The crowdfunding page ended today and I would just like to once again thank each and everyone of you for going beyond the call of duty and making a donation to this fund, I never thought we would raise this much to help against Funkinshui's and my losses after being ripped off by he who shall not be mentioned YET. You have raised a mind blowing grand total of £620 pounds and have restored our faith in humanity, just to mention once again, I was the end of the chain in this fraud and I ended up buying the bass face to face with the fraudster, which was his biggest mistake as the police couldnt link it to him. But seeing as I can id the guy without doubt and we know who he really is he should get whats coming to him. I have requested an update from CID and will let you know whats going on as things progress. I being the end of the chain would of recieved nothing and lost all my money. Thanks to Funkinshui being so genorous and offering to split the loss with me and you guys suggesting we open a crowd funding page, we will loose a lot less than we expected. I cant really put into words how grateful I am for your generosity, Basschat is awesome and the community is like no other I have been part of, I tip my hat to every one of you, thank you all once again

I bought a pair of humbuckers for my B2A from Kent Armstrong and they came with surrounds drilled 2 on one side and 1 on the other. Might be worth a call.

Adjunct to this thread, I would advise anyone with this Hohner licensed Steinberger headless bridge to make sure the threads are really well lubricated with grease. I've had several old ones where the threads strip in the string pullers. Easily fixed using stainless Helicoil type inserts, then will be good for life. If I had kept mine, I would have done it with all of them. HTH

One of our gigs last weekend was at a pub whose landlord, Phil, used to own a different pub. We used to play regularly for Phil at his previous pub but the new owners cancelled all the bookings when they took over. At last Saturdays gig two minibuses turned up full of locals from Phil's previous pub who'd come especially to see us, a thirty mile round trip. Money in Phil's till and two fingers up to the new landlord at his previous pub. We were delighted to see them

Got the top on and all back together The strings are VERY close to the edge if the fretboard I had a little play up and down the neck and the strings didn't fall off the sides so it might be OK?? If not I will get a 5 string neck and do it that way instead, Just got to order my strings and then I can give it a proper go!?! 😀

Just watching this on BBC 4 now. I'll be honest and say that this is probably a little too intellectual for my tastes but I am giving it a go. So what do I think? Incredible talent. Total control of each of his instruments. Is clear about where he wants to take the listener on this journey. Its just that I'm not at all sure where we're going. And not really enjoying the trip either. There is also a fine line between stage presence and showing off. I still haven't decided on which side of the line Mr Collier falls.

Originally it was poly over a fotoflame sunburst finish. I keyed it with a Scotchbrite pad and shot a few coats of Shoreline Gold nitro over it, which turned out very well. Then I got bored with that, so did a bit of wet and dry work with some micromesh then sprayed about four coats of TV Yellow nitro. There's no clear coat - I'm hoping for some interesting wear over time. the actual colour isn't as yellow as the pics show. They were taken in a conservatory in bright sun. It's more of a cream colour, like the 68 Telebass of that year. The top pic is most representative colour-wise.

6/6 is mighty light weight!

Go looking for a 1970s WEM Dominator Bass 25. The model number is hopelessly misleading. It's a 17W (usually misdescribed as 15W) all-valve open-backed amp fitted with a 15" Celestion rather than the more common 12" Celestion. There is no "25" anywhere. In good nick, these sound every bit as good as a B15 and normally go (on eBay) for less than £400. Don't buy a Dommie with the 12" Celestion, it just won't work for bass. Especially don't buy any of the smaller WEM combos, Westminster etc. If you really want just the head, then go looking for a Selmer 50W PA head. These turn up all the time on eBay, all-valve 4-channel PA heads from the 70s. You can just use whichever channel sounds best, or you can bi-amp with them.

It actually makes me sad when a thread about an incredible talent (who is 23 years old for goodness sake, he was doing Berklee masterclasses at 20!) gets lambasted by people who: A) Don't like Jazz B) Watch 5 minutes of one program If you don't like Jazz, don't comment unless you're actively appreciating the technical ability and hard work someone has put in. Letting people know you actively don't like the subject your being negative about doesn't really help the conversation. "God I hate driving......this <well spec'd, reasonably priced, popular> car is awful isn't it!". If you do like Jazz, but don't like seeing how someone attempts to entertain a sold out Albert Hall audience, dig a little deeper: These are bands that he has curated, who have come together to play his songs and arrangements, he's the band-leader. So yes, they are obviously contributing a lot, but they wouldn't be in that particular gig if it weren't for Jacob, he's creating jobs innit. Si

I'd love one! BUT, and this goes for most of the available low power options, they're quite pricey. I think that puts folk off the whole low power valve amp thing. Most are not REALLY giggable in every situation without PA support so how much use are they really when a lot of producers nowadays just want a decent DI signal to fiddle with "in the box"...

I saw the Yellowjackets on Friday night at Pizza Express, Holborn. The band were stunning and also very approachable as they out and about in the audience in the interval and at the end of the gig. Special mention of the "new" bassist, Dane Alderson, who gave us some of the most musical soloing I have heard in a very long time. There is a new album out later in the year. There not due to be back in the UK this year but this will give you a flavour of their work. The Pizza Express venue is a very civilised place to be as well....

Just getting through the post show let down after a very busy week.I was playing in the orchestra(yup, we had strings) for an amateur production of "Chicago" and although it is a slimmed down and cleaned up version of the Broadway show and is referred to as the "High School Edition", the music and orchestrations are for the most part exactly the same as the Broadway music.Luckily the musicians(14) are experienced players who have played many shows and some play in bands I am in and did a fantastic job with some very demanding music. Listen to the movie soundtrack if you want to get an idea of the level of playing demanded.Last week was three days of rehearsals and three shows.Of course the band had rehearsed a number of times before this. I was a last minute addition to the band when some extra money became available and I was asked to play...are you ready...tenor banjo!Almost 40 years ago I was very busy gigging with Dixieland type bands in Toronto but I haven't really played any serious banjo music for a long time so the last couple of weeks were real a real workout for me trying to get back some of the licks that I needed for the show and to get back into reading a banjo score instead of bass music. It was a great experience to do the shows and I had a fantastic time playing some good arrangements with excellent musicians.Three nights of full house with standing O's for cast and orchestra all three nights.On top of that I got back into playing banjo and even had couple of little solos in the show which I managed to play OK. I guess the point of the story is that if something that sounds interesting is offered to you,go for it because you might not get another opportunity like it again. Swing band rehearsal today playing bass and also a few Dixie tunes on banjo.Love it. As I have said on here before, we are so lucky to have music in our lives and be able to share it and have fun with others when we are playing. I have been gigging for 56 years and still get a thrill.I better go practice now...

It depends what kind of look you’re after. I originally planned to clear coat and polish mine but in the end I just applied the amber nitro and left it to age and wear naturally. I lightly sanded with very fine paper, 2000 grit I think, to smooth it. I’m happy with it.

Two more jobs - soldering the wires and fitting the strap buttons. However, took the advantage of a little bit of cloud (not often in the UK we say THAT!) to take the arty-farty shots - taking photos in full sunlight is not an easy thing to do! Before those shots (and forgive the self-indulgence!), someone asked me why I've started scooping the back. Two reasons that can be seen in these two shots: It takes out a LOT of weight. Just look at how much wood has been removed - and this is a relatively thick body this time: It allows a superslim transition of the neck to the body. Again, this one has been made a little deeper (this one is 30mm at its minimum - my last build was 25mm where the body was basically the same thickness as the neck!) but still retains those pleasing lines at the transition. I've also left the transition relatively modest starting with a taper just past the 13th fret - I can always get the surform out if, after he's had a proper play with it, @Len_derby wants it slimmer further up Anyway, enough of the technicals - here are the fancy shots: As always, many thanks for sticking with yet another tortuous thread and for your kind words and encouragement - always HUGELY appreciated Andy

I don’t think he’s changing the rules, as has been mentioned, he’s building on a lot of ideas that have gone before. However!!!!....his interpretation of those ‘rules’ and theories is wholly individual, a pure joy to listen to him explain theory and musical ideas. I actually think he’s incredibly important for music at the moment, he’s completely invigorated an entire generation of theory lovers. I don’t agree that he is danger of ‘falling’ into easy listening, he’s way too in control of everything he creates. If he writes something ‘easy listening’, it’s pure choice, and that’s fine. I actually find it refreshing where someone writes music that is beautiful and relatively accessible, instead of writing what they are technically capable of all the time. Si

Kindergarten - Faith No More, just works like a guitar solo but it’s Billy Gould on bass. Please Do Not Go - Violent Femmes, in fact, that entire album made every guitarist I’ve ever played with life hell. I love how the bass is lead.
