4. Perfectly understandable. We're all different. I understand how gigging a lot can work for some and not others. I answer to no one and can sleep as late as I want. I'm single by design, as a matter of fact, I broke up with the last woman I dated because I knew she didn't get rock & roll or gigging. Our guitarists wife comes to every single gig with him, she's never missed a show in the 7 years I've been with the band. I asked her why; "Because I love watching my husband do something he loves" That's the kind of lady I need to meet. No woman is ever going to give me any type of grief about gigging. The money I earn from gigging means so much more to me than the salary I drew when I was a part of the traditional workforce. And I had a great paying career. I still feel that getting paid to have fun and do something you love is, well you can't beat it. Sure there's little inconveniences and every gig won't be great, but I still wouldn't trade away gigging for anything. I'm not important enough to hate any genre of music as long as it's professional and played well and I get paid to do it. I truly love this business and I love playing. BTW, sorry about the rant. 5. In October of 1978 I saw Slade play the first night of six in a nightclub chain. Very little advertising and the bouncers were turning away fans who weren't dressed "smart but casual". Slade played to 19 punters in a 1000 capacity venue; the smallest crowd in their professional career. they still talk about it yet. When they came on Noddy Holder said "Jeeesus, did you all come on the same bus?"

 8. Ableton is fine for programming drums, however it's arguably not the best DAW for 'band/instrument' recording, it's way more geared towards electronic music (which it's amazing at). As such you may want to look at Garageband, or Logic (running in it's simplified mode......allows you to get more advanced when you're ready), as mentioned above, they both have very useable drum sequencers. Fun fact, although Logic's drum tracks appear as an audio wave at first, you can simply drag the part onto a spare soft-instrument track and it will show you the midi score......you could then apply any drum sounds soft-instrument (DFH, Tooktrak etc) on that track. Allows you to pull together drum grooves very easily, then apply your own preferred sounds to that groove. Si

 11. I find them an exceptional band. I know a lot of folk don't like JK, but he's a great front man & a great vocalist too. The bassline in this is fantabulous...

 17. I would look at the Pedaltrain Nano/Metro series. They have a planner app on their site to help your work out which model will be the right fit. Then if you want a flexible power supply that will fit underneath then you'll be after a Cioks DC5 (sold by HotRox) or a Onespot CS6 (Andertons currently cheapest). For cables I would recommend a solderless kit like Evidence Audio SIS or Tightrope for their ultra low profile plugs and the ability to change lengths as your board evolves.

 21. It needs damping because if it's not damped waves from the back of the cone reflect off the panels back to the cone, meeting it at various angles of phase, causing peaks and valleys in the speaker response. That's the case with all speakers. This isn't a debatable topic, it's Acoustical Engineering 101, first semester. Un-braced 15mm plywood is insufficient to make the cabinet panels inert. The only difference between Marine plywood and standard grade is the use of waterproof glue. What does matter is the number of plies, which is responsible for stiffness. A single brace connecting the middle of two opposing panels gives the same result as doubling the panel thickness. That's Civil Engineering 101, first semester. Giving the cab designer the benefit of the doubt I'll venture he may have studied acoustical and civil engineering and specified how to correctly build the cab, but the bean counter who over-ruled him in favor of saving a few quid certainly did not.

 22. I love the first three Jamiroquai albums and find it bizarre when fellow musicians don’t share my enthusiasm. I find Zenders playing inspirational, groovy as hell and effortlessly cool. By Zender’s own admission however it was often the case that JK would sing the bass melody to him, and he would then build upon it with his own ideas. The more recent albums sound rather generic in my opinion and aren’t what Jamiroquai were originally about. Here’s Zender on a P, Derrick McKenzie laying it down, and JK hitting the high notes after (I suspect) one or two fragrant roll-ups.

 24. lets revive this dying thread!!! i purchased a bananana matryoshka 2nd hand here a month or so ago. First time i tried it it sounded good, but not great.... my impressions were it was noisy, glitchy and temperamental..... so i put it on the shelf and haven't touched it since.... until yesterday when i decided to make a list of the pedals i should sell to make room/cash for other unnecessary equipment. i actually put the bananana in the pile to be sold. After work i decided to plug it in to give it one last go before i put it up for sale (i diddnt expect it to hang around)..... ....... ohhhh myyyy goooooood god, this thing sounds amazing!!!! it turns out the first time i tried it i must have been driving the input too hot as it was pinning the filter against the roof every time i touched the strings. but with the volume rolled back on my sandberg it really opened the pedal up.The filter became responsive, the noise and glitches dissapeared and i was in synth nirvana. Some of the subs that this tiny pedal can put out are simply astonishing. its reactive to the strength of the string attack like no filter ive ever used. (and ive tried a fair few!!!) my favorite setting is the gated fuzz (orange) setting with the ctrl wide open. no dry and out 1+2 fully open. oct fully up and resonance at 2 ish. this pedal is a seriously powerful piece of gear and i encourage anybody into synth pedals to try one. needless to say... now mine isn't going anywhere! edit. added a quick sample of the pedal 1st part - dubstep style riff 2nd part - demo of how controllable the filter sweep... into more riffing bananana sample.mp3

 25. Ben Thanks for the tip: the PowerAdd was removed from Amazon when I was first looking around, but seems to have reappeared at a reasonable price, so I bought it, as it was a sure thing to fit snugly in the carry handle slot (as demonstrated. i made some mock-ups of other power banks, but none of them would be so integrated. I’ve found that the knobbly finish on the amp makes mincemeat of the (rather pretty) battery case. Ho-hum!

 28. This will give you some righteously clean and deep dub bass sounds. They are not cheap new but occasionally they come around used on ebay. http://www.alembic.com/prod/sf2.html I use mine only if I'm using decent cabs that can deal with heavy bottom end.

 29. yes, whether its to do with design trademarks or what i dont know, but every precision type scratchplate will not fit every precision type bass. some wont fit over the control recess, some wont fit over the pick up spaces etc - and some will, but may need completely re screwing down as the screw holes are in the wrong place. i couldnt find a replacement for the v4 anywhere. i contacted the manufacturer in the end (jhs) but the one they suggested definitely looked like it wouldnt fit. it had screw holes in different places and the pick up space looked much closer to the edge of the scratchplate than the existing one i had. its definitely worth asking round round first if a replacement will fit your bass.

 33. The ... is called an ellipsis and is very often misused, much like the word 'literally'. Here is the definition from the OED. Grammar. The omission of one or more words in a sentence, which would be needed to complete the grammatical construction or fully to express the sense; an instance of such omission. Formerly used as the name of the dash (—) employed in writing or printing to indicate the omission of letters in a word. It should only ever be three full stops long and always has a space after it.

Jamie put my concerns at ease, a very nice chap to speak with, the transaction went smoothly and the Bass arrived the day after collection very well packaged. A really lovely bit of kit to sate my GAS a little... & Jamie's a gent to deal with 5*'s. Cheers, jamie

 45.
I'd hire a student or pro, most folks have no clue on how to take even marginal footage of a band in a live setting. Blue
Nonsense. All you need is a mic / recorder that can handle the SPL and a tripod. It doesn't take a student or a pro to get something useful - just common sense.

 48. Harley Benton RiB-shorty project is done. Detail pictures: This was a smooth and simple conversion, only minor setback was the breaking out if the chunk of wood while drilling the hole for the sidejack. Verdict: This one was the best made HB instrument I've had in my hands until now. Nice tight(ish) fitting neck/neck-pocket, frets are level and there are no sharp fret ends, only two tuners were a little bit misaligned that were fixable without any 'filling and drilling'. I replaced one bridge saddle due to the fact that the height adjustment screws were not at an straight angle to the intonation screw (the original one worked okay but I don't like these small disturbing details). I also placed a neck shim, this was not necessary but I prefer to have the strings a little bit higher in the bridge position. These Chinese toasters sound amazingly Rick-ish, even though they are dual coils (in series), the round rolling sound with a bite, the only minus is that they are slightly microphonic.

 49. And finished the (hopefully) final 'nit pick' session yesterday evening. Straightened the alignment of the bridge. At first I didn't really notice it was mounted crooked but with the placement of the bridge pickup I immediately saw something was out of line, either the pickup or the bridge (of course it was the bridge , not my pickup placement), The more I looked at it the more crooked it seemed! Decided to fill the existing screw holes and after that mounted the bridge on straight.
