  3. The basic carve of the body is almost done. Just got to take a bit of thickness off the back of the lower bout and then I'll move to the neck. I'll finish sand it all at the same time. From the view above, it looks pretty conventional. But this gives a hint that it's not quite... :

  4. Punter came up and handed me a slip of paper once, with a request on it. At the end of the song, I announced "We've had a request from one of you lovely people, it's for a song called...", I unfolded the paper and read, "...'youre crap, pack up and fk off'..." Nah, not really. But it's only a matter of time till it does happen.

  7. Manufactured in 1980 I've has this bass since 2001 and it was my main gigging bass until 2008 but I only use it at home now so it needs someone to look after it and use it regularly. It has loads of tonal options and an active/passive switch . It is strung with groundwound/halfround strings and there is a little wear of the fingerboard but given the age of the bass it is in good shape. There is one major ding on the body under the jack which was like that when I got it. This is not a light bass however and one of the reasons for sale is it is pretty heavy at just over 11lbs. I don't have a case for it so it would be best collected from North Somerset. Ian

  10. I'd suggest you are not driving the existing 4x10 sufficiently. Buying a better cab will not change anything if you are still using an inadequate head (I would imagine a Behringer amp taken from a combo will not have much power). Upgrade the amp and continue to borrow the Hartke for now would be my advice.

  12. We do abba, so that is why that doesn't cause a problem for us. One of the heavy songs, I use the full distortion for that one. We get that quite a bit. People get a bit annoyed with me - "Do you do any oasis", "Who?", "Oasis!", "Sorry mate, never heard of them", "Dont be stupid, you know - lateleeeey.. gonna be the one that saves meeeeee...", "Nah sorry, doesn't ring a bell". I really really detest oasis! On the other hand, one guy at the last gig was really insistant we should do Hazel O'Conner 'will you'. Doesn't strike me as a good song for a party / dancy band like us.

  14. Hi All, We've caught wind of this discussion and wanted to chime in a bit more "officially". First off, we're thrilled about the enthusiasm and the discussion here regarding our latest model, the N8. Keep it coming and we'll do our best to chime in as-needed. The response above is accurate. We wanted to provide a bit more context: Often times the recommended minimum impedance is stated for damping factor reasons, frequency response reasons, or as a precaution. Whatever the case may be for why Shure stated 9 ohms in its specs, the results of the tests we conducted show otherwise. We have tested the N8 with both the Shure P9RA and the Sennheiser G3 EK 300. Both body packs drive the iem well with no problems. The output impedance of both packs is on the lower side so they are able to provide MORE than enough juice should you choose. Neither of the packs presented any "cutting-out" or went into any over-current protection modes, etc... We were impressed, so we decided to try an artificial 4 ohm load as well. The results were the same. Both packs remained stable and were able to drive the 4 ohm load with no problem. The THD stayed low at an impressive 0.01% on the Sennheiser and 0.04% on the Shure. The voltage across the load was 1.9 on the Sennheiser and 1.55 on the Shure. Driving the N8 "as is" with either of those two body packs should not be a problem based on our tests. Also, we beta tested the N8s over the last few months with a number of people (including Nathan East himself) and there were no reports of any issues related to driving the iem with any of their amps, phones, body packs, and other devices. We're all ears so please keep the feedback and questions coming!

  15. Seen this a few times in the last couple of days. Fortunately, if you look closely, in the text of the fob-off the word "listing" is actually a link back to the original item. Still a frustrating pain in the ar$e though. I'm guessing there's a rationale behind this, not including an obvious link & making the actual link inconspicuous, but it's anyone's guess what it is. Just another step in the ongoing process of making Ebay hostile, awkward, unintuitive and irritating.

  23. If it's the same type of paint then it'll be fine, just very lightly key up the surface (2000 wet 'n' dry or a scotch pad) if dry and gloss over. If the coverage is acceptable you could just clear lacquer on top. I always prefer a coloured basecoat then lacquer to a colour topcoat. You get a better depth of finish.

  24. To be absolutely clear, this is not a true isolated PSU. The DC8 has 3 isolated sections: Output A and Output B are both isolated, and then outputs 1-6 count as the 3rd isolated section. So if you run a pedal off of A, one off B, and one from a single output out of the other 6, you have isolation. If you plug into more than one of the 6 "other" outputs (not A and B) they are not isolated from each other. The Vitoos ISO8 would be the closest thing to the Cioks DC8 which you're referring to. Not trying to imply that you're purposefully misleading anyone, but I got burned buying a DC8 on eBay that said the item was "fully isolated" and I can't return it because it matches the item in the photo.

  28. One of the best interfaces I’ve seen which combines presets with WYSIWYG is the Moog Little and Slim Phatty which has LED rings around the knobs which show where the current value is. Each of the four knobs has a few buttons which select which parameter is adjusted and the ring displays the value accordingly. Nord Lead 3 has a similar arrangement but it is one-knob-per-function.

  32. If you think that Bass guitar GAS is expensive wait until you get seriously into synthesis... For your first synth it doesn't really matter what you get so long as it has at least two oscillators, Filter, Amp, LFO and two envelope generators. Other than that it's heather you want to be able to play chords or not. Monophonic (one note at a time) will be cheaper, polyphonic will be more versatile. Once you've played with it for a while you'll start to learn what features are important to you and what you can't live without. If you really want to get to grips with synthesis buy something without patch memories, because it will force you into creating your own sounds rather than relying on the presets that are already in there.

  34. There's 3 options from Behringer... The P2 has an amp in it... the P1M hasn't. The P1M is literally a volume cut - so strictly speaking you need an amp in front of it... although you can run a set of IEMs straight from the Aux. (Ugh). The P1 has an amp in also - but has dual XLR inputs so allows for a balanced stereo input as opposed to the stereo unbalanced limitation of the P2. In reality - this doesn't mean that big a deal - it just means you will get less signal loss with the P1 than the P2. Will you notice for the length runs that you have? Probably not - in fact, I'm going to say no. I'm also guessing that the dual input summed to mono (and controlled via the L/R pan) will also give you a "more me" function if you were to split a signal from your pedal (landing) board to the beltpack. Actually, thinking about the size of your pedal board... you may want to rethink the amount of signal you are going to lose... that pedal board is just short of a kilometer now isn't it?

  35. Yes. It's bookmatched cocobola. Mica at Alembic calls it the great red spot bass and it was built as a custom. The LED pack was included in the build spec. Series Alembics generally have a 5 pin XLR for +-15volts and stereo output. You can use a 1/4 Jack which switches over to internal batteries, but life is short. The Alembic XLR leads are amazingly reliable so pretty much everyone uses them. My son does post here as JackPlug. he has a few other Alembics, with and without LEDs. His series 2 has blue side markers so I guess Josie wont like that either. She might like his Wolf which has no LEDs, no XLR and probably enough strings for Woodinblack. Each to their own.

  40. It's been something of a struggle getting all of the band in the same place at the same time in recent months, what with work, family, etc., etc., but we've finally managed to pin everyone down and restart regular rehearsals (woohoo!). The rehearsal room also has a recording studio, so we booked a recording session & finally laid down the 4 original songs we've been working on to "tape". The engineer sent us copies of the raw mixes of the songs, and I have to say that they sound seriously good, and should sound excellent after mixing. We're in next week to get a better vocal take, some guitar overdubs, depending on the time another bass take on 1 song, then start mixing. When that's done, it's a case of touting it around to get some gigs. Feeling very enthused about the band just now, big grins all round! :)

  42. once had a punter go up to the frontman to ask for a request during a song expecting his undivided attention whilst playing guitar & singing. The stock answer when getting daft requests was that we don’t do that song, but the next one contains some of the same notes.

  44. Annoyed but mostly rather happy and a little chuffed. I put the neck screws on, the bridge on, the nut on, some (old) strings on. Need to do the relief, still need to wire it. I am rather happy with it, it plays like a want (or will when the neck is adjusted). Annoyed because in the last days it has picked up some scratches, which I am not sure how I can correct. At the moment I will live with them. I am sure they won't be the last. So I took some pictures: This is what I wanted (except the lack of wiring currently!). 2 months ago it was 2 slabs of wood and a chinese neck on ebay and a bunch of parts in warehouses. If it wasn't for the fantastic community in here, it would still be those things. Thats everyone for the support and encouragement and I would like to reiterate the point that for anyone watching, I am completely inept at woodwork, if I can do this, you can do this too (and probably a lot better).

  47. oh boy, glad to see some Peavey luv on the 'chat, even for a little know gem like the Zodiac, and now that the honeymoon is over I'm delighted to report the lifetime bonding has begun even with a toothpick neck which completely disappears in my mitt at the nut. the BIG DEEP sound this baby lets out just from the bridge J is delicious when giving the amps a turn on the bass knob. then turn that knob back down and go for the P and fugetaboutit, it's everything I've been dreaming for when lusting after an EBO violin or a beefy Fender Tele w/neck 'bucker and capable of exactly the beefy wooly woof ala Felix and Bruce that I've been hoping for out of any bass I consider, yet without any negatives common to some of the famed boxy sized PUs. surprisingly, the swapped in EMG HZs are coming thru like champs far more than I'd expected, and that it's a smaller sized light bass adds to the positives as I try to stick with more comfortable basses these days. I watched this thing online for nearly half a year as the price kept dropping from almost $300 to what I needed it to be and the seller made it happen once we tossed the case and popped the neck off so UPS shipping totaled my price needs. I even had to send $300 cash, arggh, and then the second my $$ arrived the store owner went on !surprise! vacation... so imagine my tension, plus nobody would step up and simply box it and hand it to the driver. after decades of insanity I'm not one for patience in these deals yet it never fails that something crazy seriously delays the easiest of transactions from the seller's end, but it was worth the wait, the hair pulling, and some wall punching LOL. other than my preference for chunkier necks I couldn't be happier, even with the silly scratchplate screws standing out it eventually really appealed to me and doesn't look the same without them so some jeweled studs will take their place even tho I adore the look with the plate on, which was sent along. these Zodiacs really are off the radar and it seems the burst / maple board version gets the positive reviews over a majority of the color bodies with rosewood boards, very odd, so I'm glad after all the other ones I failed to secure it was my first and best choice that I ended up with. I've been lucky with inexpensive basses and this is the new crowning jewel which has definitely lessened the GAS for more basses. maybe some day they'll be discovered and even get some respect.

  48. Here are mine (past and present) These are two NS5CR's. The sunburst one is 98 I think and has a thicker neck profile than the natural one. Also sounds a little brighter. Both have 34" scale and the EMG's were replaced by Wizards. The preamps were replaced by a U-retro and a Noll 3 band parametric. The Wizards are much clearer and flatter overall, and I asked for a frequency hump right at the low end of the spectrum so I can get a nice fat B string. The pickups have coil splits which mean I can get a range of sounds including a very convincing Jaydee tone on the bridge coil! And I sold this Euro 6 last year Didn't sound as focussed as the NS5CR basses so I sold it although it was my main gigging bass for a while.
