  1. Up for sale is my awesome Status Graphite S2. Ordered from Rob in 2016 I've been the sole owner. Great bass and unbelievable neck. 34" scale length. The bass is in excellent condition with the exception if one small ding as shown in the photos. There are some tiny cracks in the lacquer next to some of the frets - I emailed Rob about this in 2019 and he said it was just cosmetic - no change since then. I tried to capture this in a photo but they really are tiny so can't really see them. Weight is around 4.4kg-4.6kg as far as I can make out on my scales. Comes with Status branded hiscox case. Any questions give me a shout.

  3. Dear Basschatters, I am selling this beautiful Tokai PB80 that I bought from @silverfoxnik last year (I've included the original ad at the bottom of this ad for more info). It's a stunning bass - all original apart from the bridge which has been replaced for a Schaller 3D model and I replaced the pots as they were scratchy. Since buying from Nik I shielded the cavity, replaced the pots and installed a set of Pino signature flats. I bought for £475 and I have priced accordingly to include the work and strings. The bass has a few cosmetic bumps but nothing that affects playability - the neck is perfect! I'm only selling as I have far too many P basses currently and this one isn't getting used as much as I'd like. Any questions olease don't hesitate to ask! Best wishes, Sam

  4. Reluctantly putting up for sale my Fender Jazz FMT. Limited run in the early 2000's, slightly smaller body and headstock, with a flamed maple top. Currently loaded with a John East preamp, this bass is super versatile and a joy to play. Only selling because I picked up a 5 string version of this bass late last year and can't justify keeping both! Some wear and tear from 20 years of gigging but only cosmetic, adds to the character of the bass IMO! All shown in the photos. Don't see many of these come up for sale Any questions just ask.

  6. So it turned up today, my £63 (inc shipping) bass. Took it out of the box, and out of its gig bag (not great, but.. £63 and it has one, which is more than many do) and marvelled at how really green it was, seriously more green than the pictures. Really nice dark neck, a bit thicker than I would like ideally but ok. Good frets Tuned it up (tuners are ok), and played. It plays well, very impressed. I haven't plugged it in yet, that is tonights thing (comes with a lead too). Knobs feel solid (more solid than the ibanez EHBs). All in all its pretty amazing what you get. I will give it a try at a gig at some point, although they are a bit thin at the moment

  7. Decided that I’m gonna mix things up with the rig this year. I normally change things up every few years. I have a Jule Simone I tentatively listed last year as I was tempted by an Anagram but realised I have very basic gigging needs. With some great preamps now available I’m up for a change! Simone Spec: Jule is a bit vague in describing his gear so I don’t have eq points etc. I do believe the eq is baxandall inspired (think broad, wide and gentle Q giving a lovely ‘global’ feel to the eq and no frequency poking out of the mix - musical would be the best description). These are boost/cut with about 10db per band either direction. The EQ is tube driven Line out is a master output and this thing has tons of output and can drive a power amp (+19dB) Sense control. 4dB gain shift in the lows and some describe it like an input sensitivity making the unit come a bit more alive in the feel. Connected to the boost foot switch Drive adds 2dB-20db gain not dirt (also tube driven). In conjunction with the Sens control adds ‘more’ but it Is not an overdrive flubby tube sound. It adds clarity weight. All vague but listen to the demo below it is a very fair representation of the tone. Dedicated DI volume control - tube driven custom Cinemag transformer The Velcro is from when I would attach my DG Element for on the run, minimal kit IEM gigs and they paired wonderfully together. The best demo and one of the few demo’s can be seen below: Recoded delivery available UK only! Pictures to follow when I get back home.

  8. A really nice example finished in the beautiful Fender Dakota Red. It has had a really nice professional set up - level frets, low playing action & is in excellent condition. It feels about the same size as a Strat to me and weighs in at 2.8Kg, or a tad over 6lbs in ‘old money’ The back of the neck has a lovely flame to the Maple. Other upgrades include a KiOgen wireless loom, Bourns potentiometers, Switchcraft input Jack socket, uprated pickups and a spiffing Celluloid top layer faux Tortoiseshell pickguard. This Bass would be ideal as a travelling instrument, for a beginner, or anyone with smaller hands. Because it is so small - about the same size as a Fender Stratocaster, it is ideal as a studio Bass or just for ‘noodling’ - Guitarists love these as they feel familiar in their hands. Included in the sale is a Gibson heavily padded Levy’s Gig Bag which although is a tad threadbare in places, still provides excellent protection. Can post to the U.K. Mainland at cost price to the buyer - should be £15 to £20 ish Solid Popular Body Maple Neck - Beautifully fingered on this example. Indian Laurel Fingerboard. What Fender say……. 9. Here we have my Spector NS Pulse 5 string bass, just arrived back from Jacks in Manchester where its had a full service and set up, fret dress, new nut, and a transplant of an Aguillar system OBP 2 pre amp and pick ups, for a more rounded sound. Only selling as a Eurobolt 5 arrived to take its place, great sounding and great condition. Grab yourself a bargain. The NS Pulse represents the core of Spector's iconic design. The three-dimensionally carved body is a trademark of the Spector brand and provides a uniquely comfortable playing experience for all bassists. This NS Pulse model features a solid Swamp Ash body paired with a three-piece Roasted Maple bolt-on neck, complete with a Macassar Ebony fingerboard. The roasting process results in a neck that provides enhanced stability & resonance, while the Macassar Ebony fingerboard ensures clear note definition and projection. Perhaps the most striking feature of this bass is the sandblasted finish which highlights the unique grain pattern of each instrument. When paired with our Cinder Red or Charcoal Grey stain, the result is nothing short of stunning. 10. Hey, finally took the plunge and pulled the trigger on a replacement pick up for my cheap Vintage stingray. Bought it as a project to do up over time. Firstly I gothed it right up by swapping all hardware to black previously. Im a serial faffer/breaker of most things i put my hand to but love to give it a go. Im never aiming for super high quality finish just to learn something along the way. Bought an Aguilar AG4M pick up to replace the stock one. While im at it I have replaced the pots and just mirrored what the AG4M diagram says to use. Cleaned and put sheilding tape in the cavity (not sure if it actually helps or not but looks better anyways. Didnt want to try anything too wild for my first attempt at something like this. Big thank you to the advice of a few members that i got on another thread i asked about soldering. All in all enjoyed this first part of the project and to my surprise everything actually works 😂 . Blanked off the other hole with something I found in work. It fits so it's ment to be. Not sure what to do next 🤔. Like the idea of brass nut but think that might be out of my depth. Few pics of progress so far. Needs a good clean up now its done for now

  12. The drummer forgot his cymbals 😖 Including hi-hats. We were in one of Pirates rehearsal studios, and they didn't have anything to lend or rent. So interesting rehearsal. Drummer put a tambourine on the floor tom, and tbf it wasn't too bad.

  16. We regrouped at Bela Lugosi’s Shed for a final pre-production rehearsal, ahead of our studio session tomorrow. We have three songs left to finish the next album and I felt they were sufficiently whipped into shape. Bass aside, I was actually quite pleased with my vocals. It’s always been a challenge for me but I have pushed myself in recent years.

  19. Yup, fun to be there, and of course I got put with a "character" as well which is why we ended up playing Move It On Over as a 13-bar, a novel approach and one with many advantages. 🙄 Nice jam that. Decent venue, loads of free parking over the road, good selection of beers, above all a very friendly bunch. Made a nice change from "Slow Blues in G" and foot-on-the-monitor, braindead Dadrock ... What's that you say, Sooty? Would I like another extended guitar solo? Oh well ... if you insist ... https://www.facebook.com/groups/772330602298385

  20. A wonderfully lightweight Precision Bass with a straight neck, fully functioning Truss Rod, uprated Seymour ‘Duncan Designed’ Pick ups, professional KiOgen wireless Loom with Bourns Pots, Switchcraft input Jack, Fender Spaghetti Logo and comes complete with an Ordo softshell rigid case. Lovely 50’s vintage two tone tobacco sunburst. This is one of the very few sub 8lbs P basses I’ve encountered during the past half Century, weighing in at a mere 3.4kg - or 7.5lbs in ‘old money’ It has had a Luther set up - levelled frets etc. & plays really well with a low action and sounds like a good P Bass should, with more growl than a very growly thing from the Planet Growl. The headstock has had a refin & a spaghetti Fender logo applied to the headstock by a previous owner to a very high standard. Can post to the U.K. Mainland at cost price to the buyer which should be £20 to £25 ish - Parcelforce Express24 & insured with Secursus. What Fender say……. Looks way bigger in pic than it actually is. Only selling to pay off the US Pro I just bought 🙃 Can send more pics, any questions, shoot!

  23. Many years ago our rock covers band used to play at the Rose and Crown in the village of Somersham in Cambridgeshire, Dave Greenfield lived in the big house opposite, right in the centre of the village, on two occasions he was in the pub watching us play, both times he stayed until we finished and had a chat with us while we were packing away, nice chap, passed away too early.

  24. Looking forward to giving this a whirl at practice later. I mainly need a couple of drive options, but I just can't leave home without an octaver of some sort! Broughton BBA and a power bank underneath, but I'm most pleased to have found a new home for the broken watch I found on my desk!

  26. I've been a little neglectful of this thread whilst being away this summer... but the project is complete! Here's a few progress shots... Body stripped and prepared: Primed! Looking waaaay too blue! Ready for go faster stripes Stripes done Big chunk out of the fretboard... Seamlessly repaired... i can't even find it in person. New frets whilst we're at it. And here we go... she's done! Here she is with my other recent acquisition... a 1967 Hofner! I couldn't be happier... she sounds stunning and plays so well. The one I've been looking for for a long time! Going out for our first festival outing together tomorrow (Monday), if anyone is at Twinwood this weekend! https://www.eternal-guitars.com/... I can't recommend Dave highly enough. We've had so many geeky chats about the minor details on this, and it's turned out better than i hoped. His own instruments are stunning too.

  27. I've had mine since October. It's a KILLER! Loads of punch and headroom and heft, if I may say it, simple and brilliantly effective EQ. The hpf is something I'd never really thought of before, but it's a really useful shaping tool which fattens up the bottom end beautifully if counter- intuitively. Who knew that removing bass improved the low end? Everyone bar me, it would seem. I'm not a technical fella so this amp is perfect for me. Just switch it on and it sounds great. Fiddle around and it just sounds greaterer. Build quality looks to be as good as it gets, though time will tell, I guess. As for extras, I'm particularly taken with the USB out which I use to power my tuner. It sounds good through every cab I've put it through. I did some European shows back end of last year with a venue supplied cab at each. No issues with any of 'em, not even the beaten 90's Laney 410 at one nor the ancient Marshall 115 I ended up with at another. I'm the UK I use it with either a Barefaced 210 or 610 and it cooks, fellas, lemme tell ya. I'm doing a UK club tour with Atomic Rooster starting 19th of this month (Coming to town near you!)and I'm planning on using both cabs together. We'll see how that pans out. I'll finalise that set-up during rehearsals next week. I'll keep you informed... Shug

  28. exactly. My thoughts Audio interface: Nice. A good bass and a good player Noble (flat) great, finally just get why this is a standard in the music industry, just works Mantle (flat) would like to compare to my Colourbox v2 - similar but think Mantle would be fatter (I'm basing that on size of transformers!) but EQ on colourbox v good Caveman BP1c - not my thing, scoopy Jad Freer LUCE - ok, I liked it on the other video shared, but to be honest is it much better than turning the bass up a bit after the audio interface? Mystery DI - preferred to the LUCE. Based on what's been said I'm imaging some standard transformer based DI... JDI? (which if it is would be the same transformer as noble) Grace Designs Alix (flat) - I've tried a Grace preamp before and this sounds like that memory, lovely detail but probably better for acoustic instruments than a fender style bass, IMO, very very nice Jad Freer Sisma - not for me. Sounds cheap and nasty compared to the Alix. Origin Effects Bassrig Fifteen (to taste) - sounds amazing. It's obviously doing something completely different to all the clean DI here and does it very well - I'm guessing the cab sim is on from the bottom end roll off? But in the mix - great. Noble (Slight Bass and Treble boost) - still great. Mantle (Slight Bass and Treble boost) - not really changed my opinion compared to above Jad Freer LUCE & Barber Linden EQ - sounds good - nice combo Jad Freer LUCE & Origin Effects DCX Bass - slightly different and prefer to the Linden/Luce combo, not sure why Mystery DI & Barber Linden EQ prefer to Luce Mystery DI & Origin Effects DCX Bass - this sounds really great, the DI really shows off a lovely pedal, makes me want to try one Grace Designs Alix (Slight bass and treble boost) - my ears have gone fluffy from listening to too many clips, sounds like it did before maybe? its good Jad Freer Sisma (EQ to taste, DEEP switch in) - my ears are fluffy but I still don't like this. Obviously all my preferences are subjective

  29. I have to agree with this. I've had a few US Stingray 5s in the past and took delivery of a used first gen Ray35 just this week. As far as I'm concerned I now have a Stingray 5 with a different logo and made in Indonesia. Looks feels and sounds JUST like the real thing to me.

  30. Thanks @silverfoxnik! I really want it to be played rather than sat in the corner. I am doing a bit of a clearout currently as I'm moving and this bass sounds stunning but it deserves more love than it's getting!

  31. Wow, I was only thinking about this bass the other day @sambecker1. I bet it sounds glorious now with those Pino flats and new pots. As you say, the neck on this is lovely and, it definitely has an authoritative, funky character to it sonically, what with that one-piece ash body and maple neck... As I said in my for sale ad for it last year, this bass belonged to the late, great and very much-missed Nick Smith, so it has proper Basschat provenance to it... I think we can all agree that Nick knew a good bass when he played/heard one... And this lovely old, vintage Hardpuncher is definitely one of those! I'm sorry to see it up for sale again so soon, but it really is a 'players bass' that deserves to be played - so hopefully it'll find a new home on here soon. 🙏 Best of luck with the sale, Sam! 👍😊

  33. No drummer last night, he cried off with a fever, the lightweight! So we tried Nice and Sleazy for something easy to do. We can mostly get through it in one pass, but the keyboardist hasn't learnt the solo yet, though she's singing it as well so we can forgive her. I need to work on my timing for "Oh shit, there goes the charabang", I miss the cue so we have to go around again. It doesn't matter, but feels awkward.

  35. Fun time at the Surrey Country Roots Jam last night. Bass players were thin on the ground with a couple of last minute drop outs, so I ended up playing a few tomes. I was down to play four tunes - one of which I’d suggested and three more I was asked to play or had previously volunteered for. Then I got roped in to play with a guy I kinda know from another jam - he’s “a character”and so I played an impromptu, in the wrong key version of Springsteen’s The River and then Country Roads (both hanging on by the seat of my pants). Best thing was, when I first sat down I saw another bass player off to my left who seemed vaguely familiar. However, with that whole “seeing someone you know but in the wrong context” thing, I just couldn’t place him… a which point, he waved and said “Hi”. Of course, it was @Happy Jack who had come along to check the jam out and see what the standard was and the split between proper old school country, country-pop and the seriously betasseled brigade. So good to see him and sit and chat. He ended getting up for one Hank Williams number playing his lovely old Ovation bass.

  37. Excellent session last night with my stoner metal band. I made a switch from my Spector to my 80's Yamaha BB1100S and it was the right choice. Really fun and productive session and we're definitely getting closer to being gig ready. Me and the drummer are starting to understand each others playing better. He at least knows a look of panic from me means "slow down ya bastard!"

  39. Don't forget the old smoothie ... Arguably the best of the bunch , 😛 im not Bias at all gov This is the 40th Anniversary "Old Smoothie" StingRay, A reproduction of StingRay prototype #26, with a custom 2 band , wider custom humbucker , where the pole pieces are adjacent to Strings rather than directly under them , but uses the modern profile 42.5mm neck rather than the vintage slightly more narrow one from the "classic's" Basically a less barky stingray that can get pretty close to a P bass thump when you need it to

  40. Sadly and with apologies to the BCer concerned I wasn't able to go ahead with the trade deal on this so it remains available. I think I might pop it up to one of the midlands shops on consignment sale soon as it's the location/collection/delivery thing that seems to make this a bit of a challenge to sell, certainly from the wilds of East Kent 👍

Oh and the tuning stability is spot on going both ways. Funnily enough its also had a positive impact on the low E string which appears to be speaking much clearer now 🤷‍♂️

  48. I Love Single Cuts but TBH i can't tell you that plugged in they sound any different than any other bass with the same pickup+placement/hardware/string combo (i also do not do the "tonewood" myth) I've seen some people will argue the extra "mass" add to Tone/Sustain...but again i can't say i ever noticed (also check out BASStheworlds YT Hollow body HB review that has a HB in the MM sweetspot...yep you guessed it it sounds like a MM...) i do feel a bit more rumble/sound/tone in my chest due to the way they sit against your torso which i think is nice, this might be what people think is enhancing their tone (is this a bit like Bone induction earphones?) I've built/building a few Singlecuts myself and im also looking at a BTB SC 5 the "BTB865SC" (wow ibby have such memorable Names don't they!) Make sure you order a WIDE strap if you do get one as even the lighter ones are still quite heavy, So SC basses ....are (still) Marmite ?
