  4. Sorry but that's horsesh!t. Bowie used samples in loads of songs. Remember that tune he made with Goldie in the 90s? It was all samples.

  5. Right. I tried the QSC at rehearsal last night. Observations: - 5 piece band: drums, keys, 2 guitars, bass + vocals (Americana/rock) - Plenty of headroom - more than enough. Lots. Like buckets of it. I was at about half vol on the QSC and controlled volume on the bass or Preamp pedal. - It plays with Preamp pedals very well - gave a good representation of the sound I was after - Lots of bass for a 4 string - never felt like the lows were struggling - No parping out or rattling - nice and smooth. Response was as good as a Barefaced Compact and it was louder. - Projection across the room was also good All in all it worked very well.

  10. None of my basses play like butter thankfully. I play in a mod band and often sport a tonic suit. The mixture of heat a dairy based spreads would be a disaster.

  11. I have one of these. Was my main gigging bass for many years. Best neck I’ve ever played. These are super rare now, especially in the UK.

  12. I had a nice pair of Vanderklay 1x12 MNT's with it, but also tried, 2x10 and 1x15 combo, and a 2x12 Eminence custom cab with the D800. Loved the D800, but the whole rig was a fair bit of money to carry around, then joined a band where I needed a monitor and didn't have one. So I decided to go down this route. Happy so far, early days, but I miss the tone from the Mesa D800. With the two DI's out from the Subway DI, I figure I can feed one into the QSC and one into the desk, and then mix my own mix on the back of the FRFR. So... Bass into pedal board, Mesa DI, FRFR, earplugs, and I'm done. It's certainly plenty loud enough, that's for sure. I haven't tried the Mesa DI yet, I'll probably order one this week...

  13. Tomas recently bought a pedal from me. Great deal - swift comms and payment. No hesitation in recommending. Cheers, Tobie

  14. I’ve got a ton of pedals but for my “clean” I disengage everything and just go dry bass > hi-Z input on mixer set flat > speaker. My basses sound phenomenal straight in with no tone shaping other than their own onboard EQ controls.

  15. In that case, getting yourself one of these monitors is the perfect move. I’ve just discovered this myself and now I can’t imagine having a better rig. My usage scenarios are identical to yours. A quality FRFR speaker is a jack of all trades and master of all.

  17. Not the usual sort of thing that I post, but as it's January I've been thinking a lot about how to get the most out of practising and realised that there's not much point putting in the hours if you can't focus in the first place: There's a more detailed rundown of all the books, apps and strategies mentioned in the video HERE The site has had a facelift and been transferred to a new server, so things should be looking better and running more smoothly than before. New transcriptions on the way next week...

  20. Barefaced Compact - bit of a stalwart round these parts. I chose the 10's as a compromise between output and size/weight It's fine at low volumes - obviously you lose a bit of bottom, but it does a good job.

  21. Our first music video. I'm on drums and don't look great but never mind, I'll learn for next time. Our guitarist put all the footage together etc and I was well impressed...

  22. Might be worth adding - I used to use a LM Mk III with a BF Compact for rehearsing in the same room - with the Preamp into the fx return. That would have been set to 50% on gain and just over 70% on Master for a similar volume level. The reality is that volume (or at least sound pressure wise) the QSC gives monitoring volume about the same as a decent 500w head into a 15" cab. Depth wise it's not as full and rich as a 15" cab, but it gives a much wider and fuller sound - more detailed, and more expansive. My original intention was to have this for on stage monitoring and direct to PA for gigging - it does this perfectly and fulfils the brief completely. Oh, and it's one thing to carry and a lot smaller and lighter than a big cab and an amp head...

  23. I've played one. They weigh a ton because the body is so large. Plus, they don't sound the same as the guts are totally different.

  24. the bass fly rig has a clean boost too, use it. you can select it before or after the sansamp module. Use it before for that extra dirt. works for me. or, buy the Ampeg SCR DI, I love mine. Love my fly rig too, it's always a dilemma which one to use lol

  31. Hi guys, sorry to be a pain, but I've been inundated with many offers to buy already in such a short space of time. I'm going to see if I can move my Kingbass on first also advertised, as I have three Kingbasses and only one Precision. It may well be back up soon...we'll see...

  33. Same here with Fat Beams. However, everytime I try a new set I get a little disappointed... until they wear out *just* a little bit, then I remember why I liked them so much. If I were an extravagant billionaire man, I'd have a guy wearing all my strings to perfection before I play them.

  34. Think of it this way, say another band on the same night had an extra guitarist and keys - the FOH would have to deal with those extra channels then, why should you be treated any different. Just class the B9 as your keyboard player! The B9 has a dry output, so unless you want to split your signal beforehand so you can send an octave up into the B9 (which I recommend trying), just go into the B9 first and send the dry output to the rest of your bass chain. I really like the B9 going into a bit of overdrive or even a dirty guitar amp (that you could then mic up), so give that a try too!

  35. What’s your monitoring going to be like? If good then I’d say take your bass and Evo head since you have all your modelling etc in there. If there’s no guarantee of decent monitoring then take you cab too, just in case. Better to have it and not need it than the other way around.

  42. Hi guys, woah, there's really no need for this kind of conjecture! I'm sorry my original posting may have seemed so cryptic, I just really had no idea how to go about doing this. First up I have no intention of selling this bass nor am I a scam artist / Chinese infiltrator i am a guitarist (i know, sorry about that) who also enjoys playing bass who seemingly got some amazing luck and I'm just trying to estabslh ownership of a fantastic instrument so I can feel comfortable abut enjoying it, or if I discover that this actually wasn't meant for me then I shall gladly return it to whoever it should rightfully belong to. It really is that simple. It was bought at a Bootsale of all places so you can probably see my thoughts about its origin. After getting it home and realising it actually wasn't the Chinese fake I first thought I went, uh oh, has some poor son / daughter, neice / nephew sold this on without realising what it is they had? I have searched for any reference to the instrument having gone missing / been stolen and there is absolutely nothing I can find so I'm hoping I am, as Trevor so eloquently put it in a p.m., the luckiest bu*^er around, haha. but until i've done my very best establish that I shall keep this thread active in the hope that someone may make a connection somewhere and get in touch. I can say that once this is resolved either way I shall post full pictures and details up as it is an interesting instrument and one of those OMG moments and maybe then you'll realise why I'm unable to do so at the moment (sorry again if that seems rather cryptic!!!!).
