  1. Received this just the other day after BillyBass posted it up on here as being on a blowout deal with PMT. Have looked it over and over and can't see any flaw. Action was high when it arrived - now sorted and there was no battery in. Originally thought I had a dud. Also there is no passive tone control which is a bit of a missed opportunity. The good bits - the roasted neck is an absolute joy - it has a really comfortable profile and luminlay side dots. The DiMarzios sound great passive and the preamp is not anywhere near as bad as I was expecting. This is some hiss on the treble and mid pots but only at the extreme end of travel. I tried it passive through my Sadowsky SBP2 preamp pedal and...well it has that sound which with my Valenti having the Sadowsky preamp and the subject of my NBD pt2 also having one, I'm growing to love that signature tone more than any other I think. Lots of other cool little appointments on this bass but lastly the lustre to the finish is up there with the USA Musicman and G&L basses Ive owned. The pics really don't do it justice. Looking forward to gigging this one next weekend!

  2. Up for sale is my lovely Ray special.....the bass has no chips, dents or scratches and is in beautiful condition bar a small scratch on the E string tuner key...the bass features a roasted maple neck and fingerboard and a nicely figured natural 2 piece swamp ash body, yes there are more snazzy colours, etc, but they have to use quality wood for a natural finish!.....Bass weighs in at 7.9 lbs......Will come with a hard Musicman case (a few marks on the case)......Will include UK shipping in with the price (this will be at the buyers risk but rest assured it will be well packed for shipping), alternatively you could arrange your own courier if preferred.

  4. I’m quite pleased with the results. I’ve never considered myself much of a handyman before. The last time I tried to solder I burned myself and the carpet. My dad usually keeps his DIY tools locked away, out of my reach. He’s away on holiday though, and I know where he keeps the key.

  6. Selling my Mayones Cali 4 mini bass. I bought it last year as I'd planned to be away for work more but it never came to be so its been sat in its case untouched with the exception of me filming one youtube video which I'll link so you can see clearly how it looks/sounds. Its great for having downstairs if you just want to chill on the sofa, for travel, you can even gig it if you like. I bought an octave pedal with it which sounded great but never ended up gigging it. If you told someone you bought this bass brand new they'd believe you, that's the condition it's in. Will post photos of the instrument, the certificate from Mayones and the spec sheet from them which should have all the details you need. Edit: this has both 3 band pre amp and headphone output. Early models came with one or the other, this has both! This is the only cali 4 I've seen where they've added multiple accents to the body. The level of craftsmanship is absolutely fantastic. Youtube video - what you hear is the bass recorded direct into garage band with no post-EQ. Sad to see it go but I'm fancying an old fender Jazz or Stingray and this little chap gets the least use! As for shipping I'd prefer to have it collected or me to drop it off. If necessary I will ship at buyers expense. These are £1450+ brand new so given its condition I feel £1200 is a fair price. Sturdy mayones gig bag included. Any questions give me a shout! Cheers, Danny

  7. Hi Folks. Up for sale here, we have a wonderful handbuilt bass, by master luthier Roman Koc of GMR in Poland. Overall condition is very good, A few dings here and there on the back of the body.. 34 inch scale. 38mm nut. Lightweight, I don't have scales but less than 4Kg Transparent Black Flame maple top and headplate. 3 piece flame maple neck with walnut stringers. Maple fretboard. Black Ash body.. Delano jazz pickups. Nordstrand 2 band preamp, 9V Active/passive, push/pull volume control. Balance control. Bass control. Treble control. ABM bridge. Gotoh style tuners. Semi rigid case. The bass plays and sounds fantastic. Mega punchy, with slim and fast neck profile.. non original truss rod cover..one small screw missing on bridge, to hold saddle in place..but doesn't move..can be replaced.. GMR basses don't come up that often for the simple reason they are that good..I also have a GMR bassforce 4 string which is going nowhere!!.lol This is a bargain price! Any questions please ask.. Cheers

  11. Just make your own A guy I know built one as a tribute to Steve Harris, but painted it in the colours of his local pro club ADO Den Haag. I think he later also added a custom decal with the Fender badge but in his local dialect (in The Hague that would be "Fendâh"). I think it's awesome

  12. Passive OLP Stringray 5 String clone in very good condition. £250 collected, Chorley Lancashire e or can post for £25. OLP manufactured these licensed from Ernie Ball MM. Great Stingray banger with a good range of tones available, actually gets close to a Stingray sound well. Finished in lovely blue sparkle finish, which is difficult to capture in the photos. I believe the spec is: Features: Elm body North American Maple neck Maple fingerboard 21 jumbo frets 34" scale Black dot fret markers Chrome hardware Open gear machine heads Music Man-style humbucker One tone and 2 volume controls

  18. A few very lovely Mesa Boogie 400 / 400+’s on this thread, but not the rarer beast it evolved from: the D-180. Here’s my mid ‘80’s one. I've owned a few valve amps over the years; 1970’s Orange 100W and Fender Bassman 135, Ampeg SVT 2, and Trace Twin Valve. Settled on this for the last few years (though to be honest with recent bands it hasn’t really had a chance to get out much 🙁) - plenty of power, portable (easy one hand carry), a mere 6 power valves at re-valve time, DI out, and of course fabulous tone. Unlike the 400 it’s 2 channel; a clean one for bass and a second for guitar with the same cascade saturation circuit as the Mesa mark series guitar amps - which of course is pretty filthy on bass too! 😎

  19. 1994 Ernie Ball Sterling USA 4H. £1200 collected or near meet Orpington BR6. Generally fantastic condition for age. Beautiful sunburst and Birds Eye maple figuring. A few things to note: At least two of the tuners look ever so slightly bent (the bit you hold to turn). There’s a patch of finish damage under the pickguard near the neck which looks like it’s been glued back. Was like it when I got it so not sure how it’s been done. Small scratch on pickguard which goes to body. Fairly light and looks to be in top coat only. Some very minor marks to body consistent with normal use. Comes with an old and tatty but functional hard case. UK Postage considered if no “local” interest. Weight to follow. Any questions or if more pics are needed, fire away. No trades or offers at the moment, thanks!

  20. Now £2000 with free mainland UK shipping I may live to regret this but up for sale is my Vigier Passion IV (2020). What is there to say about these basses. They have a very loyal and passionate (pun intended) following here on Basschat, and with very good reason. The proprietary pickups in their ‘bridge-biased’ position provide untold amounts of punch. The 3-band preamp also gives you access to a huge amount of different tones, so chances are that whatever style of music you’re playing you’ll find the right sound here. This bass cuts through the mix like no-one’s business, is super comfortable to play and has the best finish of any instrument I’ve laid my hands on. There are a couple of slightly uncommon features on this bass that are also worth highlighting. The first is that there is no truss rod. This is because the neck is made from phenowood – that is, wood injected with a phenolic resin which means that the neck doesn’t move as a result of temperature or environment changes. So no more worrying about bowed necks or fiddly setups! The other cool feature is the locking input jack. Once your cable is plugged in it’s not going anywhere, so you’re unlikely to suffer from loose connections or accidentally pulling your cable out mid-set. Other specs are (taken from the Vigier website): Neck Wood : Maple naturally dried for 3 years Shape : D Finish : Glossy Width of neck at nut : 40 mm/1.57 " Width of neck at last fret : 56,4mm / 14.32 " Depth of neck at first fret : 19,5mm / .76 " Depth of neck at 12th fret : 23mm / .90 " String spacing at nut : 31,5 mm / 1.24 " String spacing at bridge : 53 mm / 2.125 " Action as supplied at 12th fret, treble : 1.8 mm / .0709 " Action as supplied at 12th fret, bass : 2.3mm / .0906 " Type of nut : Teflon nut + hardened zero fret technology Fingerboard Wood : Phenowood Radius : 300mm/11.81 " Type of frets : Medium Number of frets : 24 Scale length : 860mm / 33.8 " Inlay : Dots Body Wood : Flamed maple / alder / flamed maple naturally aged Finish : Varnish dries for 5 weeks minimum Accessories Machine heads brand name : Schaller Type of bridge : One bridge per string End pin : Brass casing that inserts deep into the body and locks the strap button in place Finish : Chrome Electronics Pickup brand name : Vigier Type of pickup : Single, twin coil in line Switch : Balance Controls : Volume Balance Bass Medium Treble Shielding : Conductive paint Miscellaneous Weight : 3,8Kg / 8.3lbs This bass is immaculate (to the extent the original stickers are still present!) – home use only and without any significant dings or scratches. The only reason I’m selling is because it’s not getting the attention it deserves and I could do with the cash for other things. I also believe that Patrice Vigier has now closed his order books as he is retiring – so short of keeping your fingers crossed and hoping one pops up for sale elsewhere, this is probably your best bet of getting a Passion IV in this condition for a good while, or maybe ever! No trades or offers please. Collection preferred as I would like you to try before you buy. I can also offer excellent, in-person bass chat (another pun intended) and as much tea/coffee as you desire if you make the effort to come and see me. However I am willing to ship if preferred - please contact me to discuss though as I will need to arrange. Also feel free to check out my feedback here and approach me with confidence 😊

  33. It's a nice looking bass and indeed, quite rare. I have joked in the past that Stanley loved his so much he put it in a case and didn't revisit the idea for thirty years! Alright, he didn't shelve them immediately but he wasn't exactly 'spellbound' for long the first time around. I actually thought that the next model, released in 2001, was more attractive, aside from the rather ugly back plate. Again, these were massively expensive at the time and didn't seem to form a part of Stan's regular arsenal.
