Well. It’s been a while. 1993 Ken Smith Burner Arrived after a lengthy trip from Switzerland 😊 Had one before - really, really lovely.

Completed my board just before my birthday 😃 My chain: Elegee Custom Mini Bass > Peterson Strobostomp > Cali76 Compact Bass > Aguilar Octamizer > Guma Antique(Darkglass VMT Clone) > Aguilar Filter Twin > Aguilar Tone Hammer I just got the Guma Antique through this forum, and had the original enclosure changed with my graphic design printed, thanks to Scott from GojiraFX for helping me out. This is a special one as I found this dirt pedal to be a gem and it sounds so good!

My dad recently passed away leaving a collection of guitars and basses, including a travis bean which I believe to be a tb2000 with the serial number 222… it is in immaculate condition and would just like any info on it and a rough price check as from my research they vary quite alot. Funnily enough there is a post from 2017 in which someone talks about owning this one? Not looking to sell as the collection has sentimental value. Thanks in advance!

Played Cardiff Bootlegger last night. Really difficult access, then parking in the world's most cramped multi-storey car park. Load in long and many stairs. Then afterwards load out complicated by huge numbers of (good natured) revellers on the pedestrianised street and a packed dance floor as the disco took over. Staff were great, free drinks too. Audience was enthusiastic but modest for first set, filled up for second set, definitely into our sort of music which was good. We even had people who came because they saw us on YouTube 🙂 Oddly though I felt a bit meh, perhaps because the odd layout put me ahead of the PA. First time I've felt the audience enjoyed the gig more than me.

Good idea, I could sit with a plate of crumble and listen to the rumble......

Already done one gig today - a kid’s birthday party with my “rock band for kids”. It was great, and if I’m allowed to share any pics later on I will - short version is it was the kid of a relatively famous drummer so they are understandably nervous of too many pics getting out. Just learning songs for the second one, a pub/club gig in Eastbourne depping for our @Graham again 🤓 (There’s a last minute dep guitarist too, so the setlist has had a slight tweak and that means three songs I’ve never played 😎)

I think everyone knows the advantages, and sometimes disadvantages, of buying and selling on here, rather than from a shop. I'm glad you enjoy it, but unfortunately the marketplace is open to all and you've got to be quick off the mark to get what you want. If a shop does buy a bass and sell it for more elsewhere, there's not a lot we can do! Just don't hesitate next time

Chuck Rainey, Abe Laboriel, Anthony Jackson, Marcus Miller, Will Lee have all been mentioned in this thread already. That's not my top 5, that's just the bassists who played on Nightfly ! I'd have to find room for Nathan East, who to leave out? Tough call.

Haha, I had the same problem, so I left him out in favour of Neil Stubenhaus. Everyone knows about Nathan's work but, Neil's work goes under the radar a bit for some reason (Probably because he was mainly a true, studio session hermit at his peak). I couldn't find a thread about this shop so thought I'd just make people aware of it if they weren't already. I was having trouble finding a HX Stomp XL online, you can order them but most places are out of stock awaiting delivery 6-8 weeks. I managed to find one apparently in stock at a shop in Stevenage that I hadn't heard of before, Coda Music. I emailed first at the end of last week, they very quickly confirmed they had two units in stock. I decided to go up rather than order online, I wanted to take a look at the old skatepark at Bowes Lyon House, a place I skated many times in my youth, it was also a venue where I saw quite a few gigs too. Anyway, we aren't on SkateChat are we? So I called before I set off, just to double check I wasn't wasting a three hour round trip, again, two units in stock. The shop address is in the High Street but it appears to be quite an old part of the town, small interesting shops, you can park for free right on the High Street or in the surrounding streets, I parked about a minutes walk away. I strolled in just as heavy rain started. Two gentlemen of, shall we say, a certain age were behind the counter, no disinterested teenage minions chewing gum and texting rather than serving, no idiots playing Slayer's entire oeuvre at Wembley volume, in fact no music on at all, it was as quiet as a library, just the clicking of PC keys. I asked for the Stomp, stock was checked and one of the chaps said "It's in our store, I'll just go get it." I took the opportunity for a snoop around, it appeared at first to be a tiny shop but on walking through to the back it opened out and there was a whole other floor jam packed with an amazing array of guitars, interesting guitars too! I noticed there were no acoustics but they have another branch in Stevenage dedicated solely to acoustics! They had a rack of basses too, one or two interesting but mostly Fenders obviously. The Stomp arrived, payment was taken by the extremely helpful and polite staff who even put up with my foul language when they asked for my name/address/email shizzle, not their fault, it's usual practice these day. I left and then came straight back in as it was really tipping down, without me saying anything one of the chaps found me a large plastic bag to wrap up my purchase. All in all a good experience. It's a lovely shop, not at all like the chain music stores. I wish I'd had time for a longer look around, all the instruments looked interesting rather than just the usual stuff, even the Fenders looked enticing (I'm not a Fender man) particularly the dark blue metallic one at the front. Cool shop, nice staff, highly recommended.

Mostly because my earliest exposure to great music was watching TV as a little kid in the 70s, and of course learning years later that most of it was being pumped along by her Royal Funkiness, Ms. Kaye. It's the sellers choice to sell to who ever they want for any price they choose. If they are happy to sell something for £500, 99% don't care if a private individual pays £500 or if a shop pays £500. The seller can't be expected to refuse to sell to someone if they need/want the money. I understand your point of view, but if you want to buy something, and it's for sale at a good price, you've got to be quick off the mark! I've missed many a bass that I'd have wanted to buy because I saw the ad a bit late. At the end of the day, the seller can choose who to sell to and what price they sell at. We can't govern that.

I bought from them a few times in the 90s, before I moved to Scotland. They were always great. I once went there with the intention of trying an Epiphone Les Paul. They had just released a green one I really liked, so I called first to see if they had some. They had two. When I arrived they ushered me upstairs where I was left to do my thing with a couple of guitars and a very tasty Fender DeVille amplifier... It never mattered if you wanted something cheap or expensive. Glad to hear they're still good.

Better is entirely subjective, and will also be dependant upon what sort of a keyboard player you are a what sorts of sounds you want to get out of it. Even for pianos there are a lot of different actions available. Most serious keyboardists will have at least two keyboard controllers one with a piano-style weight and action and another lighter one for organ and synth sounds.

So I was visiting the thrift shop near my house, I do find some cool stuff there now and then (record player, NAD amplifier) and behold: there was a vintage Acoustic 118 combo there. A bit dusty, but it works perfectly, there was some dust in the pots as well but I had that out with a vacuum cleaner and some knob turning. It sounds absolutely killer! It has that typical Acoustic compressed solid state sound, very tight and an awesome combination with my fretless Jazz. It does remind a bit of Jaco's sound through his 360 amp Best of all: it was only 50 euros!

New Bass day! Always been a fan of spector, ever since I started playing. According to Facebook I got my first 9 years ago, a CR5FM it sounded fantastic,buy eventually moved it on as I found the weight and scale a bit much at the time. I regretted it ever since! After a bit of recent searching I have today received a Twin of my old Euro, a Euro 5LX-TW in natural. Much lighter than my old one and a shallower neck too. It has the Alder/walnut sandwich with a slightly quilted maple top, with the Tonepump circuit. It has these lovely EMG CS TW pickups, which means that are ceramic and Steel magnets, giving a warmer sound. They can be coil tapped to single coil with pull switches, although I've found they have a large drop in volume in single coil mode. Using these is cool in that with both pickups on, you can coil tap either pickup and it emphasises the other but sounds tighter than the pickups alone (for example the front pickup is boomy on its own, coil tapping the bridge sounds more like the front pickup, but tighter. The two split coils can be used for quieter mellower tones). Really pleased to have a new Euro and its a great counterpart to my Euro4 which is more aggressive. A picture came on Facebook today, posing with my CR5FM and my baby daughter Cora, so we decided to recreate it 🤣 my thanks to Mr Travis for putting the two together.
