  1. Jamerson/Parker/Coltrane et al, all played in a non-repetitive style. One of the things with your average overplayer, is that they end up repeating themselves very quickly. The same licks, in different songs.
  2. Who appointed Fodera as King of the bass world anyway... There are lots of top level names who don't play them.
  3. Which one would you choose to be stranded on a desert island with? A Jazz bass would do for me.
  4. Fretless has a habit of concentrating the mind.
  5. Expensive doesn't always mean good. I've learned that one by experience.
  6. I much prefer the sound of the Sire...
  7. Everything in its right place. There's nothing to prove.
  8. I blame Futurism for the whole crock of new products and the fascination with Musk.
  9. You pays your money and you takes your chances if you're buying off Dodgy Jack.
  10. Sounds a bit tappity to me, like it could do with an oil change.
  11. The sound of the prawn cocktail starter was louder than the band.
  12. Eat more spinach. Keep your thumb around or below the centre line at the back of the neck and keep your fingers arched, avoid the grip.
  13. I bought Mother's Milk when it came out, and Fishbone's - Truth and Soul came out around the same time. By comparison, the Chilli Peppers just sounded like a pale imitation, with shouty tuneless vocals over slap lines with nothing of interest to say. Hearing Anthony Kiedis trying to sing after all these years is quite painful.
  14. Ramps are the way to go IMO, a consistent recovery distance all of the time, it stops you from over-travelling and digging in too much. Many players gravitate to playing over the pickups, for that effect. Having a consistent recovery distance, seems like common sense to me. You don't have to buy a ramp, set your back pickup to the same height as your action and tweak from there.
  15. It hasn't got an ego to deal with though. That's worth it alone.
  16. The secret to retaining your mystique is to quit before you become a parody. Having someone who can actually sing helps too.
