  3. I recently bought a bass from Wunjo and had the best buying experience I've ever had. The guys were helpful and 'appropriately attentive' when I first visited; did me a great deal when I called to order a similar model to one I tried (offering alternatives on loan when the order time was longer than expected too - I didn't need to take up the offer, but appreciated what is surely beyond the call of duty) and specific delivery requirements were no trouble. After disappointing shenanigans with various shops and online retailers in recent years, this was a breath of fresh air - I felt looked after by real people, who cared about their customers. I will go out of my way (I live in Manchester) to give them my custom again in the future. All in all, a confidence-restoring experience with a real music shop. Cheers Wunjo! Tobie

  7. I traded to this at the SW Bass Bash. It appears to be 93/94 MIJ without the Silver Series decal and has had a Bassass II added. Not come across this shade Blue before but such a nice Bass, weighs in at just under 4kg and has nice punchy pick-ups and 40mm nut width. It came with a different scratch plate and creme covers, swapping them out I noticed there was a brass plate below the pickups in the cavity. Not an expert on early Squiers so if anyone can help with some background...?

  10. Keep the Wal and buy a Harley Benton shorty as a second bass and modify as you go along. More fun and you don't need to feel bad about selling the bass. Second option sell the bass and give Alan at ACG a ring and discuss your requirements with him.

  11. I'd say it was better than using standard foam tips but not as good as proper custom moulds. That said I was also impressed with the comply t600 foam tips. My wife helped me do the diy moulds and that made life easier. The best bit is that as soon the second ear was filled with putty I couldn't hear a word she was saying for 10 mins.

  16. Just got back from rehearsals, so these are first impressions only., From the moment I plugged it in everything sounded just a bit better. It was still my tone, only with a bit more definition and punch. It might be the fact that I had the comp on, but whatever it was, I liked it a lot. The EQ is pretty subtle, but it seems to be just at the right frequencies. It’s no Q/strip, but it more versatile than my BDDI and VTBass. The drive section wasn’t quite as positive. Kicking in the stock tome print I lost the fullness and low end. Beaming the Natural tone print resulted in a nicer OD, but nowhere near as nice as the Aftershock. In fact the AS sounded really nice after the Spectrdarive, better than it has ever been. The two work really., really well. The Spectrcomp sounds exactly like I remember from the standalone, so no complaints there, and its nice to have it integrated. The ‘issue’ I have with it though, is, like the Q/strip, its not going to colour my tone like I’m used to with the BDDI etc. This isn’t a bad thing as such, nor a negative, just that I will still need to use other boxes to add the colour. Tonight ill test out thei headphone side, cant wait as that was the original reason for getting it.

  22. ...about your band. Apologies if this has been covered in other topics but I searched and couldn't find anything. I'll start things off with a few... Our male singer never turns up for rehearsals (it's his band and he books most of the gigs...) The band spend hours practicing a new song at the rehearsal the singer never turned up for to play at a gig the following weekend then the singer decides he doesn't want to sing it because he hasn't rehearsed it... During every gig our drummer always asks "what's the next song?" despite everybody having a printed set list (which is more or less the same every time) and he's supposed to start most of the songs... Our lead guitarist always plays a bit of the next song before we start it - he says it's so he can remember the key - which means every gig is like "name that tune"... Our female singer sits drinking a bottle of white wine playing sudoku before each gig whilst we're setting all the gear up... She sometimes drinks too much white wine and forgets where she is in songs and sings the chorus during verses and vice versa (not helped by being as blind as a bat but refusing to wear her glasses so she can't read her songbook...) Our rhythm guitarist has the most expensive gear in the world (Taylor acoustic, AER amp, PRS custom electric) but still needs to read the chords off his iPad despite playing 75% of the same songs from when he started the band nine years ago... The bass player (me) strolls in 5 minutes before soundcheck and tries to sneak away as soon as the gig finishes to avoid helping with the PA and lights...!

  23. PRICE REDUCED - NOW £750. Now sold. Thanks for all the interest. Up for sale is my 2015 Fender American Standard Precision bass in the best colour combo - Olympic white/Rosewood/Tort. This is a lovely bass in great condition. There are no issues whatsoever and it plays beautifully. The only marks on the bass are the usual markings on the scratchplate from use. It weighs in at 3.7kg (8 1/4 lbs) so, on the lighter side. It comes with a genuine Fender deluxe hardcase. Unfortunately there is no case candy present. I'm not looking for any trades at the moment - sale only. I'm based in Bolton, Lancashire. I can post if required for £25.00 courier fees.

  24. Thought I’d share my bit of Surf Green joy on this wet and miserable Monday 😁. Saw this on a well known auction site and fell in love at first sight but unfortunately the seller was miles away. Now I like a drive as much as the next gas head, but this would have been about 4 hours each way. Step forward the extremely helpful seller (the original and only owner) who offered to meet me halfway. Met him at the weekend and I’m certainly not disappointed with the bass, it really is in unmarked condition. A 2006 model according to the Sandberg website, the bass came with the original gig bag, tag showing the woods and serial number, Allen keys and even a spare pre-amp (apparently this was a sweetener to the owner as the original delivery from Sandberg was delayed for some reason). It’s a weighty beast but that’s good for me as I do like to know I’m wearing something when I play it. I’d say it’s a similar weight to the poplar or ash Stingrays I’ve had previously. Plays beautifully and has a great range of powerful tones. I’m loving the split coil in both active and passive, but I’m also pleasantly surprised by the tone with both pickups on together. Very punchy sound with added oomph! All in all the first impressions of my first sandy are very good indeed 😁

  26. This bugs me, too. It's not necessarily that they haven't spent enough, it's that they don't know what's good value and what isn't - which also shows a lack of interest. For example, my HB Strat cost less than £60, but I'd put it up against any USA Strat. Nice guitar.

  33. My penny's worth from what I've seen: Having low and hi mid EQ is rather useful, especially when you've got used to it with GK stuff. That distortion sound in the video is really nothing to write home about but I'd be very surprised if there weren't other more usable Toneprints. As per the comment about the SA Aftershock, digital OD can be very good - I only sold mine prior to getting a Kemper. I think the usable compression, headphone option and "sheen" on a sound (much like the BDDI provides) when engaged makes this a good deal; kind of tempted to use it as a travelling practice box and also for volume and EQ boost. I look forward to more videos!

  35. All I can tell you is that it was bought new in Germany, before its owner (my uncle) went to live in the States in around 1996! The BadAss was fitted 10 yrs later when my first go at a build was broken down for parts (a sad day). It looks better with the original bits back on - what was I thinking?!?! Pretty sure I put the serial number in to an online decoder years ago and it told me the factory it was built in (can’t remember now though) so maybe try that too? Glad your happy with it! I’ve started concocting all sorts of strange mod ideas for the tele!

  36. Sorry I can't resist and it's probably not what you want to hear. Why Class AB? you probably think there is a 'digital' sound? Honestly you won't be able to hear a difference, all else being equal. Your bass amp is made of three parts, a pre amp that shapes the sound, the power amp stage that makes the watts and a power supply that... supplies the power for the amp. The two things that primarilydetermine the sound of the amp at high power are the pre amp shaping and whether the power supply is adequate for the job. I'm not telling you all amps are equal, just that the class of the power amp isn't the critical factor. You specify a compact, and I'm assuming lightweight amp. They only achieve this if they have a switch mode power supply. Anything with a big and heavy old style copper wire transformer is going to be big and heavy by definition. If you have a lightweight switch mode power supply then you might as well have an efficient switch mode amplifier. If there was a difference in heft (there I said it) between the old heavy amps and the new switch mode amps a lot of that is down to poorer power supplies than the more mature designs of the old class AB amps. There are later models of class D with decent supplies. I don't know of anything with an old heavy power supply and a class AB power amp but maybe someone else will come along with a suggestion. It doesn't matter, audition a range of amps, if the only ones that sound the way you want are heavyweights you'll have to suck up the job of carrying them but I think you should give the newer amps an audition. Just think, if you play a big venue your amp is just a stage monitor, the bass you hear at big concerts comes from the PA and that will certainly be Class D. You'll never get that big a sound with your bass stack. Actually I've just noticed you wanted to bypass the pre amp, why not just buy a PA amp, run it straight off whatever you are already using, your sound but louder. Cheaper than a bass amp with a pre amp you don't want to use anyway.

  38. Family safe formula is the one you need re:sugru. I still reckon custom sleeves will be better than home brew, as the key thing for a good custom fit is getting a moulding that passes the second bend of the ear. I personally wouldn't want to be stuffing stuff in my ear that deep with out the cotton gauze that stops the moulding stuff going too deep into your ear.

  40. A fantastic and very versatile multi FX. At its core it is a dynamic flanger, a double phaser (one dynamic, blended with an lfo based one) and a step filter. Internally you can switch this to all be manual rather than dynamic, so you can get regular flanger, phaser and envelope filter sounds. £SOLD Inc UK postage, PayPal only please - gift preferred

  41. Every time you do a string change to a different manufacturer, even the same gauge, you should check the set-up on your bass. Tension can vary quite a bit even in similar gauges.

  42. I’d suggest something like this: https://www.thomann.de/gb/alesis_multimix_4usb.htm decent build quality and a usb that won’t be too latent, you’ll need a mini jack to 2x1/4” cable for your iPad.

  47. Hi Josh, This is about a simple as repairs can get, although it's still best left to someone who has some experience soldering. A new connector can be had at several places in the net, for example RS components have a pack of 5 of them for £1.06, so about 21p each. The new connectors come with 6 inches or so of wire - you could either trace back the old connectors back to where they attach to the circuit board, unsolder them and solder in the new ones, or (slightly simpler, but less elegant) you could just cut the old connector off, join up the wires with some solder, then use insulating tape to make sure nothing shorts out. 10 minutes work either way once you have the connector, as long as you can solder - it shouldn't be too hard to find someone who can solder if you can't, or don't have the kit.
