  2. Thanks to @foxyFuze for selling me his unbelievable amp and for @wateroftyne for letting me play through his at the impromptu Bass Bash last week. Through the Barefaced 610 it is outstanding. Little unknown brand from Poland, won’t be long before everyone catches on! Does this mean the end of my 751 🤷‍♂️ It’s that good!!

  6. My bass is that little bit nearer to being back in my possession, thanks to Merton 😊. Love this forum and the kindness of its members. Here is a photo of the pickup

  7. Hi! I made another one with more pickup and tone settings, plus pick and slap at the end. I got several requests for quicker bouncing back and forth between the two, and also lowered the backing drum track.

  8. Just snaffled this 48 y/o beauty. Weighs just over 7 pounds, which is fabulous for my back/shoulders. Just need to sell a couple of basses to pay for it now!

  11. Not having any background in psychology, nor having read enough Freud that I feel compelled to ascribe all thoughts, dreams, and other subconscious brain activity to an inherent desire to have it off with one's own mother, I'm afraid I can't offer an explanation for your dreams. I can, however, reassure you that you are not alone. I have had similar dreams in which my instruments bends, folds, or shrinks to the size of a ukulele. In one case, I was on stage trying to play a borrowed bass on which the strings resembled those coiled, springy, rubber keychains that were briefly popular in the mid-to-late nineties. In another, I left other band members to pack the gear while I went ahead to set up the venue, had to berate them for forgetting to pack my amp, and found myself trying to amplify my bass using the "paper cup telephone" method and running a taut string from the body of the bass to a floor tom. I'm sure there are others; in some respects I'm quite grateful that I forget the majority of my dreams...

  12. Basses and bass kit fall into the exceptional need category. This category of purchases is deemed essential to life function, happiness, stardom, sexual prowess, fame, playing ability, tone (underline all applicable)..

  13. Painted the grille today. Not sure I like it as much as the grey primer but will do a temporary fix of the badge tomorrow to see if it looks OK. Sorry about the picture quality as it is gig-ready. However it does give you a general idea of what it looks like. The paint is https://www.toolstation.com/industrial-spray-paint-500ml/p80525

  14. I've just returned to using flats again after a few years with rounds. At the moment I only have them on my Precision but have a set ready to go onto my Jazz as well. I use Chromes and always make my own custom set which are 45, 60, 80, 110 as I like a slightly heavier E so that I can drop it to D. After 5 or 6 gigs I have come to the conclusion that my Precision sounds garbage on it's own and not even close to how I would normally have it but in the mix it is absolutely perfect. The pops in We Are Family come alive with these strings and the tone is even all over the fretboard.

  17. That's a frustrating thought. How will you avoid the compulsion to carve the Christmas turkey into the shape of a bass guitar?

  24. Beats me why Fender don't do this as a matter of course. It makes SUCH a difference to the upper fret access, whether a Rascal bass or a Stratocaster electric. It's not even that they can claim it affects the performance - they do fit a similar plate on some limited models. Anyway, we've got it here now : The Fender plates are hard to come by, so this is one from Northwest Guitars - nice quality. Holes were a teeny bit out, though, so I drilled out and plugged all three and started again. I will carve the neck heel to match. And, talking of the neck, that's already gone from Eden to Los Angeles and Los Angeles to New York and New York to UK and has just landed at Heathrow! If the UK mail gets fully into gear, hopefully it should be with me by the New Year

  33. Up for sale is my Mid 2000’s Musicman Stingray 5 HS in teal green. A few marks as per the age and use it’s had but plays and sounds great. Truss rod tested and working, currently set up with a nice low action. Original case not included but it comes with a Warwick semi hard case that’s tatty but serviceable. Simply selling because I’m tiring of the stingray sound and have to abide by the one in one out bass rule so I don’t become overrun. Test drives welcome, postage within uk not a problem. Message for more info/pics/sounds and such.

  35. It's arrived. Yes, the logo looks like a male bird plus spherical play object, it only makes me like it more. I've only given it a 10 minute run out as my neighbours were kind enough to receive it after DPD wouldn't send it to one of their designated drop off points. Its a semi detached so trying to find the point the cab farts out on a low b seems a bit ungrateful. First thoughts though. I wanted a cab that would be small and light for rehearsals and pit work. My long serving Aggie db112s have a surprisingly large footprint and some of the spaces pit musicians have to play in can be very tight. This will be perfect, it must be one of the cabs where a mark size head is in danger of overhang. It's stupidly light and opening doors etc whilst laden with kit should be much easier. Tonally, I wasn't expecting it to challenge the Aggies and it won't, they'll be staying in the meantime for function band work and festivals. It can make the ceiling shake easy enough, more like decent low low mids than full fat bass but I DI for most theatres and the foh will do the heavy lifting. Flats on the lb100 needed a bit eq experimentation, I suspect that's my ears needing to adjust. The cab seems more suited to the sire v7, which is good news as that's what I'll be using 90% of the time. I'll have a better idea of the cabs capabilities after next week, I've a show for a week, where it'll be up against the most leaden drummer so a decent run out for its first test. Harry

  38. Yes i'm reaching the age of needing a belly contour too - maybe i should follow your example ha ha. It looks stunning in that blue with competition stripes I get a lot of interest taking my (plain white) Mustang to gigs - mainly from other band members who start off going: "What's that little thing?" and a few songs in go: "Wow that bass sounds great!" Gotta love a Mustang.

  39. Anyone tells you the Zoom isn't good enough for gigging is fully entitled to that opinion. However, you should suck it and see for yourself before making your mind up. I've gigged all manner of effects which I've been relieably informed are 'toys' and 'only suitable for a beginner' and believe me the fact that they are made from plastic or cost less than a pack of expensive strings did not affect the sound one iota. Glad you're enjoying it. I'm going to get one myseklf, i feel the B Four is leaving a hole in my Zoom armoury, or Zoomery (as no one ever calls it).

  40. I once had a dream in which I went into a guitar shop and asked to have a go on the Aria Black and Gold they had on the ceiling (?). The shop kindly obliged but when it was handed to me it turned out to be a Hohner Steinberger copy. Not wanting to appear rude I played it, only to realise it was the GREATEST TONE EVER. So great that a crowd soon formed in awe at the sound. The dream was years ago, before I'd ever played an Aria SB, but I still want to try one of those Hohners.

  42. Finally got to play my new shell pink Jazz with my band, last night. After a few comments like, "getting in touch with your feminine side?", it was generally agreed that the bass not only looked cool but sounded great too. I was really happy with the easy playability and even more happy with the bass's tone, in the band mix. Lots of body, penetration and that lovely growl, I was hoping for. Well chuffed.🤠

  43. I agree with TTL3... 'Newfoundfreedom' is ideal. My favourite local band names are Goldfish Don't Bounce and Gandhi's Flipflop. God only knows how much alcohol/substances was involved in coming up with those.

  44. Your Robert Smith and/or Jet Harris fantasies can come true with this Trisonic-laden beauty. Sounds better than Fender’s Bass VI and enjoys a much better build quality than Squier’s recent Indonesia built series. Versatile. Fun. And packs a real punch. Based in London.
