I haven't been on much other than lurking over the last few months, so wanted to drop by and say HEY and 'Merry Christmas!' to everyone. I've not long finished by first term at Uni (For those who don't know I'm doing the BA Hons in Music with Bass at ACM in Birmingham) and it's been a wild ride with a steep learning curve, but I'm LOVING it. I've already learnt so much and I've barely even started. I've even started listening to/playing JAZZ. What the hell... 1986, Japanese, rare as rocking horse poop. Acquisitions mean it’s clear out time…not every day you accidentally buy a musicman sabre. I say accidentally… Anyhow, this bass is special. Identical to that of Tony Kanal’s “Tragic Kingdom” bass Its in very good condition for its 35 years, some buckle pressure marks on the back and tarnishing to the gold hardware. Will come in a TKL padded Gibson Bag - and will have spare pickup surrounds and a few other golden yamaha bits. I’ll get some stick for listing this - and all those who’ll give me stick will know that I just don’t hang on to gear. wearing played in GHS boomers…still a bit of life left in them… collection is preferred, but I would ship at buyers risk and cost - I suspect due to value it might be about £45. £925 NYE price drop13 points -
Bought as “unused since the day it was bought”. Stands to reason its in 9.9/10 condition. One tiny mark on the back - I didn’t spot it so it may have happened in my ownership. I have swapped the bridge pickup for a Fender noiseless vintage model, when I surveyed others experiences of Aerodyne basses, the main comment was that the solo’ed bridge pickup was noisy. I also don’t feel much towards the stock chrome strat type knobs, so got some Fender pure vintage jazz knobs. All original parts will be in the deal - pickup was de-soldered at the pot, not just randomly hacked out… Also on the way is a padded fender bag as it came with the original box and nothing else… wearing brand new d’addario 45-100’s. I will include the (still ok) fender strings. Sounds warm, very clean. Collection is preferred as I’d hate a courier to have a pop at something so “new”. but shipping can be done at risk and cost. I am selling a very special (and quite rare) bass: an Ibanez GWB1005. It is the top of the game version of the Gary Willis fretless basses, made in Japan and currently sold first hand at 3999 euro (that's at least the cheapest price that I could find). Superb fretboard, in any case, and great tone. The bass is located in Bilbao (Sp), with original hardcase. A real treasure. The price is 2100 euro (1780 pounds as of today), nearly half the price you have to pay in the store. The weight of the bass is aprox. 3.5 Kg (ca. 7.8 pounds) I need to edit the ad to point out one thing: I had originally mentioned that it was in mint condition. That was indeed my memory. After checking it out I have found some mini scratches (barely three milimetres and barely visible) on top of the headstock and the usual marks on the back of the bass. Nothing spectacular, but the bass is, indeed, not mint after all. I have also been mentioned a "line" on top of the nut. It does have a narrow, thin line in there, I would say it is where the ebonol has been joined to the headstock, but I really can't tell. Or maybe it is a little line in the paint. Good detective work in finding it, in any case. It also has a hair inside of the hardcase and there are some specks of dust on the bass 🙄. In any case, there aren't any flaws in the nut, headstock or anywhere whatsoever in this bass. I own it, I have played it and it is, if not mint (which I can't say it is, of course, since it has some little marks), at the very least in very, very good condition. Best, Gorka6 points -

I've thought about this a lot and I've decided to let go of this fantastic bass. Excellent build quality, this will change your mind about anything bad you've heard about Mexican Fender basses. Best neck ever - super slim, action low and buzz free. Really nice sounding pickups. Not at all harsh even when wide open. Nice and light (8.5-9lbs by bathroom scales - ok, not super accurate but this def feels sub 9lb). Short run bass so quite unusual and a really nice colour. I'm a bit of a tort fanatic so I had a tort plate on it which I'll supply. Prefer local pickup in Brighton but I could box it up and send within UK. The only issue is a minor nick in the binding/lacquer between 2 and 3rd fret which I've tried to show in the pics. I'm selling because I don't like to take it on a gig for fear of putting another nick in it somewhere!5 points -

It is very old but told each time as if the teller was Oscar Wilde reborn. If I may offer perspective on this one, having been vegetarian for almost 30 years - dare I say, before it was cool - and knowing quite a lot of vegans, I find vegans tend to have to speak up when they're innocently offered (or asked about why they won't have) milk in their tea, butter on their toast, cheese on their bread, milk chocolate on their digestives, etc, any of the animal products they choose not to consume which are a mundane part of everyday life. Then they're castigated (not to their face, of course) for telling everyone they're vegan in the stereotypical way and we all have a laugh at them for vegan signalling, having usually been forced into speaking up or asked about it in the first place. For the meat eaters, just FYI they're making jokes about you in the same way when you're boring the tits off people insisting on telling then about your barbecue, how you slow roast your lamb shanks, your overnight marinades and how they don't know what they're missing (hint, many of them do and moved on). Sneaky vegans are everywhere, conspiring against you. Now, could someone tell me again how great their last rare steak was, it has been so long since someone insisted on telling me. Oh wow, I've just veggie-signalled. Ooops!5 points

Hi folks, This is a brilliant and incredibly rare bass but time to thin the herd and this one is the next one out, main reason being the neck is so slim it feels weird after playing upright bass so it gets played the least. But it does look amazing and so hangs on the wall begging to be played... Usual Tobias gorgeousness with through-neck maple/purpleheart and solid zebrawood wings. The body is matt and I suspect waxed rather than satin varnished. Not sure what the fingerboard is but I'd say pao ferro at a guess. Standard Bartolini humbuckers and three band preamp. Superfast slim neck and wicked deep sounds finger style or slap, makes me chuckle every time I pick it up. Nice low action and no issues with neck or frets. Don't have the exact weight to hand but would guess around 4.2kg. Condition is great only points to note a small scar inside the lower cutaway (see pic) which could probably be wax-filled but it never bothered me to try; and a little scuffing/discolouration below the G-string from finger popping, have to look closely to see it (see pic). I don't have a case for this one but can figure out a safe way to package and ship if needed. Visits to come try are welcome!4 points -

The only thought that occurs to me is that about 1.6% of the UK pop'n is vegan. Even if we triple that percentage to allow for higher uptake among younger people that still potentially restricts the band to only about 1 in 20 aspiring singer / front persons*, a body which in itself is comprised in the main of deluded fantasists, front people who can't sing and singers who can't front. So chuck in the requirement to be vegan and they might have an even longer wait than usual. Or they might not. My indifference is unshakeable. * Look at me, all sensitive like.4 points

Just finishing my second run-through. Paul has just spotted the coppers behind him on the roof and turns around with the most mischievous and joyous grin. Knowing the jig is up, they barrel straight into Get Back as Don't Let Me Down ends. Class. Yeah, it's tedious at times, but that's the story. It wasn't just "Tell me what you want me to play and I'll play it" -> Roof. It probably helps that rural living affords me the opportunity to watch it all at close to concert volume 😂4 points

I made the mistake of watching some of the Coldplay documentary on Sky Arts a couple of weeks ago. They really encapsulate what is bad with current music...the sheer blandness of it. How much more magnolia music can they inflict on the public. It's all so safe, lacks creativity or risk. Apparently they've taken 20yrs to release 9 dull albums! In comparison, The Beatles recorded 13 albums in 8 years, many of which are still highly influential. Weren't they the ones who someone coined the term 'bedwetter core' to describe them.3 points

You do understand the concept of a joke. You take one person's behaviour and you stretch it to extremes to lampoon it. That's the current problem with cancel culture that Maureen Lipman is trying to get through. People are too sensitive and will take offense before they've even examined why something is funny. We live in a society where there appears to be this big social engineering experiment going on; (just like Mr Benn) you can be whatever you want to be and we're told we need to be accept that and be respectful of people's religion/gender and be non-discriminating/sexist/ageist etc. I'm of the mindset that the whole respect element (in some cases) is a one way street; I'll respect someone's choice to be vegan, but it works the other way too; I don't need to be on the end of a lecture if it's my choice to eat a burger. (Yes, it's happened...bleedin' guitarists, tsk.) Getting off my soapbox, do you want a decent vocal performance from a carnivore or some Yoko Ono type screeching because it ticks a box? Very dubious about that fretboard radius. I've never seen one so severe, but i love the tone , and yes tone is very personal like the shape and wood of basses, but i love the whole thing, with some reservation about that radius. Not remotely like a Macca bass at all, but still. If it were a 4 banger, i'd get me one of those, despite looking slightly amateurish in the finish in certain areas.3 points

My bass turned up yesterday - thanks dad! He shipped it to me from the UK for Christmas. It looks like I put a 3-band 9v preamp in there. It works and sounds pretty good but I need to figure out how to relocate the jack socket and probably put some foam around the battery. The bass could use a good setup, the action is pretty high and I’d like to replace the bridge eventually but it works for now. Photo with an ampeg ba110 that I managed to pick up for $20 not working. Looks like somebody had pulled out the headphone jack while the amp was on and made it go bang. Just sanded the contacts a touch and works perfectly.3 points
