For those of you with Amazon Prime - found this bass-fest (whilst searching for the Stanley Clarke bio-film which I don't think is on there.) So if you're into Andrew Gouche, Damien Erskine, MonoNeon, Janek Gwizdala and Hadrien Feraud it's worth a watch. It's pretty much unrelenting shredding over standards and gospel grooves. So cue peeling 32nd notes from super high-end basses - MTD & Fodera particularly. Stand outs for me were Hadrien who is freakishly nimble and articulate and MonoNeon for having a bit of personality.4 points

Can’t wait to hear what you have to say about this bass! I have to say I predict greatness too - if not from you then at least from the bass itself3 points

1967 Gibson EB-2 Bass in very good optical and technical condition (see pictures). The bass has the following, fully reversible mods/upgrades: * The original bridge has been replaced with a "Hipshot Supertone" bridge (better intonation, better definition and string height). The original bridge with the mute is included (see last photo). * The original push/pull tone switch has been replaced by a three-way toggle switch that allows, additionnally to the access to the two original tone circuits, a direct access to the motherbucker PU (details about this mod can be found by googling Gibson EB-2 Triple Bybass Modification) A push/pull switch (probably not original) is included. * The damaged original nut has been replaced by a new bone nut by a professionnel luthier. The bass comes in its original, battered Gibson case pics: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/mb4qiv5eyw4c7yg/AACa1H8Df1mbU_aojr3LzkBAa?dl=0 2700€, shipping incl. about me: Basschat: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/64788-feedback-for-gillento/ Talkbass: http://www.talkbass.com/feedback/gillento.63576/ ebay: http://feedback.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=gillento&ftab=AllFeedback" onlybass: http://forum.onlybass.com/index.php?/user/1617-gillento/ facebook: https://www.facebook.com/gillento2 points

Can't say enough about my Spector NS5 XL. Bought in 2000. Issue no.18. In that time I've had one pot changed. Had a Warwick Steamer before that. Heard they stole the design from Warwick and sought one out. Can't play anything else now.2 points

I'd expect them to sell the instrument. They set their rate and I agree to it or not and set the price accordingly. The rate itself is irrelevant. The commission, in many cases, includes VAT.2 points

Lovely story, enjoyed reading that so thank you for sharing. I think I have one of your old basses, a teal green 2eq Music Man Stingray with maple neck. Mega light for a Stingray and I named her Sinead 😊2 points

True. But sometimes one just have to take a leap of faith and risk it. If I don't like it, back it'll go, I'll lose postage costs but that's the only way to try one around here it seems. It's all because of this damn snow... it's given me far too much time to think about toys! In fact, if it weren't for the snow... instead of clicking "buy now" I'd have been driving to a gig! But it has been cancelled due to the weather. I'll call the bass "Snow". I should receive it on Tuesday... but I would not be surprised if there are still some delays as there must be a huge backlog with just about every courier.2 points

I had the strangest experience in GAK once. Went in for a wander, decided to buy some guitar strings on the way out, to be polite... Me: Hello, can I have a set of D'Addario nickel 11's please? GAK man: Have you tried these? (Ernie Balls) Me: Ah, yes, tried them many times but I prefer D'Addarios, so just those, cheers... (points to strings in question) GM: Have you considered these (gets a packet of Rotosounds and goes into a long and confused explanation about wrap material) Me: (eventually realising he's trying to push stainless) Er, no, I use nickels. Can I get the D'Addarios? GM: What guitar do you play? Me: (a bit exasperated now) Eh? They're for a Gibson ES330. GM: Ah, you don't want them. You want 10's. Always, always use 10's on a Gibson. Me: Seriously, mate... this guitar's had nickel 11's for 20 years. GM: (firmly) You should try the 10's. Me: Uhh... forget it. It was so, so bizarre. And a bit aggressive, and unfunny. I can only assume the assistants were having a bet or something amongst themselves. I hope he lost2 points

Up for sale is a Kiesel Vader Headless Bass 6 String. I bought this as a touring bass and back up to my Leduc 6 String Headless, but the difference in string Spacing and Scale length (19mm 35inch on the Leduc, 16.5mm 34inch on the Kiesel) is a bit too much for me to get used to. The Kiesel VB sounds really great, I was pleasantly surprised by the sound and quality of construction. Super low action and no deadspots on this one. It has an ebony fingerboard, three piece maple neck (gloss black finish), alder body, kiesel radiused humbuckers, black/white finish, diamond pearl inlays, vol, pan, tone. I am sure the looks are not for everyone, but the ergonomics of a headless bass are second to none (no neck dive, no shoulder pain etc). Its still in dead mint condition, like new, including a nice Kiesel Gigbag. Only thing I changed were the strings (it now has Fodera Nickels .120 - .028, i think its a great match). I am located in Germany but can ship throughout Europe. 950 Pounds or about 1050 Euros for this one. If you have any questions, just pm me.1 point

All pedals come down to taste and individual needs and playing styles so it will always be subjective. But the mojomojo was a massive disappointment. I have also had a TC dark matter and that was streets ahead of the mojomojo AND had the benefit of the TonePrint option (a massive omission on the mojomojo). I even sent mine back as I was unsure if there was an issue with it, there wasn’t. Even though it’s cheap I still think it represents a risk and would advise anyone to try one before parting with their money (or buying one second hand perhaps so they could sell on with little loss if needed). I am a great lover of Tc products (three of their pedals are on my board as we speak) so it’s certainly not an issue with TC, except possible profound disappointment. As any review is down to personal opinion, my comments must be seen as my opinion and nothing more, but my opinion is that the mojomojo is awful. And at the risk of going slightly off topic I have found that the valve preamp on my newly acquired Orange Terror 1000 gives the exact sound I have been looking for for ages. The BSF has now been cranked up to provide a more distorted sound to fit in with a couple of songs and made the big bass muff redundant saving space in the bargain.1 point

similarly here... I let a Mojo Mojo go, and got and loved a Soul Food for a while. It was pretty good with my Precision for low gain kind of sounds.1 point

Thanks for the tip with switch inside. Just tried it and the pop is gone. Got a power trio dep gig next weekend so will give the Soul Food another run out and see how it does.1 point

Beautiful Natural Amber finish on the Ash body with a black pickguard and a maple fingerboard that has abalone position markers. The bass has a great action and the neck feels great. The frets are in excellent condition. The pickups have a nice tone and the active electronics really let you dial in some great tones. Looks, plays and sounds great. The question is why do you want to switch? Do you need the extra strings or not? Would you miss them if they weren't there? IMO like there is no point in moving to a 5 or 6 string bass unless you need to. . . . there is no point in moving away from a 5 or 6 string bass if you're still using the extra strings. At the end of the day, unless someone else is paying you to play a particular instrument, play what is relevant to you and what you want to play. If you find it difficult to adapt your style to move back to a 4 string bass, just work at it. If it is an insurmountable problem just stick with what you're currently playing.1 point

For Sale is a 2013/14 SR5 HH in absolutely stunning condition. This is a great sounding and looking Ray 5, and if it weren't for the fact I have fallen back in love with Warwicks I would definitely be keeping it. It also comes with the case and candy and weighs in at around 9.5lbs, so a decent weight for a SR5. It is sporting an official Music Man tortoise shell pickguard. Will take more pics soon. Would entertain trades on Warwick 5's. It is strung with Elixirs and plays beautifully. I'm looking for £1,2001 point

They have recently started offering upgrades and customisations for the Kingston range. I was their first customer and 2 x sets of soft touch knobs are in the post. I have already upgraded the pickups and preamp and am considering a new bridge. For a left hander they are the ultimate project bass.1 point

Trigger was pulled indeed. I had some good (financial) news from work this morning and I decided it was a sign Greatness? If it's me playing it I very much doubt greatness is the word with which to describe the results... but I'll do what I can I'll report back when it's in my hands.1 point

Might be. Overwater are a very good company making an excellent product. I don't know anything about the Tanglewood's though.1 point

I'd buy the MTD, because I've seen good players playing them, they sound very good and, like Roger Sadowsky, Mike Tobias isn't the kind of guy to put his name on anything that isn't top quality, even his budget line basses.1 point

Yea, she may have a point but that's best kept to a band 4 way. Though if you'd like to share the link I have popcorn and am settled in for the night1 point

I'm still not getting the conflict people seem to imagine between bass and uke. Why not both? Why not the same instrument, even?1 point

My bass life wound down ten tears ago... now it seems to be winding itself up again. I had a load of bass books I sold... why did I do that? I also sold a Tascam bass trainer... now I'm thinking of buying another one, but at least I think the latest version will be better than the CD based version I had. I saw a short scale Squier Jaguar bass in a local shop a few weeks ago and couldn't resist for the price. I was going to sell my US Jazz, but the jag has revitalised my interest so I've decided It would be mad to sell. The question is... would I gig again. Don't like occasional gigs as I think you never get good enough... but too many gigs and it could get tedious again. But I've had a long break and could quite fancy an old farts band. Anyway, back to bedroom noodling for now... never say never.1 point

If he's handy with a soldering iron, Ampmaker's P1800 is an excellent choice. 18W point to point valve amp, nails the Marshall/WEM sound and is plenty loud enough for any gig. And you can built it into any cabinet you like and maintain the look/style that suits you.1 point

Although we’re not allowed to host Rickenbacker sales on Basschat due to John Hall being a (omitted for legal reasons), I can’t say I’m unhappy to see fake ricks being sold elsewhere. Scam or not!1 point

Not being a believer in tone woodsl I went for Ash because I like the grain. Although if your'e going for a solid colour I'd probably go with whichever is lightest.1 point

I don't think there are many amps that will sound poor through a VanderKley cab. My LMIII sounds fabulous through my two 112ext cabs. No urge to look for anything else (other than another bass maybe)1 point
