get of having to buy the thing is a bit sad to see. Dreamers and fantasy buyers who can't or dont actually come up with the money are a total pain, the seller shouldn't have to have their time wasted.

  5. Hah! Depending on its condition, it sounds to me you've potentially bagged yourself a bargain! Time to change the thread title... I've done a very clever stupid thing. Ebay whizz kid struts his stuff bid dilemma Fixed! 😁

  9. It is a legal contract, so as others have said the best thing is to buy it then flog it later. The financial loss should be small, the grief from the missus will abate, you won't have p-d off the sellerand your conscience will be clear. The latter is worth a lot .

  10. I had one of those - I stung them along for about 30 minutes, pretending I was completely computer illiterate (she spent a few minutes telling me which the space bar was) and when she finally said 'And what does it say on your executable window?' I said 'oh, that's strange - it says 'f&*k off'

  11. In excellent condition, no dings just a little rash on the back and some play swirls on the front, 1 small ding on rear of neck. Metal work all good, and in full working order. Active bass so requires 2 9v PP3 batteries. Shipping £15 UK.

  14. The right thing to do is buy it as you made an 'offer/contract' with eBay/seller. Play it, if you like it keep it. If not, sell it. If you pay via your credit card, you have a month to sell it/settle your bill. I doubt the financial hit will be too great. Do the right thing, it will make you feel better.

  15. Decide not to go with the aluminium angle, as it would take me a couple of evenings to do. I don't have the time and more importantly, I can't be bothered. I've started working on the blanking plates instead, which gets this project near completion. Drilling the wood brackets first has prevented splitting, so all is good. Have given an initial black spray and when I do the next coat, I'll make sure I spray the screws as well.

  21. Yeah, a skill to be honed through practice. I hate talking over the mic so I've worked at it, plus I've worked at ensuring I don't have to do it too much too 🤩

  24. I bought an “as is” 89 SR1000 over the weekend with (potentially) a borked truss rod and blown preamp... from Japan. I think it was the free shipping which pushed me to do it. That and the bottle of wine. Hey, nobody forced me to drink it, so it’s all on me. If you buy it, pay for it and you and the seller get on with your lives. Very simple. I’d love to know what percentage of ebay purchases are fuelled by booze 😂

  29. I do think when it comes to prepping for a gig that far too many bands worry about the songs first and foremost. I think they are just a fragment of the whole. What so often gets lost in inexperienced bands is the other bits that are super important things like:- How to transition between songs How to perform, not just play songs How to cope with the inevitable pink torpedo ups during songs, whether that is equipment malfunction or pilot error How to engage the audience during the set, which breaks down to:- How to engage the audience during songs How to engage the audience between the songs All of this can and should be rehearsed, that is what rehearsal time is for, not simply playing toons together and rocking out. IMO.

  32. I've had one of these for 39 years now, and for 25 of those years it was my only bass ... I had a Sadowsky for a while but couldn't tell the difference on recordings and so sold it and went back to the Westone. It's been on all 43 albums I've made and is a true friend. It has a passive mode which sounds great too. This example here is in unbelievably good condition, almost a collectors item but whomever buys it should not worry about that and just play the heck out of it ... GLWTS!

  33. I was on holiday some 30 years ago with a Swedish lady and told her how well Sweden had done at the small bore shooting competition at the Olymics. Her response was “those poor little piggies”. I still smile at this.

  35. As part of my clearout of gear, I've decided to move this on as I no longer use it. I'm giving it away, so would be good if it went to someone who needs a little home practice combo or a school/pub jam room etc. Specs can be found online. It works fine and is in pretty good condition. Plus... It's FREEEE! Collection only really as would probably cost too much to post. Thanks

  36. Probably my favourite Glastonbury moment... I'm not familiar with the artist (or the song), but good on him for letting this young lad on stage - and for enabling what happened next. Pure gold.

  39. We endlessly prune ideas. Last year we worked on a track for 8 months on and off, in the end it just became boring. In some ways that is a great reason to be spending a long time on a track, you see, in my experience, you cant tell what is truly fantastic in a couple of hours, or weeks even. The best stuff we have written we have played for years and years, and its still fun and intriguing to play, although the makeup of the sets have led me in particular to want to add a new set so we can swap things about better. Variety etc etc. Fact is, its good enough material to last. Sometimes you work really hard on something but you lose that initially visceral quality of it that felt so good day 1, or you realise its just a bit obvious. I record every single rehearsal, in full, chop out the best parts and they get saved, everyone is sent every single piece, its a huge huge library of variations and ideas and jamming - literally weeks of it now - that we refer back to and use when thinking about new parts. Again its to be noted that gigs are not necessarily our number 1 purpose, creating music to play at gigs is. So we can spend for ever on a track, before anyone hears it, and if it lasts the course it will be good enough for our audience to enjoy, because its something we are enjoying playing. Having said all of that one of my favourite structures we have goes:- aABABCABCDABCDEBB The track in question is almost 8 minutes long. Too complex? Or clever because it means people get to hear section A 5 times, section B 6 times, section D and E once each and so have an idea whats coming but it keeps changing at the same time. The punters seem to dig it whatever It sounds like this:- https://mistersuperjuice.bandcamp.com/track/frisking-the-whiskers

  44. I've always played in bands that are somewhere within the very large venn diagram of musical styles that I will listen to, but I'd say that few of them have been the sort of music that would feature on my Desert Island Discs list. All sorts of rock/punk/metal, which I do like, but even when doing originals in bands that I've formed, I can only think of two that were exactly to my favourite tastes. The last lot I played with were a very technical death metal band, not a genre I have played before, and I joked that there might not be very many transferable skills to help with my UEB playing, and got a semi-serious lecture from the drummer about how you should be able to learn from playing all different types of music, and be able to apply different techniques even if it doesn't seem like an obvious fit at the outset. He had a very good point. Then last week someone asked me if i wanted to join his reggae band... I politely declined. Not because I hate reggae (although it would be on the very outer reaches of my venn diagram...I have a few Bob Marley albums and UB40's first LP, and i only really like one track from that) but because white men playing reggae badly is one of the worst musical crimes on the planet In fairness, he only asked me because he wants to form a reggae band and doesn't know any other musicians

  45. It sucks that Tech 21 stuff is so expensive in the UK but fortunately I'm on holiday in the States at the moment and my YYZ should be arriving this week!!! When I get back to Blighty, I'll do a vid and share my thoughts. The videos I've seen sound very good and very much like geddy... But that's from one guy who is specifically trying to sound like geddy. I'll see how it fares when not using jazz basses or Ric's. My Gibson LP DC Tribute bass is about as far away from Geddy as I can get and if I think the YYZ sounds great with that, then winner, winner, chicken dinner. If not, then I'm sure it will love my Ibanez.

  49. another punter and performer at the Star over the years, and pleased this has turned out with the right decision Always reminds me of an article in a Chelsea programme from then chairman Ken Bates, joyously pointing and laughing at the local residents who had objected to the latest rebuilding of Stamford Bridge because they said that the increased capacity would cause excessive noise and congestion on match days. He repeated the planning committee's comments that if you buy a house that is next door to a very well known football ground you have to expect noise and crowds on matchday Picking up on another comment, me and the ex once bought a house that was over the road from a church - didn't really think about any issues that this may cause. No noise issues, but on Sunday morning we often couldn't get our car out of the driveway because Christians park like c#nts
