  1. We’ve never had a single issue in over 10 years. There will be no policy change. Thank you for playing ped

  2. Perhaps the Christmas break has impaired your recollection of events during the course of this year. For indeed, you have form for jumping into sales threads to point out logo transgressions: Prior to the 'triggering' incident of a week or two ago, you commented in a sales thread in October: Ped replied to you saying: On June 18th you replied to an ad for a bitsa Jazz saying: Then on Jan 17th you expatiated in a more general sense on logos: THAT! There are so many fake/counterfeit "Fender"s around, selling with a "Fender" logo is dishonest, just waiting for some poor mug to buy one thinking they've got the real thing. (I also think Fender have muddied the waters a bit by branding Squiers as "Squier by Fender", so that people can advertise them as Fenders. Funnily enough, only three days before you had described taking delivery of a Rickenfaker with a fake Ric logo. Fair play for removing it as you did. But surely in buying it you were party to a transaction where intellectual copyright was infringed. So basically, you want to stop people selling basses with fake logos but it's OK for you to buy one? I put it to you that your unhappiness with fake logos in sales ads is nothing new. You have repeatedly broken forum rules by posting in sales threads where you should have PM'd. You have already had a discussion about fake logos with one of the forum's owners who has made his position clear. I suggest that far from being a spontaneous expression of concern you started this thread in an attempt to change forum policy. You want to stop people selling items with fake logos but you're happy to buy them. Shall I go on?

  3. We seem to be arriving at a situation which creates additional work for the unpaid volunteer mods because of a single member with an agenda. Fantastic start to the year.

  4. Just ordered a job lot of 1000 fake Fender decals ... money well spent.

  5. I think that banning the selling of "fakes" would actually aggrevate the issue. Instead of being forthcoming and saying it's a fake they'll try to hide that it's a fake and hope it will slip under the radar

  6. Well, it arrived a couple of hours ago. It is a thing of beauty...neck profile is great (I have no idea of the radius), very shallow/flat. It was set up pretty much how I like it straight out of the case, nice low action, a bit rattly but not unplayable. It sounds fantastic, but my fantastic would be another person's meh I suppose; I had about fifteen minutes at volume while the wife was out, but then work intervened. I've done a side-by-side with the JAXT4 for comparison. Just as an aside, I love the knobs on the new one, I'm going to hit up Lull for a set of three for the JAX. More later.

  7. RE: The Limelight sale thread that's being referred to as an example. Yes, it has a Fender logo. I understand the point being made regarding that. But, AFAICS the listing advertised it as a Limelight. The problem was that the buyer did not understand what Limelight did. The buyer incorrectly believed that Limelight took factory produced Fenders and reliced / pimped them and then re-sold them. That is very clearly the buyer's own fault, surely? The seller has not attempted to deceive potential buyers, and Basschat has no responsibility to educate them about Limelight's business model either..

  8. How am I supposed to look at my fretting hand and a music stand at the same time?

  9. ........... however, things change. Some time ago I bought a Chennell Arco Bass. It was proper lush, but in the BC way, it moved on and then something else came, and then that moved on. You know how it is. However, the build quality and aesthetics were something to behold and I thought of it often and fondly. I had also been thinking of commissioning a very small EUB with Uke Bass strings on it. But I had put all that behind me. And then I saw this I fought it for a bit, but as we all know, resistance is futile. Toby is making me a 5 string one with a curved fingerboard for a very small Double Bass vibe. It will have an Fdeck preamp mounted under the fingerboard. Nice and discreet, like. Toby does lovely things with lovely wood. I am excited.

  11. Yes! Yes, he did! Mind you, he's modded that Tele so much it prolly no longer qualifies as a Fender even though it's got a Fender logo on the headstock. Nee-Ner-Nee-Ner-Nee-Ner! Logo Police Assemble!

  12. IIRC, the question was asked only after you'd already jumped into a for sale ad here to express your view about logos. Moreover, Karl alleges you recently piled into his FB ad. Look, it's OK if you want be a logo vigilante. Do what you like; no one can stop you. But with respect I don't think this thread was started from a neutral viewpoint and as a disinterested solicitation of opinion. I do think that it will end up making more work for the mods and for microscopic practical gain.

  14. This. As a full-time dep, like someone said on here, I just ask what the dress code is. Turn up, get the set on the night and read. So having a micstand/ipad holder for me is essential.

  15. Findus, obviously. I hope Dan isn't thinking of selling that bass, as someone might buy it thinking it's a crispy pancake.

  16. Bought here on BC in May but I have decided to keep my Laklands only so this one has to go... Let me quote the original post by the previous owner: " For sale is my 2010 USA Fender Jazz 5 string, fitted with a John East preamp. The original passive plate and pots are also included, along with the tags, original strap buttons, allen keys, truss rod tool etc., plus an alternative white scratch plate, all in its Fender fitted case. In good condition, just some minor marks on the back and a chip on the lower body edge shown in the photos. The neck is completely unmarked. It did have a couple of rough frets though, so to prepare it for sale it's just had a full PLEK and setup at Charlie Chandlers in Hampton. It plays beautifully and sounds fantastic, but it's not being used because I just prefer my Laklands, so it has to go." Please contact me if you have any questions! Thanks Joni

  17. Hi all, For sale is my excellent 3 band EQ Music Man Stingray HS bass with great sounding MM humbucker but also a single coil jazz pickup and 5 way selector switch. This set up gives the player lots of great versatile tones and also the opportunity to blend the tone of the MM humbucker with the jazz single coil- which sounds beefy! I bought this new in 2008, as it has been well maintained and looked after during that time it is in very good condition. This bass is awesome and a rock-solid performer so I will be sorry to sell it but needs must, as they say. A recent browse through the Ernie Ball Music Man website indicates that the HS Stingrays don't seems to be being made any longer so also a rare instrument. The photos don't do the beautiful ash body justice and everything else about the bass lives up to the level of build quality and performance that you would expect from a Stingray bass. Also included is a Music Man hard case which due to the fact that I have used a gig bag, has never been properly used so is in as-new condition. I am based in Brighton and would very strongly prefer the buyer to try out the bass in person and collect but I could be open to a meet up within the South East within a reasonable distance. Sorry no trades please as I need the money and space in my flat. Christmas will soon be here so treat yourself!! 20. Nort sure if I'm missing a profile setting or something but the vast majority of marketplace sellers do not appear to have their location visible - is it just me or the same for everyone? Would it be worth considering making it a prerequisite of using the marketplace that you state where you are? I mean, there's quite a few adds on there that state 'collection preferred' - from where !?

  21. Yeah I have a very punchy/gainy sound, which all comes from my Para Driver, but I`ve experimented with the amp to see if I can get that in case the Para Driver fails etc. I can get there pretty much with Bass at about 9pm/10pm, either of the low-mid sliders dropped a bit - I usually drop the right hand side one - regular mids at noon, then on the upper-mid sliders boost a fair bit on the right hand side one, plus up the left hand side one a bit. Treble, well add a bit but I find on a P-bass it doesn`t seem to do much. To get my gain I just bump the drive to suit, and I keep the compression and sub-harmonics completely off. Adding in the pre-shape - which for some reason is out on the control-knob, not in, can work nicely as well depending on what cab is being used. ABM cabs are pretty scooped anyway so I don`t use it, but if I`m connected to a honky/middy cab then selecting that removes that honk nicely. I do this on both my amps, I`ve the ABM600 & 1000. It all works better on the 600, the eq seems more flexible on that one, and alterations seem to yield better results, but the 1000, which is based on the 500s eq gets there too.

  23. If anyone would shove his old chap through a pre-drilled hole in his guitar the better that a groupie might perform fellatio upon him it would probably be Mr Francis Rossi. Quite ingenious, when you think about it: "...and here, just behind the bridge, is the pink wang bar. Give it a go..."

  24. Schecter make some lovely looking gear, these look great! The ones I’ve tinkered with in places like PMT have always felt really well finished with quality hardware, though I’ve never played one plugged in. Wouldn’t mind a bash on one of these.

  29. Well you could buy a Fender and upgrade/downgrade everything but the neck and be in the clear and thats not misleading or build a licensed top class bass with a transfer and be a conman The P AND J Basses are imitated beyond belief in hundreds of forms.People probably see me and my Sadowsky and think shame he couldnt afford a Fender. As long as people are honest i don't see a problem. At the price range we are talking ,how it plays will be more important I Put an all parts 70s neck on my fretless Jazz and its superb, the logo finishes it off

  32. I will quote you on this and highlight the pertinent bits The issue is gain or loss , if their is an abscence of "a view to gain for himself or another, or with intent to cause loss to another" might this seem as definitive as you claim? To be honest this community is pretty hot on things like this , and as far as Fender are concerned they are probably quite happy to see there brand being promoted everywhere and as long as this site is clear as to what is being sold and that there is no-one with "a view to gain for himself or another, or with intent to cause loss to another" in the process I think it seems quite clear. I base this analysis on the above quote as it is your argument , not as a point of law , though it may still apply

  37. Pragmatically, I think it would be good if any fake-logo'd bass sold here was *very* clearly labelled as such. The fact one member has bought a Limelight assuming it wasn't a copy does demonstrate that it is a potential issue.

  39. I didn't say that a Limelight would be worth more than a genuine Fender; I said that a Limelight presented as itself would be worth more than an illegal fake "Fender".

  40. So here is my 71 Jazz bass refinished in candy Apple red I got from a fellow basschatter a couple of months ago. She had a reissue pickguard on when I got her which I replaced with a genuine 69 tort pickguardwhich I got from Axel in Germany, and the soldering was quite shoddy which I’ve redone, I’ve also shielded all the cavities so she is now as quiet as a mouse. String with Rotosound 77 Jazz flats this is my main gigging bass, she is the “bomb”.

  43. First practice last night. Set the eq up as Orange suggests on it's website for Rock/Punk, turned the compressor up to 12 o'clock, plugged all my pedals in and turned it up to what would roughly 2. This is by far the loudest amp I have ever owned, it's mental. I should of bought the 300 watt (never going happen lol). I didn't get chance to fiddle with the eq and didn't need to tweak any of the controls on my bass... now that is a real first. Bite, punch, clarity... It just works, to the point where I wasn't thinking about my sound. Last amp that did that was my Trace Elliot 1225v back in the early nineties. If you get the chance try one. I'm very impressed.

  45. I've only been through a few but have settled on my Aria Pro II (SB), 1980's MIJ. The playability and tone are both superb. Come to think of it, my only problem with it is that it's sunburnt, but pah, who needs aesthetics. Overall, I don't think I could find a better bass for general use, even at a much higher price.
