Nah, it's just a pathetic cliched insult thrown around by (usually) right wing pseudo-macho keyboard warrior types in a fit of pique at their inability to deal with the rapidly changing modern world, which they perceive as threatening their way of life, their fragile little egos, and ultimately their complete lack of self worth. It probably gives them a little frisson of excitement when the say it, they may even become mildly aroused and as they verbally lay into someone they perceive as being less tough than them, in the same way they probably enjoyed pulling the wings off flies when they were an unhappy child. That's the problem I have with it.6 points

When people say tried and tested Stingray do they mean the slab three-bolt, the contiured four-bolt, the contoured six-bolt 2eq, the contoured six-bolt 3eq or the slab six-bolt 2eq? The Stingray has been continually improved since it was released, not one of them has been a let down. These are smart refinements by a company who don’t usually get it wrong, why such groundless negativity when none of us have even played one yet? Silly.4 points

It's been suggested that we get the site's profanity filter amended to turn the hackneyed and frankly boring 'snowflake' into something more innocuous and daft. I think it's a great idea, because quite frankly I am sick of the sight of that bloody word.3 points

I have a Line 6 Sonic Port, and have managed to get the latency down so it’s not an issue (and I’m sensitive to it like you). Most audio apps have latency settings in the menus but they usually adjust have fairly generic descriptions like high, medium and low. I discovered a trick however where you can drop it as low as 64 samples (1.5ms at 44.1kHz) if you run Audiobus with your chosen app inside it! You adjust the latency within Audiobus then everything gets locked to that setting. The Zoom is much less faffing about though, but the iOS route is worth considering if you hadn’t thought of it before, especially since you’ll be able to record with it.2 points

Oddly enough all the people I know who use the term (and by extension go on long protracted rants about soft lefties and how we need to take our country back etc.) are usually overweight middle aged blokes who couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag and would be blowing out of their @rse running up a flight of stairs. Maybe the hyper-macho posturing is compensating for something?2 points

People who use the term "snowflake" probably also say "Twenty four seven" (5 syllables) instead of "All the time" (3) and refer to inanimate objects as "bad boys".2 points

I went to see Public Service Broadcasting last year and they do a thing before the show starts; they played a pre-recorded thing saying 'a few photos is fine, but no one really wants to watch your blurry, distorted camera phone footage.' This met with a huge cheer. It was almost as if that statement simply ridiculed the proposed usage...I saw one or two people taking stills, but that was about it.2 points

Please feel free to delete this but it's good information from years of trading: There must be quite a few sales lost on here because people are unwilling or unable to ship. First I'll address packing a bass, if you don't have a suitable box then go to your local bike shop and ask them for a bike transport box. These things are used to ship expensive bikes from the Far East and are really tough as people who've bought from me will testify. They need cutting down to about half of their height and yes it's a bit of a mess on but if it gets you a sale? You'll also need brown packing tape, a sharp stanley type knife and newspaper to scrunch up around the bass. This is very effective. If your bass is in a hardcase then you can even just cut some smaller boxes up and wrap the case up in them. Couriers: When a seller says "you can arrange your own courier" they don't seem to realise that you have to pay twice to do it that way. Once for the trip to collect it and once for the delivery so twice the cost to the buyer. This is just being lazy imo, all you need to do is fill a form in on Interparcel's site, pay with a card and prices with UPS start at £6.99 + vat!! Very cheap. What I'm saying to sellers is, put yourself out a bit and show willing, yes it's a bit of a hassle but if you get a sale so what? feel free to shoot me down in flames. Or pin this. Have a great day! Up for sale is my stunning 1988* Warwick Streamer Stage 1. Hand made in Germany. Now includes a hard case for safer shipping and price dropped to £850. shipping is £12.50 to mainland UK, £35 to most of EU, £55 to most of the rest of the world. Includes full insurance and tracking. There is no serial number on this so it is impossible to age it precisely but talking to various people on here who are very knowledgeable on all things Warwick it could have been made as early as '86 and as as late as 88' so ive gone for the 88' to be safe - also, from what I saw of the bass when it was being stripped, the woods looked identical to those on this '88 Streamer Stage 1( making it maple body with a wenge/maple neck): https://reverb.com/uk/item/2569081-rare-vintage-warwick-streamer-stage-1-1988-aguilar-on-board-preamp-emg-p-j Professionally refinished in a stunning gloss white by local luthier who also repaired the minor neck crack(which is a typical bug bear of these older pre-volute Warwicks from what I know - see the reverb ad above - the crack is almost identical!). This bass is all original except for the battery box which is a replacement from Warwick, the output jack, the pre-amp and pots (which are almost brand new MECs from a Warwick Fortress (the pre is a 2 band act/pass, bass, treb afair)). The frets were leveled and crowned by the same local luthier as well and it has received a full setup and new d'addario strings. The frets are down to about 50% from what I can see - see photos. Truss rod and electronics work perfectly! Neck profile and relief/action details (as best I can measure): Width @ nut 40mm Width @ 12th Fret 55mm Width @ 24th Fret 62mm Depth(front to back measured from fretboard) @ nut 23mm Depth @ 12 fret 23mm Depth @ 19th fret (before it joins the body) 27mm Relief(meaured at 7th fret with string fretted @ 1st and @ 20th frets) : 0.15" / 0.381mm Action @ 24th Fret 2.5mm - 1.75mm E - G Specs to the best of my knowledge: Maple body, wenge/maple neck, 24 bell brass frets, Mother Of Pearl dots front and side, brass Just a Nut I, solid brass Warwick 3D bridge, Schaller machine heads, Schaller straplock buttons, Warwick/MEC 2 band(bass and treble) EQ with active/passive with push pull volume. Weight is a very comfortable 4kg according to the kitchen scales though I swear it feels much lighter. The brass hardware including the screws, knobs, bridge nut etc. were all a heavily tarnished gold finish when I first got the bass so I shot blasted to reveal what i think is a pretty cool nickel looking colour. Paint finish is rather nice with only some minor blemishes on the front of the headstock that you can only see on very close inspection and the repaired neck crack is still visible under the paint as shown in the photos. The only other blemishes are the scratches on the cavity cover and the original varnish on the side of the fretboard is peeling away in some places but this cannot be felt underhand. I'm based nr Dudley, West Midlands Now includes a used but perfectly functional hardcase for safe shipping within the UK. If you need it shipping internationally I can add a brand new flight case at cost(£65) for safe international shipping.1 point

Hi All, I have decided that at some point in the next few years, I will own a Wal. I don't know 100% which MK yet, but I was wondering, do they make the neck to dimensions you can specify? Or do they have a standard neck size, and then anything different would be an 'extra'? I'm specifically talking about nut width if that helps!1 point

Not strictly guitar related but.....I thought a moment of sly genius was worth sharing.... a few weeks ago I noticed I had an insane amount of wood stored in the shed, noticing I had basses and guitars strewn in every corner of the house I decided to try and make some racks on a budget. fast forward some planning, cutting, drilling I have three racks in which to hold most of my guitars. the kids kept pulling them out so I had to think of something to keep them "locked" into the racks moment of genius incoming, I had some spare straps and strap locks, so I decided to screw the buttons into the rack and use the strap as a lock, ok maybe not THAT genius but for me, it was a good idea so for any budding guitar rack makers, this works very well on a budget if you have a couple of spare strap locks The racks still need a lick of paint and finishing but here's the idea1 point

+1 for the Thumpinator. Having read thread after thread from the legendary Dynamic Cab Duo Phil & Stevie I became more aware of the theory behind the effectiveness of HPF. At the time I was using Fender Rumble 500 head into one or two Basschat mk1 cabs. The HPF Thumpinator had a marked impact on the performance of my rig, tightening and cleaning up the bottom end without any loss of low end bass. If your amp does not have an HPF on board the I would recommend using /getting one.1 point

Hi Lewis. As far as I am aware it's normally a fixed dimension. As an extra customization, it might be possible to get those altered, you'd have to inquire I think.1 point

I have a Thumpinator. I can't say I can tell any difference in tone apart from less cone movement but it makes me less afraid to crank my amp up! You already mentioned the amp aspect but worth noting that plenty of amps such as Genz Benz already feature a fixed HPF so a separate one would be unnecessary. If you typically push your amp/cab to its limits to get enough volume then you may find one beneficial. Plus it gives you an excuse to get a pedal board and find more pedals to connect to that power supply!1 point

Here's how I've used the filter with a bass. Delay into particle reverb into filter. A wise move. Depends how you want to use octave/pitch effects. I find Helix pitch effects a bit glitchy. They are not polyphonic either if that's what you want. I have Micro POG and Pitch Fork in send/return loops and they work very well with it.1 point

The new colours are great - I will certainly be ordering one if not two. I've been out with my Classic Stingray tonight in the house band at a jam session and wonderful it sounded too - but an HH 3 band it ain't, and as a result hasn't got the sound flexibility I like on some gigs. Timely comment about Mr McFly and his LEDs, part of the family Sims sang backing vocals whilst I was playing tonight - and good they were too - apparently Mr Sims was otherwise engaged at some music show or other.1 point

One of my few highly developed skills is spitting. I have become adept at landing hefty oysters of gob on screens rudely jutted into the offing between me and an artist I am trying to watch. It is hilarious because their initial reaction is to drop the now contaminated device but then this odd dance ensues passing the device from hand to hand trying to wave my noxious ejecta away.1 point

Yes as far as I am aware - I looked into this in some depth a while back, and IOS restricts the outgoing current to a very low level to prolong battery life, as far as I'm aware it isn't possible to hack this limit (and probably not that smart even if it was possible due to the flimsy nature of the lightning port and low power output of standard ipad chargers).1 point

Regardless of whether the band (or other artist) mind or not, standing at the front of an audience with your iPhone or iPad switched on and held in the way of everybody else's view is an incredibly selfish thing to do.1 point

What makes you think I'm a snowflake, any posts in particular you'd like to quote or is it just something you (incorrectly) assumed? Have a little look through my posts on the thread eh? "Back in the day" people didn't bother about a lot of things - our nation did disgusting things in the name of colonialism, we didn't let women vote, our police force openly ignored racist violence because they themselves were influenced by institutionalised racism - these were all seen as normal. Things change, some things which middle aged white guys used to get away with at the expense of others are no longer acceptable, it's just something you're going to have to deal with. The good old days were only good for a certain demographic, no point romanticising over that. Where did I overreact again? You've quoted me twice now and still can't seem to articulate a specific point and resort to incorrect assumptions and generalisations. Why not have another go, third time lucky eh?1 point

Unless you particularly need it to be passive, I'd be tempted to spend a tenner more and get a Micro DI from Orchid -- http://www.orchid-electronics.co.uk/micro.htm -- active, more robust connectors and case, and fewer switches to go wrong.1 point
