Thanks to @foxyFuze for selling me his unbelievable amp and for @wateroftyne for letting me play through his at the impromptu Bass Bash last week. Through the Barefaced 610 it is outstanding. Little unknown brand from Poland, won’t be long before everyone catches on! Does this mean the end of my 751 🤷♂️ It’s that good!!6 points

My bass is that little bit nearer to being back in my possession, thanks to Merton 😊. Love this forum and the kindness of its members. Here is a photo of the pickup5 points

Hi! I made another one with more pickup and tone settings, plus pick and slap at the end. I got several requests for quicker bouncing back and forth between the two, and also lowered the backing drum track.5 points

Just snaffled this 48 y/o beauty. Weighs just over 7 pounds, which is fabulous for my back/shoulders. Just need to sell a couple of basses to pay for it now!4 points

Not having any background in psychology, nor having read enough Freud that I feel compelled to ascribe all thoughts, dreams, and other subconscious brain activity to an inherent desire to have it off with one's own mother, I'm afraid I can't offer an explanation for your dreams. I can, however, reassure you that you are not alone. I have had similar dreams in which my instruments bends, folds, or shrinks to the size of a ukulele. In one case, I was on stage trying to play a borrowed bass on which the strings resembled those coiled, springy, rubber keychains that were briefly popular in the mid-to-late nineties. In another, I left other band members to pack the gear while I went ahead to set up the venue, had to berate them for forgetting to pack my amp, and found myself trying to amplify my bass using the "paper cup telephone" method and running a taut string from the body of the bass to a floor tom. I'm sure there are others; in some respects I'm quite grateful that I forget the majority of my dreams...4 points

Basses and bass kit fall into the exceptional need category. This category of purchases is deemed essential to life function, happiness, stardom, sexual prowess, fame, playing ability, tone (underline all applicable)..3 points

Painted the grille today. Not sure I like it as much as the grey primer but will do a temporary fix of the badge tomorrow to see if it looks OK. Sorry about the picture quality as it is gig-ready. However it does give you a general idea of what it looks like. The paint is https://www.toolstation.com/industrial-spray-paint-500ml/p805253 points

I've just returned to using flats again after a few years with rounds. At the moment I only have them on my Precision but have a set ready to go onto my Jazz as well. I use Chromes and always make my own custom set which are 45, 60, 80, 110 as I like a slightly heavier E so that I can drop it to D. After 5 or 6 gigs I have come to the conclusion that my Precision sounds garbage on it's own and not even close to how I would normally have it but in the mix it is absolutely perfect. The pops in We Are Family come alive with these strings and the tone is even all over the fretboard.3 points

That's a frustrating thought. How will you avoid the compulsion to carve the Christmas turkey into the shape of a bass guitar?3 points

Beats me why Fender don't do this as a matter of course. It makes SUCH a difference to the upper fret access, whether a Rascal bass or a Stratocaster electric. It's not even that they can claim it affects the performance - they do fit a similar plate on some limited models. Anyway, we've got it here now : The Fender plates are hard to come by, so this is one from Northwest Guitars - nice quality. Holes were a teeny bit out, though, so I drilled out and plugged all three and started again. I will carve the neck heel to match. And, talking of the neck, that's already gone from Eden to Los Angeles and Los Angeles to New York and New York to UK and has just landed at Heathrow! If the UK mail gets fully into gear, hopefully it should be with me by the New Year3 points

I tend to find the best band name is the one you think of just after you've finished weeks of debate, decided on one and set up the band Facebook page etc....🙄3 points

My favourite of band names that mates have formed: After many years playing in their own bands some mates got together to form "Old Country Union"3 points

Mrs.HKH and I are staying at the Hard Rock Hotel in Tenerife at the moment and as a regular visitor to Hard Rock establishments, I’m always drawn towards the basses on display. I thought it might be a nice idea to share the basses in cafes/hotels worldwide and what might be known about them. I’ll start with this one which is the first instrument I saw whilst checking in today which is in the main lobby at the HRH Tenerife.2 points

Spent an hour trying these side by side. Both made in Mexico. First using a small Markbass combo. They both sounded good, the deluxe maybe marginally brighter. The bridge pickup on the Flea sounded muted - even compared to the sound of my Squier Jazz in my head. Controls on the Flea more intuitive than the confusing four knobs on the Deluxe. Then on a Rumble 100 - weighs 18lbs!!! - which sorted the sound of the Flea completely. perhaps the vintage pickups just want a more vintage sounding amp? This was with both amps on a near 12-o'clock setting. 'Feel wise' and the Flea was in a completely different universe. The Fender Deluxe was a couple of steps below my 2001 Indonesian Squier - it was nice enough but not inspiring. I did find it surprisingly easy to slap on though, but it wasn't 'left hand friendly'. Came away with the flea 🙂2 points

Bass now in Surrey 😎 Funny thing, Leo (the chap on the left) literally lives 600 yards from the customer I was visiting today. So journey from the hotel to the customer went past his house without even so much as a single road extra to consider. Superb serendipity methinks2 points

Yes. Its really not the amp, its me, but i just dont get a satisfying tone with this set up. Its loud, very loud, very punchy, but i cant seem to get loud and round. I know i have loads of EQ on tap in the Helix, and at rehearsals/gig it sounds pretty good in the room, but on play back its thin, clear, even a bit hollow sounding. Its not round and full like im used to having. I guess Bland is the word im looking for. I liek the EQ, and do understand it, but its the flatness of the amps output that i think im not gelling with. I could put more work in, and im sure its in there somewhere, but i think for me, something that will colour the tone is more appropriate. I have a GK MB800 and MarkBass F1, which i have a feeling will work better, but the MB will be a bit pushed (the cab really does like a lot of power to really sound big) and the GK has a bit too much baked in tone (although i like it in moderation). Id happily use the GK though, but was just wondering what the Fender was like, as i see loads fo praise for the combos, but ive never played a Fender bass amp. I know our own Tyler Spicer loves it, and his YT review sounds really good to me.2 points

Finally got to play my new shell pink Jazz with my band, last night. After a few comments like, "getting in touch with your feminine side?", it was generally agreed that the bass not only looked cool but sounded great too. I was really happy with the easy playability and even more happy with the bass's tone, in the band mix. Lots of body, penetration and that lovely growl, I was hoping for. Well chuffed.🤠2 points

I agree with TTL3... 'Newfoundfreedom' is ideal. My favourite local band names are Goldfish Don't Bounce and Gandhi's Flipflop. God only knows how much alcohol/substances was involved in coming up with those.2 points

I think it’s worth having both a P and a J, personally. That said, if you’re a J man, then you could always trade and then save up for a P when you can afford one.2 points

Probably thinking of Bannermans. It's at the bottom of the street, in the corner with Cowgate, just another 100m away from Stramash. Bannermans is mostly geared to rock bands (not only, 'though). It's not huge, but yeah, definitely another place to check. They also have a flat upstairs that out of town bands may use (you need to agree that, of course), which can be quite handy.2 points
