NBD Very nice, early 90s MIJ, quality thing. Surprisingly light, ash, passive, really great tone via an old set of Roto flats. I spent an hour polishing the frets, not much else to do with it, cracking bass.

We've got a first festival gig coming uo for Bendricks Rock. 1hr spot. Bike weekend in support of blood bikes Wales, supposedly 100,000 over two days but I doubt our audience will be that big! Next day we close one of the local venues for Caerleon festy, pub marquee so much smaller. Played early last year (after the morris dancers) to 40 odd people in the rain.

Its annoying when we learn a new song we just add it to the set rather than drop one out and keeping the sets approx 1hr each. Both my bands suffer from this issue. In a few yrs i'll be doing 4hr sets if things don't change. I've always thought 2 off 1hr sets is ideal. It leaves an audience wanting more. Too long they get bored. Dave

We average 1hr 10-15mins first set and 1hr 20-25mins second set but its great when we get two 1hr sets. Think the most enjoyable was with the punk band where we were 2nd support band at a local rock venue with PA and backline supplied. By the time the 1st band got off stage and we got started our 30mins was down to 20 mins and we still got paid £200. I could cope with more 20min £200 gigs. Dave

100% this. A month ago a forum member here messaged me and offered me a bass at half the London vintage shop retail price. It was something I’ve wanted for several years and the price was only because I’m part of the BC family. If I chose to sell it on here I could ask whatever I wanted to, but morally, I’d feel duty bound to pass on the same deal to someone else. This would be 100% my choice. When I talk about the morality of selling, it’s this. People can act however they wish, but I reserve the right to judge them.

We strive to be balanced and fair in how we manage Basschat. Most of the time we get it right, very occasionally we don't. I think the ruling that we don't allow valuation threads is always going to appear contentious to a very small amount of users but this is offset by the fact that a small amount of the membership pay for running ads on a site that is run by volunteers & the valuation threads were being used as a sale opportunity by too many members in the past. We know this was not always the case but that's why the rule was put in. Most people accept it. Of course, we're not all the same. As per Kev's post, the "warning" literally opens with the line "this is not a warning as such" and carries no penalty points. It is never a reflection on someone's contribution to the wider BC community, just a response to that one post. I think we'd all agree that many people are generally just curious about value so it's why the message is worded in the way shared by Kev. We do what we can to promote the rules and the vast majority of all your posts / threads don't need any moderating. Most moderators put the rules in our signatures (sadly like many moderators, I spend more time on here moderating than I do posting). When you sign up, you agree to the rules (a long time ago for many of you!) and when you go on Marketplace the rules are there to be seen. We fully accept that BC rules are not always at the forefront of people's minds and that often small breaches are not intentional. We let this thread (& the previous one) run for a while. I think sufficient time has run on it for people to both comment and reply.

Been away for a few days, so not much progress on finishing. I have been testing out different sanding methods, orbital vs flat vs hand to try and work ouy which is easiest. One of the problems I had was holding some of the pieces, so as I was going away for a few days, I thought I'd load the printers up with work that would take a long time to print. Last year I saw a Fractal Vise (is it Vice or Vise?) on YouTube, well worth watching here It allowed various complex shapes to be held in a vice/vise. I was fascinated by the mechanism (yep I'm easily pleased), and looked at getting one, somebody was making a small version and wanted $150 as a down payment but no idea how much it would cost at the time, I wasn't that interested, so I filed it away in the back of what passes for my memory. Whilst I was trying to sand down the various curved bits of the guitar, I recalled this vice and wondered if anybody made one, the one in the US still doesn't seem to have got off the ground but I then found somebody had designed one for 3d printing https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4904044 I downloaed all the files, spread them across two printers and left them to run for 30+ hours and ended up with two sheets below All this is PLA+, it's in two different colours as thats almost the end of my PLA rolls under I get a new delivery, so I should be grateful it wasn't yellow and pink. I have all of the screws and the bearings, just waiting for a lead screw and some chome rods and I'll assemble that for the weekend and hopefully it'll hold the various parts of the headless bass somewhat better than my fingers. Looks fun. Very impressed with the design, some of the comments from the US are great, they have no idea what M3 screws are, and apparently they pay like a dollar for a screw, now they know how I feel buying a 1/4-20 screw for a astrophotography camera. I have also just found out that my niece now works for a bolt distribution company so I can get stuff from her. Xmas has come early. All of the female basschatters have no idea why this is so good My other half just tells her friends it's a blokes version of having shoes and handbags. Thanks Rob

For myself and my mostly rock material I play, the warmer 10’s seemed the logical choice compared to the 12’s I play a PBass with a pick so I don’t need any additional clarity but I need warmth and depth and a smooth tone. The 310 seems the logical one cab solution to have the power yet sensible on stage size and ease of transport.

For the neck joint I will have a single screw holding the heel against the body, then the fret board extension will act a long horizontal tenon, held by a single bolt through the body. Sounds complicated, but isn't. It worked really well on the last build, it's completely stable and seems to be plenty strong enough. I rout the mortise for the fretboard extension/tenon in one go. A simple MDF jig with a locating strip of wood that slots into the truss rod channel. This makes sure everything lines up, and makes clamping a lot easier. I've already drilled the hole for the wood screw through the heel and into the neck block. Again, the screw helps with keep everything aligned while I rout. Here's the jig: Routing: Once the tongue/fretboard extension has been glue and sanded flat, it looks like this: The fretboard then goes on top. I haven't glued it at this point, still a few jobs to do first......

Just to very quickly finish the neck joint description, I put a T nut onto the fretboard extension to hold it down. So a screw through the heel and bolt through the back. It's quite a lot to get all lined up and the neck pointing in the right direction. One of the biggest steps up from making electric to acoustics, is that with acoustics there's no flat surfaces. Everything is curved and nothing is in the same plane.

I was thinking that the new Ibanez Pentatone should go to one of my boards, and... I thought that I collect the fx I could find quickly to check if any board modification is in need. This looks like some cleaning is a must. (SWR Interstellar and tce 1140 are elsewhere. The MIDI volume pedal [Edison?] is somewhere else, too.)

I decided against The Wavy Hair (on the basis that I simply wanted to be able to see some whitish ebony, which shouldn't be sufficient justification for using it on a bass). I chose the Caramel River - enough figuring to be interesting, but not so much that it is a distraction. That said, any of them would have been acceptable, and if the wrong one turns up, I shan't be hugely fussed. I want to play it, not display it! The names are what I called them - I needed something descriptive to keep track of the options.

there's a million ways to get the right tone. Probably thousands of ways to get the same tone. I like what the BF 10 inch cabs do to my tone, but I also really like the DI from my Mark Bass head, just with a load of compression on it too. To my ears, Ashdowns and Ampegs need the cab to sound right to me. Mark Bass sound right to me without a cab at all. It's all good. I both want a Three10T and also want to not need it!

Just ordered the BF 310 cab instead !! I think the 10” speakers will suit my needs better and this format will be perfect as a single use cab

Holy sweet lord lifting Jesus. I picked up a lightly used Squier VI and have spent much more time goofing around on it than I ever expected. I found the stock strings lacking and put on the heavier set Fender make. I had to re-intonate , and file the nut. All good. It did become a little more expensive than I expected. First was a Fender TreVerb pedal , and then decided some gain might be useful. Than echo , chorus , and octaver … and then picked up a Gretsch baritone. Be careful.

Bass volume affects it. Generally on an amp, any preamp volume will affect it, but not master volume

In the process of being modded with a Sadowsky VTC onboard preamp to replace the broken stock Sire one. Hopefully get it all finished this weekend.

I also need warmth, depth and a smooth tone in my sound. That's why I use Aguilar amps, a Lull PJ5 and a Sadowsky Jazz. I get all the warmth etc from those guys and don't need any colouration from the cabs. I'm sure your 310 will sound great.

When I was promoting, bands used to do 2x45 + encores (if any). Big names (think Ben E King, Jimmy Ruffin, Desmond Dekker) used to do a contracted 60min, up to them if they went on past this - I think Jimmy Ruffin finished at about 2hrs!). 😎

Standard clubland this side of the border tends to be first set 45m followed by second 45m +15m. You'd be shot if you eat into bingo time lol

Not many of that size, although we do a few festivals through the summer that'd be playing to around 1000. I'd love to do more of them. The other guys would prefer 45 or 60 minutes. Most of our headline shows are 90 minutes or more. I personally love the short sets as it feels "full on" all the way through

I AB'd Jive with more expensive boutique pedals for that "on the verge of breakup" or "low gain" tone, but nothing sounded better than Jive to me. It's a keeper. That's with a P with flats and Stingray (3 band) with rounds.

That looks like my kind of event. Very nice photos. 30 minutes is really cool and easy to manage material. I've done a few 40 minute shows, I love them. I always get jealous when I see photos like this. Do you get to play a lot of these upscale type gigs? Daryl

I’m slightly embarrassed to say that I have been meaning to put my thoughts on a Monza in to words on these very pages, alas I have been weathering some persistent health obstacles.

Gig at a nice local pub for us at the weekend. A new venue that’s only just started up live music so wasnt sure what to expect. Lousy stage area so using the short scale Lionel was a bonus. Audience was initially a bit subdued but we eventually brought them around and had a cracking night. Vox still having issues with his Shure wireless set up (losing contact between set up and start of set…) which meant he had to do his audience participation shenanigans with a long lead….

In Isolation played The Arches in Coventry with Chaos Bleak on Saturday. I played there a about 10 years ago in my Terrortone days, but the venue has improved massively since then although it's still just as difficult to find. Both bands played to a small but very enthusiastic, and relatively young (for a "goth" gig) audience. Obligatory photos: Next gig for me is with Hurtsfall in Morecambe on the 8th June opening day two of BLAQKHOLESUN Next In Isolation gig is supporting The Rose Of Avalanche in Leicester on 28th July.

IMO BassBros help keep prices down. They’re one of the more down-to-earth retailers, I think. FWIW in the decades I’ve been on Basschat, I can’t remember a time when anyone ever said ‘Hey - have you noticed vintage bass prices are really reasonable at the moment?’
