  1. Sooooo, spent a fun hour or so the other night taking my 2022 Rickenbacker 4003 apart and checking all the connections, pots etc to figure out why the volume for one of the pickups wasn't working. Put it back together only to find I couldn't get the tone working either. Turned out I was turning the wrong knobs. I've been playing my Gibson EB-2D a fair bit recently, and the volume for the neck pickup is where the tone for the neck pickup is on the Rick. I have now invested in a set of labelled knobs from Rickysounds. This is another reason why I like Precisions.

  4. Sadly moving on my last bass. If you don't know what this is, it is a great lightweight alternative to other Fender basses. PJ setup with a very fast, slim, jazz style neck. The neck has a silk finish and there is a high gloss finish to the sunburst to body, the darkest colour is a rich chocolate brown. Weighing in at approx 3Kg (bathroom scales) this will give your back a rest! These were made in Japan and are high quality instruments, I believe this example is 1994-5. All the controls all work, master volume / pan / bass / treble, with the preamp using a standard 9v battery. Strap locks are fitted though the original strap buttons are included. This bass has had very little (home) use and has been in its case for the past 6 years as I have not be playing due to hearing issues. In very good overall condition, there are one or two small dings on the front (see pics) but it is unmarked apart from those. The rear cover still has the protective film over the plastic plate and the original 'Steve's Music Store' (Canada) price sticker is still on the back of the headstock. Crossrock hard case is included. The bass is located just outside Weston-super-Mare and I am asking only for £550.00 for a quick sale. Thanks for looking.

  5. Probably the nicest looking piece of wood I have ever owned. It was created fretless and I had Martin (original builder) re-fret it. In very good condition, I could not find any dings. The only thing that is not quite right is that one of the LEDs at the 12th does not light up unless the batteries are pretty much brand new, I guess a resistance issue. Big sound, thin neck, low action, beautifully made. I have a specially adapted Hiscox guitar case into which it fits as it is small, and also nice and light. Based Chertsey, Junc11 of M25. Would rather not post... PS Might swap for a Roscoe Century 5 PPS Weight is 3.53kg with a chunky strap attached. Images of string widths added.

  6. 1) People who post 'collection-only' pedal listings online 🥴 This isn't the noticeboard on your local village green... Sending a pedal via post isn't hard. I've sent 3 this week... I wouldn't sell things anywhere near as quick as I do currently (generally less than a week turnaround) if I refused to arrange delivery. Just denying yourself a sale. 2) People who post very specific job-lots of individually expensive items and refuse to split 🥴 I can understand if the job-lot is cheap, but I've seen a few people post entire pedalboards totalling over £1000... What are the odds someone wants your exact setup lol? Why would you not just sell piecemeal and make the sales? Imagine if you went into a shop and they said sorry you can't buy this single Tshirt, you need to buy an entire pre-chosen wardrobe of clothes.... I genuinely think some people aren't bothered about making the sale, and just want to play shopkeeper on the internets.

  8. A very fruitful rehearsal last night. One of the venues we play at is starting up a once a month Sunday Blues afternoon gig and asked if we would like to play, we are mainly a rock covers band, but have a sprinkling of ZZ Top, SRV etc, not enough songs to do a full blues set, but we are up for it. We decided on nine additional songs to learn for the blues gig to make up a full gigging set. White Room - Cream Roadhouse Blues - The Doors Red House - Jimi Hendrix Wishing Well - Free Oh Well - Slash Version Still Got The Blues - Gary Moore Walking by Myself - Gary Moore Honky Tonk Woman - Rolling Stones Oh Pretty Woman - Gary Moore We all did our homework and came together last night to work our way through them, we nailed the first eight and then came to Oh Pretty Woman, Martin our drummer counted us in and then it immediately crashed and burned big time, his drumming was way off, we asked him what he was playing and he said it was a Van Halen version, we all said that Van Halen had never recorded Oh Pretty Woman, Martin had mistakenly learnt the old Roy Orbison song Pretty Woman which Van Halen had done a heavier version of, we almost p*ssed ourselves with laughing so much. All in all, we managed to nail eight of the nine songs in a two hour rehearsal session, well pleased.👍

  9. Great idea, necessity is the mother of invention. You really shouldn't put yourself down like that though. Words have power, especially those that we say to ourselves. Be proud of yourself for inventing a new way to keep yourself playing. Result! 👏👊

  10. As 1 cab is on hold I thought I would list the WJBP1 preamp/DI separately. In excellent condition with original packaging and foot pedal and can be supplied in small flight case at no cost. Notes from Wayne Jones: My perfect sound was an Avalon 737 studio pre through my WJ powered cabs. So I set out to design a bass pre-amp that truly reproduced your bass sound & thus enabled you to tailor your sound. Also the tone controls had to work in the right areas & the pre had to have all the bells & whistles we need to do our job. Again no expense spared, just the highest quality components I could get for everything we need on stage & in the studio. These were my Instructions to my Engineer. I have achieved that with the WJBP This pre will also make front of house engineers happy as what goes in comes out. The WJBP is designed with a no compromise attitude in Cost, Quality, Components & Features just as are WJ High End High Powered Bass Cabinets. Features Input 1/4” phono stereo/mono jack Input Gain For both Passive & Active basses -10 Db pad Input Gain clip Indicator LEDS (top left corner) Tone controls are critically set by Wayne & are extremely accurate in the attack points of each string. You can set them by one for each string on your bass All +15Db -20 Db Incredible separation between the tone controls There is also a 30 Hz boost for those that may like it ( not really needed at all as the Bass control gives such a great bottom end with ultimate attack). In/out button for selection Compressor: Optical, automatically senses & is very effective even with a very small amount engaged. In/out button for selection Balance: This is a balance control for stereo operation e.g. 2 WJ 2x10 or Stereo WJ 1x10 Powered cabs. Master volume Controls output Pre-Amp Output Indicator LEDS (top right corner) tell you if you are overloading the WJBP output Mute - Puts the WJBP in standby mode. LED Indicates when in use. The Mute mode should also be used for power up of the WJ Powered cabs, otherwise a very loud 1000watts will sound when WJ Powered cab (or separate power amp) is turned on. It also operates the built in Tuner. For standard tuning for 4, 5 & 6 string basses Foot switch mutes all output for silent tuning. Master Outs 2 balanced XLR (recommended) outs for connection to WJ powered cabinets or to separate power amps Balance control on from panel will affect these outputs. Also a choice of 2 Unbalanced 1/4" outputs for same function. (not recommended as output is lower) All master outs can be used together as a pair or Individually with balance control set to the respective output FX Send & Return - Stereo or mono Foot switch - Mutes all output DI Output - Balanced XLR out with Level control & ore or post EQ button Aux Input - Stereo input, both 6.3mm & 1/4” phono. You an use this to plug items such as iPad, iPhone backing tracks etc. to play along with. Headphone With Volume Control - Plug in your headphones to practise with. 11. Our local Wassail & Mari Lwyd is next weekend and our Morris band will be playing throughout much of the festivities, including leading (with the choir) a public sing-along in the early evening - Farmer's Boy, Gluouscetershire Wassail, Cwm Rhondda, Calon Lan, Sweet Caroline, Delilah, Sosban Fach, etc. We had our first practice with the choir last night - about 40 of them! With pouring rain and an upstairs rehearsal room, I kept things portable with my bass ukulele and Roland Street Cube EX. It went very well - the choir were well-practiced and it didn't take long to synch together. One more practice then the wassail. There's talk of there being a couple of thousand people there, though the band will mostly be on smaller amps. I'm torn between the practicality of bass uke + TE Elf, versus making the effort [of] taking my double bass and my Trace AH300. The photos and video will still be there after the back pain has subsided!

  13. Two good ones this week. Refreshing our memories with Fortunate Sons on monday. Started finalising our full theatrical performance for Fractured Persona tonight - we have the 'script' and setlist, going through song by song and recording definitive live versions. About 40% sorted tonight, just a couple more off the original album we need to brush up on. And look how our rehearsal room treats us:

  14. Selling my 2001 Musicman Stingray5. Amazing sounding bass, a few dings & chips from gigs but easily one of the best sounding SR5’s I have owned. The white has aged nicely into a creamy white colour. It’s just back from a full overhaul by my guitar tech including - Deep clean • Fretboard restoration • Neck de-gloss • Fret level crown and polish • Electronics inspection • full multi-step setup Totalling - £325 Comes with original MM case, case candy & white pick guard. Bass is in Glasgow if anyone wants to try it out first. Lots of nice SR5’s for sale on BC just now, not to fussed if this doesn’t sell. £1400

  15. I started up an 80s band some time ago. We are still "forming" finding the right songs and so forth but it's feeling good. So I wanted an 80s bass and having sold off three basses at the end of last year I was feeling good and came across an Ibanez Musician from 1980, fully original. Struck a deal and it was delivered yesterday by the owner and used last night at band practice. First impressions: chunkier neck than I'm used to but not unmanageable. Weight is ok and a decent strap. Lots of knobs! These are a bit excessive I think: vol vol tone, three way pup selector, active/ passive switch, bass, mid, treble... So for ease of use it's both pups on full then using the active to find the sound. I played through an Ampeg head and Trace cab with the EQ relatively flat. This bass cuts through the mix! Gorgeous consistency all over the neck in terms of tone and volume, lovely for high fills, really nice sound for finger pops that I can't seem to get with other basses. So far I'm chuffed. Terrible photo, but I've been too busy playing it to just admire it.

  18. It was a good practice last night. One guitarist was trying out a new amp (a Laney Ironheart IRT-SLS) which sounded and will be plenty loud enough. The other was testing a new practice rig but managed to forget the power supply for his tiny pedalboard amp, so he was straight into the PA from a GP-5 but that worked alright. I was also testing out my Spector NS Icon with the right(ish) strings on, sounds great to my ear for what we do. We managed to get a new song ready except for lyrics, so that was also good!

  20. My wife had some fabric remnants. Bit of black felt cut to size and held in place with a small amount of gaffer tape. Works a treat. Also keeps my aching thumb nice and warm. Mkii version will have a small bit of velcro to fasten. much better dampening, instant, and no harmonics or rattle.

  21. I've always found Reverb an awful place to shop... Almost every seller ups their price to compensate for fees, so if buying from a retailer via Reverb its far cheaper to buy direct. Most of the private sales have stupidly high prices. Its not bad if you are a private seller selling at a fair price as things normally sell quickly in the backdrop of the typically really high prices!

I asked at the time about why it had changed and was told that it was to preserve the look of a vertical two plus one stack with new logos. Personally I wasn’t thrilled but decided I didn’t care enough to seek any remedy. Glad to read you’re getting yours sorted out!

  26. I’m the person who bought this, I wasn’t allowed to talk about this until today. It was mistakenly for sale on eBay and I snapped it up. I've had almost two weeks with it and here’s my thoughts. Two outputs but no option to split signals, no di out valeton has two. No fx loop again the valeton has one. only 3 fx slots that can be any effect but reverb and delay aren’t able to be swapped for another usable fx, why? Plus points for the pitch shifter, much better than my digitech drop. The drive sounds are good using the sansamp one at the moment. Amps and cabs are great. Great as a practice tool definitely with built in Bluetooth and headphone out. It’s nice to see boss catering to bass players, just don’t understand why some of the most useful tools for a bass player have been omitted. Honestly it sounds good, I’ve used it at practice and the band liked it but preferred my normal setup. Am I going to keep it? Probably not. It’s just missing things that I find useful. What’s keeping it with me right now is the pitch shifter and the fact it’s much more compact than my board. Now that the tone studio and app are out I’ll be playing with that before I make my final decision on it.

  28. I've been driving that loco for as long as I can remember. The footpegs had a little set higher up where my sister and I would sit in front of dad at steaming days and eventually we learnt to drive it. MKMS had no fixed track at the time so it was fete after fete in the summer. Moving clubs to Northampton SME with their fixed track at Delepre was a joy with monthly running days. Night running with BBQ in summer.

  34. I brought it along as my Brother spotted it earlier and I ended up noodling on it and it was great fun. Found a new song we are knocking into shape it really suits - think something in the same ballpark as Hey Hey My My (Into the Black). It's so dŵty, but really good to play and sounds huge. I paid about 50 times as much for the other bass I was using...

  35. Hi guys. Here it is, my 74 fender jazz. Incredible sounding bass and the easiest bass I've ever played. Let's start with the neck. As most of your are aware, 74 was the first year they did the maple/pearl block inlays. And I think the last year before going to 3 bolt necks. What makes this one so damn good as that it was made by herb gastelum the neck guru of fender for 52 years! The neck is stamped herb g. It has had a brass nut installed at some point in its career. The body is sunburst as you can see with the usual dings you'd expect from a 52 year old bass. Stamped H Ferry who was another well known fender employee. It has had a modification back in the day, someone cut out for a bigger pickup to the neck position. This sits behind the pick guard and has not changed tone in anyway. The bridge has been upgraded to a baddass 2. This looks like a very old modification and seems quite common with older fenders. The pickups have been changed, I would say sadly, but these sound unbelievable so although not original it is the sweetest fender I've ever heard, maybe sweetest bass ever heard! They are hand wound pickups made by Ben lindsay in the USA. From what I read he is considered one of the best winders? Completely silent, but sound amazing. Scratchplate doesn't seem to be original as I think they were black. But has some age to it. This has been a tough one to price as I think an all original 74 would be worth 3.5k or so. Ive put it up for what I feel is fair.

  36. I managed to get cracking and get the P bass playing the way I like. As I suspected the plastic film that was still on the scratch plate had welded itself to the tort plate. On closer inspection the plate was warped whilst it was screwed onto the bass, I don`t know what was going on there, was it because the original film was still on the plate after 15 odd years? Anyway I ordered a black 3 ply one from Northwest Guitars for £22 with next day delivery and it fitted perfectly with all the screw holes lining up. Next a new set of EB`s Slinkys, I oiled the fretboard and it was good to go. Intonation was perfect so maybe it was set up when it was bought? The bass plays and sounds great and the neck profile is perfect for me. Overall I`m very happy with this purchase @DGBass I have taken a pic of the tuners for you.

  37. The day has finally come to pass this on as I'm ready for a change. Made in the Custom Shop at Dingwall is this beautiful bass that's around 5 years old. In exceptional condition, no dings and only the finest of marks on the back which can only be seen by holding up to the light (I don't wear an exposed belt when playing). They may well polish out. Currently strung with D'Addario coated strings but have to say that I liked it better with flats. Tone fusion electronics, Wenge fretboard and tortoiseshell pick guard. Weighs in at a shade over 7lbs. Collection from here in Belper (15 minutes from J28 of the M1. Negotiable on meet-up.

  38. I haven’t posted on this thread for a while now, mainly because my gigs are often residences and subsequently fairly similar, rinse and repeat jobs etc. Usually in a duo these days too, with the occasional dep here and there with other bands. I did just short of 100 gigs in 2025, ( so much for semi retiring etc.) so still doing a fair few. 2026 is looking around the same so far which is good. Anyway, couple of recent ones worth a mention. Scarborough Yacht Club was an interesting venue, located on a pier in the harbour and part of the lighthouse building. Needless to say a challenging get-in, where we nearly drove the van over an old bridge which wouldn’t have held the weight! (See pic 1 below) So we had to carry all our kit on foot, with heavy rainfall not helping. The gig went well, although a very boozy do with plenty of audience ‘interaction’. Been promised a return gig in the spring so think they liked it. Played a nice gig at a lovely hotel just outside York in December. It was a trio, headed by wonderful saxophonist / flautist and singer Jon Taylor. Jon has played in many bands over the years, and is a great character. First time I’ve played with him, and a thoroughly enjoyable gig, at a great venue. (Pic 2). We did our annual Christmas gig at Beverley’s ‘The Sun Inn’, where we get invited guests up to sing with us. As last year, we had some mega volunteers, including landlord Paul and also Dave Hemingway from ‘The Beautiful South’. Dave did a version of Bowie’s ‘Starman’ which was really good, and the pub was rammed with a ‘one in / one out’ policy to avoid overcrowding. (pic 3 shows the group shot). My go to rig for most of the gigs has been either a Fender Kingman electro acoustic, or a Squier Jaguar SS when I know it may get a bit loud and lairy. Then one of two Rumble V3 combos, either the 100 or 500. Shoes have varied but often black Chelsea boots.
