OK - decided. And the first job on the list is radius to 12". After driving myself to the brink of madness in the past trying to radius an ebony fretboard with a radius block alone, I then made my own routing jig and then saw sense and bought a proper one from G&W: It always takes a bit of time getting it all set up, but the rout job itself took less than 20mins to this level: Ready for the final 10mins sanding off of the tooling marks with the almost-redundant radius block. I have a terrible memory, but I always remember to keep the sanding dust!! : Now, I'm one of those people where, if I drop a piece of toast it always lands butter-side down. Except when I try to demonstrate that certainty to anyone, when it lands, of course, butter-side up. So imagine my disbelief when this natural aberration that was lurking under the surface: ...turned out to be 3mm BEHIND where I will be cutting at the end of the fretboard Well, if that was karma, I clearly must have done at least one unbelievably good thing in the recent past!5 points

I think they’re D’addario chromes. Mine have blue silks, and only D’addario make strings with different coloured ball ends.4 points

I don’t care if it’s a legit 62 p bass for £4 - the “@@@ wow” means I would never go near it 😂4 points

Not really a build but definitely my most adventurous mod to date. Just got the wiring to do now. Better not drink too much tonight!3 points

As per title, new in Nov 2019, this bass has never left the house. Still has plastic in the scratchplate. On sale for £1649 at the time. Plenty of info on t'interweb, but they are based on the American Pro Series, a limited run of only 100 basses for Europe, in 2019. P/J with unusual stack knobs, V/T for each pick up. Passive bass. Roasted fretboard & neck (although bit more coloured with Bisto than roasted IMO). 8lb 14oz, original case inc. Why? It took me a long time to figure out why I didn't get on with Laklands. Finally worked out it was the narrow tall frets. This has those (although the neck is super!) TRADES see thoughts below, but I'd prefer a sale. Excellent Precision say around 2008, with original case + £400 to me Excellent Player Series Precision with gigbag + £750 to me Courier, UK only, YOU would need to organise & pay for it, telling me when collection day is. FEEDBACK linked below. Keep safe, cheers, Karl.3 points

There are a lot of alternatives these days, check out the Kala U Bass and its many cheaper clones, just search for ‘ukulele bass’. A few people make solid body versions too.3 points

Things I have discovered during this period of isolation. 1: The sleep function of the G75 really works. Put the guitar down while going to the loo and the batteries cease to drain until you pick it up again. 2: Lloytron recheargable batteries bought from Proper Job run out when the remaining battery time on the G75 shows 3 hours and 30 minutes. 3: A fully charged set of Lidl 'Tronic' recheargables shows 6 hours 45 minutes when inserted. 4: I realise 2 and 3 above are pretty useless pieces of information when trying to determine the playing time privided by either Lloytron or Tronic. 5: Even the most disgusting cough sweets contain sugar. 6: 5 isn't more than tenuously connected with music but is important to me. 7: Plectrum delivery time, even while using Amazon Prime, is entirely unpredictable. 8: I have too much bass gear.2 points

It was after going to the shop to choose these for a custom build, just before the shop had to close for the virus. Whether this build will now happen, and if so, when, remains to be seen! 😢2 points

Sorry, I forgot that. Here are some quick tasters, I'll try to take some better pics tomorrow when the light is better. I'll also give my comments on it so far, and I'll explain why this is a 4 string and I'm selling a 5 string (it's complicated). Seems I should post it in the Bass Guitars forum anyway.2 points

D'Addario make Fender strings, probably why both brands have coloured ball ends. Maybe they make Roto's as well?!?2 points

I'd say the Wilkinson Alnico pickup you have wired direct to the jack, with Markley Blue Steel strings as @kodiakblair says, run through a sansamp with the high mids boosted will get you the Bello sound. Wiring the pickup direct to jack will increase the output and increase the high end. Playing with a heavy (1mm) pick will also help achieve the sound. 😁2 points

I am being really good and not buying any more basses at the moment, it is not because what I want isn't currently on sale anywhere in the internet world at the moment, other than Japan and their prices are ridiculous .....obviously I haven't been looking2 points

well only 4 weeks ago I received my lovely D roc,I am so impressed with it I decided to sell my Rickenbacker & buy myself a Dingwall Combustion, which has just arrived at work. Fortunately it is very quiet so I've had time to have a little play & adjust the setup. My D roc came setup perfectly but I had to tweak this a fair bit to make it play nicely. One odd thing though, there are no batteries in the battery compartment ! Is this normal ? Every active bass I have bought in the past came with batteries installed.2 points

I’ve been busy with my Kate Bush tribute band (Moments Of Pleasure) over the last few months although Coronavirus has stopped all the shows we had planned at the moment ☹️ This week we managed to record a “remote” version of Army Dreamers - let me know what you think.2 points

Probably;y telling you the obvious, before you chisel down the grain into the 'belly cut', tenon saw plenty of cuts at right angles and just above the 'belly cut' depth / profile. This video (just one I found on YT, nothing 'special') gives you the idea. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2j57h3E3m4 This method prevents 'massive', ''unfortunate' splits along the grain etc, the kind of moments you do not want and makes it all easier. Apols if you know this and were going to do it anyway.1 point

Here's a couple of pics to (hopefully) help you. The extended poles are around 6 or 7mm long.... I had to rout out a small channel, to accommodate the extra depth of the magnets.... It was simple enough to do, but you may not want to do this to a valuable, vintage Fender....1 point

Interesting position of the lower strap button on the GB! Lovely collection, some proper p0rn there.1 point

i have Chromes on my 5 string and do really like them, however i fitted GHS precision flats o n my shortscale and they are lovely too (just the right tension for me) as a bonus they have no silk at the ball end and a nice low-key black silk at the headstock. Matt1 point

I sympathise, I can only deal with either red silks or plain metal strings, nothing else will do. Why red, well for years I used Rotosounds and they’re red, so I’m used to that, as such anything else I find off putting.1 point

I’ve got a set of labella with blue silks but I can’t remember which ones they are , as 760FL have red silks1 point

Just buy an Fdeck pedal (or clone), which will impedance match and - very usefully - give you control over feedback and low end rumble. Put that between your DB and any amp and hey presto1 point

I think so... cheers. It was definitely the ugly one though... pre 'mainstream bass or guitar looking' body version. I hate it when people use the word "rare" in their descriptions though... just means I'll be paying over the odds and if and when I actually get one... I'll probably hate it. All good though... thanks You have no idea just what search terms I've used not to find this little bugger..!1 point

I've only just seen this thread and have enjoyed reading through it. This bass is going to look cool when finished. I've bevelled scratchplates with new Stanley blades or those single sided razor blades. The scratchplate material is surprisingly soft and it doesn't take too long. I've got to make a P plate for my Hohner I've just painted as it's a different shape to any standard one.1 point

Me and it! Some kind of 4k bass. Bought for 5 quid and here at the tender age of 15 (1979) doing my first gig. Ended up giving it away to a mate, not sure if he still has it.1 point
