Here is a pre Ernie Ball Musicman Sabre. Serial number C0003xx which dates it between 1979-1981. AlI original except the d-tuner ( original is in the case). All electronics and the truss rod working as they should and the neck is straight. Pretty decent condition given its age. See photos for the few flaws; scuffed headstock (actually not too bad, the picture is worse than the reality!); aging on the tuners; mark on the fretboard and the worn section of the neck. Frets ok but a couple might need repair, burn mark on the bridge humbucker, small scratch on the body, scratching to the pick guard (obviously) and a couple of rusty screws. Hiscox case included is fully functional but there are a couple of scratches. Neck: Bolt-on maple, 34” scale, maple fretboard with 21 frets; 3-bolt, nut width around 1.625”–1.67”. Pickups: Dual humbuckers with exposed pole pieces (large 3/8” alnico magnets on bridge pickup. Electronics: Active 2-band EQ (bass/treble boost/cut), master volume; 3-way toggle selector, phase switch (for out-of-phase tones), and treble boost switch. Powered by 9V battery, 3+1 headstock tuner layout. 19mm string spacing at the bridge. Weight between 9-11bs. I can take a more precise weight if anyone wants it in a couple of days. Price excluded shipping. Currently I don’t see one of these cheaper online. No trades, unless you got a very good Yamaha. Merry Christmas to all fellow Basschatters. Keep playing and in good health. I wish you all well for the New Year. Regards David15 points

My birthday and Christmas fall within three days of each other and I was gifted this Retrovibe by the fam as a joint present for both events after me seeing it in Bolton and commenting on it to Mrs ead (not by any means as a hint; as a few of you know I'm selling my basses these days due to arthritis). Having been in touch with David it seems it was one of 8 made in this colour around 10 years ago. Absolutely immaculate although the pickups are apparently not the original fit items, so I will probs restore the right ones if I can find some. Interestingly it's a 33.25" scale and has the push pull on the bridge tome control.5 points

I got a new wallet. Which will never have any money in it as long as I play bass. There. That’s bass related.5 points

I got singing lessons from t'other half. Could be a subtle (or not so subtle) hint. Never has a singing lesson in my life. I used to sing solos when I was younger in primary school and then I grew up or something like that<cough> and can now strip creosote off fences at 10m. Fish wives and RSMs aren't in it.4 points

Hammond MIDI pedalboard (Christmas present to myself though!) Gives me the scope to become Geddy Lee, or a great Organ player. .....or the more likely outcome: Playing drone notes hands-free while I practice noodling bass guitar in that key over the top.4 points

I printed off four cylinder puzzles for Xmas and put various Xmas presents in. I have managed to keep four people amused for two hours as they have had to crack their locks. I'm sure that constantly saying "Do you need any help?" was well received by one and all.4 points

Happy Chrimbo guys this is fairly short , but maybe for some, not short enough I am of course blaming Lurksalittle for the choice of song , but then I did have 12 months to come up with a better idea! EZ drummer with me playing bits along on the midi keys, Ibby six string thrashed on the top 4 strings , Gordon smith bass walloped on the bottom 4 strings and my singing with an overly tight G-string, Ozoned to death and strung up in Reaper. sing along , you should Know the words.4 points

My 1994 Stingray 5. Was originally a lined fretless but now has this 2000 fretted maple neck. Recreates a bass I used to gig 30 years ago.4 points

There is a heck of a lot to unpack there. There are things I like in a bass that have no bearing on whether it's actually good or not. I'm partial to binding, lollipops, matching headstock and a slim neck with a smooth satin finish. I also like a sparkle paint job, but these things are irrelevant if I don't like playing it. You only have to look at some of the sale threads to realise that. I sat down with a bunch of new Fender Custom Shop basses the other day. I think I tried five in the end. The one I really liked the look of was the one I liked least in hand. The best one didn't have binding, lollipops or flashy paint, but wow! What a bass! Given your list of pro's and con's, there's compromises that need to be made unless you go the CS route. Here are 3 of the ones I tried.4 points

See how times, and Christmas traditions, have changed over the years. 50 years ago, an Orange amp in our stocking. Now, an Elf on the shelf.3 points

I've never been asked to bring any kind of bass for a gig or dep. In actual fact i didn't even know what the P-bass sound was until I joined this forum and read so much praise for them and decided to listened to examples. I do have an active bass with two sets of P-style pickups and in recent years put on flats but i doubt it has the authentic tonality of a passive P bass. I've taken it on a few dep gigs and got close enough to the previous bass player's sound that they noticed. I personally don't think I 'need' that sound and It's never gonna be my first call bass sound but if that type of sound was needed, i'd bring it along and see what I could do with it. Sounds monster with rounds on tho.3 points

100%. You can't necessarily hear a huge difference, but you can feel it when you play it. He did another video of "beginner with expensive Vs pro with cheap", and obviously the difference was in their playing. But the pro pointed out that he spent a lot of his energy fighting the instrument, rather than allowing it to be an extension of his body3 points

Listen to Girls Talk Dave Edmunds Cover by Jules Moss on #SoundCloud https://on.soundcloud.com/U1KQi8rPaCRsPZKFyL My December cover challenge, massive thanks to my band's singer Matt Sewell for singing this, my own efforts were unbearable! Bass, drums and many guitars by me, recorded in Reaper. This tune is a particular favourite of my wife, so also a small bonus Xmas pressie...3 points

Dear agedhorse, Dan, tauzero and nekomatic, Thanks for your responses. This is what happend so far: I rang the Eich-office. This is what they told me: A few years ago, Neutrik has changed the design of some of their connectors/plugs and therefor the problems that I'm having in my cabs, are somewhat well known to Eich (and they are really pissed about this!). Therefor Eich offered to send me complete new back plates of the cabs (for free!) so that these bad connections belong to the past (for me). I find that very generous of Eich. As soon as I have changed the plates, I will notify you all on the outcome. For now; thanks for your involvement!3 points

Did you receive any bass related crimbo pressies or unexpected winners this morning? I was lucky enough to get a used Bergantino cab ready for my return to live gigging in a few weeks time and also a posh Tempur pillow from their refurb shop. Once I've seasoned it nicely with some dribble and snot I'll report back on it (both the the pillow and the cab)2 points

I managed to find this again which suggests it’s a 2nd gen Edit: It comes from a blog post on a site I’ll link below 👇 it’s got this table for all the Sire basses that came out as Gen1, quite useful if you like that sort of thing (like I do 😁 haha). https://gsus4.com.au/blogs/news-promo/whats-new-2nd-gen-sire-bass?srsltid=AfmBOooMUHWtuQszqBm5NqKQabfJtub5oqkYPAcLS5tcJuEBKRBirlmW On another note @Davy I’m only down the road from you and if this is till here first week of Jan I’ll come up and get this2 points

It forces a rush of compressed air into the tone wood molecules and makes them vibrate more quickly. As a result the bass resonates faster, making the sound sweeter, generates a more purposeful tone, and thusly the player becomes faster, with improved technique and accuracy, and becomes more God-like. 🤣 You did ask. Happy Christmas one and all!2 points

There have indeed been some documented issues with the brown colored new plugs from Neutrik, being exactly as Eich had experienced. A bigger problem has been some of the cheap knockoff plugs from Asia, their cost is irresistible to some cable manufacturers and they can damage the mating jacks too.2 points

Undo the control plate screws. Lift out the control plate. Unsolder the pickup wires. Get another control plate and put a V/Blend/T or proper V/B/active tones in instead. And if you're wondering why I'm posting this at 4am on Christmas Day, so am I.2 points

The bass came with rounds which sounded great but I do love LaBella flats on an ebony board. New set arrived today so on they went and set up. Everything I wanted from this instrument and more. Delicious, fat, warm tone from it. One happy chappy. So you see, Santa does exist after all.2 points
