This is really exciting times for us We have taken on a much bigger unit next door to relocate all of our stocks of accessories, basses not on display, used amplification etc, making picking a packing a lot easier and more efficient. We are also taking on another full time member of staff and introducing new processes to make things a lot more customer orientated/focused. All in all it will be a MUCH nicer place to be with some comforts too, we really hope you love the changes guys and look forward to seeing you soon8 points

The gig on Saturday was a dep for a blues / americana (sort of) band at Diseworth Village Hall. A bit different setting to the last gig I did two weeks ago, a slightly dodgy rock club in a rundown part of inner-city Hull, this was a small village hall in a well to do part of rural England, just off the M1 a short distance away from East Midlands Airport. A lovely and rather picturesque little village, complete with signs on lampposts rallying locals to protest at any possible industrial development in the area (as well as discouraging strangers from parking up there for a fortnight to avoid using the nearby airport car parks)! The people promoting the gig were super friendly and helpful (as they were in the club in Hull), decent PA, free food, having to keep turning down free beers, etc. Not a bad payer either! I say it was a dep gig, but I was in an earlier version of the band and have done a couple of deps since I left. Basically, when I’m playing, it’s the Zep tribute band with a female singer-songwriter (the guitarist’s girlfriend), so we all know each and are used to playing together. The audience was not exactly the most rock'n'roll crowd, but nice people and a very good reaction, so generally a great night. The usual motorway closure on the two hour drive home, but this one wasn’t too bad – M1 closed, diverted onto the M18 to the A1(M) and then picking the M62 up just a little further out, maybe 15 minutes added to the drive. One day I will start a thread on night-time motorway closures driving back from gigs! Gear was, as ever, the 70s P bass into a Handbox R-400 amp / Berg CN212 cab. Footwear was the usual grey suede Vans hi-tops! I’m a bit worried that they are starting to wear out and I might have start wearing in a new pair for gigs (darker grey pigskin Vans)!8 points

I just keep finding myself with such poorly treated instruments - not that I'm the best person to be bringing them back to life, but hey I'm learning, and I can't make it any worse than this, right? So as the franken-reggae bass goes through multiple obsessive stages of paint before being finished off, this guy comes in. The plan is for a straight up punk P bass. Think single volume knob, bright colours. The body, I'm told, is a Greco from 70s/80s. This checks out, I have a few Greco basses around and it makes sense. It has the pancake body construction and weighs an insane amount. The pickup seems to be OK. I have a neck with a pointy headstock coming from Korea (an old Samick I believe, it should fit). First order of the build is to strip the finish, remove those broken screws, and fill that hack job cavity. I will update slowly as parts start to arrive, and as I work on the other project. This is how I received it (pickup also included) Stripped, screws pulled, and epoxy resin to fill the hole. Bridge as I was checking it lines up with original holes (of course it does). More coming!7 points

*SOLD* I've finally decided to sell my beautiful Vigier Passion III as it is sitting forlorn and unplayed and really needs to find a good home where it can be properly appreciated. I bought it new from Bass Direct in 2014 (one of the photos I've attached was the original one from the Bass Direct web site!) and it has never been gigged. It is absolutely mint with no marks or scratches and is as clean as it's possible to be! I has a parametric preamp and the signature neck that Vigier use to avoid the need for a truss rod.) It comes with a custom Vigier hard case. Working perfectly, playing wonderfully, and a pleasure to own. Happy to take payment in person by bank transfer once you've seen it and are happy. Either here at my home in Winchcombe, or I can drive a meet you halfway from wherever you live (within reason!) Photos attached, but if you want to see/hear it being played (someone inexpertly) you can see me playing it here:7 points

Latest step is a much smaller job. I just got some 12 mm and 6 mm dowel, and cut short plugs for each of the unwanted holes. The 12 mm section was for the back, where a bigger wider set of holes had been drilled part-way through, presumably to allow for the fitting of some switches with short bushings. The 6 mm went in the front. Both pieces were fairly tightly fitted so I didn't need to clamp them, though I did put some tape over the lowest one to hold things in place. I trimmed off the excess material with a chisel and sanded it all down. I'll need to put a few dabs of lacquer on there and sand it some more before I spray the body, because otherwise that end-grain is going to show through.5 points

Recreating the synth part of The Weekend's One Right Now with my MXR Bass Synth. Pedal can't play super fast though but I still think it's incredible. These pedals, including the C4 Synth, do what they do but you got to play to their limits. Also, my wife loves The Weekend and Synth stuff so she requested this. @Sharkfinger Tried to play Ain't Nobody in the original tempo, and the pedal can't keep up to get an articulate sound like the record, Slower tempo you can do it but that;s no fun! I'm still exploring with all the parameters though so I may be missing something or maybe I'm just a bad player =(5 points

Ordered 1 May, delivered 25 July - so a little over the 10 weeks stated. No updates during that time (even after phoning customer service number provided on confirmation, UK-based, useless had no info beyond it will arrive at some point). Eventually emailed the address supplied on the confirmation and got through to very helpful team (Amsterdam-based I think) who explained they ship these to Europe in batches, so the bass was made but waiting at the dock. Sent me a £100 gig bag by way of apology. Bass and gig bag ended up arriving on the same day. Was she worth it? Very... https://www.icloud.com/sharedalbum/#B2AGrhkPxGIGnBp Alder Body in Shell Pink Roasted Maple 1963 C Neck American Vintage II PJ 60/66 Pick-ups Mint Green Pickguard Fit and finish are all really decent and it weighs about 8.5 lbs. Set-up was decent, way-better than other stock Fenders I've had from new. All-in-all, I'm a very happy boy.4 points

I'd never heard of pirate before reading this thread. It makes me glad to be in a band where the guitarist has a studio in his home. The only hazard I encounter is the possibility of tripping over Ralph.4 points

Here's an idea - post your music somewhere that's not a known hotbed of extremist hate, bigotry, intolerance & lies - then maybe a few more people might be interested enough to have a listen, and not draw prejudicial conclusions about the content & the poster. I'm not clicking a Rumble link.4 points

Now £210 So, I bought this as a Maple Neck and pretty much unmarked 3TSB body combo (matching headstock), nicely pre-routed for a battery box (this is a MB4 which is passive normally) I built this up as a gigging bass so have chosen nice hardware. Sub 4 pre amp and controls plate. pre 2017 style Mman bridge. Dual coil DELANO pickup Series/Parallel switching Fret End dressed so no finger biters here. The fretting is really good considering to price point. Takes a good low action and I have bevel filed the fret ends so good to go. 'ray scratchplate. Currently strung with flats (a la Bernard Edwards). I have gigged this bass and it sounds and plays great. Not heavy or Noisy. No issues, i just dont play 4 string as much as i did. Meet up anywhere around the m25, also can post for an additional £30, always insured. Pickup from Rochester is also an option.3 points

Bit of a feeler, but I’m having a re-evaluation of what I’m using and what is just sitting in a cupboard. The bass is actually in pretty decent condition, considering its age, but the discoloring of the body makes it look more ‘aged’ than it actually is. The bass came to me with a pretty awful refret, so I had to have that redone properly, which resulted in the fingerboard (only) having a good clean and an overspray. A new nut too. It’s an awesome job and the neck is now super playable as a result. Original hardware including pickup covers, pots both date to ‘78, pickup dates to ‘77. Now the good news….it weighs 8.87lbs. That’s right, a late 70’s punk/rock machine under 9lbs!! Comes with a simple gig bag, and so I would prefer not to post it. Meet up/collection preferred. Part-ex’s I’d be interested in: - Noble bass Pre - Lakland 44-64/Duck Dunn (straight P, no PJ) - Fender PB70 CIJ/MIJ Cheers Si3 points

In addition to all of the aforementioned… Try not to concentrate too much on the mechanics of what you’re doing but instead try to listen, as if you are listening to someone else playing. It’s hard to explain, but I find that if I “take a step back” mentally and listen to the whole, rather than concentrating on what I’m doing, then everything seems to come together more naturally and it’s easier to relax, which itself is important.3 points

A bit of a failure. I have gone back and fore with this one several times but cannot begin to make sense of the arpeggios he is using in the middle section. I have some shapes but cannot find a way to write them down that allows for it to be interpreted accurately. The whole performance is out of time and so the whole transcription is a vague approximation but it is such a lovely performance, I didn't want to leave the work that I had done, or at least tried to do, rotting on a hard drive in Felixstowe! So, here is my approximation of the YouTube video 'Jeff Berlin Improvises Beethoven'. I hope it is of use to someone. I think this is JB's best solo bass performance of all of those tunes he has tried. It sounds genuinely beautiful and not just 'clever'. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/jeff-berlin-improvises-beethoven-ish-jeff-berlin/3 points

Have you tried booking under the guise of a pothead that wants to have a mini rave and damage all the equipment? I believe they are welcomed3 points

I kick myself for not getitng one just after the brexit change when Thomman were kicking them out at €1350, even with taxes that would have been pretty good, but didn't know what getting stuff imported was like at the time. By the time they had that sorted themselves they were gone and never came back. Problem with rics are they are just too expensive for what they are worth for me - at under 1.5k I am happy to go for one, at over that they have to be special, and they aren't really special enough.3 points

Yes, exactly and the asking price is so good. I absolutely do not need another bass and I already have 3 medium scale basses but the GAS is strong! Must resist! Somebody buy one and give it a crap review please! 🙄3 points

Sorry to hear this Sean, we really try our best, but a lot of the time in the past we have been on the backfoot due to being spread extremely thin. This is all changing right now and we can't wait to provide a better service to all of our customers and with more efficiency too3 points

Decent rehearsal on Sunday, and Shout is in the set list for our gig in Wakefield which is good. Still enjoying the practice studio in general but at one point there was an awful eggy smell that put us off for a few minutes, so next time I'll be booking a room away from the toilets (nobody in the band claimed responsibility, which they would have if it was one of them!). Looking forward to the next gig because it's been a few months since the last one.3 points

I’ve had a lot of use from a set of Pedaltrain Pedal Boosters: https://pedaltrain.com/products/pedaltrain-booster They are great for raising pedals in the second row so that the foot switches can be operated clear of the pedals in front. They do require some drilling though, as they are not very stable if secured only by Velcro.3 points

Yeah he's taking his own Sansamp just in case no one else has a DI box. It's serving the same role as a "house amp" would do. I'll be taking the Tonex One and a passive DI box. FWIW, I am actually pretty happy I'm not having to take an amp - from memory this venue sounds pretty good and has great bass response, and last time I played there (I was on rhythm guitar at the time), my Marshall DSL40CR and chonky pedalboard were a nightmare to get up and down the 3 flights of narrow twisty stairs. Now I can just take one gig bag with my bass, IEMs, Tonex One and some cables and I'm done.3 points

I haven’t tried any of the Ampeg RB range, but have always loved Ampeg’s earlier stuff. I’ve been using a Rumble 500 combo regularly for a couple of years, ( and a 100 for four years). The 500 has been one of the best amps I’ve ever had - relatively lightweight, great sounding and reliable. As mentioned above, using the ‘vintage’ button is where the magic lies and I rarely need to make any radical eq changes in any room. I’ve used mine in a very loud blues rock trio where it’s never been lacking in volume. Also paired it with an extension cab which makes it even better. Few downsides really - handle on top isn’t the most user friendly, the DI is post master which means any volume or tone changes affect the output to the FOH sound, and the included cover isn’t very robust although okay if you’re careful. If you’re okay with these then I’d heartily recommend you giving one a try. 😊3 points

I think it is meant to sound like getting a lot of stoned people and swapping the instruments around between them, and then pressing record on a recording device.3 points

Here we have an all original Vigier Arpege from 1989 Original preamp with 18v supply It has various chips and knocks but nothing to drastic Carbon fiber neck which is straight and true Frets in very good condition Weight is 3.9 Kg's Nut width is 40mm Nice slim and very comfortable neck on these, silky smooth and fast, a joy to play Im told that these are quite rare to find from this year A very reluctant sale but something quite beautiful has come up close to home...I have another Vigier so that will keep me happy Will come in a generic case Here is a link to the controls https://www.basschat.co.uk/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=323436&key=bf06df3308eb6e206a930a51382027723 points

Good evening... No, I've not listened to the linked track, as I don't, in general, click on links from sources I'm not sure of. Not to say that that link is not respectable, but, on this forum, it's usual to introduce oneself, post a little about oneself, and generally participate a bit to build up confidence in what is, after all, a rapport between complete strangers. Once you get to know some of us better, and we you, there is a much better chance of getting useful comments relating to all things bass. I hope this helps; meanwhile... Have a great day. Hi all, I've attempted to setup the bass properly using THIS video as a reference, and must say that the results were pretty awesome (Thanks BassBuzz / Josh Fossgreen, in case you're here)! Adjusting the truss rod made the biggest difference, and everything sounded substantially cleaner. Thanks to everyone who directed me down this route. However, the most noticeable improvement was when I plugged in a pair of headphones to the amp. That made it sound incredible! I think that perhaps it's time to upgrade my amp. Keeping in mind that I only plan to play at home in a pretty small room, what kind of specs and brands do you think I should be looking for? I definitely won't need an immense amount of power and volume, and I would prefer to not use headphones. In terms of size, the smaller the better. I like playing heavier music, like metal, and will buy a distortion pedal at some point. Thanks again for the invaluable advice!3 points

Just for you BassmanPaul,,,,,,,,,,,,,pics added 😊😊😊 Due to the ill health of my wife ( Parkinsons and Dementia ) my life , and playing in bands , stopped two years ago, and I now care for her 24/7 . The only little bit I have of my life is playing bass for five or ten minutes a day , the rest of the day is caring for her . This came up on Reverb over here at £199 ,,,,,,,,,,,,how could I not buy it . I aint got many years left myself ( I`m 78) so why not treat myself . Its heavy (69Ib) but what a sound . It takes me back to when I started playing in the early 60`s Pete2 points

I’m quite often alternating between lead and backing vocals on the same gig. If I’m singing lead I go in close on the mic; for BVs I back off to around 15cm (6in).2 points

This is a creeping problem that I alluded to in my last post on the amps as stage props thread - that of mixing by numbers and with your eyes rather than your ears. It's completely down to the strength of the individual voices, what mics are being used and what the overall effect should be. There is no one size fits all solution. Mix with your ears and set the levels (and EQ) appropriately.2 points

New medium scale bass on the block: https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Hartwood-Satellite-Bass-Guitar-White/6DVL. The price is very reasonable at £199 and Bass the World think it is good value: Personally I would have preferred a 38mm nut and 19mm bridge spacing to the 40mm and 20mm but at this price the bridge is easily fixed and 40mm is manageable for both P and Jazz bass fans.2 points

Based in East Lancs. Competent management agency contracted Clash tribute band looking for full time or equally competent dep bassist for paid work. The present bassist is leaving (myself) and gigs are booked and more are being lined up at venues across the country. You don’t need to look like Paul Simonon but a white Precision would be a nice touch 😁 It’s my job at the moment but I’m leaving due to arthritis creeping in. I’m ok gigging locally but travelling around the country, hanging around for hours, playing then travelling home for is getting a bit much. The other 3 lads are great to work with, we all have quirks that we all take the piss out of too 🤣 It’s an easy friendly gig. Know the songs. Play them well and have a laugh. That’s all there is to it really. Don’t be bothered about your age either, everyone is in their late 50’s. Please PM if you are interested or want any more info.2 points

An Eagles tribute show at The Fire Station in Sunderland, a relatively new 550-cap venue. I reckon it's probably one of the best in the country. The hall is beautiful... acoustic perfection. The PA is premiere league. The staff are lovely, and absolutely on it. It even has parking! Used my MIA Standard Jazz, with the G&L L2000 on standby. Rig was, of course the Handbox R-400 (with its lovely on-board DI) and TKS S212.2 points

Hurtsfall played the Nottingham Pride event yesterday on the Gladrags stage at Rough Trade. Second time we've played at Rough Trade in less than a month and once again it was joy to be performing in an air-conditioned venue when it was uncomfortably hot outside. Once again excellent sound on stage and FoH. Due to time constraints we did the shortest set ever - under 25 minutes comprising just 5 songs. However we managed to pack the gig space at the end of the bar with plenty of people dancing and cheering as well as picking up a load on new fans, if our Facebook profile is anything to go by. Early finish and back home before 6.00 in the evening! Here we are giving it some at the end of our last song: "12 Long Years": Next gig is Twisted Firestarter which is the Infest Festival warm-up party at Rebellion in Manchester on 14th August.2 points

Practice, that’s the only way. I’m not a natural singer so the only way I can get my backing vox right is practice them with the band. It’s no good at home volumes, I need to be doing them with the band and those volumes.2 points
