  1. Very cool little venue last night, Percy’s in Whitchurch. Decent sound via 2 x Orange 1x15s, although I still prefer my 4x10. The Greco is such a pleasure to play too….. great bass.

  2. A bit different for me last night. Went to see Alex's (our guitarist and bl in Bluesfire) other band for the first time The Rogues. A bunch of youngsters playing rocky britpop. Their new 'Live at Rockfield' ep has a definite Oasis vibe, probably because they had an ex-Oasis producer. On stage they were really good and had a more aggressive sound closer to the 'phonics, kaiser chiefs or manic street preachers. Compensation for not being on stage was being recognised by their bass player's dad 😁 They also announced they are Number 3 in the physical singles chart! 449518951_784893787140517_1242004675697746669_n.mp4

  3. Bacchus Woodline-Handcrafted-Flame Tamo-Made In Japan Beautiful piece of wood, very smooth neck, fairly light, impeccable construction, and amazing tone...the turbo switch is such a nice feature. This just might be my last purchase. Why not, no need for another Jazz bass when you buy the best.

  4. Four increasingly short sets at the Charlbury beer festival today. We were accosted by quite a few people who said they liked what we did, and Witney radio were interested in recording some for one of their programmes.

  5. TONIGHT! Played Sousaphone with The Acid Morris for their Solstice (ish (Solstish?)) dance out under the concrete henge of Spaghetti Junction (Gravelly Hill Interchange for the pedants). The Acid Morris are like nothing you've ever seen, even in your wildest Psilocybin-fuelled fever dreams: Border Morris Dancing to techno remixes of traditional Morris tunes and tonight for the first time ever, a Sousaphone. Probably one of the weirdest things I've ever done, and possibly the world's first (?) Techno-Sousaphone-Morris Dance mashup (under Spaghetti Junction). It was a ton of fun, there were sermons (one entreated the audience (there was an audience!) to teach their tortoises to sing) , testimonies (mostly nonsensical (one about the benefits of Morris cats as opposed to Morris dogs (of which there are many))), there was a bit where we all cast soft toys into a bin bag (not sure why), a speech about how the Sousaphone is in fact the preferred instrument of the angels (followed by a short (improvised) Sousaphone solo) and several techno Morris dances. After that, it descended into a more or less full on rave (with Sousaphone accompaniment) which was ace - it was my first time jamming along to a techo DJ and it went down really well. I don't think anyone there had ever seen/heard a Sousaphone player jamming along with loud dance music under Spaghetti Junction. The ONE TIME your Sousaphone lights aren't charged up, you end up at a rave. LIVID. I was tempted to stay and have one of the funny looking peppermints that were going round, but my designated driver (who is also (sort of) the main idiot (and also my Dad)) was keen to nake a move (and I'm gigging tomorrow) so good sense prevailed and it was back home about 11:30 for a homebrew cider (ABV unknown) and a cheese and pickle roll instead. Their sound system has the potential for hooking up the SA C4 synth pedal, so there's every chance the next outing will involve Sousa -> Wireless mic -> synth pedal, which could be quite something.

  6. I picked this up today and man it’s sooo good and so cheap £699. Just couldn’t resist at that price. after setting up, cutting the nut and dialling in my preferred set up I gotta say it genuinely embarrasses my other basses in the rack which at at a minimum cast twice as much. How is this fair ha. sounds a like a modern jazz, slightly darker, with slightly more tamed mids than my STD jazz 04 but with the active EQ you can of course sculpt it however you want. regardless of all the top level level parts the fretwork is really quite astounding- it’s been nicely levelled so you drop the action down crazy low (okay probably too low right now I’m just excited) and the ends are filed into nice sausages and polished. I’ll do so recording for my Instagram and uploading it here if anyone is interested:) I think if I had to have a life or death bass off where I had to slap tastelessly and overplay in order to stay alive I’d be using this ha

  7. Music Man Stingray Classic For sale is my Music Man Stingray classic in coral red finish. You don't see these very often. The basses from this range are based on the original Pre-EB model. As you can see it has a beautiful flamed maple neck. The bass is in very good and clean condition. There are a few small damages, but nothing significant. The neck is straight and allows low action. Frets are still good too. Weight is around 4.6kg Included is the original branded hardcase. Asking €2.200 Tradewise I am interested in a player grade lightweight vintage Fender J or P (up to mid ´60s) or a Modulus 34´´ Quantum or early version Flea. I´ve got more basses that I could offer in a trade deal (Fender, Alembic, Modulus). I am located in the Netherlands, but happy to ship at buyers risk and expense.

  8. An odd one last night, playing with Nine Lives at the Balaclava Bar in Fraserburgh. We had to get a dep singer, as the gig was booked before we got our new singer on board and she couldn't make it. Thankfully, our previous singer agreed to step in, which is probably the best kind of dep in terms of familiarity with both the material and playing with us. We also got some new powered speakers for our PA. Gig went well, but it was a strange night - it was only moderately busy, but we had people up dancing and I could see people singing along. Yet come the end of most of the songs, nothing, nada, very little response. The floor wasn't even sticky at the end, very unusual for the Balaclava. Oh well, a gig's a gig. Gear used: Epiphone Les Paul (not very) Standard (anymore), then Yamaha BB1200, into Markbass Mini CMD 121P IV + New York 121.

  11. I would suggest that people look at it from both sides. The seller knows they have sent it, they have the tracking information, the courier claims they dropped it off, the buyer says he has nothing! The seller has no way to know what's really going on, the courier has lied through their teeth but neither the seller or buyer really know. The seller is in just a big a bind as you as they rely on the courier information. You both think you are in the right and according to the information you have, you are. The dodgy person here is the courier. Personally speaking I wouldn't leave negative or neutral feedback. You've got the amp, it's been a pain but move on. The learning lesson is don't use cheap courier companies. P2Go are bottom feeders here. I am not the seller just to be clear.

  12. That's good advice, and quite sobering to learn that one could lose some of the value of one's property if one doesn't fulfil the terms of the court order. This, surely, will focus the mind of the luthier - and give @EddieG comfort....

  15. Barefaced Big Twin 2 Gen 3 Comes with a decent cover too. Selling as it’s not getting as much use now as I’m using the Ampeg rig. 1600w @ 4 ohm Weight 24kg I think, easy lift for those with backs of glass. Extreme loudness and full-range accuracy that lays waste to all but the biggest conventional bass cabs. The size of a 4x10" but taller and slimmer so it's easier to move and easier to hear with the output and bottom of a 4x10" plus 1x18" stack, plus far superior dispersion and quicker transient response. For everyone from those wanting to hear their bass like it's through huge studio monitors to those stacking up the gnarliest FX chains and dominating the mix with layers of sound cutting through, sitting under and slotting between walls of guitar noise. Amp not included of course. £950 collected or I can arrange delivery at buyers expense.

  16. Billy Bootleggers in the popular Ouseburn area of Newcastle upon Tyne. Great live music bar with in-house PA & engineer (who actually knows what he’s doing). The bar has three bands on each Saturday, and we had our favourite 5pm kick-off slot. Lots of folk in for the music supplemented by passing trade and with dry warm weather, there was plenty of passing trade. We played well and the bonus of being home by 8pm makes it doubly pleasing. Oh and first gig with the Finally v2 ‘with bass in mind’ and I couldn’t be happier with how this sounds, now at the end of my chain (arguably where it’s supposed to be) it provided a lovely fat warm input to my amp, and the engineer said it’s the best D.I. he’s heard in a while. Oh and we got paid too 😎

  23. There was a Harley Benton hollow body that looked quite similar to the Eastwood Classic series , but was much cheaper. Two pickups. I picked up a Classic IV several years back on kijiji for a good price. Good bass for the money. The HB looked like a deal. I like shortscale hollow bodies.

  24. So left home alone, and with a gig tomorrow night, I pulled the gig rig in tonight and fired everything up. And then I had a thought, maybe I should try the Finally at the end of my board as intended and guess what, yes I liked it. In fact, I really liked it, so out came the the wiring kit and I rewired my board for a second time this week. So this is the current state and what I hope is the final state. I’m really happy with how this is sounding across fretted, fretless, and EUB.

  27. I've got to agree with @binky_bass - if you want a custom bass at a reasonable price then Alan has got to be your man. Build quality is exceptional and he will give you regular updates. Further to the comment about new builders with no form - I have to disagree - our own @Andyjr1515 and @Jabba_the_gut have built some amazing basses(I have at least one from each) and have a solid reputation on here. My own local custom builder, Kersey Guitars, has only recently opened his works and is building his reputation by turning out good quality instruments. Jon Letts besmirches the reputations of small luthiers by his actions - however we should remember that he is doing damage to his own reputation and integrity and we should not judge other luthiers by his performance. Personally I'd be back in the Small Claims Court asking them to enforce the original judgment. This may involve a Legal Charge on his home, which will mean if/when the property is sold YOU get paid. May take some time but you are guaranteed to be paid eventually. See para 3 below. https://moneyadvisor.co.uk/charge-on-property-2/

  29. If you don't like the string spacing then try something else with a wider/narrower spacing. I went through a ton of 5ers before I realised 18mm+ is what I need. I'm not fussy with a 4 but it makes a lot of difference with the extra string(s) IMO. Practice floating thumb technique or your own adaptation of it, particularly if you're playing passages above the bottom two strings (heresey I know). As already said play your 5 exclusively for a while, it won't take long to adapt but going back and forth early on might increase the chances of hitting the wrong string at a gig.

  30. SOLD Price drop to £475 For sale, absolutely no trade offers whatsoever please, and yes I really mean that. 2021 Fender Player 75th anniversary Precision bass, in black / black / maple, 34” long scale, right handed, with upgraded pickups, knobs & wiring, and gig bag. Before I go any further as I know how important this can be, it weighs 3.9Kg / 8.6lbs on my digital luggage scale. It’s still a big ol’ chunk of wood, but lighter than every USA P I’ve had and balances well. It’s in excellent condition as you can see from the photos, has been well looked after (always in hard case when not being played) & is very shiny! There are no dings, paint chips, chunks out of the neck or headstock nibbles. The only minor cosmetic blemishes are: some scratching on the pickguard, 3 longish scratches on the back of the body below the cutaway (very hard to show well on photos as the body is so shiny that it just acts as a mirror!), and some small scratches looking down from the top of the body towards the pickguard, where I tried a trick I read about, which was to slightly unscrew 2 pickguard screws and slide a pick into the gap. I put a Tortex wedge in there, then when I slid it out, that powdery coating stuff that’s on them when new left these scratch marks on the body (I won’t be doing that again!). I’m guessing these may be able to be polished out by someone who knows what they’re doing, but if you know anything about black basses, these marks really aren’t that bad compared to the battle scars than can and do end up on them, and only really noticeable in certain lights / angles anyway, but I’d rather mention these minor blemishes as I pride myself in honest descriptions. It has a really lovely gloss poly maple fingerboard with nice fast satin urethane finish on the back of the neck. Usual 1.625” P width nut. The neck profile is fantastic, and always felt ‘just right’ to me. It’s not scrawny, but far from baseball bat territory, very comfy on the hands. Front to back, with digital calipers, it measures 0.825” at the 1st fret, and 0.905” at the 12th fret. I’d say it’s the nicest Precision neck I’ve ever played, and this includes USA models. The fretboard edges are nicely rounded and smooth. I know this isn’t always the case with Mexican Ps, but it genuinely feels as smooth and round as a USA neck to me. I’m actually quite sad to see it go generally, but especially for how nicely the neck plays. It has a Fender 75th anniversary logo on the back of the headstock, which is a nice touch. It’s strung with GHS Pressurewound M7200 (44-106) rollerwound ‘Alloy 52’ strings with plenty of life left in them. They are smooth and really sing. If you don’t want them, I can keep them & put some nickel rounds on instead, just let me know. Stock open gear tuners & bridge. Pickups have been upgraded to the excellent Fender Custom Shop CS62s. Box included. Wiring upgraded to USA specs via a Northwest Guitars Precision bass wiring kit: 250K CTS pots, 0.047uf orange drop capacitor & switchcraft jack. Great full range of tones compared to the stock pots. Knobs upgraded to Fender Tele / P chrome, knurled flat top knobs (099-13600-000) to fit the 1/4 inch pots, as the stock knobs were slippery & not very good. It has a non Fender 3-ply BWB pickguard. Please note I no longer have the stock pickups, wiring, knobs & pickguard, so these are not included in the sale. Feel free to check my Basschat feedback & PM me if you want to buy it or need more photos. It’s set up with a nice low to medium action & the truss rod turns as it should. It’s sold as seen and described, with the inspection tag but otherwise no paperwork or tools. Serial number shows 2021, I’ve run it through the Fender serial number lookup, and it shows as registered May 2021, see photos for spec sheet. I bought this bass in person from an eBay seller in January 2023, her son got it new & had barely played it as ended up with a different bass. They even kept the tag, which is included here. I paid £480 for this, and have spent £145 on upgrades (pickups 100, wiring loom, pots & knobs 45). It hasn’t been heavily gigged, so I think £575 is a fair price for a great condition P bass with top upgrades (& a free gig bag). I’d go as far as to say that this upgraded beast with a delightful neck and relatively light weight (for a Precision) is an outrageous bargain considering the price of a new American Pro 2 these days. I’ve owned this for a year and a half, which is quite something given the basses that have ‘passed through’ the last few years. Every time I tried anything (including dabbling in short scale), I always came back to this one. I’m a little sad to be selling it, as it’s easily as good as any USA P I’ve had, but my holy grail bass has finally come up, so I have no choice. If money wasn’t an issue (it is), I’d love to be keeping it. I’m certain that someone will be very happy with this bass. I have no box or packing materials, so am listing this as collection only from Southport. I work near St. Helens, so could meet up in that area too, or somewhere in the North West within reason. There is no hard case included in the sale, but I can hand it over in a basic padded gig bag, which from doing a lot of googling I think is a Traditional Strat / Tele bag, it fits fine, but has no straps even though there are clips for them, just carry handles, 8mm padding and a pocket. No timewasters please and absolutely no trade offers whatsoever. Hoping to sell this to an established Basschatter. Edit: Sorry must have missed this when posted the ad, think I caught this partially on one pic, but forgot to mention it, there is a 1cm scratch / scrape mark on the floor-facing edge of the lower horn, just added a final pic showing it. Not visible when playing unless you plan on playing it upside down!

  32. Like others, I cannot restrict it to just the one. What I found really useful was moving from fixed thumb to floating thumb (Tho I realise that many 4 string players use floating thumb), getting my head/fingers around practicing slightly revised patterns to play across the neck in any given position (rather than having to play up/down the neck) and leaving my 4 string alone. 34. Here's my Harley Benton JB75 NA Jazz Bass. I picked it up in march and I really love it. She's a heavy girl but I have a nice 3.5" Padded strap to distribute the weight. I've done a few upgrades to it since I've had it and I'm happy with where it is now. I just want to change the scratch guard for a B/W/B one and she will be finished. I've fitted Gotoh GB640 Reso-lite tuning heads, Dimarzio Area J's and a John East J-Tone preamp and Schaller style strap locks. I've also done the shielding, and grounding on it too. Strung with Dunlop Marcus Millers Stainless Steels.

  40. @EddieG - Thanks for sharing your experience. I’d noticed some of the Letts offerings on Reverb and they had piqued a little intrigue so I’m glad to have been steered clear. I empathise with your situation, I think most of us have experienced a fair share of loss, be it financial, relational etc. It’s not a nice feeling and we deal with it in different ways. Seems like you lost a positive experience of being built a custom instrument, where you should have been indulged and looked after as a valued customer. I hope you get some closure soon.

  41. This is all run off the mill stuff these days, can't see any need for negative feedback, courier was crap, seller having a bad day, buyer perhaps a little too anxious (not a criticism, we've all been there). I've had a couple of way way worse courier experiences recently, complete comedy crapness, both made a whole lot easier by the fact that both the people at the other end - BCers of course - were very calm and cool about everything 👍

  42. Man thing is that it arrived ..hurrah ! Being accused of fraud is outrageous , and the seller should have apologised if the seller did the accusing imho. Now here's the rub regarding feedback ;; I'd do nothing . If the seller leaves positive feedback , all he better. I'd still do nothing . It sounds like the seller won't bother leaving any anyway . They may do, up to them I guess. Thankfully , I've still got 100% all positive feedback . 🤞it stays that way . It can lead to anxious moments buying and selling , as we know . I've had no feedback left at times , but thought " fair enough , no harm done " as at least it wasn't neutral or negative. Sending vinyl lps/ 12"s used to leave me worrying at times , plus liaising with buyer if they have received a special delivery and hearing nothing a day or 2 later. They lead busier lives than mine I assume , and I do receive reassurance eventually . I'd say if no bad or neutral feedback is left , forget about it and move on . Only imho of course .

  44. Here we have 3 maple necks up for grabs: 1) Squier Sonic Precision bass Neck, completely new and unused as of yesterday - a nice jazz 38mm width. I only bought the Squier bass for the lighweight body and specific colour to go with a USA neck I already had but i was pleasantly shocked on what a great bass it was as stock and the neck is truly is stunning. I did monetarily think about keeping for another project but I should offer it out as i have far too many 'project' basses on the go. I also have the electrics, pickup from the Squier bass if anyone is interested - the pickups and tone range were actually pretty impressive? Anyhow £85 posted for the brand new neck. 2) Northwest Guitars Precision - has a Fender decal on, i have a spare decal if also wanted. Has Wilkinson tuners, heal truss which is fine - tuners are a little stiff but function fine - £85 Posted £) OLP Stingray Neck, a bit battered (relic 😂), but functions absolutely fine - i ended up preferring SUB sterling neck for a previous Ray project, previous owner fitted stingray decals £35 posted. Will knock £5 if collected in Plymouth:

  45. I haven't a clue who is playing (and deep in my heart, I really don't care), but decided to have a look at the bill. Christ on a bike. There appears to be hundreds, nay thousands, of artists playing. How on earth does one sort the wheat from the chaff? How does everyone get paid? I recognised maybe ten bands and gave up scrolling. My idea of Hell to be honest.

  47. For Sale is a Blackstone Mosfet Overdrive/Distortion pedal. Selling as I have multiples of this pedal, and don't currently require them all. This is my favorite overdrive pedal, and I pretty much run it always on for some light saturation and character, with the second (red) channel available for proper push and drive. Price is £199 including p&p - please contact for delivery further afield. Pickup in Belfast is also welcome. Fantastic, natural sounding overdrive, and super versatile despite simple controls. The design and general aesthetic of this pedal is wonderful, and the ability to have two channels in such a small form factor, as well as having settings be completely travel proof is an incredible achievement. This is Model 2SV3.1 - sonically identical to the most current model. https://blackstoneappliances.com/Blackstone-2SV3.1_manual.pdf Very tube-y and amp like in sound and feel, and plays incredibly well with others. No loss of low end, unless going to the II side of the Red Channel's gain control, though you can also easily remove a socketed capacitor inside the pedal to cancel the bass cut available on that control. Please Contact if you have any questions.
